Any one know if there the same? hardware wise? Like if I where to flash a US/at&t
based rom would it run/work on a Rogers Captivate?
Its my understanding that some of the at&t roms work with the Rogers version...But do all of them work?

From what I understand, they will work, but there are caveats, though they can be fixed some way or another.

Well like I said, I'm just assuming, but here is a Rogers ROM that you may be interested in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284
But I know that they will work. You can try flashing one and seeing for yourself what issues arise.
Ironically, there is little if any Rogers left in that rom.
I have an i896(rogers), and so far everything is good. I have yet to flash a rom, but the kernals work as well as the modems.
On the sticker inside the battery cover, the only thing that says i896 is the model number. Every other designation on the sticker refers to the phone as an I897
my build number is 1011.
Guys, the rogers captivate is literally the exact same, other than the model number. Every rom I've tried has worked without a glitch, and I've been flashing for a few months now.
Thank you for your input Escapist! You answered my question!
Hey guys,
Seven2099 just discovered yesterday that frameworks can be swapped without repercussions through the Telstra SBF. This universality of frameworks is a wonderful thing that will benefit developers, MOD creators, and theme creators alike.
I recently promised you all that I would create a Telstra version of my ROM GingerBlur. I will no longer be creating that version due to the fact that the AT&T version should work just fine on the Telstra stock ROM. The last thing I want is a splintered, fragmented international Atrix community.
Universalize!
I ask that developers and MOD creators begin to universalize their works around a common AT&T framework. Since we know the AT&T framework works on international devices post-Telstra-SBF, let's all try to create around that framework! This will open up more possibilities for all of us.
Themers: use GingerBlur!
Themers, I ask that you use a common framework to begin with. Since we know GingerBlur is universally compatible with AT&T phones and post-Telstra-SBF phones, I urge you all to use GingerBlur 3.0 as a base for theming.
GingerBlur 3.0 will be newly re-developed with a framework that can be easily compiled and decompiled.
Any comments, suggestions, or questions are encouraged below!
Thanks,
Kenneth
There has been a couple of good points made below. Remember to flash at your own risk. Only flash if you are not already on AT&T. Just flash if you understand the risks (possible exclusion from official Bell updates, etc).
This is wonderful news! Does this mean I can try out the current version of Gingerblur, or wait until v3.0?
Nevermind, I should've read Seven's thread first lol
let universal bad-ass creations from the community devs begin

With that, how about Bell users without an original Bell SBF to revert back to if needed?
I am definitely on board. Just want to make sure im covered.
Btw awesome work on the discovery!

i don't think it is convenient to urge canadian users to flash the telstra sbf. we don't know the future repercussions, if any, that they could face with it. flashing a different carrier's sbf should be done at their own risk.
we also don't know if future releases from other carriers will be compatible. after all, the at&t sbf doesn't work on the bell version.
let's not jump the gun early.
I also confused if att users should flash the sbf mentioned.

no, there is no need. this post is for international users rather than AT&T users, just asking us to flash to an SBF that is safe with our devices, and at the same time it's compatible with AT&T's frameworks.
While I'm not opposed to flashing the telstra sbf, and i think the benifits of universal themes probably outweigh the risks, i have been playing it cautious until there is clarity that any bell update (including ota) can also be flashed via rsd when they come out...can that be confirmed? If so then there is no risk, if not, we would be at risk of only being able to upgrade telstra veraion when it's out.
Part of this caution is due to the incompatibility of the bell and att sbfs.

i agree, but if Bell ever does decide to release an OTA chances are an sbf of it that can be flashed will appear (as demonstrated by the 1.8.3 sbf in this very forum)
although i guess we woulda thought the same thing about the stock sbf... so i understand your caution.
I understand the worry about possibly being excluded from updates. That is totally warranted. Flash at your own risk. We've gotten a good load of SBF files in here, and I think we'll be able to pull that off in the future. But, definitely flash at your own risk.
I will, but Op sounded a bit authorititative, just bringing some devils advocate.

I dont think you understand. At the moment there is absolutely no way to flash back to stock Bell.. so anyone who modifies is potentially un-updateable as you so state. It doesn't matter what you think is safe.. no mattter how many nandroid backups you have of your Bell ROM, once you have modified it there is NO way to go back.
So any hesitation you have is qualmed by the fact that:
Until we get an OTA update we wont have an SBF that's flashable.
What Ken did not state is that Telstra 1.4.2 works on Argentinian and Brazilian phones as well.. This is very common as it takes a lot of resources to make carrier specific and region specific phones. For the most part, Motorola will cater to ATT because its a giant and the main market is the US market but for world markets they are generally kept the same.
This can be said about the SGS series as of recent years.
Therefore it is a wise idea that if you're going to MOD your phone, you understand that there is NO going back. If you reodex STOCK Bell, that is not PROOF that the OTA will work... therefore the only way will be to follow ATT users footsteps. This means:
When OTA is released, someone will have to dump the update and then we will all be able to flash onto it.
I think its very shortsighted to think that you should remain capped and waiting, especially knowing how bad Bell is about releasing updates.
Anyone who lives in Canada should know this....

