OK, I'm trying to flash from CM7. I've installed the Android SDK with Nexus S usb drivers. I can get into download mode, that's not the issue. The issue is that the computer will recognize a mass storage device and an Android Composite ADB interface (my phone) however, it will also say UNRECOGNIZED device. I've read thread after thread on here and have followed all the different suggestions and I've tried all different USB ports on my computer. The only thing I haven't tried is a different cable. ODIN will not recognize my phone no matter if it's 1click or not. I even tried installing ubuntu on my computer and when I chose to boot that instead of windows, it gave me all sorts of errors and wouldn't go any farther. suppose I need a dedicated linux machine. anyway. I'm at my wits end trying to get rid of CM7. can it really be this damn difficult to flash over it?? I really don't know what else to do besides a different cable, but I don't really see how that would be the problem, considering when I have no drivers installed, windows recognizes my phone as a captivate and wants to install the captivate drivers......even though I've already installed them?? my phone ends up showing up as the Android Composite ADB Interface, which I mentioned earlier. Can someone please for the love of God freakin' help me get this off my phone? I am still have very horrible battery life and it is too buggy still for me to use it everyday. I would appreciate any response I get. YES, I know I've posted with this problem before, that thread went no where and actually got deleted. but OK.
Try using a different computer, preferably with a different OS(win 7 instead of XP, etc).
What kind of error when installing Ubuntu? Only error I had using wubi installer was windows-no disc (just keep clicking continue until the install wizard pops up)
After installing ubuntu it wanted to reboot. So I did. I chose to boot into ubuntu it flashed some errors real quick with no time to read then rebooted. Did this several times. Don't know what the problem is. I will have to search for access to a win 7 machine. Seriously though I'm ready to smash my phone. This should not be this hard.

I flashed my phone with Cognition v3.03 and now I am getting these nature noises mixed with music, the kind like you would hear on a white noise machine to relax by. So far it has happened twice. I can't figure out how to stop the "music" without having to shut the phone off and restart. I have tried to use Advanced Task Killer, which reports that all tasks have been killed but the music continues. Has anybody else had this issue.
I also had an issue with incoming calls. When I would receive a call I would get a pop-up message about com.android process has force closed. I was able to resolve this by disabling the Answering call --> Answering mode. Not sure what this was doing but my phone didn't like it. Can someone explain this.
Looks like a bad flash. Did u try restoring to stock and then flashing the ROM again. And do not restore any system data using TiBu.
Cannot flash back to stock
I have tried to flash back to stock but I cannot get any windows pc to recognize my device. I am getting USB Device Not Recognized msg. I have tried this on several Windows based machines (laptops and desktops) all running Win 7 Ultimate one is a 32bit the others are 64bit machines, multiple USB ports, different cables. I have tried un-installing and re-installing drivers. Still not able to get pc to recognize device. I can plug into my Linux laptop (my main laptop) and I can mount as mass storage just fine. I even tried to uninstall the USB ROOT HUB on one of my laptops and still getting the same issue.
Is there another way of flashing back to stock other than using Odin.
also this happens if I am in phone mode with USB debugging enabled or disabled, in download mode as well.

If ur ROM is a 2.2.1 based, u could try copying the ROM in my sig to ur sd card and installing this. This could work, if the ROM u r using too is a 2.2.1 based one.

Is this the Rom in your sig. I ask because as far as I can tell you do not have a link in you signature for any ROM.

I found, for me anyways, the source for the nature sounds during music playback. I use doubletwist as my main media player, and just recently used the whole airsync feature. While syncing, I noticed that all of the UI sounds are in the playback folder... And in those UI files are clips for rain and mist and keypress and other various noises.
It really doesn't bother me that much seeing as how the sound clips are less than half a second long and it's just a 'blip' between switching songs.
I am currently using the custom rom di11is5.1 I do like it. Thanks again for the recommendation.

Try these: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...3/SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2.zip
Drivers straight from samsung.
Edit: if you are trying to mount your phone as USB drive and are on miui or cm7 you need to install the nexus s drivers then. Samsung drivers will still work for download mode. A computer restart sometime does wonders too.

When you installed the drivers, did you right click and run as administrator?
It would be helpful to know what mode you are trying to connect in, download mode, usb mass media, usb drive or tethering. Did you install heimdall by any chance? On your phone switch to a different option under usb settings and see if your computer will detect your phone then. Sometimes if you install a new rom, usb drive wont work until you switch it to mass media then back to usb drive.

