- Summary: N1, 2.3.6, when not in use shut down with no apparent reason. when turned on showed the "Welcome To Nexus One" initialization screen.
- Background Details:
A 2/2010 (unlocked, used on T-Mobile) N1, that was updated regularly, and worked on 2 wireless networks. about 3 weeks ago was updated OTA from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6.
Was experiencing lately (after last upgrade) occasional drops of WiFi connection. Also experienced faster battery drainage, including (rarely) a fast going to OFF, even without time to orderly shut off.
- Detailed Description:
Today it was on, fully charged, received a call and it worked fine. Saw about an hour later it went off. I thought this is due to the fast battery drainage I experienced lately.... I connected it to a charger - but saw battery almost full. Seems it has got through a hard reset - or rest to factory settings. It shows the "Welcome to nexus one" screen (touch the android to begin).
(At this point I've tried no further yet - waiting for your responses)
** It may be that the power to my wirless router was disconnected several times at the time of the Nexus One crash. I use secure connection to my WiFi, but also have cellular data connection.
** Additional info: Has 3 google accounts on this phone.
** The backup / restore option was ON sometime in the past, and almost sure it was lately OFF.
- At this point I've tried the following - none helped:
- recharging the battery to Full and restart
- change SIM to another operator (worked in the last 2 weeks, after the 2.3.6 update, on both networks, both in roaming and home networks)
- The device has the stock ROM, bought unlocked directly from Google, usually operated on T-Mobile USA, and was never rooted.
Cannot see the device version from settings(since cannot see the settings screen), but see the following when in the HBOOT screen:
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
RADIO-5.08.00.04
Oct 12 2010
- My questions:
1. Is there a way to restore my user settings?
2. Can I try the RECOVERY option to retrieve an older OS version, and would it retain my user data?
3. What is the procedure to recover the latest google stored data for my account?
4. Is this a known problem?
Thank you

So, I bought an used HTC HD7, to use with T-Mobile USA's Prepaid service. The previous owner was rough on the device, and never updated it. I ran all the updates to Mango, and was happy to have a WP7 device again.
About a week later, I was in a Tim Hortons, and tried to connect to their WiFi. My phone's WiFi had a mini freakout (as did my CR-48, but I just swtiched that to VZW 3G), and didn't think much of it. Since then, my WiFi has been ****.
When I go to the Settings app, and turn on WiFi, the slider turns itself on and off a few times, and sometimes sees networks, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it just reboots. If it sees the networks, I can connect for maybe two minutes, and then WiFi just shuts off.
I know this isn't a problem with my router. I've double checked, reset the bands, configured a 2.4GHz G band just for the device, no luck. No other device has a problem with the home WiFi, and the problems continue on other networks.
I reset the device through Settings > About. I reset the device by holding the volume buttons on startup, and hitting volume down to reset there. I restored the original software, and WiFi seemed to work just fine. I reinstalled Mango, same result. I restored the device, and used a second computer to upgrade to Mango. Same result. I wiped and installed the Touch-IT ROM (V3), and the WiFi won't even turn on. I'm going to Task 29, and install the stock ROM through the EXE found in the HD7 shipped ROMs section, to see if that works.
I tried looking in dialer codes, but I couldn't find any that worked with the HD7, to try and find a WiFi restore in there. Any thoughts?
(And yes, I've contacted HTC, but I'm not the original owner, and he gave it a reasonable amount of cosmetic damage, and my past experiences with sending electronics in for warranty, has been abysmal to say the least. Their only suggestion was to call and see if it still had a warranty. Considering the phone hasn't been out for a year, I'm a little disapointed that there's a question there...)
This has been going on for about a month but I finally decided to try to fix it.
It started with my phone seeing my home network. It says "remembered" but it gets stuck in an endless loop of "Connecting, disconnected." It cycles so fast between the two that if you blink you'll miss it.
Things I tried:
-Forgetting the Network(doing this made the problem even worse, I'll explain later)
-Power Cycling everything
-Fxr and other wifi utilities on the market
-Battery pulls
-Factory reset
Since I did the forget network option the network at my home no longer shows up, along any other network I'm around, open or not. It just scans and never finds anything. I can be standing right next to the router and the phone doesn't know it's there.
So my next steps were these:
-Rooted phone
-Deleted bcm_supp.conf in the wifi folder with the wifi off. Didn't change anything.
Got some results when I deleted bcm_supp.conf with the wifi turned on, cleared phone cache, turned wifi off and then turned it back on. At that point the phone could finally see my network again but I was back to the connecting, disconnected problem I started with. That's the only way I can get it to see networks but it still won't connect.
I've all but given up and hoping someone has other suggestions.
U could try flashing a different modem.
What is ur phone set up right now?
Right now everything that I have is stock. 2.2. Only thing I've done is rooted so far in attempts to have more control of getting this fixed and try a few of the fixes i read about from google searches.
I'm admittedly a noob at the higher levels of phone tinkering but I'm not opposed to it obviously, so I'll look up info on flashing a different modem. Thanks.
I had the same problem until I updated to a custom ROM. I went to Pheonix' ROM but it also works on Team Hacksung's Build9.
Just today I noticed that the 3g data on my phone won't turn on.
I normally have my wifi on but when I go out of range the phone would auto switch to data plan.
Today it did not switch, tried putting the phone in flight mode and back out again but this did not help. Its been working fine up to now.
I have put nothing new on the phone or changed any settings so don't know why its all of a sudden stopped working.
Can anyone help??????
I had the exact problem last week and i resolved it by calling my mobile data provider,it turned out to be a problem with their servers

