I have a Samsung Galaxy S rooted with firmware Froyo. What do I have to do to upgrade the firmware to Gingerbread?
First we need to know if your phone is locked to a service provider or unlocked, and what region you are from, as most models have now been offered gingerbread via keis.
The phone is locked and Im in Australia

If you are already rooted it would be much easier for you to get gingerbread, you need a gingerbread rom with gingerbread bootloaders, the first link in my signature will take you to sammobile's firmware page.
I remember the JVP rom to have gingerbread bootloaders, you have to flash the files using odin, re-partition checked and pit file 512.
You should really check before if you are locked to a network.

so no mean waiting just flash custom is best.....
DTJG4 is OPTUS stock firmware.
Looks like we are all in it togeather.
The European firmwares are far in advance of ours.
Greetings to everyone.
I have a DXJP2 ROM that I'm happy to share to the community. We'll need assistance in rooting and uploading said ROM. Cheers!

I'm interested. At least in the radio ROM!

I think you should post this in a new thread. The DX region ROMs cover southeast Asia, and a lot of us would be interested. The pda may be older but the radio rom and csc are interesting.
Thanks Hardcore. Your comment is much appreciated. Can you please enlighten me on the things that make this ROM interesting?
To give you a little backgrounder Sir, I got hold of this ROM from my provider about 6 weeks ago just after Samsung failed to meet their September Froyo commitment. I was kinda adamant in making a thread on this ROM because I wasn't sure how the community will react to it given that it's a leaked ROM and there were already a number of ROM releases that were being modded and/or enhanced, even some that has higher build numbers like JP3 or JP6.
Let me assure you that I installed this ROM and found it to be very stable and fast and obviously, I pretty much wanted to root it and performed a lagfix (to make it faster and just to see the Quadrant numbers for the heck of it). But, since I'm not a software engineer / developer, there was obviously a lack of knowhow on my part to implement said operations.
During the course of this time, I made a number of PM's to several members asking their help on how to root it, but, their replies and suggestions to root this ROM pointed me to either JP6's or JPA rooting instructions, which using my common sense weren't applicable to the DXJP2 (if my conclusion is correct). I also fervently monitored the activity on this forum (which I haven't done for a number of years) hoping that finally there was someone who's able to get this ROM build besides me and who already found a way to a root solution, but up to now, there's not a single thread on this.
I hope that a good member of the community would stumble upon this thread and help us in rooting this build. In the meantime, until the root for this happens, I hope we can keep this in thread or until an official DXXX build comes out.
What do think my friend?

I'm using Doc's JPO 7.6.2 ROM as of the moment with an upgrade package that I edited using 7Zip, Stock AOSP lockscreen with extended power menu and battery mod. Oh, and I'm using the Hardcore's V2.2 - 200Mhz kernel.
I read somewhere in the XDA that there will be Froyo updates officialy available from 11th November and later on, like a couple of days after... Yet nothing for us JG4s... I have a DXJG4 with no good news...
Can someone confirm whether we will have this new update anytime soon?
If samsung is gonna hold longer than this then I'll deal with Froyo myself.
official Froyo update for JG4 was released yesterday November 19. Philippines

That's the way to do it, forget waiting on Optus etc to release anything.
I don't see what they shall bring to the table, Optus apps woopie do already got them & APN info etc from backups.
Only interest I have is to see what radio they use, however JPP is working well here so far.
Honestly, Optus doesn't have the man power anymore to go performing miracles like they did prior to Singtel taking over. The Optus geek pit on the 21st floor in North Sydney is RIP. I'd hate to see whom is in charge of doing the firmware releases these days. Guaranteed it's a clueless monkey or it is contracted out to another mob to save $ for Singtel
I'm from singapore, and i haven't get Froyo yet. ):
DXJG4.
Check your Kies, singapore's JPA is out
How about Malaysia? Froyo out yet?
Also can someone running stock dx post their CSC, modem and PDA codes so I can flash mine back and do the official kies update?
Hi
I am using a AT&T captivate with andriod 2.1 Update 1 (build Number ECLAIR.UCJH7)
The phone is unlocked as i am working these days in another country and using a different network. I want to update my phone to the official rom update by Rogers (andriod 2.2) which came this week.
Can anyone here please tell me how to do it and that will my phone remain unlocked or not. Also tell me if there are any issues doing it. I am not using the AT&T network so branding is not a issue.
If anyone here could please explain to me with some links to the things i need to download to update.
Thanks a lot people

For Cognition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912657
Latest version: 3.04
For Firefly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914284
Latest version: 2.0.4
These are both stable, you can read the change logs from the OP in those threads. Your phone will remain unlocked, if it is already unlocked after you load a custom ROM.
The captivate has no official FROYO yet. 3 days back, T-Mobile Vibrant released an official FROYO update.
Hope this helps
Hi all,
I am wondering if someone can guide me to the correct direction.
This is my phone (samsung Galaxy I9000)
Model GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.1-Update 1
Base Version: I9000 DTJG3
Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected]#2
Build Number: ECLAIR. DTJG4
It is unlocked - orginally from Optus.
this phone feels very slow and not very responsive at the moment.
I am thinking of upgrading the firmware hoping that it will improve the persformance
Can someone please tell me which firmware will be best for me? I'm not going to root the phone and I am just after most effecient firmware (good wifi, GPS and signal)
I am not sure which one is most stable for my phone.
Thank you
you could flash a stock gingerbread rom.the ones with bootloaders.jvh is pretty stable.2.3.4 ones will have phone fc bug..you'll hv to root ur phone to get rid of that bug..stock roms u can dwnld from ramads thread..for gps/wifi/signal u will have to flash the appropriate modem.there was a thread comparing modems somewhere here on the forum.try searching it.if u really want near zero lags it would be best to do ext4 lagfix..but again rooting will be reqd.gb roms are fast without these but lagfix still brings noticeable change.
Thank you for the reply.
It seems that I am gonna need to do root on it.
If that is the case, It will be much appreciated if I can be pointed to the correct link (tutorial - step by step) to get this process.
After reading some of the psosts I get really confused with all the type of firmware and kernel etc...
any suggestions and links I can follow will be much a great help much appreciated
Thank you again
The below links helped me out.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/

