Hi,
I am new here and have just purchase Samsung Galaxy S i9000. I want to install ClockworkMod Recovery for flash ROMs. Please guide me with procedure. sorry for bad english. Thnanks.
Oh dear.
Don't post in the development sub-forum!
First piece of advice, read. read around, different posts, different messages, different google results, not only will you gain advice and information that can help you/save your ass in the future, you won't do rookie things like post in the dev forum.
And google anything you don't understand first. You're question is 99.9% of the time not original and already out there with several productive answers
But i'll cut you some slack.
Firstly, we need to know your current firmware. Go to Settings, and then about phone. look for your android version. and you're firmware. if you're unsure, take a picture of the about phone section and upload it here and we'll help you.
And could a dev shift this to the right place please

If youve got Gingerbread, then look for a custom kernel WHICH IS GINGERBREAD BASED NOT ICS OR JELLYBEAN BASED. Then using download a program called Odin. And put the Kernel in the PDA section of the program, if you dont know how to do this then there should be videos telling you how to do so on Youtube. Its the same flashing procedure for all the Galaxy S series of phones, if you type in "Galaxy s3 flash kernel" or something similar it should give you a general idea of how to do it. And remember to just read everthing they tell you to do for each kernel. Go through step by step and it should be easy. If something happens though cant be held responsible. gota be said, lol. A thanks would be appreciated if i helped

don`t help him, dammit.
let him learn to post in the right section first.
Give the guy a break we were all new once! First thing you should do is Google Odin software and learn how to use that. Second make sure any ROM you flash is made for sgs i9000. Lastly go to www.darkyrom.com and check out the section there on the i9000, the user totally dubbed has excellent video tutorials that can walk you through it all. If you have any questions or get into trouble pm me and I'll help you out too.

I was recently having issues with CM7; I wasn't able to flash off of it and back onto serendipity VII. I used the Odin one-click to put the phone back to stock firmware, re-rooted it, and flashed Serendipity VII build 3.
So, here's what it's doing: Every time it boots up, the screen gets all funny: black with all sorts of grainy, pixelly colors. That's fine; it did that before I flashed CM7. A little irritating, but should still be workable. Then a voice comes on and says: "Convert data partition. Backup operation. Restore operation. [Something something] Have now activated."
Then the phone reboots and starts all over again; same screen, same voice, same words.
Here's the killer though. I cannot get into download mode at all. No matter what I do, the phone ignores my trying to get into download mode and just goes back to the voice. Can't turn it off and hit the vol+/- and power. Can't remove the battery and hold the buttons down and put the battery back in. It doesn't work.
Any ideas on how to get past this?
U need a jig and then u need to flash the Gingerbread bootloaders.

Voodoo? Don't think so. Bootloaders? All I flashed was the ROM. If bootloaders are separate from the ROM, then it's not likely.

U really need to read m8, use google as well to find ur answers if xda's SEARCH comes up empty. Allways read the STICKIES first. Once u have an idea how things work, read over and over the ROMs flashing instructions and only then proceed. If u feel like you don't have time for that, stock is all you need otherwise u'll most likely end up taking ur phone back to att asking for a replacement (or sending it for a jtag repair). I didn't know zip either when I first started up ,but man, reading takes u far.

I read and follow every tutorial to the letter. Please don't come into this thread and make assumptions about me. Either help, or don't. I did exactly what i've done many, many times before, and if you read the stickies and the forums, then you'd know that there's still a risk of bricking the device, however small.