To make things REALLY clear.
AT&T users should stay with their own SBFs..
This universality is specific to BELL and World Phone users, (brazil, argentina, australia).
@ Ken,
Please update the OP by stating that this allows the other smaller minority groups (Canada, brazil, argentina, australia) to take advantage of the work being done by the US community. The fact that we can flash your framework on our phones and allow it to function will allow us as a community to close these gaps.
Most people do not understand that themes and mods have to be developed independantly per SBF, per region. This means that Brazilian users would need someone to mod themes for them and those themes would not work for any other regions. The same would apply to all other SKUS.. therefore by Uniting our framework we open the possiblity to allow ALL users to enjoy the majority of the quality content which comes from US ATT users.
Hope that is clear.

As it stands you are 100% correct.
There is NO way this can change at the moment as we know the 0.37 SBF was technically ahead of stock ATT but as soon as 1.5.7 hit we were behind in features.
Now the Telstra SBF has come along to amend all these needed updates. HSUPA unlocked, faster SD performance/Performance in general and more importantly the compatibility of the base SBF with ATT framework and more importantly with Ken's work.
I have been discussing this with other Canadian themers, modders as well as with Ken himself. This is why he has come forward with this information to make this a good future for our community.
Soon I will break this process and make it a lot simpler so that people can simply, flash 1.4.2 and then move forward to Ken's unified framework in just 2 steps.

You dont have to do much else but follow the majority of stuff on here.

you contradict yourself so many times it's not even funny. to make it short, my opinion is to stick with stock firmware and no mods, just root until bell issues a patch and hoping we can grab the "customer sbf" we just obtained with 1.8.3 on at&t. anything else, you are at risk.

I have had the HTC Raider (the Korean name for the Vivid) for a while now. I have been waiting for the phone to pop up on here so I can try out some Roms.
Anyone have any idea if these roms would be compatible for the HTC Raider? I would HOPE so, but I imagine that it isn't that simple
I am already rooted by the way if that matters.
I am guessing here but I think the only difference will Probably be the radio's. If that is the case I would assume someone would be able to pull the radio from the Raider and make 2 different versions of the same rom just with different Radio's. Or have a way to flash the radio independent of the actual Rom.

any HTC rom i have worked on or flashed has never included a radio in the rom flash.
I'm assuming once we have an unlocked bootloader, root, recovery and such that the modding community will be pretty decent. I imagine custom roms would work between several carriers. As long as you don't flash the wrong radio I don't see why there'd be any issues. Similar to several versions/carriers of the Evo 3D

I'm assuming you're not referring to official RUU's. I'm pretty certain they tend to include radios. When dev's release custom roms they do not include radios...they tend to like to keep the individual aspects separate for customization
edit: just to be clear when I say RUU i'm not referring to an ruu that someone might have used to extract a stock rom or whatever i mean a real ruu_____.exe
No I was meaning the Radio's you can Flash from the bootloader on HTC Device's. The PC10IMG.zip type. Not sure what they need to be for this device but I assume it is the same type of thing.

You should be able to use the roms with a kernel update like I used to with my HTC dream using roms from the T-mobile. I think with the S-On that part can't be written onto anyways through the custom recovery. The dual-core chip is the same one as used in Korea, but they underclocked it to 1.2Ghz. However I noticed the major difference between the vivid/Raider(CDN) are the lte bands Korea is on 850 while we are using a mixture with mostly 700.

That's the only real hardware difference, I think. Korea uses 850MHz LTE, while Bell uses 700/1700/2100 and Rogers/ATT uses AWS/700.

Im looking to re-sbf my phone.. change the rom etc.basically take everything on it and make it different than it is now...cuz its buggy. anyway
my question is im looking for sbf's for droid 3 but alot of stuff i find is for droid x and stuff i was wondering if it matters like if it has to be for Droid 3 or Droid 2 or Droid x for it to work on Droid 3/Droid 2/ or Droid X. also do certain ROMS require certain SBF's?
Thanks!!
The DROID 3 requires a droid 3 sbf, as do all phones require sbfs for their particular model. And for the second part, there are different roms that require different base systems. They usually tell which they work with. Additionally, some of the newer versions prevent using an sbf to return to previous versions.
Just as a side note, sbf isn't actually used anymore, the files are now fxz files, but the terms sbf is still commonly used in reference to them. Both file types can be flashed in rsd lite.

It absolutely DOES matter, each phone is totally different when it comes to SBF files. DO NOT even try one not made for the Droid 3. And make sure it is the correct SBF for the right model of Droid 3 (XT860, XT862... etc).
You NEED to know the version and model you have. Settings>About Phone.
If you have the XT862 (verizon wireless model and are running 5.5.959 or 5.6.890) you will need to look here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-droid-3-fastboot-files-55959-and-56890/

Personally, I've found Maverick and Haters gonna Hate ROMs to be the best. They, along with others can be found here http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-3-roms/
Is it possible to switch between CDMA custom ROMs (and use Verizon) and GSM custom ROMs (and use AT&T/T-Mobile)? I'm assuming that the answer is yes, since switching between CDMA and GSM is a software thing?
Yeah it's just a radio flash and a build.prop change. Some people have played with CDMA Workshop and gotten parts of CDMA on the 883 radio to work with Verizon but they haven't been to specific on the steps. The only true way I know how is to switch between 883 radio/build.prop and 862 radio/build.prop.
are all roms safe for use after flashing the xt883 radio for gsm use?
Yeah you just gotta replace the build.prop. Most of the ROMs I've made an 883 prop for but just use Root Browser Lite and start reading through them and study the differences and you can quickly learn to edit your own.