Read the tutorials carefully, then read them again and again until you are sure and confident. do not use if you dont feel confident.
Make sure you have the 3 button combo (recovery and download).

Hello, you can try JPY on 2.2.1, it's a stable firmware without the bugs of the gingerbread, if you doesn't want to root your phone.
Thanks for all the replies guys,
I just upgraded to GingerBread 2.3.3 XWjVN.
My next question is:
If I want to get rid of all those Optus rubish - Can you please tell me which firmware do I need to install?
There are so many types and I really get confused which one is going to work for me.
I have seen my friend's SI9000 very fast and snapy - is the firmware upgrade the way to do it?
Thanks again guys

G'day all.
I've been searching, and I'm unsure on what to use to root my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000B (Telstra). It's a slightly different model number, and I just want to know is there a way to root the thing and install CWM without bringing up a triangle and increasing the counter? I already purchased MobileOdin btw.
Model: GT-N7000B
Firmware: GINGERBREAD.DVLC1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000BDVLC1-CL1006149 [email protected] #2
Baseband: N7000BDVLB2
Thanks
Have you tries superoneclick, rooting will remove the Telstra ****

Nope, no go, it's not directly rootable. Has anyone rooted an N7000B?
Why would you want to root it, that's what your wife or gf is for. jokes aside let me know how you go I just got mine on Tuesday and am yet to root it .
Well I am not sure if anyone has tried an N7000 rom on an N7000B. I didn't want to end up with a shiny new brick, thats why I asked here. I already have done a search and all I got was vague answers. Has anyone successfully flashed/gained root access on an N7000B?

I would also like to know this. My phone is exactly as above (also from telstra au)
...I dont really care about the yellow triangle or counter though(I can sort that out later when there is more support for this model)
I would like to be sure that the process will not brick the phone, this would suck as its only 2 days old .
best if I know that someone else has done it first
thanks.
The n7000b is just a firmware. you can flash another firmware (and it will not brick your phone). the only down side to this is you won't be able to go on the telstra mobile websites, eg. mobile foxtel,
Anyone brave enough to try to root this one?
I just got my note today and would really like root access....
bump
I'm interested in seeing how this goes as well. The itch to root and flash something better than Telstra's rubbish is growing but I am nervous about the process (it seems vastly different to my old Desire).
I find the stock rom not too bad.. GREAT battery life, the only thing I want root for is to record my calls (use it for work).
I have a call recorder installed on my stock Note that doesn't require root. Got it off the market too.
It's called Call Recorder.....

isnt mobile foxtel just an app...
Anyone done this yet?
I tried the call recorder apps off the Market but none seem to record properly, they just use the speaker.
My note originally from Poland (!) bought via UK back in early November (can't believe I've had my wonderful toy for over six months now!) Given that there were very few Notes back then and next to none in Oz, I was very nervous about rooting and flashing - the challenge you are facing today. I spend many days reading nearly all the threads before biting the bullet and doing my first root!
All I can recommend you do is read Dr Ketan's flashing guide very carefully and make sure you have a backup. I've had a few nervous moments with black screen but always been able to recover by rebooting into recovery and restoring a backup. I'm on Telstra and never had a problem with any firmware I've used (I don't using Telstra Foxtel)
I know that the latest version requires you to flash an older version of ROM before you can root, but once done you can remove all the annoying rubbish and use great programs like Titanium backup to backup and restore the apps you want and freeze the CPU hogs!
I hope that helps you - my experience was different and I felt very alone the first few times I flashed (never having done it before) but the forums have been a godsend in helping.
PS I have never used Mobile Odin - I have found that CWM does all I need it to
So if the WiFi freezes on the N7000B, would it use a different WiFi chip or something? I did hear that the N7000B supports 5GHz and 2.4GHz where the N7000 supports 2.4 only. Not sure if this is true
Hi, I've had the n7000B for awhile now. and flashed most of the firmwares from n7000 model with no problems. been on GB, ICS. all spec about these models are the same. but still haven't found out why this is B on our model.
anyway it is safe to flash n7000 on n7000b!

Did your friend tell you wether he tried to install a Custom Rom?
You should try to "restore" the Note with a Stock Rom installed with Odin.
I always use an old Gingerbread Rom with three parts. But you can download the right one for your country from sammobile.com. That's easy.
In the sticky threads here (Dr. Ketan's are very good) there are descriptions how to work with the Odin PC version.

I will not check other sites for firmware when everything is here - I'm lazy and I know I can trust them here in XDA.
See here for possible versions.
You should choose a version for the provider your friend uses.
