I'm presently using Market 3.1.5 and using wifi it is really really slow. The issue lies with the DNS resolution time. The new market uses url like v11.lscache3.c.android.clients.google.com. The delay to resolve this url over wifi takes usually over 10 seconds. ( +/-). Apparently the new market over mobile network isn't affected by this.
Now how to speed up new market? Since it is a DNS resolution issue, I think Google should do something about it but in the mean time something a user CAN do to speed up the new market.
I use Set DNS to change my DNS servers to use OpenDNS (there are other choices like GoogleDNS, etc). Once set, the new market opens almost instantly.
Set DNS
https://market.android.com/details?id=uk.co.mytechie.setDNS&hl=en
Bye bye sluggish market.
Enjoy
Can confirm it works, went from 5-6 seconds before image load to about 1 seconds, thanks for this tip !
I realy works!
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Of cuz it works. I won't dare to post if ain't working good.
Kinda sick of the sluggish new market for some time now so tried several ways to speed it up.
This is the best for now, at least for me.
My market already opens instantly as I have set open DNS in my router
That explains the longish wait when I'm around my mates.

So now u set it on your phone and u don't have to worry about sluggish new market anywhere over wifi.
I had no idea that Market over 3G was faster. Thanks for the tip Temasek!

That's a 'bug' due to DNS resolution delay (I cannot confirm but that's my bet). Wifi usually should be faster.
fine tip, thx !
Holy cow, that's amazing thank you so much!!!
Never really noticed that the Market takes soo long to load until reading your thread.
And then I never thought the improvement would be that good either!
Thank you!!!
Works perfectly ! Thank you for the tip !
Works well for me with Google DNS thanks @temasek like always
Oh wow, that made all the difference. Was getting really pissed of at how slow the new market was... now it's instant haha ^^ Good stuff!
Kind of off topic but I like opendns better than google's dns servers

That's one reason I chose OpenDNS instead
Well, part of the reason is because of parental filters. For example, blocking porn.

I'm confused. Are you saying that the market does not use the dhcp-supplied dns-servers?
If that's the case why would changing the dns have any effect, it the market doesn't use the system's dns anyway?
This is not to cast doubt on the solution, just curious to how this is supposed to work. I get no tangible improvement in market startup-speed. Maybe I'm not suffering from the startup-delay anyway, 10 seconds as some have mentioned seems like a lot, mine starts in 4-5 seconds (admittedly too long) after a force-stop and cache-clean.
My phone/market seems to use the dhcp-dns, which of course is my local router, which again forwards to my favourite dns.

If your router already has your favourite dns in place then there wouldn't be sluggishness in market. But when u surf elsewhere with wifi and probably u will get sluggish market.
If u don't have any sluggish market then no need for this method.
Btw try phishing the market route. See what u get.
Thanks a bunch! No need to freeze the market updater anymore

Write Asurion in Market and download the address book and the mix ins you want to get installed...
Amazing app, let's see how it develops...
im gonna bumb this cause this app is pretty cool. It connects all your contacts with facebook and twitter or w/e social network u use. It takes a couple min to setup and sync all your contacts though. I liked the notifications that it gave you for each contact. I did find it a little slow and the interface isnt really apealing. All in all, its pretty good just needs work on the interface and on the speed as well...
Havin some difficulty figuring out how to set up different notifications.
Pictures for contacts dont update with the FB page.
Ugly UI.
But to be honest the FB portion is better than the FB app. Its worth it for that alone. Alot of functionality seemingly. Absolutely needs to be streamlined.
still too laggy for daily use. it froze my phone for a good 4 minutes.
I messed with it a little. Seemed to be really slow on my G1 with CM 4.1.999.
My personal faveorite contacts app is still StarContact - I just wish they'd update it... I'd at least like to see contact photos. I hate it when good apps go abandoned.
As it stands it certainly isnt an Addybook replacement by any means.
I do hope they stick with it.
This is easily replacing my phonebook. I love it! I don't know what these other people are talking about with lag, but on cyan 4.2.2 it is phenomenal! I am blown away by it and am so glad something similar to voxmobiles upcoming effort has come out.
i'd love to try it out, unfortunately it seems it's not yet available here in germany - at least not for me
if someone could pass it on to it'd be much appreciated
cheers
anyone have a direct link? I can't find it in the market. Thanks!
Yeah I cant find it either.
I read in one of the market comments that it doesn't sync with Google, is that true?
cant find this in the market i found the you tube and speed dialer but no address book. anyone have a link?
Those of you who can't find it, where do you live. My buddy from Canada couldn't find it either. Might be a regional issue but I'm not sure.

Also have T-Mobile USA and found it. Search for Asurion.
It's a great app, but I found it has issues with the MixIn settings. It still gives notifications even though I disable them. It appears other people have issues with the settings as well that want to change update intervals so they don't use so much data. Keep in mind this is still in beta. Can't wait for an update.
can't find it. I have t-mobile USA. searched asurion and only the speed dialer and you tube mix in shows up. I'm running xrom if that helps. even if i try getting the link straight form the website, it doesn't show up. weird.
Does anyone know of any Galaxy S GT-I9000 ROM with full proxy support?
I've tried DocRom, which has proxy support that only works for the built-in browser and is enabled for both 3G and wifi.
I've also tried the beta Cyanogen ROM, which does appear to have prxy support, but still has issues (it's a beta, after all) and doesn't have Market included.
I've tried for hours trawling google and can't find anything. So, anyone any ideas?
Cheers.

I dont think any such rom is available. . . ryt now .. !! if you happen to find one do post the link .
Found an app on the market, ASProxy (alsubang.github.com/ASProxy/index.html), no reviews available, but claims to enable WiFi proxy support... I was desperate enough, so I decided to be the guinea pig and spend the cash ($3)... and it worked!!!
I think it must be the only solution - I've looked forever on the market and via google. I was expecting to need a new ROM for this feature, but a simple app sorted it out.

