Ive been running MONSTERrom 1.1 since it came out. Looks very nice and runs very fast. 1.1i is the latest and greatest at the moment, but he releases new versions all the time (which is absolutely ok with me)

+1 This is exactly my view as well.

ditto ditto. really like this rom. best part is not only how well the dark theme is done, but the fact that you don't feel like your running a rom. it is solid, fast and stable.

Agreeing with everyone else on Monster Rom. Awesome rom to fulfill my needs until we get some CM7 and MIUI.

Monster Rom 1.1i i would never run that junk...
but Monster Rom 1.1j on the other hand works for me.

lol i thought it would be longer before we saw one of these threads.

Best rom, for now, is the XT883 one.

Not all themes seem to be compatible with it. So, I'd have to disagree if it limits customizing.

Who cares about themes, first we need a functional rom, then we can start to thing to customization.
And the XT883 rom is way more functional, although affected by the lack of a functional bootstrap loader.

Considering most people seem to be adding themes? Plenty of people care about themes. Not to mention I haven't seen any problems with SD or MR yet. I will say your ROM is very good if you're looking to keep the Rom stock, and it is very sleek. Plus I seem to have more Ram available on MR versus the other two.
But most people that flash Rom's, also want it to be customizable.. that's why ROMs like Cyanogen and MIUI are so popular, even though they're not always completely stable.
I say it comes down to personal preference in this case.

Ok, so there is only two custom rom availabe atm for Droid 3?
Monster Rom v1.1j
Details changes is here:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-3-roms/176253-monster-rom-v1-1-a.html
This Custom Rom is more on theme added FM Radio function etc.
Another Custom Rom is XT883. Can't find any info on this rom. Don't now the changes. Any link?

Looks good. What is the latest Android Base of Custom Rom for Droid 3? Is it only based on 2.3.5. Is there any higher to 2.3.7?

Steel Droid is a great choice if you like Blur. It was just as fast as Monster and equally debloated.
The only reason I did not stick with Steel was the font. It was driving my eyes crazy. I have since jumped to Monster and so far I am very happy.

+1 the rom is really functional with no default, no bug.....

Themes are a big deal, they give the visual illusion of an upgrade and on a fast rom it just feels good.
Voting for Monster but will probably move to narcotICS.

Let's say Ice Cream Sandwich out, do you think D3 will have USB Host capabilities? I think I read it somewhere that Motorola Droid had USB OTG hardware inside.

Jumped to sense 2.2, better performance than CM 6 rc1

So a coupla days back i decided to try sense 2.2 on my nexus as a joke. just to see how it was. i flashed kingxklicks alpha 3 and i was amazed at how well it performed. even better than cm 6. everything was smoother. sense was beautiful. but it had glitch problems. yesterday i jumped to evils dj droid port. less glitches. faster. and even smoother. its great. the only problems ive had have been with the graphical glitches in some areas. but i dont mind much as the web browser, camera and every other sense feature is worth it. compared to stock cm 6 web browser, the sense froyo one performs just as fast with much better implementation of flash 10.1, meaning when you scroll up and down a page with full flash the flash content follows the html content as it should, it doesnt lag behind. and the scrolling is much smoother. galaxy s live wallpapers even perform better. i dont understand why more effort isnt being put into porting over a perfect version of sense 2.2 from the desire. have you guys tried it? any thoughts?
Sense roms are built by the company who made the phone and has a team of paid engineers working around the clock.
CM roms are built from scratch by a group of developers on their own time.
You're surprised a ported sense rom is more refined than an unfinished rom by a group of hobbyist?
That's right... but I also see his point... I think the right comparison should be between sense and vanilla UI. No doubt CM ROM is awesome, and I believe the browser is even better than stock Vanilla Froyo, yet sense browser still seems better.
I dont think he intended to put CM down, it is a valid question though. It also made me wonder why, not a lot of devs are working on porting the desire 2.2 rom. However, I am also aware that since the nexus didn't run sense to start with, it might be tricky and a lot harder to do.

lol dont get me wrong. im a hardcore cyanogen fan and have been using his roms constantly since i got my nexus. i love and appreciate his work and effort. but that was just my take on sense compared to cyanogens rc. i am not surprised that it is more refined than a release candidate by a group of hobbyists as much as i am surprised that devs dont take advantage of such a refined rom to perfect it so users have a solid rom that performs the way it should. i was satisfied with rc 1 until a friend of mine got a vibrant and i realized how much less responsive and less polished my rom was from his. i am patiently waiting for a final release of CM 6 to see how that performs compared to sense roms and even the vibrant.
CM is more of a hacker friendly customizing machine. This is awesome for all us who love to tinker. Sense is for people who like a nice clean refined complete theme without sacrificing performance. I personally switch between the 2 all the time...cant make up my mind!!
This is why I love my Nexus...choices.
PS Have you tried Pauls 2.2 port...no graphical glitches, awesome job so far.
Our best bet is to wait for Paul's 2.2 desire. It should be coming up soon. I am well content with the vanilla ROMs available right now. But the option to switch between the two would be sweet

