[Q] Alarm Clock - "Bedside Mode" - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running CM 7.1 stable.
How do you launch the phone into "bedside mode" - displays the time in blue (default)?
I've been playing around, and I'm guessing 1) launch the Clock app, 2) it must be dark, 3) let phone timeout?
I tried holding my thumb over the light sensor and that does not seem to work. Could it possibly also depend on the time of day?
I've found myself laying in bed waiting for the phone to enter "bedside mode" and it is a bit frustrating

Tap anywhere on the screen (thats not the time).

Display stays on after midnight wake-up

Hi,
it's hard to believe no one asked this before but I could not found anything about this..
My Diamond (as probably every wm phone) wakes up at midnight.. but because I'm loading the battery over night it does not switch off the display completely but stays dimmed until i switch it off manally.. because it lays right next to my bed I really hate it doing that.
So is there a possibility to switch the display completly off during loading? I have the windows configuration the way that it should switch off the display after 1min in ac-mode.
Thanks in advance,
Michael

I'm having the exact same issue with my HTC FUZE.Wakes up, then stays in a dimmed mode until I put it back to sleep. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

The phone settings are set for backlight off after 1 minute (on external power). Once the phone wakes up, it stays on (in a dim mode) until I physically press the power button to put it back in the standby mode.
Why does it wake up at midnight?
Is it because you have installed a program that restarts it automatically?
i've noticed my diamond wakes up at midnight, feels like it doesn't go off, but does after a few minutes, all the buttons light up as well as if i a txt is about to come on, but the screen come on, i've only noticed it as i've been up late recently and i have the diamond on front of me on hy desk, my old orbit phone (which i keep meaning to sell) doesn't do it, so i can't see it being a wm bug
Weird.. My Diamond doesnt wake up at midnight

Do you (or in the past) have G-Alarm installed. This fixes a windows alarm clock bug. It switches on at midnight to do some sort of maintenance. I have found my phone no longer stays on as you describe, but I always run the latest version of g-alarm
BTW - get your orbit on ebay. I did a buy it now auction and got £150 for my Orbit a few months ago
No More Issues
I have since flashed my ROM to the NATF 4.5 and I have no more issues with the phone coming on at midnight.
Mine used to do that too, the screen would come on and the clock also switches back to the big clock which I hate. After installing galarm it went away but the clock still switches to the big clock and I have to switch it back every morning.
My Topaz also wakes up at midnight and it feels like it won´t shut off! How long should this session last to reorganize all the things? G-Alarm is installed and since then I had this issue.
I could deactivate the midnight wakeup, but I don´t think this is recommend!? Is it?

Can't stop my N1 from dimming the screen after ~20 seconds when plugged in

Hi all,
I've had a search around but couldn't find this particular issue discussed.
I have a N1 running CM7. When the phone is plugged in (either on my desk, or in the car) the screen will auto dim to a very low level after approx. 20 seconds after last touch.
This happens if the brightness is set to auto or a manual level. I've gone through all the settings I can find but couldn't find anything regarding this. I have got developer > stay awake enabled, which I guess stops the screen from actually sleeping, but it still goes dim.
The CM7 auto dim settings are disabled.
Any advice folks? I want the screen to not auto-dim after 20 seconds. Out of interest, the 'Car Widget Pro' widget seems to be able to force the brightness if you choose something other than 'auto' in the widget settings. So perhaps I am missing something somewhere else?
It's a real PITA when trying to navigate in the car with google maps as whenever I touch the screen to get the brightness back it disables gps tracking and I have to re-hit the icon, which is distracting whilst driving..
Here's hoping..
Hey, I'm only posting because I had a very similar issue. What I did was go into display settings (while connected via USB) and changed the timeout to one minute (or whatever you want). For me, when I went to change the timeout, no item was selected by default. This happened to me after I installed WidgetLocker for some reason. I doubt I will help but I had a very similar issue...

[Q] Screen goes black during call, CM10.1 dialer

Hiya folks. Running CM10.1 stable on my targa (aka Droid Bionic). It was beautiful except for lack of nav dock support, a problematic Google Now (different problem, with workaround), and this particular problem, which I hope someone know what I am talking about...
When a call comes in and I answer by the slider, the screen goes black, whether or not I held the phone up to my head.
I cannot turn the screen back on. None of the buttons seem to do anything, though backlight for the 4 hard buttons does turn on indicating that some command was received by the touchscreen. Not even the power button will bring the screen back during the call.
If the other party hangs up, the phone goes back to normal.
With screen off, I can't hang up.
I can hang up if my Bluetooth headset was connected and I hang up with that.
I've searched all over and this issue seem to be a pretty popular issue last December across all CM 10 builds. However, I don't know if this was ever resolved for this build.
I can't find an option in the ROM to just flat "turn off face proximity detection" either. Or in any way to "tweak" it.
CPU-Z says my proximity sensor is working, so I guess it's just not calibrated properly for the dialer?
Can we get a "special hidden tweaker" much like the light sensor tweak for the auto-brightness levels?
Figured it out. It wasn't CM. It was Screebl and the stupid orientation sensor, and how the Launcher is fixed to portrait mode.
I think I had my phone laid down and it's at a diagonal so it's in landscape mode, and the phone's fine with that when it's just showing contacts. Screebl kicks in and determines that landscape, phone orientation says stay on, so screen stayed on. It was set to turn off the screen IMMEDIATELY when the orientation goes out of "viewing range". (Saving batteries, ya know).
When the call was answered, Screebl should have turned itself off (i.e. ignore input while call is in progress). But it didn't. The "answer the phone" screen flipped the display back to portrait mode. The phone, still laid flat, in "landscape", is now "out of viewing range", and Screebl turned off the screen.
Strange interaction among the various apps, yes.
I'm still trying to figure out how to make my Bionic, with extended battery last the whole day. Juicedefender Ultimate somehow just keeps turning the screen back on every X seconds (taking root control for SOMETHING) and Wakelock detector says the phone is not going into enough deep sleep (kinda like me, hahaha)

Dark mode (for theaters, etc.)

