I wonder if Droid 3 have any way to add USB Host capabilities on it? To owner, do you experience any problem/complaint of this phone so far? I'm thinking to purchased one Droid 3.
Btw, when Ice Cream Sandwich released, any word from Motorola to give Droid 3 and update too? I wonder if ICS will give USB Host capabilities.
Thanks
USB Host
I have been working with the hardware end of this with no luck. I have tried wireing a micro usb hub, both powered and non powered. NO LUCK.
A bump on usb host support would be nice.

ICS is supposed to have USB hosting although Motorola has not announnced the D3 as being on the list of phone getting the update in the near future. I wouldn't worry about waiting for Motorola though, it seems that we have devs already booting it up on the D3. Even if you prefer it with motoblur, after an update is released for the Bionic, it will likely be ported to the D3 within days.

Hashcode posted a bootable port of ICS for the D3 on 11/29. While it lacks function of just about everything you would want in a smartphone, it does mean that he his already well on his way to getting a functional version of CM9 (ICS on steroids) ready for our phones. If I had to guess, I would say that we should see a beta version available before the end of the year.
On the other hand, if you want to wait for an official Motorola release of ICS, then I wouldn't plan on seeing that until late Feb. at the earliest.

Does this clearly indicate that Samsung have agreed to Earth months? Or is this more Mercury months, as i suspect that allows Samsung to already have dropped support for the Galaxy Tab as of a few months ago which seems to be the case.
Haha...well two australian carriers tweeted less than 1 earth month ago that they have received and are currently testing gingerbread for the galaxy s and galaxy tab.

Beings that the bionic and almost every other phone has built in soft keys including the vigor which will be out soon, does anyone think any current phones will be getting an ICS update. ICS has the softkeys built into the screen like honeycomb. It would look a little funny with 2 sets of menu keys. Just seeing if anyone had any input on this issue
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I fully expect the Bionic to get ICS. In fact I'd be willing to bet it's one of the first non-nexus phones to recieve it. Being under the google umbrella is a good thing, which Motorola now is. As far as the buttons go, that's a software modification and I don't expect that to be much of a road block. Button remapping takes place all the time in custom kernels so the guys at Moto and or Google should be able to sort that out simple enough.
I was hoping so. It just seems one of the main ics features is no menu keys. I was just hoping it wouldn't have both
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
ICS is being hailed as bringing tablets and phones together, so something as simple as disabling some on-screen menu buttons doesn't sound like something they would overlook.
Even if we ended up with some ****ed up version of ICS that made our phones have two rows of menu buttons, it wouldn't take longer than a day for the hackers here on XDA to figure out how to hide them.
Seems to me that our softkeys would work just fine w/ ICS... all the screengrabs I see have home, back, and multitasking buttons. Remap the menu key to be for multitasking, and you're set, with a bonus search key that duplicates whatever search function is integrated w/ ICS elsewhere.

I think it kinda sucks that Samsung and Google are waiting on officially releasing ICS due to the passing of steve jobs. Yeah it can be respectful but that didnt stop apple from making money.
I doubt the Google acquisition will affect products in the pre-merger pipeline for a year. Short of layoffs, I've never seen a change in engineers assigned priorities right off the bat.

I'm sure they have the ability to use the four keys just like 2.3.7 and below. I believe that they also said that it was the manufacturers choice when building phones and tablets which method they use back when they were first touring honeycomb on the XOOM. I'm sure that they won't give us two sets of keys and take up screen realestate.

Hi thereisone. I also just switched over from the charge last week. I've been very happy with the bionic. I had the static problem with my radio, but I was also disappointed with the battery life, slow GPS, and general slow response on the charge. All these were improved on the bionic. Of course the screen isn't as nice, but I can live with it. Only real complaint is that the camera sucks.
Anyway, I've been writing up a guide for how to root and get to the latest and greatest. It can be hard to figure it all out because of out-of-date posts. Like others have told you already, we can only go so far right now, but if you just need a phone that functions without all the bloat you'll be alright. I'll have it up by tomorrow.

