Running MIUI 1.10.7
The Capacitive buttons stay lit constantly, even when the phone is locked and the screen is off the buttons remain lit.
Might it have something to do with the bootloader I'm running? I had tried to load the i897 GB bootloader per the suggestion of someone else for another problem I was having. Anyway I can check which bootloader I'm running? And which bootloader is suggested? Links appreciated.
I should add, this was a new install. Because of other issues I was having, I flashed back to stock, flashed bootloader, then flashed MIUI. The button lights not shutting off has been apparent ever since first boot.
Thanks
I've never used MIUI so I can't say for sure, but this sounds like Backlight Notification (BLN). BLN uses the capacitive buttons like a notification LED since the Captivate doesn't have one.
If you clear all of your notifications and the lights go out when the screen turns off, that's what is going on. They'll come back on when you have a notification waiting.
hmmm... I think your right. They are off now and I don't have any notifications. Maybe it was recently implemented for the captivate, I don't recall seeing this the last few months. Thanks for the reply.

It was put in the new version of the platypus kernel.

That is a great feature, but how on earth do I turn it off?! The BLN app doesn't not do it (it gives me something like "BLN mod not installed")... nothing seems to work.

Hey all,
hope this is the right Thread for my post.
I've found out that the touch buttons of my device(Galaxy i9000) are lightening as long as the display is on.
On the device of my girlfriend the buttons are lightening only for 3 seconds then they turn off again even the display is still on.
We both have Froyo 2.2.1 XXJQ3 flashed over Odin. Nothing else is modded.
No rooting, no lagfix.
I know thats it's normal that the buttons are only lightening for 3 seconds, but my girlfriend wants me to set her mobile so it's like mine.
And I have the question why my buttons are lightening as long as the display's on and other phones of the users here not?
Hope u pros can help me again.
Greetz and thx
That's really strange...mine only go in in some apps, when I click them, our when I an typing but generally they are off...will look into it. Are you sure you both running exactly the same firmware?

I'm on the same firmware flached wit Kies (official) and mine is fine. If keep touching the screen, the buttons keep lightening but if after two seconds they are off.
flash the official version it's in kies
Hey guys,
Yeah I'm sure that we both have the same firmware, because I flashed them together. First mine then her's.
Today I flashed both to 2.3.3 and again my buttons stay on and her's not.
In my opinion it looks much better when they stay on as long as the display is on especially when it's dark, but im still curious whats the reason for this.
Still hope u can help me.
Thx and greetz
keep the lights on
Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem with my phone - especially annoying if you are
using phone in darkness.. App "keep the lights on" is a smooth solution..
Give it a try, step out of the dark
cheers
saving battry
I know that it saves battery but why the heck it doesn't do that on my phone?
Never changed something and I have to say that I really like that they stay on, but is there a chance that we can set up if lights stay on or not?

For me on XXJPK, while the app works, after I lock and unlock the buttons light up again so you would have to double tap the widget to turn the lights off every time... :-(
@markdj57
On JP3 and JPO works just fine - after turning the widget (and lights) on, I simply
throw the widget in trash and the buttons and display become one

XXJVK known issue/feature: Button lights are always on when screen is on.
However, this phenomenon should not occur on older firmwares.
Is there a simple fix yet?
Look at this post, worked for me and others.

I found that the app "screen filter" makes the soft key lights turn off after a couple of seconds when it's running, other than that I've never experienced it :/

Has anyone had this issue?
I have tried a few different ROM's and have had this problem on all, the phone will work but sometimes when the phone is locked and asleep you cannot get the screen back.
If you ring the phone it will ring but you can't wake the phone up (the screen is off).
If I then pull the battery and reboot all is well until the next time, which is random.
I will remove all my programs to see if there is one of them causing the issue, I don't believe it is the rom as it has happened on a few of them.
Have you wiped your phone when flashing the different roms? I've had it sometimes, i think it could be a ram management issue...

Yeh, I always do a factory/wipe, dalvik cache wipe.
I think it might have been TW4.5, I did some research and installed TW4 Manager I then updated TW4.5 to the latest Version. So far it hasn't happened yet but i'll give it a couple more days.
Thanks.
Yh ive been reading and TW4 generally accelerates the issue (because its a ram hog? not sure i dont use it) Im currently using Golauncher with system tweaks, but was told that nemus launcher and system tweaks was a better combination... Seems to be working, ive had less force closes or issues of that type
it's the proximity sensor. needs replaced.

I don't think so...
The proximity sensor is only used when your in a call. It should not have any effect when he tries to wake it from his pocket after a while...
Well i am on 2.3.5 and using golauncher and never had any problems. Still my best guess is the damn sensor. On samsung apps there is an app called sensors i think and that app tells u what is working inside the phone.