Seems to work for everything, at least on my Uni WiFi. There are some issues I don't really understand in the documentation, so some networks may have issues, but not mine.
I have come across a very minor problem. My WiFi connection isn't great and drops occassionally. After it reconnects I have to manually disable and re-enable the proxy service.
There's a free program you might want to try here before you shell out, sounds similar:

Hey guys.
So...I've gotten this error in the browser depending on what Rom I'm using. What I've noticed is if I get this message in the browser then my email doesn't work either.
Now, I only get it when I use the data connection ... If I'm on wifi, I'm good.
The only articles I fine on this say that its something AT&T...but I don't get it with the stock Rom...so I'm not convinced. its obviously something with the Rom I flash.
Well... I just flashed GR-1.2...and I really like it! Gingerbread. And the netflix app!!!
So...any ideas how to resolve this? I won't always have wifi...and I need access to my exchange email for work at all times. unless someone knows of a decent convened (free) email app that supports exchange....but I really like the one that comes with the Rom.
Any help is much appreciated. I can't be the only one with this issue...or can I? :'(
I am having the same problem but only with particular browsers such as Skyfire. Works fine on wifi but won't do anything on wireless connection.
Yeah...like Opera mini will work fine because it uses a proxy. But Dolphin I get the same error...and the built in browser...really...I just want me exchange to work...and I'm sure if I just download another email app iy will work...but I can't find a free one that supports exchange.
No ideas at all?
=(
Why don't you post the link so we can all try it?
try reflashing or clearing your cache. other than that if your phone is paid for buy your company they often have browsing restrictions
A link to the ROM? Well...the link to GR-12 is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055622.
Firefly (an older version anyways) has the same issue. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284)
Axura (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872784) (like your ROM Adam) did NOT have this issue. All the email and browsers worked mint!
Thanks!

Yeah...I'm not convinced it is a carrier restriction because it seems to be ROM based...it works fine on stock ROM...my post above shows some other ROMs where this has happened to me.
SOLVED!
Ok...I thought for sure I've tried this before but I guess not.
It's the APN settings!!!! I went in and created a new APN with just the title 'AT&T' with the settings found here and it worked! It looks like the URL and Proxy are supposed to be blank and have to set the username and password. Those are the only differences but it works!
Now my email works mint on the data connection along with Dolphin!
Thanks Adam for looking! Sorry I didn't think of this sooner.
thank you so much
my problem got solved.
WAP settings
Yes, basically on the mobile networks you're going through a proxy server set up by the carrier. That's why the WAP settings matter

I'm struggling to get FarmVille2 working on the new Nexus 7 i bought for my good lady
Am i right in thinking that FB is detecting the device type as 'Tablet' and this is why it is forcing load of the FarmVille Express version, rather than the full game ?
If so, is there an easy way to change the device type to 'PC' or whatever to make it work ?
I remember that in order to get BBC iPlayer working on the HD2, it was a similar scenario, but involved an easy reg change, but guess this is different
Any help please ?
Many thanks

In browser, I presume?
In Chrome, you can click menu, then 'request desktop site'
In Firefox, you can download an addon 'Phoney' (I think this is what it's called), and set it to desktop.
I really don't know about other browsers.

I guess it will have to be FF Beta then ?
OK, update;
Can't get this working with FF Beta, Dolphin 8.5.1 nor Opera (Using Flash 11.1)
The closest i get is the game starts loading (with sound playing) but gets stuck at about half way. This is using FireFox Beta
Does anyone know of a definite way to get FV2 working on the N7, or have any other suggestion ? Perhaps a different browser/version of Flash ?
Many thanks

HTML STANDARDS cross platform compatility ISSUE
I think this is a similar issue as with Pogo games... My Better half would Love to play her Pogo games on her Android tablet.. I have tried nearly everything.. Even went thru talking to them on the pogo forums.. The bottom line is They do NOT SUPPORT the Android Flash/JAVA run time players.. Check some other flash game sites made for windows machines. You will see the same issue. This is one of the reasons there needs to be a HTML Standard for VIDEO/Animation on the net..
I would say your best best at this point is to go to Facebook support and see if there is any documentation about this. There could be a solution now.Its been many months since i tried doing exactly what you want. There was no solution at that time and no work being done to make it happen in sight..
My thoughts are until there is a True HTML Standard that all browsers and browser content MUST Comply with . We will have this type of issues. HTML 5 And then now 6 is supposed to be the issue.. People keep holding on to what they are using now. They do this to save dev. dollars. Until all back word compatibility in browsers are broken there will be NO True standard for cross platform games in a browser environment.
If you do find a solution Please let us all know..
Good Luck
Erica Renee ..
Chrome fails to load sites regularly. It seems to load, the status bar completes but the page remains blank. The fix is easy enough, switching to a new tab and retrying the webpage/Google search loads the page properly. It's annoying though. Has anyone else experienced this and/or know how to fix it permanently?
Thanks
For me fails to load at first then refresh and works fine. Are you tried uninstall/clear cache/reinstall?

Just my opinion.. Chrome is a terrible browser. There's many superior ones on the play store.
Tho it could be the sites themselves as well.

Thanks for the reply, you're probably right. Unfortunately I like the passwords and bookmarks syncing too much.
It's a Chrome bug for sure though. I think something similar used to happen with my Nexus 7 (2013). I don't even really no why I posted it here, it really should be posted on Google's Product Forums.

I am running the 4.4.2 GPE Rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/fxz-xt1053-xt1060-google-play-edition-4-t2715488) on my VZW Dev X. And it hasn't been a problem on the N7 recently.