It's the basic Mac vs PC/Linux thing. You want it to look pretty, or do you want to be able to make it do whatever you want?
This isn't even worth a debate, lets all celebrate the fact we've invested in a platform that allows us these opportunities to say the least. If you can't decide, install both, make nandroid backups of both and alternate at will.

Alpha3 was a bit too blotchy for my tastes. I do agree that its browser is awesome though. Honestly, after rc1 and millions of nightlies; I'm not looking forward to cm 6.0 final. I appreciate the cm teams full on efforts. They rock! I just can't stand anything other then the stock launcher. I wonder if I'm the only one that feels this way about adw and launcher pro. Their features are nice but what good is it if its gonna freeze, crash or become unresponsive. Thoughts?

im with you on that one. the launcher was one of the main reasons i left cyanogen. but i flashed my stock launcher2.apk and it wasnt bad. cm 6 is choppy itself for now.
try evils rom. its not bad.
Y'all should try Enoms ROM too. I personally like LP better than ADW and never had FC on it. But enoms stock launcher is great too.
Nah. I'm enjoying stock 2.2. Haven't had one single issue since I flashed it. Very reliable. I hope cm6 gets done up with a stock launcher.
I wonder what cyanogen.. or paul feel about this.. Do you think android developers react to user made modifications? of course. This is why i love my nexus one. I pray google makes a adp3. I love options and im grateful for all the developers doing what they can. DONATE!
After reading this... I may try out Paul's R23, I love CM6, but I wouldn't mind trying out a Sense ROM for a day or so...
Can you choose between LP and ADW when you install CM6?
I'm using Paul's R23 after switching from Enom's. Its definitely smooth and beautiful but really isn't on the same level as Enom's or CM6 (which I used to have). It still has alot of isssues (recording, bt, a2sd), and maybe I was spoiled by the OC'd, UV'd kernels but it just feels slow to me. And can't even compare to the benchmarks I was hiting before in Quadrant.
Its still new though and hopefully progress will be made in these areas.
It would be great to see more than just a couple of devs working on this port.
Just my 0.02.

[Q] Best Rom?

Hey guys, I was just looking for your opinion on the best, and most stable rom for the incredible s, currently I'm running miui 1.9.9 and am pretty pleased with it, Im just wondering what else is out there, I tried htc bliss beta 2 sense 3.5 because i missed sense but it had camera issues so Im wondering what your opinion is and what youve tried
android revolution hd is the best hands down imo
"Best rom" is very subjective, as I'm sure a few other people will point out. I for one am using CyanogenMod and can say that I am very happy with it and don't plan to change any time soon. If you want to find more roms you can go take a look at the Development section of the Incredible S forums, there you will find threads concerning roms that you can try out for your device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1028
Hope you'll find something that suites you,
Cheers!
I agree with scoob on this one rev HD deff is one of the most stable ROMs out there. Cyanogen is very stable as well however I can't get over not having sense. I'd choose from those two both awesome HD is super fast while cyanogen is slightly slower yet is highly customizable and does not include sense.
well, as pointed out , the choice is very personal.
it depends on your preferences as there are some differences in most of the major roms.
so far i've tried ARHD, CM7, MIUI & Virtuous unity.
CM7 is quite good if you are interested in having a non-sense rom but the functionality, stability is top notch. CM7 has set a standard not just for stand alone developers but for corporate production as well.
ARHD is a very popular rom and most people using it will swear by it.
it is sense based, and it will feel like a charged up stock rom.
very professional as well.
MIUI is what i used the longest & i must admit it is a brilliant rom in the fact that it stands out in appearance & customization.
every app and every part of the system is beautified and it feels like a totally different phone. if you are looking to have a 'different' yet amazing phone, MIUI is the way to go.
but the major drawback with MIUI is that it is not officially supported for the INCs and thus there are some minimal bugs which can get a bit annoying.
And of course it has no app drawer, works like the iphone.
this can be handled by the wonderful app created by a member here called alt drawer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299
i feel this is a must for MIUI.
finally, using VU at the moment and i feel it is a perfect blend of sense components and that little something extra.
looks, feels and works amazingly well, minimal bugs and almost feels like the perfect rom again...
i did however run into a few loop boots recently, but i think that can be worked on.
that's my personal opinion on all the roms...
and i think it would be a good opportunity to give a heartfelt 'thank you' for all the developers here working so damn hard on providing world class roms for us.
Thank you guys, we all do silently thank and appreciate all your efforts!

