[Q] How to Hard_SPL with Windows 7 - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I have been constantly searching the forums and Google, and everything talks about HARD_SPL and WMC or WinXP.
Obviously that does not help with Windows 7. Is there any way to HARD_SPL with W7?
Best would be with SD Card, but after reading this forum very carefully, I think no one has figured out how to do that.
Any ideas?

You just have to use Windows Mobile Device Center. Hard-SPL installation works great on both win7 x86 and win7 x64.

When dual booting like that, you have to install the OS's in an oldest to newest order.

I've never used Vista Boot Pro, so I can't answer that question. Really, all you have to do is install XP on the first partition and then install Vista on the second partition. When the computer boots up, it will give you a choice of which OS to boot into.
did wid vista boot pro....thx

That's not actually true, you can install newest then oldest (ie: Vista then XP)
Follow this guide it works perfectly, I did it.
I guess I've been doing it the old skool way then.

the easiest method is that if u have a vista CD boot from vista cd and then choose the repair method and a new screen will appear and then from there choose repair startup problems and then it will repair it and in boot section after restarting the computer it will show windows vista and windows xp !!! this is the easiest way to do it !!!
or you can just use vmware on vista like i did.

Upgrading wizard in Vista.

This post is dedicated to all frustrated vista users.
I am also a vista home premium user and i use WIZARD.
All i cant do is upgrading Wizard in vista by any PROVEN METHOD.
And there are many like me.
So, i am using VMware workstation to upgrade my wizard and hermes mobile. I have done it many times without any problem.
VMware is a software to create virtual machines in it like Windows XP....
All you need is VMware and winXP cd.
link for VMware full version is:
warez link removed -- Try the free VMWare server version instead: http://www.vmware.com/download/server/ (register with VMWare for serial #)
first download it and install xp in it.It will not take any big space in your pc and you will also not need any partition or formatting.
After downloading it open it and select new virtual machine and install XP in normal way as we install on PC.
After installing install active sync 4.5 link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
Now in vista go to WMDC and disable usb connection.(it is not required)
goto VMware(remember that your curser is in vmware) and connect your wizard................and upgrade normally as you do it in XP.....
And ~~ENJOY~~
Any query is invited........thank you..........

Remove the warez-link or this will be deleted.
I've updated the OP's post with a free version available from VMWare directly. If you have any questions as to why this was changed, please see the forum rules.

USPL and Windows 7

Hello,
I have already moved to Windows 7, which is very stable and much faster then Windows Vista...
There are some problems with the Windows 7 and USPL...
Is there a configuration guide, which explains the procedure, how I can manage the USB connection problems within Windows 7.
Many Thanks
Roman
You need to update the USB drivers.
The following post will explain how. This works for Windows 7 aswell as Vista.

One thing to note, you have to put your phone in bootloader and connect it via USB for it to show the Mobile Device - HTC USB in Device Manager.
One laptop I was on I knew I had to apply the fix on so hadn't tried without updating, and took me forever to find out why I couldn't find the driver to update.
I used a small program called "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider 1.3b".
Its freeware for using unsigned drivers in Windows 7.
I'm using Windows 7 x64 and USPL works perfect now.
Thanks

Hello,
Had to upgrade my Windows 7 to build 7077 first....!
Then it worked @ 1st try... ;-)
Roman
I have problem with installing driver on Windows 7 64-bit (build 7077). I always get error: This device cannot start (Code 10). Does anyone have solution for it?
I had to get to 7077 as well, i couldnt make it start on 7057 or 7068 either.
I just solved it, but I can't explained how... I tried it again and again.. did some restart of HD and of Windows 7 and finally I was successfull . My tip is to re-connect HD on USB before installation...
I use 7077 x64 and no issues with it whatsoever. I had no issues at all with any build and actually it gets the drivers and Windows Mobile Device Center automatically for me. Check your system drivers like chipset and usb controller for updated versions maybe?
Thanks
Many thanks for the solution that you give to us.
I have been testing every release of Windows 7 since 7000 and as long as you install WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1) and then update the HTC USB Sync driver (put your phone into bootloader and update the driver in device manager with the one from the guide in my signature) you won't have any issues flashing roms. This is for both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

Running HARD-SPL/Flashing ROMs without Windows?

Hi,
Just got an Xperia, and I'd like to follow the tutorials on flashing the WM6.5 OS onto it.
My problem initially is that all my PCs run Mandriva Linux, not Windows, which means that the .exe files etc provided won't run on my machine.
Is there a solution for this problem? Obviously I have no ActiveSync etc and although I can still connect the phone via USB, I'm a little nervous about trying to work out how to do this off the cuff - don't want to end up with a brick after all!
Cheers
Dave
If you have just got it, then start searching and reading first !!!
sticky threads have the most information you need.
anyway, quick response, hardspl with no windows i don't think so, but rom flashes yes you can with the microsd method.... you'll find info everywhere....
I recommend you to use a xp boot cd or other windows boot cd that can mount the OS in your pc or to make a partition with windows...
Because to do a hard-spl you WILL NEED WINDOWS....Activsync from microsoft...Shuold by active and running conected to your xperia of course...
For roms flashing you can use MicroSd method so not problem with your pc OS...
READ and Study a lot after doing....ANYTHING
Wish you Luck
Thanks guys.
I had already seen and read through the points on using Micro SD cards for the ROMs, but hadn't been able to locate anything on doing the Hard SPL any way without using Windows. Thanks for clarifying what I thought was the likely answer.
Looks like I'll be spending my lunch hour productively at work next week...
the easiest way for you will propably be :
1. Go get Virtualbox (free!) or VMWare Workstation/Server
2. Setup a new virtual machine.
3. Install Windows XP in this machine.
4. Install virtualbox guest additions in virtual machine.
5. Install Activesync
6. Connect your X1 to the usb while virtual machine is on focus.
7. Put Hard SPL on that sucker.
That's how I did it and have done it for some friends.
Alternatively just do it on one of your buddie's pc who has got Win.
It takes only few minutes.
regards
