ROM question - HD7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't gotten my hd7 yet. When you add a ROM on the hd7 does it change the layout of the phone or do you still have the big annoying squares? I'm considering trading my current phone for the hd7 for the screen larger screen. But don't like the win7 layout.

[Q] Nexus One vs HD2

I have just sold my iPhone and I plan on getting an Android device for under $250 off contract. Two options that caught my eye were the Nexus One and HD2 (not an official Android device I know).
I was wondering if there were any specific advantages of the Nexus One over the HD2? Both seem to have rather enthusiastic developer communities (if I recall correctly, they both received Gingerbread ports on the same day) and the hardware on both are equally as solid IMO. Here are the pro's of each I have gathered so far -
Nexus One
AMOLED display
official Google device (thus more people working on it, faster official updates)
metal construction
notification light trackball
HD2
4.3" display
metal construction
physical buttons
seems to have an enthusiastic modding community in terms of Android ports
can boot Windows Phone 7 as well
Any words of advice?
HD2 - Better Digitizer and no power button problems.
It really comes down to the screen size and which you prefer. If my Nexus One ever has anything more than the power button fail and an easily hackable 4.3" device has not come out yet and I can get an HD2 for a reasonable price I would get that to hold me over.

So aside from screen size preference and the faulty power button, are there any other advantages/disadvantages of each? I think I would prefer the 4.3" display over the Nexus One's 3.7" given that its LCD is not much worse than the AMOLED.
The specs are on par with each other, same SOC/GPU, same ram as well, so they are virtually identical spec was.
The only thing I can't speak for is running Android on a non native phone. But judging by the following and the video reviews, I can only conclude it runs the OS just as well as a native device would.
I have both...and love them both. I would say that you could probably end up with a little more in your pocket with the HD2, and if you are here in the USA, you will have a bit more room for app storage with the HD2 without having to resort to using A2SD workarounds
...I have been using the same gingerbread rom on my HD2 now for about 2 months and its super solid.

Indeed. Spec-wise, it is very much the same as its Android and WP7 counterparts. There should be no compatibility issues in that respect. My mindset is that the HD2 is a better phone for me but I've come here to see if there are any real advantages that Nexus One owners have noticed. Perhaps looking forward, the amount of development for it?

I couldn't help but notice the phones in your signature. Out of the four, which one would you recommend the most? Those are all in the list of phones I am considering for purchase...
The HD2 has a better touch digitizer, bigger screen, WP7 compatible, more internal memory.
The nexus one has a hardware defect with the touch screen ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsSUqkh8pcI) , it really restricts you from using emulators, or makes playing multi-touch games highly frustrating, and difficult.
I've owned the nexus one since launch, and I really regret not getting an HD2( my friend owns one). Trust me, go with the HD2

Thanks for the advice! I believe I will indeed be going with the HD2. I really love the way the hardware looks and feels from a design perspective as well.

Sorry for the late reply...its hard for me to choose phones, I have more than what is listed in my signature also. I tend to keep going back to my MT4G a lot...it has a good screen size and the phone is not that big...ample storage space for apps and a quick processor. The only thing I hate is the stock rom, but that is easily replaceable.

The HD2 uses the same crappy ass ClearPad 2000 touch sensor used in the N1. So on this point, they are equal.

[Q] Switching to the Vivid.... ideas?

So i have the AT&T Galaxy S II right now. I want an LTE phone with a 4.5"+ screen...
the Vivid looks pretty nice.
Questions:
-Is the Vivid's bootloader locked or unlocked?
-Is Vivid going to get CM9 officially?
-Is the build quality good? Better than the Galaxy S II?
-Is the battery life as good as the GSII's?
-Is it worth going with the Vivid now, or should I wait for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD or the Sony Xperia Ion?
Thanks for the help!
Bootloader is unlockable via HTC dev site
I have owned the sgs2 aswell and the vivid is far more heavy but I feel like it is crafted better, however more breakable screen wise.
HTC has stated that the device will get ics first quarter 2012. So as long as we have willing devs we can get cm9, there are already a few working on it unofficially

I have the Vivid but I'm goin to be takin a look at the Ion when it comes out. 4.6 HD screen,12mp camera and LTE sounds good. I like the Vivid but I have a problem with gettin new phones when they are released.

