LG Esteem Gingerbread Source Released - LG Revolution

I've been checking the LG Open Source website periodically. Well, today they have something!
The source code for the LG Esteem Gingerbread release is out!
Go here: lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensource.jsp
... and search for "MS910." Be sure to select "Mobile Phones" from the drop down.
I believe this should help some of the developers on this forum...

I've got it downloaded. It is 225 Mb. Here's the filename/md5:
[[email protected]: ~]$ md5 ~/Downloads/MS910\(Esteem\)_Android_Gingerbread\ 2.3.4_MS910ZVB.zip
MD5 (/Users/achristianson/Downloads/MS910(Esteem)_Android_Gingerbread 2.3.4_MS910ZVB.zip) = dd01b63d4e6b574abfd6fd97bf9f361b
If for some reason anyone has trouble getting it from LG, I've got a backup copy.

Ya, they put it up a couple days ago. I got it downloaded, but haven't has a chance to dive into it. Its nice how they put it out for the newest update 1 week after release, but source for zv6 still hasn't been released for us!

This is the updated firmware that came out a few months ago. It is Android 2.2 but supposedly has an improved radio and some other improvements. So far it is unrootable. Rumor says Gingerbread will be out sometime in October then progress will continue on CyanogenMod 7 build that TheCubed is working on.
I upgraded to this, replied on the wrong thread but here are my findings..
I am in NE Ohio and my bars are mostly full and 4g doesn't switch to 3g at all in my house but only had this for an hour now.. speed test pings faster and first test at 10Mbps when usually lower at home. Will continue testing..
Going from airplane mode back to LTE seems quicker.. Less lag time when going in to mobile data that you have to wait for connectivity. I think I will stay with this for now. I also want the GB update (rumored this month) ASAP and don't want to wait for someone to post it, then I can try to root it myself. *Fingers Crossed*

A little good news... Semi official

While you can never completely trust what support people say...

They were pretty good about the news when it came to the froyo update for the ally so im hopeful itll be soon
So we've heard a couple of second-hand accounts of a release in mid-October and now the LG tech saying "soon." This is good, really. It's just so hard to wait, since this phone isn't fully functional without GB. Pretty much nothing can use the front-facing camera until this comes out

Just so everyone knows. The LG Esteem is the same exact phone as the LG Revolution. Just a different carrier and different OS. Myself and mtmichaelson have been trying to contact people who have the LG Esteem to get a system dump from them to make porting Gingerbread to our phones easier. Hopefully we should have something to tell you guys soon.
Woot! Keep it up guys!

I'm not even really worried about rooting it. I just want it on my phone! Lol!
Hey guys, just a quick update before going to bed for 2 hours of sleep, root has been accomplished! I was able to help get super user working properly after they were able to gain access. It has not been released to the masses, but will be soon. In return for a little bit of my assistance, I now have in my possession the full system dump and the boot.img from the gingerbread build on the esteem and will be working to see if it can somewhat easily be ported over.

New 5.5.891 update (root users do not update)

I've had a few people I know get this update. Its supposed to be updated in november. Guess they are rolling out early.

Is this the one that fixes everything?!

This is not an Ota update right? I am enjoying [R3]BLURR3D V1.8 way to much to loose root.
P3droid released a mod to keep root on any updates.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
and I hope that works, I did the exact same thing..
So, I am fearless.. Where can we get the update?
Have they actually gotten the update with a stock Bionic or did they find it online and decide to install it?
As far as I've seen, the current leaked OTA is 5.5.893....5.5.892 was being tested by the Motorola Field Testers and today a small update to 5.5.893 was released so I assume the Motorola Field Testers are now testing 5.5.893.
I wouldn't install anything till we at least have confirmation that it is the actual OTA...otherwise you might not be able to get future updates.

Has anyone updated to 891-893 after applying the "forever root" technique? If so experience?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Well i tried and. . . I still have root. 5.5.893 with root
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I did the forever root along with the update and everything turned out fine.
Glad it worked

Are you guys getting OTA updates or installing something?
Both lol

Has anyone ripped the update? I am REALLY sick of the 4g failures.

Thrill issues

I just got a replacement thrill still have issues with the phone I was wondering if someone can help me find a link to when this phone will get 2.3 gingerbread
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
It hasn't been announced and nobody knows for sure. Last date I read was Dec. 9th which came and went.
At&t promised GB to all 2011 phones by the end of the year, but when have they been known to be truthful?
Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk
well you can just use the GB KDZ file and it would work.
If I have a replacement phone and the problems continue what will at&t do
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
you could try cm7... thats gb. and man is it quick
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G...
Its quick, but its not very polished yet. I havebtried sk3 yet, but the first selfKANG was rather buggy. I'll be trying out sk3 soon. We'll see.

ZV8 update

Just got a notification to update to ZV8 on my GVolted revo. Anyone else seen this or know what is updating? I cancelled it until I found out more about it. Verizon's Revolution support site only mentions zv7.
ty
Yup, just got the notice. Am on GV2.0 also.

I was tempted to let the update go through to see what it did, but I'm currently driving from San Francisco to yuma, AZ and need my phone for navigation/music purposes and didn't want to kill my phone for the rest of my trip if something went wrong.
I am curious to know what it does though, if anyone's brave enough to risk losing root, or updates by accident

LG revo update
Found this:
support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/revolution.pdf
any way to stop besides deferring?
Don't update unless you put stock recovery back on other wise it will fail then you are going to see if you can get root again hopefully, one of the newer exploits for the esteem/spectrum might help with this.

I had heard somewhere that lg had a fix for the reboot issue, could this be it?
Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk
Wifes phone updated and radio, kernal, build #, and sw version changed. It just said phone enhancements so im not sure what yet...lol. Tried mine for the hell of it and downloaded fine but wouldnt install due to clockwork, so i just rebooted and all is same as it was. Will switch recoveries later and try again.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Edit: kernal did not change but it is android 2.3.6 now
So now with this new update they can remotely get into your phone and troubleshoot it. Little creepy there lol. I'm only on my first replacement now when I call get will want to troubleshoot the thing.

HA.. that is creepy. I am sure MT will find a way to block that on next GingerVolt.
Cant seem to get stock recovery back on here. I followed steps and it said it was good to go but when update tries to install it goes back to clockwork. Any help would be cool. Thanks