I had to grant administrator permission when I ran the installation, but I didn't right click and give it permissions from the start.
And I'm trying to connect in download mode.
Its only on eclair that it doesn't wanna see the phone, idk why. It saw it on MIUI(on I897 GB BL) but not on eclair/froyo BL

Have you tried downloading Kies (the full version, not mini) and reinstalling the drivers that come with it (they are under tools)?
I will try that, would you link me to it, cuz the last full kies I put on was in Chinese
I'm on my mobile. Go to Samsung home page. At the very bottom, you will see a tiny US flag. Click that, and you can change your location to the UK. Then just go to support
Thanks!!, I spanked your thank key!
Kies Mini is the only one that shows up for the Captivate specifically.
I dont see a full kies.
Didnt work..
Have you tried different cables? Different USB Ports? I'm beginning to think it may be a hardware problem, not software.
Had same problem before. It was the crappy USB cable u get with the phone. Switched it with a better cable and had no problems after that.

I've had the same issue before. Get pdanet. That fixed it. and now I never have recognition issues (just don't forget to make sure usb debugging is enabled).
Crazy thing happened. I deleted all traces of Samsung from my computer and then restarted and left alone for awhile, then Viola it worked(WTF!!!!) I dont even have the drivers installed( after uninstalling them I deleted all Samsung Folders in Program files and Program Files(x86).
Its weird but im happy now thanks all of you for helping !!!!!!!!!
I also used my little Bro's HTC Inspire Cable instead of the OEM cable.
Did u try it with the other cable when u did this? Or with the stock cable?

I've seen the other posts people have made and guides around here, but none of them work for me. I've had no problems installing the drivers on any of my other computers, just my new desktop. I'm running the same version of windows 8 on my old laptop and it works. Same drivers, same OS install disk.
I'm posting here as a last resort, I've tried probably 99% of every guide on the forum, and google.
I can't for the life of me get fastboot to work. ADB works fine, fastboot just will not work.
I have usb 3.0, and usb 2.0, I've been trying both and neither of them will work. I've tried using multiple different usb ports, I have 4 usb 3.0, and 3 different usb 2.0.
I've disabled signature verification to install the drivers, but it acts like it uninstalls it and installs it's own drivers again.
Then it says the last usb devices malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it.
I'm uninstalled reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled. I've tried some "all in one" driver packs that people put together, but fastboot refuses to work.
I'm running windows 8 64bit.
Any ideas?

Did you disable "Fast Boot" option in Settings -> Battery? (nothing to do with the fastboot command, it's a setting in the power options)
And when you're in the Fastboot mode of the bootloader, does it say "FASTBOOT USB"?

hi mate i had this same issue tried all sorts, various guides etc which non of them worked. in the end i did find a guide that got it working. my problem was that intel usb 3.0 aren't compatible whatseover you need to uninstall them and install some new modified drivers. this is a known problem with windows 8 64 and intel 3.0. it also does stop fastboot from working with your usb 2.0 ports. have a look for the guide, i will also try to dig it up and ill post back if i find it.
edit: go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256359 you will see that im post #2. this was the only thing that fixed my problem. follow it to the letter and im sure it will work.

It's either something driver related or because it's 64 bit, I haven't had a chance to really diagnose yet. I would start by completely removing htc drivers and try again. Or maybe try a different pc if no luck getting it to work. This weekend I will try to get it working on my work pc and report back what I figured out.

From what I can find about the "Offline" status is that you need to update your Android-Sdk there have been quite a few updates recently.
Also try this for configuring your drivers correctly
(If you are using Windows 8.1 this will most likely not work)
On your PC go to device manager and find your phone(usually M7WLS), right click and select properties
Select the driver tab
Select update driver
Select browse my comp
Let me pick
Look for ADB USB device or similar should be one of the first couple choices
Select MyHTC install and you should be good
That's the thing my old sdk was working fine that's the thing I have the drivers updated ok. It recognized my device but it shows my phone to be offline.

Uninstall everything HTC
Unplug your phone
Reboot your PC
Install these drivers
Plug in phone and let it install the drivers(it will install drivers in recovery, bootloader, and booted to your OS)
Then do the steps I posted if you still have problems.
I followed what you did, and followed the instruction you posted earlier as well. I went to Driver tab and tried to update the drive and there wasn't an option for ADB USB Devices. I unchecked the recommended box and still came up with nothing :/ Is there anything else I need to install?