Inc S is officially supported at miui.us. The two things I miss with MIUI is SRS and handsfree mic. Other than that, its the best lightweight rom available for Inc S atm.
MIUI with Tiamat Kernel works very well.
If you like Sense 2.1 or 3.0 i prefer ARHD.
If you don't like Sense i would go for CyanogenMod 7 Nightly #68.
But that's just what i think ;-)

i've been a user of ARHD, it's the most popular if i may say and developer is very responsive. i haven't gotten to try the other ROMs on an extended time but i'm pretty sold to the ARHD
I'm using CyanogenMod 7 and love it - very fast, good battery (after clearing battery data), and lightweight.
However it is the first ROM I've flashed and while I'm very happy with it, I'll still try others just to see what there is. But if you haven't tried it, give it a shot -you can easily download straight from the ROM manager app
i like revolution hd,but its sense 2.1
Im using arhd and it improves the batt life too. My first rom i flashed on my incredible s.
I'm using virtuos rom v2.37 by far the best rom with sense 3.0!! I've tried them all but the virtuos rom runs very smooth and no fc's.

Best ROM For Battery Life - Personal Experience?

Hey guys. I might be Rooting and flashing soon, and I'm looking for which ROM I should go for.
I was looking for one with good battery life (I use my phone for Music, Game's Etc.) and hopefully a ROM that has better battery life then stock.
I was also looking for one that had Sense 3.0.
Any chance such ROM exists? Any one tried a few Sense 3.0 Rom's and has had good battery life from one?
Thanks

Virtuous unity 2.35 does go good.... The sense 3.0 is just amaZIng! IF U WANT I'LL POST THE LINK HERE...
arhd is good too but then its over clocked to 1.5Ghz by default, so alot has complained for it doesn't boot up, stays in the HTC screen.
This ROM too gives u amazing performance but its mostly the users taste here...
And not to forget, Coredroid ROM... Man this ROM OS simply fantastic, I've used it before just because of the backlight issues removed it, the backlighta aka the 4 menu butons, doesn't work sadly.... But, there's gonna be an update soon, so yeaaaaaa! It's gonnna have sense 3 with the backlights fixed too...
Hope this helps....

The great thing about rooting and flashing is that you can create a back up and from there flash everything possible until you find what your looking for. One thing to remember is that you cannot kill your phone flashing new roms as they do not change your BIOS.
Thanks for all your replies guys - does anyone have a link to ARHD?
Sounds quite good
EDIT: ARHD Isn't full Sense 3.0, might leave that one... is Virtuous Unity a good one to go with then? (No bugs, good battery etc.)

Thanks Nabeeltanz for quoting my post
well, to add to the above post, i have personally experienced MIUI to have the longest battery life among all the ROMS.
My usage is quite heavy, 3g on all day, regular surfing with streaming of music for most part, a little gaming here and there, emailing and of course the messaging and calls. most of the ROMS i've used lasted me a full day.. MIUI did a little more.. consistently it would last for close to 2 days. it would definitely need recharging by the end of the second day..
but compared to the stock rom, all the custom roms do provide good enough battery life.

Just so say, I'm using Virtuous Unity and it's been brilliant so far.
To all those guys that use CM7 Nightlies (Test Release) with timat 1.1.4 , just want to clarify with you guys that do you guys get crashes on it?
I downloaded the latest test release last night and flashed it after I flashed my ROM and I've got to say that I keep get crashes (com.android.phone process has ended) . So what is the ROM that I should flash? Is it the stable version or the test version.
and can I flash the kernel (timat 1.1.4) on my Virtuous Unity 2.3.9? So what is that is power saving? The kernel or the ROM or both together? (im confused)

It will be great if you can help me by posting the exact link for the ROM you use and the kernel you used and even the recovery you used to wipe your entire ROM before flashing the new one ..
I'm still using VU 2.3.9 and I just realized that my battery life sux the previous time because I didnt flash the kernel of VU 2.3.9 (LOL) . I just flashed it and I'm currently letting it run to see how well is the battery.
as smartphone users, most of our main concern is the battery usage.. I would very much like to use CyanogenMod 7 Nightlies but just that I have second thoughts about it because it didnt have the "Quick Settings" or HTC keyboard that I was using on my VU . and I can't find and nice framework which is suitable..
so i guess if you could help me on this issue. I'll really appreciate it .

Another question.