The other day I went to the verizon store and played with the Galaxy Nexus. I've been thinking about retiring the Bionic for the Nexus, bad thing is the Bionic was a birthday present from my family and I feel bad for ridding it. Anyways, to my surprise, it felt like the Nexus was running as fast and smooth as my Bionic was. I was kind of shocked honestly. So the only thing the Galaxy has going for it: unlocked bootloader, ICS, its a Nexus Device.
anyways hope that makes you feel a little better about having the Bionic.
Before there were any roms for the Bionic, I rooted it (there are guides on how to in the dev section) then found some free apps from the market that remove bloat.
If you are comfortable installing roms, there are instructions on doing so in the dev section but read them carefully and do not skip steps. I recommend eclipse 2.1. It's fast, it looks nice, and it has a much better data connection thanks to the 901 radio. It's a bit tricky to flash for some, but because you are on stock, you will have less of a problem.
Hope it helps!
Happy Droiding!
As stated above, I would make sure you have the 901 System Version. You can check that on the Settings->About Phone menu. It will read 5.9.901.XT875 ... The next thing would be to root it and then install a Custom ROM which is compatible with this version. AFAIK, you have to buy a MySQL app to modify one of the system settings to allow you to do the WiFi tether. You have to fake out the installed Verizon app. Sorry if you already know all of this but when you install the Custom ROM they generally recommend you clear all of the stored data so you will have to set up all of account usernames and passwords again for the apps that are in /system.
I rooted my phone before I did anything. I just took it home, plugged it into the computer and started the scripts I needed.
Good Luck.
It came with 893. Should I use forever root update then flash eclipse?

I've had my Bionic for a few months, and have been recently resisting the .901 update because I didn't want to lose root. All that aside, followed this guide and it worked great!
So I recently shattered the screen on my Rezound
Thinking of getting a Bionic since Big Red has them for free. What do you guys think of the Bionic? Is development going strong? And do ICS ROMs exist? Are they stable enough to be a daily driver? Any input is welcomed

If your warranty allows it, get another Rezound.
Development is not that active. Eclipse is the only active Gingerbread-base ROM available. Team Gummy & Hive Dev are doing ICS ROMs but since the locked bootloader of the Bionic prevents kernel changes, ICS is not 100% functional.
Well I have insurance on my Rezound but I don't have the $99 for the insurance claim and I have an upgrade on my plan now. Anything is better than the DX I'm using right now haha

I agree. I have the Bionic and my wife has the Rezound. I feel like I got the short end of the stick here.
You're better off to stay with the X and save up the insurance deductible, IMHO.
That being said, the Bionic ICS ROMs are nice, but they all have the silly camera issues. Those might not be resolved until an official Moto ICS is released. You can take pictures using the cameras, but no video, and no barcode scanners, etc.
Eclipse is a nice Gingerbread ROM. It's what I'm running now.
What if I could have both? Haha the upgrade is my moms, so it won't add time to my line. And later I can send the Rezound in to the insurance and get it fixed. Then I will have both. I don't see the downside in trading this DX for a Bionic for free. Because I cannot stand this phone after having my Rezound.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Bionic. I got mine on release day last September and haven't had any major problems in all that time. I'm rooted and stock, with about 45 bloatware apps frozen. Each time there's an update I just unfreeze, update and refreeze with TiBu. Works great. If you don't want to spend the money for another Rezound I say go for it.
Unfortunately this is no longer an option for me. My girlfriend decided it would be a good idea to dump gatorade on her uninsured Rhyme. So now the upgrade will be going to her. Looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet and make an insurance claim

This. It's been stated that most any device with 512MB RAM will NOT officially get ICS/JB (with 1 or 2 exceptions I believe/non-moto devices). I think at the very least phone companies want devices with 768MB RAM to upgrade to ICS.

I highly doubt it, the reason they are doing the $100 upgrade offer is because as they said not all 2011 devices are capable of running JB, or at least a bloatware filled version of it. The $100 upgrade offer is for the Droid 3 and Droid X2. If they get all of their other devices upgraded to JB by the end of the year then I will have some new found respect for them as its only just been recently that Google has made some changes at Motorola.
I wish you wouldn't use such a provocative headline as if you know this is a certainty.