If I recall correctly yeah I had this issue once on JVR and once on JVS and now on JVT I got it a few hours ago

Sounds like a great app but seeing as the screen doesn't turn on that app might as well be useless in this case
No screen turns on, its just when it turns off it wont come back on...
I have the same issue with my SGS. Running stock version of JVT.
Wake up in the morning to phone alarm but screen is black. Pushing home button or any other button does nothing. Had this happen a few times now and only solution is to pull the battery
In order to help you we need to know what you are running currently and what you have tried to resolve the issue so far, can please make as detailed account as possible
It's seems that everybody have this same issue. I have exactly this same - phone is working - buttons are lit, but the screen is blank. I'm on 2.3.5 stock firmware.
Trying to solve this I already did wipe and even formatted the internal storage.
What's more interesting is that this same happens to my wife's Galaxy Mini (S5570) !!.
I can remember though that when my phone was on v2.2 about a year ago it was working ok.
small tip:
What you can do instead of pulling the battery out is to press the power button for about 10 seconds ( phone will turn off) release and the press it again for few seconds to start again.
You don`t need to press power again, just keep it pressed until you see the samsung bootlogo.
Mine has started to blackout too, maybe it`s related to some installed software. It worked ok still few months ago. My galaxy mini is working ok tho, has only few market apps installed.

The bug is called SOD (Sleep of Death). Apparently a Gingerbread only bug (I think deep sleep was introduced in Gingerbread).
Your phone is going into deep sleep, and can't be woken agian.
I don't know if there is a fix for it, but you could try search for SOD on these forum pages.

i had this issue on cm7 with neo kernel, but sometimes it responded after some time
i think its black magic made by apple and will kill our cats
As Herman76 said, this is the SOD, I used to get them quite frequently. I created a thread with a possible workaround. So far haven't got any new SODs.
Hi Guys!
I got a Galaxy S I9000B to replace my Galaxy Ace. As soon as I got it I flashed it with the latest CM7 nightly. I know there is CM9 and 10 for this phone but I had CM7 also on my ACE and I definitely love this rom and GB.
So far everything is great, this an old but really good piece of phone.
Anyways, I noticed something that on my ACE with CM7 didn't happen.
Everytime I have my phone locked (not using it) and receive a SMS text, besides notificating me with the ringtone and vibrate, the softkeys turns on and keep that way until I press the home button. I didn't wait much than 4 or 5 minutes, it might be some kind of notification that this CM7 has for the I9000B, and it might turn off if I wait more but I didn't try that yet. Also it might be a bug, I don't know.
The question is, do you guys know if this is normal ? It it does, do you know if there is an option to turn this option off or at least configure the time the softkeys are turned on ?
Thanks!
It is perfectly normal for your phone to do this:
The Galaxy S lacks a notification LED so the softkey LEDs are used to show unread messages or other notification.
Since I've never used CM7 I can't tell you if there is any option to change the duration, maybe someone else knows more about that.

Thanks dude! I was hoping to be normal since I didn't want bugs hehe.
I was kind of surprising since I have never experienced this behavior with my previous Galaxy ACE (which don't have any notification led either).
If anyone owns CM7 with this phone I would really appreciate if I can get some advise on this. Is there anyway to configure the time out for it or to disable it ? I have just received a text message and let the phone alone without touching the home button for 17 minutes and the lights were still there
Thanks!
Hi,
is there a possibility to change the notification-led settings? Like that the LED should shine instantly or blink so long till i unlock the phone?
Thanks...
(I´ve the One for 2 days now and want to install TrickDroid)
There's not much you can do with the led
And you should flash trickdroid
Hmm, but why? Is it not possible to change the kernel "a little bit" so you can config the led?
You can download a led app from Google play but you got to be rooted it doesn't work very well
There's also LightFlow, but apparently there's some serious compatibility issues with the One at the moment. Perhaps when there's an update.
so as of right now, there is no way to extend the duration of the flashing led notification without rooting? it really doesn't make sense that it would turn off after a few minutes. it seems obvious that it should remain blinking until you've viewed the notification...or is it just me? can this be done if the phone has been rooted?
Just got the Nexus 6 a few days ago. I could have sworn that before I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, and rooted that when I got a text or email the LED would blink. The last day or so I noticed it isn't blinking when I get a notification. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I understood that although there is an LED under the top speaker it isn't activated. The only solution I remember seeing is using Lightflow on a rooted device. Are you sure your memory isn't playing tricks?
I don't believe the LED on this device has the ability to flash, just stay solid when active. Stock doesn't have this enabled, I have seen the setting to activate the LED in CM 13, but when I've used it there, it just stays solid when a notification comes in. I've never tried Lightflow so I do not know if that can flash the LED or not.
You can do software based flashing through lightflow but, it is a bit janky and has random intervals. Solid is probably what you want to do with the nexus since it isn't supported by the hardware (that's my understanding at least). In response to the OP, there is really no way you had the LED flash without having root
Only custom ROMs or being rooted allows activations of the LED. By default it is not used.
I ended up flashing Pure Nexus rom and it has the led enabled but it is solid only. Works for me. Thanks for the reply's guys.
And it is quite possible my eyes were playing tricks on me. I was transferring stuff from my old phone and maybe I mistook a notification on my old phone for the new one.