Tbh anything over 4.3 just seems too much and SE has failed so hard in recent years I have a hard time believing they are gonna hit one out of the park.
The SGS2 was great for dev, now that the vivid is bootloader unlockable were gonna see some movement here. It's getting exciting.

I'd wait for the Ion.
Came from the skyrocket and I do not regret it at all. Vivid feels like a phone. Skyrocket feels like a toy. Vivid screen is better. Skyrocket is good also. Vivid battery is great for me on a Rom I'm working on. Skyrocket was only good on cm7 . Table will turn once we get cm7 or cm9. I'll have to give the Vivid the belt between the two.

Coming from the SGS (the first one), I bought the SGSII only to return it for the Raider after two days. I never liked touchwiz (I used ADW launcher) it's to simple and not very friendly. The widgets suck and the UI is to iPhone, with its big color full icons that take way to much room. The lock screen sucks even on the SGSII, if you enable pin/password etc you loose the ability of notification on the lock screen and no notification led (unless you use bln and backlight keys), this was enough to push me away. I like the ability to see text, change tracks, see the weather all without unlocking the phone and still have it locked with a pattern. Yes i tried Widget locker and al though it worke it involved to many widgets and apps just to get what the Raider already has.
These are the few things i disliked about Samsung and they are still an issue with the SGSII, all in all the Raider in my opinion is the far superior phone despite what reviewers say, if Samsung made the touchwiz better and not stip everything that is android i would have sticked with the SGS.
I had the Captivate before this Vivid so i personally am blown away haha. I have two co-workers who have the skyrocket and they want my white vivid. I personally love both phones but i recommend the vivid especially if you are planning to do any rooting. As of now i get about 2 days battery life using RumRaider beta11 with fairly heavy use considering i sell phones. Like everyone has said the vivid is heavy and you can feel it but i have noticed i drop light phones more because its hard to feel when they are slipping. the vivid of course doesnt have the amazing samsung screen though which is to me the only downside. Im running 47mbps on my vivids LTE which so far none of my coworkers have got on there Skyrocket. HTC also i believe is a far better company. its all personal preference though when it comes down to it. Either way i don't think you will be disappointed.

I however can tell a difference. I've had my Vivid since I picked up mine and my wife's white Vivids from Frye's in Atlanta during their 80 dollar sale this past Sunday. Coming from the 800x480 resolution display of the Inspire, this is more, well, Vivid. To me, there is a BIG difference between the displays in the resolution department. Yes, the Samsungs have vibrant displays from the SuperAMOLED+. However, the resolution is only 800x480. The Vivid, on the other hand, has an equally beautiful qHD display. The resolution on these badboys is a healthy 960x540. The winner of best display, for me, is the 960x540 qHD display of the Vivid.

Exactly xD its not much of a difference but samsung i believe is the only phones with AMOLED screens which gives a nice liquid color but HTC did such a great visual job that the difference is hard to see. I think its just cause i work with phones all day i can see it haha
----FINAL----
I have decided to just wait and see what comes out in Q2 and maybe Q3. I happen to be insanly lucky and found a Nexus One in the street!
I will be using that until either:
1) I can find the owner (I wanna be a good person)
2) I find an awesome phone that I'm going to be satisfied with.
There's also the Samsung note that is suppose to be insane. If u wanna check into that

The question is why would anyone want an iphone?
It's way quicker even with the 3g and I would get it brand new probably close to free , I could switch back and the resell value is crazy, I'm kinda interested
No offense to the community but if I had anyother duo core droid I wouldn't even consider this trade

I had the 4 and played around with the 4s and I can't stand them. Way to locked down to play around. Now if you want a phone to just be a phone with apps then I think it's a great choice, but if you wanna tinker android is the way to go

I can't argue with the resale value. Even though most well used iPhones have well used batteries that don't hold a charge well, iZombies still buy them.
Quicker? Are you kidding me. I guess you don't live in an LTE area.
To each his own, but I couldn't give up the widgets, customization and flexibility of Android. If I wanted to work with grids of icons I'd go back to Windows 3.1.