I was wondering if there is a way to determine what kernel is on the phone? Like a way to check it...? I know I can check the kernel version...would that be how to determine? I must sound dumb...wow...lol.
Your phone info screen should show it.
I thought so. I had an HTC 8925 before this, so the Android world is all new to me. I know basic things and have already successfully flashed two phones with custom ROMs as well as flashed my own captivate back to stock. My brother also gave me his old Motorola Droid and I use it as a way of learning as well. I know the hardware on both is different but it's still a good way of learning I feel. I even helped a friend root and flash Cyanogen onto his HTC Inspire. He recently went back to stock without the bloatware...which reminds me. Does a ROM of the stock without bloatware exist for the Captivate? I've searched but haven't had much luck...
Also, forgot to mention I had Myn's warm donut on that HTC. It ran well enough but the battery issues were never worked out for me.

Pinnacle is a great ROM. Its pretty close to stock, really smooth, really good battery life, and not a lot of flashy stuff, just really reliable. No bloatware at all... except it isn't being developed on anymore. There's one called Illumination (not the exact name but its close enough you'll find it) and it looks good and is being developed still. Its actually based off of Pinnacle too. I don't have any personal experience with it though.

You mean Illuminance?
...it having all those updates is mildly confusing too...

That's the one. I'll probably flash it pretty soon.

You will like it if you are coming from Pinnacle, as they are really close...

No problem, I'm glad it's working well for you. I have so much stuff installed on this ROM I'm probably not flashing anything till something truly official drops (if ever).

Fastest and most stable rom?

Been looking around and asking around a lot and most people say that and odexed ota rom (with oc) is fastest. What do you think?
I use kgp nexroid 6.1 oc 1190mhz and that's fast as hell, imho.

Anybody not on the Latest CM7 Kang is simply insane imo. You hear people with various devices, reporting different levels of success with Cyanogenmod ROMS. That may be true, there may be devices that didn't 'take' so well with that particular Custom ROM!
If there's ever been a device that does enjoy a CM ROM, it's the Nexus One. It's a marriage made in heaven! From day one of owning this phone i had nothing but problems on 'Stock' ROMS. Coming from a Windows Mobile phone, it made my first impressions of Android less than stellar, i can tell you!
I jumped aboard the Cyanogen train the second the CM7 Nightlies began. I've flashed almost every single Nightly since then, without having to once wipe 'Data', without any major issues.. and after at least a hundred Nightlies flashed since then my N1 is as good as anyone could hope it would be!
You couldn't pay me to part with my N1 for anything else on the market right now. You couldn't force me, for love nor money, to use a Galaxy Nexus, or any ICS build right now!
As long as the hardware holds up, i'll be using this phone for years to come. With any luck they'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers!
Yeah, but isn't ch33kybutts OxygeN1mod a bit more stable and faster, being essentially the same as CM7? I know its AOSP, but a lot of CM7 things are integrated in that ROM. You should consider trying that out.

I didn't even want this phone that much. I simply bought it as I couldn't afford anything better. This does the job well, though I would not say no to a newer and better device.
The other day, I flashed MIUI, and I have made a decision. I will never return to Cyanogenmod 7 again, ever. I simply love the fastness and smoothness of the latest MIUI. Though, I will easily give MIUI up when there's a good-for-everyday-use CM9/ICS ROM out there.
ICS is highly overrated. Had a chance to play with it today, and besides HW acceleration which can't be a bad thing, all the visual changes were as much to my dislike as Gingerbread was. Never got used to those (having Sense 3 on my MT4G, don't need to).
In any case, there's some assumption that stock ROM runs faster, because it's odexed (which means, that the odex files are already there and don't need to be re-created). This is only true for the first run, for the rest it doesn't matter - it only saves space, not having to have all the odexed files on /data.

Your point being?
I won't go to a stock rom as I find custom roms the way to go. I run MIUI and I love it very much. A beautiful and fast rom (I use the fresh on fridays MIUI on miui.us and not that other one)

You started the thread by stating that to your understanding, odexed ROMs are faster. I saw that you moved to custom ROMs, and wanted to reassure you that they're just as fast, and non-odexed doesn't mean slower.

This is the other point I was trying to make, ICS might not be worth enough to give up MIUI for it.

I don't even know what difference odexed and not does as I don't even know the meaning of the word. Secondly, my phone was sent to me pre-flashed with CM7.1.0 stable so I have never used stock software with this phone

I think you're right. I've seen videos of what ICS looks like and to me it looks like it's way overhyped. I really like MIUI and what it looks and feels like and to me it's fast and does what I want and gets me through a day's use with the current overclock.
I just want a rom that I can live with, that's fast and smooth. To this date, I haven't found a rom to do just that except MIUI.