Last night I was watching a movie with a friend and afterwards she complained that my watch kept turning on and was distracting. Good point. You can make the watch silent with a fairly quick toggle, but you can't disable its display when a bright light would be inappropriate very easily without playing with one or two settings (i.e. not accessible from the quick settings display).
There is already a daylight setting, accessible from the power screen, but it would be nice if it offered several levels:
- Daylight for visibility in bright light
- Normal
- Dark - does not turn on automatically (must use physical button) and dimmest display when activated (Edit: no automatic display on notifications either)
- (and maybe also Dim for evening, dim light, but still has auto-on)
Workaround - long sleeves and/or removing the watch in dark settings. Even with sleeves, if you are in a situation where emitting light would be inappropriate (i.e. stage worker, waiter in a subdued lighting restaurant) it would be nice to be able to temporarily and independently disable the auto-on gesture/feature.
Another workaround - manually adjust the display intensity from the quick settings menu (you can also manually enable daylight mode this way as well), but this doesn't prevent the watch from turning on automatically and it doesn't allow quick switching between 2 or 3 common settings. Disabling the wake gesture involves fumbling with the phone.
While I'm at it - an ambient light sensor for auto-brightness like on most phones would have been nice...
I'm going to say that any back lit device is going to be bright in the dark, no matter how dim the display is. I don't really see any way other than to turn the watch off.
^^I do have to admit though. If it is dark I would rather have my phone fully dim than on auto brightness

You can disable the wake up gesture in settings on the watch. Simply create a shortcut if your rooted on your launcher screen, its a easy fix.

Most back lit watches don't turn the back light on automatically. The few that I've had that had a way to turn the back light on without using a button required a significantly more deliberate gesture than simply changing the angle of your hand. The gear also (normally) turns on when you get a notification which has nothing to do with any user-initiated action (I forgot to list "no display on notification" as a component of the feature in my OP).
The dimmest setting is dim enough for cases where you would need to turn it on, and if you are deliberately turning it on to check the time, then you can choose an angle and cradle it in your hand to avoid disturbing others. The key ingredient is that you are aware of the light in that case as opposed to the watch quietly flashing of its own accord.

I'm not rooted and there is no setting on the watch that can disable this, I would have to fumble with the phone and the gear manager to turn it off (and back on)...

That must be new on the upcoming fw that isn't released in the US yet - no Motion category in my Settings. That will be nice to have when it arrives, but I would still think that adding a 3rd state for dark mode to the existing quick setting toggle for the brightness would be a nice addition even if there is a setting for this on the watch.
It is very similar to the fact that "sound, vibrate, silent" modes are all accessible via the same quick toggle on phones - sure you can achieve everything that those sound settings provide through other means, but given the number of times when you want to switch sound modes they typically have a very accessible toggle - as I think they should do with light settings on the Gear...

Also, that setting does not disable the display coming on when you get a notification. You can modify your notifications as well, but that gets a bit complicated compared to just having one easily accessible toggle that tells the watch that you want more control over when the display turns on in a particular situation...

I am in the US and can disable wake-up gesture and turn off notifications from Gear Manager. So yesterday before going to the movies myself I knew it would be too bright even at the lowest setting. So while waiting to get popcorn, I switched both off and enjoyed the movie. Two settings in one app very quick. After the movie before getting up I turned them back on.
Edit: Of course if you don't have Gear Manager this might not be possible.

I do have Gear Manager.
My point is not "this can't be done" or "this is so hard" as it is - there is already an easy to access convenience setting for dealing with the watch's brightness and it is right next to the watch's easily accessible toggle for various levels of sound abatement. It seems like a natural extension to have those same display-related settings choices from Gear Manager be simultaneously and trivially activated from the same convenience menu that you would use to put the watch in vibrate or silent mode. A one-stop shop for both sound and light abatement (or enhancement as is the case for the current daylight setting).
With respect to "long press on power, tap on [Display] once or twice", these alternate methods are not so convenient...
If there was a way to get screen filter on the gear you could make the screen extremely dark. I use it on my phone in the theater.

Latest update nuked my watch ???

I have an LG G Watch R.
immediately after this update about 1.5 weeks ago that I installed my watch no longer functions as it functioned before.
I no longer get call notifications on the watch. previously when a call came in the watch would start vibrating the caller image would appear and I could answer or ignore from the watch.
this no longer occurs (HUGE functionality loss for me)
also "always on" no longer works. it always turns off VERY rapidly after a few short seconds and you can only turn it on again by pressing the button. no "ambient" mode any more.
and of course since ambient is off (I assume) twist to full on does not work anymore
touch will not wake it up twist will not wake it up ONLY pressing the button.
suggestions? these are simply massively functionality losses to me I flat out would not have bought it if it functioned this way when I got it. what's the point?
I am hoping this is something I can fix. yes I checked android wear no joy. I uncheck and recheck always on and the watch comes on for a second and then goes off again. still have to press the button to make it live again.
Cinema mode activated?

What is that? I do not see anything called cinema mode anywhere?
On active screen swipe down from the top and then wipe left. You will see Cinema mode and Sunlight boost.

That, or you can push the button twice really fast. Does the same thing, just quicker...
Thank you so much both of you that was exactly the problem watch is working normally now double tap and I noticed there was a tiny little icon in the middle of the screen look kind of like a little microphone icon the line through it very tiny but now I know what to look for if it happens again again thank you
