hi people. i am wondering if there is a guide for a complete newbie like my self who doesnt know what rom , modem, flash etc... is, in how to install gingerbread in galaxy tab p1000. i mean what i have to do first , what next etc... . i have seen the overcome kratos is used by a lot of people but dont know what to do with all this. your help will be really apreciated.
Go to the Overcome website. Read the installation guide. Their guide is the most comprehensive to date. If there are bits of that you don't understand, ask for clarification.

Dude, this isnt a help or questions section, this is a development forum.
Go read the sticky threads there is plenty of info there and pretty easy to follow. I read them and had a custom rom flashed to my Tab same day I bought it.
I thank you and sorry I found several guides the only thing that I did not understand is the order to follow what flashing before or after

Before or after what?
Basically all you do is..
a) Root your device (download and use z4root from market)
b) Go to a rom thread and read instructions (Go to the rom link in my signature)
Root your device, download the rom and then follow the following guide..

Hi,
I have updated to JP9 uk stock rom using kies. I would have to say that I am not that happy with it (freezes, seems slow compared to 2.2). Having read about overcome, I think it is time to give it a go. Overcome Jupiter requires root, it does not seem possible to root (using superoneclick). So how do I get there?
Do I use CF Root, then overcome - has anybody else done this? Is there anything I should be watching out for?
cheers

First read the faq posted in question & answer section!
Then read the guide for overcome rom you'll understand everything!

Thanks lordrdx666,
I assure you that I have read many posts, and searched the forum, both on rooting stock gingerbread and flashing overcome.
My research has shown that stock gingerbread can not be rooted by superoneclick and that many users are searching for a solution. Also that some who have flashed CF-root have had "bricks". I have also checked the overcome site, here is a quote:
Your Tab must be rooted. (Please look for SuperOneClick root method as it’s usually the safe bet! But for more information on rooting, please refer here:
It refers to superoneclick.
So, as I suggested in my post I think the only option I have is to bitr the bullet and flash CF-Root, then follow the overcome steps. BUT, as far as I can tell there are not many that have gone from stock JP9. So I asked if this is my best option, has anybody else done it and what things should I avoid, this will be the most advanced things I have done with the tab, and yes I am a bit scared and worried about breaking it.
Just looking for help, thanks
Just read the team overcome guide. Don't do any other flashes until you read! The reason your JP9 is laggy is because you didn't upgrade correctly.
When you follow the guide exactly you will have root and a smooth tab.
Hi Rangercaptain,
I think my post may be misunderstood.
I have updated to JP9 via kies. It is the stock rom I am using, and it is that, that I am wanting to change.
I would like to go to the overcomne rom (having read about the different roms, this seems to be very well regarded (discussion on stock vs custom rom).
Do make this change overcome guide states I need root, superoneclick will not root gingerbread.
So the only way that I can see to get there is to root the tab using CF-root, then try to go to overcome.
As I have not used any other tool (if you can call kies a tool), I am nervous about doing these flashes.
My questions, therefore, are:
Have I got the best approach or is there a better way?
Has anybody else done the same sequence and can offer any experience related info
When I can get the confidence to go ahead I will be very diligent in following the instructions.
cheers

Well maybe you did read many posts, maybe you did search the forums. Sometimes there is a lot of reading to do and people tend to miss things. That's also why developers and other senior members complain about noobs asking questions that have been answered before and adding to all the posts that people have to search through. This ultimately affects both you and I and everyone else that has to read through all of the posts to find their answers, and it also makes noobs hesitate to ask questions so that they don't get a verbal lashing by senior members even though they had a valid reason to post.
So you know, your question was answered on post #2 by Lordrdx666, it was a very helpful post.
I'm also more than happy to help others on this forum, and i'm not being a d!ck, but so you know, here is what i came up with on my first search using good old google
try what i did to get results by clicking here
not sure if it applies to you but it should get you somewhere
If my link helped you, do click my thank you button.

Follow the instructions. Then go to MIUI thread and follow instructions there.
Or you can register to sammobile.com and download stock ROMs there. There are also flashing guides.
If you don't understand something you can PM me anytime.

Hi,
I am new here and have just purchase Samsung Galaxy S i9000. I want to install ClockworkMod Recovery for flash ROMs. Please guide me with procedure. sorry for bad english. Thnanks.
Oh dear.
Don't post in the development sub-forum!
First piece of advice, read. read around, different posts, different messages, different google results, not only will you gain advice and information that can help you/save your ass in the future, you won't do rookie things like post in the dev forum.
And google anything you don't understand first. You're question is 99.9% of the time not original and already out there with several productive answers
But i'll cut you some slack.
Firstly, we need to know your current firmware. Go to Settings, and then about phone. look for your android version. and you're firmware. if you're unsure, take a picture of the about phone section and upload it here and we'll help you.
And could a dev shift this to the right place please

If youve got Gingerbread, then look for a custom kernel WHICH IS GINGERBREAD BASED NOT ICS OR JELLYBEAN BASED. Then using download a program called Odin. And put the Kernel in the PDA section of the program, if you dont know how to do this then there should be videos telling you how to do so on Youtube. Its the same flashing procedure for all the Galaxy S series of phones, if you type in "Galaxy s3 flash kernel" or something similar it should give you a general idea of how to do it. And remember to just read everthing they tell you to do for each kernel. Go through step by step and it should be easy. If something happens though cant be held responsible. gota be said, lol. A thanks would be appreciated if i helped

don`t help him, dammit.
let him learn to post in the right section first.
Give the guy a break we were all new once! First thing you should do is Google Odin software and learn how to use that. Second make sure any ROM you flash is made for sgs i9000. Lastly go to www.darkyrom.com and check out the section there on the i9000, the user totally dubbed has excellent video tutorials that can walk you through it all. If you have any questions or get into trouble pm me and I'll help you out too.

Hi everyone,
After coming from the Galaxy ace forums I've gotten my hands on a Galaxy S i9000
But after some reading and searching for a step-by-step guide on how to flash Rom's on a Galaxy S and what the requirements are.. I'm kind off a loss now. Reading bits here about flashing By Odin and pre-rooting first, I'm kind off confused now.
Perhaps flame will fall down on me and noob accusation finger will point.
But I hope someone will help a fellow custom rom lover out with a step-by-step procedure or point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your time.