1st off I didn't make assumptions as u stated what u did and was clear that in the process to get to Serendipity7, a gb rom (gb=gingerbread) u left out gb bootloaders that is a must have to run gb roms, as it was said before ^^ If u'd have been as confident flashing serendipity as u were writing that reply then u wouldn't be here in the first place. Although I'll cut you some slack since Serendipity is lacking flashing instructions . Still u shouldn't go flaming when in need of help, rather be greatful for ppl even reading you post and trying to help (that's all we wanned). Apologize for ur rookie mistake and ask what to do next, help will come - trust me. I'll give you the one where there's risk involved in the flashing procedure
As the guys, 4-2ndtwin and b-eock, said earlier @ this point u'll need a jig to force ur phone into download mode. The lady (robot) voice u heard was the voodoo lagfix (ext4) conversion which is done by the kernel.
Now once u'll be equipped with a jig and ur on dl mode flash back to stock jf6 with odin one click (optional - but I'd recomend u do a master clear) and if u'd still wanna go for serendipity then first flash a GB bootloader (i897 or i9000 -doesn't matter) followed by a kernel flash with cwm (clockworkmod recovery) backed in and last comes the rom flash. I summed it up really short ,so that u read and educate ur self . If ur looking for step by step tuturials look for them in other rom threads.

Please explain how my replies were flaming. I never RAEGD or "OMG GTFO MY THREAD"'d or "Ur so stoopid u must be a rtard!!!! LOL"'d at all. I simply explained that I'd rather not have people calling me ignorant without basis to the claim. Also, I have no reason to apologize. Yes, I screwed something up. I did nothing to anyone here, other than defend myself when people start calling me an idiot or a noob. And it's hard to be grateful for help I'm not getting.
Apparently, I've not been clear. This is the tutorial I followed today to reroot my phone:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/08/02/how-to-root-the-samsung-vibrant-captivate/
The tutorial I used for the rom is linked in the one above. Never in any tutorial does it mention anything about bootloaders or jigs or anything of the sort. That stuff was never relevant the first time I rooted my phone. This is why I don't know what people are talking about; It was never mentioned, it was never necessary until now.
That said, Fulo, the second half of your paragraph was actually the most helpful information yet. Thank you.
EDIT: Thank you to whoever decided to help rather than simply call me an idiot. I can see why these tutorials don't say anything about bootloaders now. I will be creating a jig tomorrow and will hopefully have my phone unbricked. To whoever DID decide to simply call me an idiot, I hope you learn to grow up soon.
Nobody called you an idiot, I was going to help you. But then stuff happened

Hi,
I am fairly new to this and need advice on how to root my samsung galaxy s.
Details below:
Android 2.1
Baseband Version : I9000XXJM2
Kernal Version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number : ECLAIR.XWJM3
Any assistance as to how i need to root the phone, new kernals and latest ROM will be appreciated
Using the search function and reading before opening a new thread is generally considered the best way to go about it my friend.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Reading & searching is always a good idea but often if new you don't really know what to search for so here is a little help.
If you just want root then go to cf-root Read through at least the first post. it is a lot but very helpful.
What you usually want is the cf-root with the last three characters of your build number. If it doesn't match try get one that is close. If you plan to flash a custom ROM then it doesn't matter to much which one you have.
If you want an easy way to have root and the ability to flash custom ROMS you may as well start with DarkyResurrection. It has an easy to follow thread and the download has everything you need in one download.
Alternatively if your goal is to get ICS then here are two tutorials that will get you through the whole process from beginning to end which I recommend doing either one of. Once done you will be in a great position to move onto any ICS ROM, Kernel or Modem you like. My personal favourite is Slim ICS with semaphore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966 (slightly more current ROM)
ICS list of Roms & Kernels
ICS benchmark thread
List of Modems
Lastly a great Samsung Galaxy Resource site: SamMobile. You need to register but it is free.
There are 2 ways that I know of to root your phone depending on what you want to do going ahead.
If you want to install a custom rom, then follow the instructions given above.
But if you want to keep your stock rom and root your phone to install some apps that work only on rooted phones then I would suggest that you use the SuperOneClick method.
Let me know if you need instructions for the SuperOneClick method and I will be happy to share it with you.
Cheers