Both comments make a lot of sense.....
I think I will get a replacement SIM card before messing with the phone. If that makes no difference then its a Settings change then a hard reset.
I hope to god the sim card change will do it.
OK here's where I'm currently at.
I tried a number of options to get it working with no success, then I did the following and it came back on.
1. Turned on WIFI
2. Set the phone to Flight Mode
3. Powered down the phone for about 5 Minutes
4. Powered it back up and waited for it to settle down.
5. Turned off flight mode (it asked for my PIN)
6. Put the PIN and it booted up with WIFI on.
7. Turned off WIFI and the Data came on right away.
I have since turned WIFI on and off and the data go's on and off as expected. I also checked my email and did a search on Google on the data plan and it loaded everything fine.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed it has sorted itself out.
I hope the above instructions will help someone with the same problem should it happen to them.
No access to Optus data
Hey guys,
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've been having a similar issue.
Calls and SMS work fine but the data is 110% gone.
I previously had an Optus prepaid and I noticed that I could never get the data to work.
I have now switched to TPG...somewhat hoping that it'd be better, turned out the same (granted they are the same network).
I have tried fiddling around with different APNs and restarting the phone each time to no avail

Hi all,
I have been using my galaxy note n7000 for an year now. From last couple of weeks I have these following issues with my phone
Whenever I go to a roaming area, my screen flashes with a message "Refreshing SIM Data" and immediately I lose the HSPA connection. This message keeps popping up on my screen as long as I am in that roaming area. I have another phone (HTC) and it doesnt happen like that in that phone
Now this one is very scary, Sometimes when I am connected to 3g/hspa my screen flickers with bright horizontal bars and immediately loses the whole network (no net, no calls). And after a few seconds phone automatically restores the connection and everything is fine again. But may be after half a minute this happens again and phone gets switched off. When I switch on the phone again, it would have lost all battery and I am greeted with a low battery message. Wierd part is that if I charge my phone it shows the current battery level again. This thing happens probably twice or thrice a day.
third one is also weird, I can browse internet, download apps from play store, unconditionally. But if I try to update an app then things wont happen and I will get a message saying that app could not be downloaded due to an error 495. I did find this as a known issue in play store but in my case some apps get updates successfully but only some would not.
I have searched for this in whole of XDA Forums, but none of them worked. I tried clearing caches of play store etc. I even installed 2 to 3 rooted roms (both ICS and JB) but no luck. Now I am back on stock ROM but issues still persist. I also contacted network provider (Vodafone India) they seem console me by telling me that everything is fine from their end !!
Story end
2 seems to happen due to an issue with battery. Try a different battery
3. for error 495.. if you are rooted and have cwm.. then boot into recovery and do a wipe dalvik cache and try again. it usually works after that,
1. no idea about this.. i dont get any such messages.
thanks !
2. Yes, I will do so
3.I tried all these, infact wiped everything more than twice
1.
First got to applications then select plays store and clear data. Then do the same for play services. Try. If still no go the wipe dalvikcache from recovery and it works. I get this error every now and then,
I think you are running an old firmware, is that correct?
In general go to service centre and warrantee.
If you dont mind warrantee, root, make efs backup on and off the phone and pcodin a newer firmware.
If wipe and such, do only on safe kernel.
1 - I have not see that so cant help - Sorry.
2 - A lot of us are now having that problem .. and it is not particular to any ROM .. it is happening with all ICS and JB ROMS's and started only 2 - 3 weeks earlier for phones purchased more than a year ago.. am also looking for a solution on this.
3 - I have not see that so cant help - Sorry.
AW: [Q] Few issues for which I need help
1. Have you tried selecting the network manually when you are in a roaming area?
2. That's a battery issue. Maybe the battery is a bit weak and does not provide enough voltage when nearly empty. I also recommend trying another battery.
3. No clue, sorry.

hi all, thanks for your replies.
I have managed to get rid of /find out the cause of these issues,
1. This is a network specific issue and was not related to phone. It has something to do with our roaming settings in network provider. !! I called them up and spoke to their technical team, so I am expecting some resolution soon
2. Bought a new battery -- problem solved (thanks guys!)
3. This is also a network related issue. ISP was blocking certain web requests !!. I changed my sim to other network and my google play just works fine. Reported to Vodafone.
Hello,
today I was playing some games on my Moto X when, as I closed one, I noticed that internet wasn't available via Wi-Fi. At the time I had 6.0 without root, upgraded from 5.0 stock via OTA. I tried turning the Wi-Fi off and on again, airplane mode on and off, rebooting the phone, rebooting into safe mode, forgetting and re-adding the access points, disabling the hotspot discovery, none of these things worked.
So I tried to flash 5.0 stock again, correctly (checked the model, the version -it's a XT1092 reteu-, everything, it's all right), but still the phone can't browse the internet via Wi-Fi. I've even tried running the safe mode over the fresh flashed stock, no results.
My bootloader is unlocked so I'd prefer not to hand it to Motorola. It sounds like an hardware issue (never dropped my phone, no scratches, no weird shakes, it's perfect) but since I have time till at least monday, I'd like if anyone from here could help me solve this issue.
Many thanks in advance.
EDIT: Solved. It actually was an issue with the modem: two devices were using that IP, apparently. The thing is no new devices entered my home and everything I use is set on static IP (except for the phone, I had it restored a couple of weeks ago so I forgot to set its). It's still unclear what actually happened but it looks ok now. Don't close the thread, just in case something new comes up.
I am having the same issue on my XT1097 on Android 6.0 but only on my Office WiFi. Would you care to exaplain (in a dumbed down way) what you did?
Thanks!
