getting a custom ROM on the T849 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've rooted it, yes.
never encountered so many problems as I have trying to get a ROM or update on this tablet. I went to older threads and the links are either broken or dead.
Is there ANY current guide on what I need to do to successfully flash a custom ROM on this?
I installed CWM but it doesn't boot into that either. ODIN recognizes it just fine, but I can't upgrade/patch the BL
help please!

After a quick search I found your answers. You should do the same.

you're right

Firstly I wasnt been a douche and I WAS helping you out. The best way to learn is to do research, search and read as you pick up allot along the way. I havent got a T849 and didnt even know what it was until I did a quick look.
For GB just go to the Overcome thread then read and follow the PDF guide to flash kernel/rom etc.
For ICS follow the Overcome Guide and then put the latest CM9 nightly or other ICS based rom on your SD card along with gapps and flash them both (rom first) with recovery mode.

If you have search the word T849 you will find so many posts.
Including those that I replied to, that has point blank answer.

Confused on how to get the leaked froyo

Hi everyone,
I have the Samsung Galaxy s Captivate and I want to upgrade it from 2.1 to froyo 2.2. I understand that ATT has not release it. However, I found this thread and froyo is leaked for everyone.
Here is the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
I was wondering if I need to be rooted in order to do this. If so, what is the most easy and most efficient way of doing it? I also want to get rid of all the ATT bloatware, I hear there is a great rom that gets rid of it.
Thanks for listening I can’t wait for your replies.
Michael.
Hello Michael,
The answer to all of your questions and more are in the thread you linked, including difficulties other people have had and sometimes their resolutions.
Good luck!
You found the thread you need to read. Go through it, even if it does take you about an hour to do. You need to read that way you know where information is on how to fix your phone if anything goes wrong. Everything you do on your phone is at your own risk.
Basically just flash using the one click ODIN for the JI6 build.
One important note is to remove the USB as soon as it reboots because otherwise you can face issues with it becoming stuck in airplane mode. I don't know why exactly but it happened to me and to others.
If you haven't flashed using Odin yet, search for the Odin3 thread. That will give you the steps to use the one click Odin.

Well, I only link the download and flash for it. The link provides no explanation on how to flash or install froyo.

[Q] Best Rom for ds7

I don't know which Rom is best for my t-mobile device which is rooted stock Rom 2.2.2 and want to upgrade rom. I know their are bugs in some so whichever has the least bugs and crashes would be great help and cut back the extensive reading thru tons of posts. Links to download Rom would be sweet too. I am a noob, but I got it figured out.

The safest way is:
Download a stock GB Rom and flash it via pc Odin following the instruction on Mr Ketan's Thread.
Root it using the same guide.
Go into Recovery
Flash Paranoid Rom
Flash new Gapps
Full wipe (recommended)
You are ready!
The DANGEROUS way:
Go into Recovery
Flash Abyss Kernel 4.2 (red pill)
Reboot into RECOVERY not system (option found in recovery-->advanced)
Flash Paranoid
Flash new Gapps
Full wipe (recommended)
You are ready!
P.S.
The second method may BRICK your device, so choose carefuly mate!
Hope that helps!
Can i do this thru mobile odin

Thats great
I was thinking of creating a thread where i can post tutorials for interchanging ROMs
Does the tutorial posted above applies to all the ROMs out there or is it diffirent for each ROM??
i think it will help everybody and also help me learning more about android
Thank you

If you don't know that already, then refrain from putting up tutorials just as yet. It would surely help people, but then you run the risk of misguiding them (or not being able to answer questions) since you don't seem to have a good grasp of the subject. Get some more game time and help yourself to knowing all the stuff, and you will get there.
But if you feel you know enough, go ahead and try.

Is great that there are people like you here, wanting to help out others.
I totally support your way of thinking but there is a major issue.
Every Rom has specific instruction created by the Dev. I'm thinking that the idea of creating a new thread just for instruction maybe it's over the actual needs of the users. IMO it's equally important if you reply to all the question made by new users here on Q & A Section. You can guide them to the correct direction keeping them safe from easy to make mistakes.
Please let me know what you decide and I will be there for more information and help bro!
Nice meeting you, regards!

well its true that I am uncertain of the requirements of flashing as of now thus I think it is not a good idea to post anything before learning it properly.
I will learn more about flashing and then will definitely put up a thread here at XDA
thank you very much
and yes the idea was not to just post tutorials for each ROM it was to post a guide on "how to flash successfully from one ROM to another" but again I am unsure of the proper steps myself. I think I will select a few ROMs and do a research by following those threads and then post anything related to them.
clicked thanks for both of you

Can the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S be Permanently bricked?