Facebook probably wasn't the best to test this. The Android Facebook app has always been plagued with issues....speed being one of them
So, if you want a phone for facebook, ios all the way!!!!
hell no.. I sold my iphone4 and got the vivid.. My wife had the I4, but pushed me to get her the 4s.. We are not in LTE area but I always get a faster speed then her. The bigger screen and so on.. also she likes to watch flash videos and at night she grabs my phone because her super apple cant do it.
Apple is easier to use and easier to back up with itunes. but you miss out on allot of functionality. I found a new home now and I dont think I will go back.. hell even now they say iphone 5 might still have the same size screen.. haha F them. They blew off allot of their customers with the i4s.
Vivid has
- bigger screen
- removable battery
- FM radio
- configurable, less expensive memory with SD card slot, making the phone less expensive
- already LTE equipped instead of waiting for iPhone 5
- more customizable
- can sideload non-market apps
- just about every decent app that iPhone has (with a few exceptions)
My fav thing about android that you'll have to kiss goodbye: functional voice control. Sure, you can tell siri to open the pod bay doors, or ask her where to dump a body, but half the time she tells you the servers are unavailable - and apple just keeps overloading their voice control servers. I admit that I've had trouble with voice search too, but in playing with siri, I prefer voice search.
Like anything, there are pro's and con's.

The way I see it, you are either a iPerson or you are not. Once you got used to using an Android phone, there is no turning back to the iPhone. If you started with iPhone, chances you won't want to switch either.
I was on the iCrap before and I was bored of it in a day, you can try it. But I guarantee your will be sorry. If you are used to have new Roms and features and hacks widely available on a regular basis, and Like to customize all you can. Do not bother to get the icrap...

If I wanted an iphone I would be typing on it now . I like the design and the stability of ios, but as I spend about 2 to 3 hours on my device's screen I need at least 4.5", also LTE is useful. Some of my friends are considering switching from iphone to bigger devices, tired of zooming in all the time, not enough estate on the screen. I also can't give up the customization of the Android, I couldn't live without widgets, bad habit picked up from winmo devices with custom launchers .
Without exaggeration, if I would have an iphone 4s lying around, I would probably only take it with me when I go out at night for display, but I'd keep the vivid for day to day use.

What phones out there can be a "replacement" kaiser?

There are many threads about the pros/cons of different phones, but i thought i would pose this question to Kaiser owners:
What android or WP7 phone would you recommend?
I love the form-factor of the kaiser and dont think i can go to a touch-only device - need that physical keyboard!
From my research i've been eyeing off either a moto droid 3 or 4 or a samsung captivate glide.
So, what have previous Kaiser owners upgraded to?
-Dan
I'm from Europe and this is the reason why still I don't have a Motorola Droid 4 / Milestone 4
I'm still waiting for GSM version and from what I know...I'm not alone
Because from latest news HTC not planing another qwertz phone anymore
Thanks mate - I've currently gone with the Samsung Captivate Glide. Its a good phone, tho the keyboard doesn't compare with the kaiser. After a month of typing with it I still misjudge keys. Plus I think my fingers are too fat as they don't quite fit between the top row of the keyboard the the edge of the screen. I also didn't realise how much I'd miss the tilting screen..
However, I still think this was the best option for my circumstances.
(Also didn't realise how much I would miss winmo6 and espec the MS Exchange support...)

What phone to buy as alternative to htc hd2

Hi guys, I 've being really happy to use my htc hd2 for nearly 3 years. I was using WM6 custom roms first, then i moved to Android and than to dual WP7/Android SD. It is really honorable and cool device. But now I am thinking to move forward and get new device. In a couple of month when WP8 will be released I will be looking to a new devices and may be pick one of them, preferably HTC or may be Nokia lumia or may be something else but definitely not iPhone.
Anyway what I am really want is to be able dual boot my new device like HTC HD2 does. So what do you think is there are potentially something like that will come up or should I better order one more brand new HTC HD2 on ebay . What do you think.
I see you like customization ! If I am right then you shouldn't go with wp devices. As the beggining you won't be able to have android. Don't mention about dual boot. You should go with some device like HTC one X or GS 3 !

what's wrong with the iphone you can customize the case to it
The nokia phone looks good right now but yeah, not too much customizing yet from looks of it, This based off of lack of customizing on Windows phone 7...
I don't even want to suggest it but if it does come out this year, I can't see blackberry 10 phone doing well against likes of iphone 5/lumia 920/galaxy 3... but who knows? At least blackberry was fairly customizable back then... part of rim's problem was making a phone that outdo current market then delaying the phone and it is outdated itself by time it is out :S at least nokia this time is putting out something that'll lead the pack for a while, no word on how the microsoft side of it is going though.