Install samsung kies and update to gingerbread. Then do cf-root.
I would advise to first upgrade to GB, which is much better version of OS than Eclair. If you are not able to upgrade using kies, you learn how to upgrade here: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-flashing-to-original-rom.46/
Then how to root here: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/

Firstly I wasnt been a douche and I WAS helping you out. The best way to learn is to do research, search and read as you pick up allot along the way. I havent got a T849 and didnt even know what it was until I did a quick look.
For GB just go to the Overcome thread then read and follow the PDF guide to flash kernel/rom etc.
For ICS follow the Overcome Guide and then put the latest CM9 nightly or other ICS based rom on your SD card along with gapps and flash them both (rom first) with recovery mode.

To find ROMs go to GALAXY ACE ANDROID DEVELOPMENT SECTION, there r many ROMs there, read the comments to know which one will suit you and download. Simple.

Dont worry there are many ROMs which are stable. But try avoiding this question coz actually there are many ROMs and it's against the rules to ask such questions.
To find ROMs go to GALAXY ACE ANDROID DEVELOPMENT SECTION, there r many ROMs there, read the comments to know which one will suit you and download. Simple.

If you get bootloop do 3 wipes via cwm recovery
if you can transfer files wihtout a cable look at my signature
if you want to unroot your device flash this UNROOT even you can flash a fresh stock rom via Odin and you'll lost root and cwm

i recommend you flash stock rom onto your device through odin first, as it will get rid of any root and stuff like that, and then flash these flashable zips, i have never tried unroot, i always reflash my rom if i need to do something
(i repeat for anyone trying to be a smartass and say it against forum rules and stuff, I DID NOT MAKE THESE FILES, I FOUND THEM ON A FORUM, WHICH I AM UNABLE TO FIND RIGHT NOW)

Hi all I've not done this before but not noob to the unlocking scene just first time for Android.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000
Firmware Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version I9000BVJV3
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9000BVJVC-CL679241 [email protected] #2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.BVJVC
What I'm looking to do is unlock it to allow me to use any network (currently orange).
after that I would then like to look at changing the rom or upgrading to the latest Rom's where able for SIII & S4. :victory:
I've spend a while reading other post so clearer than others but none that can help me as I'm having trouble finding the correct Kernel.
Please any and all help would be most appreciated.:cyclops:
plenty of unlock apps in the market

then follow this tutorial to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966
Update on advice
Hi thanks for posting advice.
I've managed to unlock the phone by using a combination of
Rooting it with Unlock Root via pc
That gave me Superuser (upgraded to pro for £2)
BusyBox Free, Titanium backup Free needed also
Then I was able to use Galaxy S Unlock to save files to sdcard and unlock to any network.:victory:
Now does this mean I'm rooted and don't have to follow all the steps that the link above advices
no need if already got busybox installed

Thanks for comments, can I ask now its rooted do I need to install anything else to allow me to change the Rom's such as newer official ones or once others are raving about.
Thanks.
updating or changing ROM was easy method but deadly also, wrong move will come to brick fone. if u really hav thought it well, juz follow any instruction on xda regarding i9000 after confirming ur device version, backed up baseband, build number n etc involve.
n now u ll need cwm for flashing. find cwm to gain access to recovery n thats where u gonna flash ur custom ROM, but read a lot before doing it as here in Q & A section, many success, also failure posted here, so be sure to read first mate

Congratulations on accomplishing your unlock. Now you might be helped with a good, rich toolbox and clear guides
I'm referring you to some wonderful threads I've come across during similar quests of my own.
(It's all there; but asking the right questions and not seeing the wood for the trees will always remain tricky )
So here are my top three suggestions for your toolbox, in order of importance and relevance. You might find some overlap among them.

As to what ROM to choose, I seriously like to push my own (eventual) ROM of choice, Mackay ROM (Unless gaming on the phone is your thing, which might bring up desires and demands that other ROMs serve even better.)
Good luck!
(And if this post was helpful, please hit THANKS. Thanks )