Hello Everyone
I have read quite a bit about flashing but have not tried it yet. I know that the phone can be soft bricked if there is some problem and can be subsequently recovered as well. I also read about something known as nand corruption and I guess that too is recoverable as well.
What I wanted to know was can this phone be permanently bricked and if yes in what cases can it be possible?
I searched google with the same question and found that there can be emmc chip failure but that affects the S2 and Galaxy Note and that too particularly the ICS roms only.
So I wanted to know what is the status of this phone as far as bricking permanently is concerned.
Regards
till what i have experienced so far that it can only be permanently bricked by throwing it on wall
P.s. till now i have flashed thousands of times...
Thanks! These kind of replies are motivating to start experimenting and trying some roms!

i would advice you to read the developer instruction carefully and in any doubt check with experience users/read comment in thread and then only flash anything...
I have expierence with sgs+, sgsII, sg5 (gt-i5500), htc one s & lg optimus x2.. the sgsII didnt worked anymore cuz a friend try'd to flash it but had no knowledge about what he is doing but then i ressurected it and now it works.. i think it is not possible to brick a phone (but i am only sure at samsung smartphones) if you do a mistake there are still ways to ressurect it if you did something wrong.

I was planning to use instructions from the website androidadvices for flashing. It has indepth tutorials. For ex-
http://androidadvices.com/update-galaxy-gt-i9000-stable-jellybean-411-firmware/#.UEe0FSK6Dsk
The tutorial for almost all roms seems to be same!
1.) Update your phone to xxjw4 through odin.
2.) Root your phone.
3.) Apply update via recovery mode.
And if you have to update another rom repeat the procedure above!
But reading few threads on XDA the information here seem very complicated for some roms! :-?

yes... few users are complaining about loosing imei and not able to connect to network... so best practice says always flash JB over ICS and ICS over GB... always flash JB over ICS....
If you need more info or links head to remics-jb thread in development section.
Its a nice rom and i am using since a long time..and you will see again me over there also.
Some Samsung phones can be bricked by flashing. The SGS is not one of them though - it's safe.
Search 'brick bug' or check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693704 for more info on which models can be bricked and how.

You meant always flash JB over gingerbread?
So that basic tutorial would suffice to flash roms?
Sure I would have a look at the remics-jb thread. Its time to do some more research now!

if you flash another phone's rom like i9100 s2 it will be bricked..Hard brick
But this is only happening if i9100 rom file has a pit file
Long story short flash an i9100 rom that has ext4.pit file, phone won't be alive... No download mode no recovery no charging animation...JTAG will be required.

New: help me to ROOT.

Hi,
I am new here and have just purchase Samsung Galaxy S i9000. I want to install ClockworkMod Recovery for flash ROMs. Please guide me with procedure. sorry for bad english. Thnanks.
Oh dear.
Don't post in the development sub-forum!
First piece of advice, read. read around, different posts, different messages, different google results, not only will you gain advice and information that can help you/save your ass in the future, you won't do rookie things like post in the dev forum.
And google anything you don't understand first. You're question is 99.9% of the time not original and already out there with several productive answers
But i'll cut you some slack.
Firstly, we need to know your current firmware. Go to Settings, and then about phone. look for your android version. and you're firmware. if you're unsure, take a picture of the about phone section and upload it here and we'll help you.
And could a dev shift this to the right place please

If youve got Gingerbread, then look for a custom kernel WHICH IS GINGERBREAD BASED NOT ICS OR JELLYBEAN BASED. Then using download a program called Odin. And put the Kernel in the PDA section of the program, if you dont know how to do this then there should be videos telling you how to do so on Youtube. Its the same flashing procedure for all the Galaxy S series of phones, if you type in "Galaxy s3 flash kernel" or something similar it should give you a general idea of how to do it. And remember to just read everthing they tell you to do for each kernel. Go through step by step and it should be easy. If something happens though cant be held responsible. gota be said, lol. A thanks would be appreciated if i helped

Give the guy a break we were all new once! First thing you should do is Google Odin software and learn how to use that. Second make sure any ROM you flash is made for sgs i9000. Lastly go to www.darkyrom.com and check out the section there on the i9000, the user totally dubbed has excellent video tutorials that can walk you through it all.
