[Q] Cyanogenmod most stable nightly? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I am still running stock 2.3.6 but I am thinking about unlocking my phone to run CM. Anyway, I have been browsing through the dev CM7 thread and found that there are a lot of random reboots, lockups and other problems in the 7.1 stable release. I am thinking that installing the an older nightly perhaps would give me a better experience. Which nightly would you recommend?
Thanks.

I think its not good to stay on
a single nightly because there are few tweaks with every new nighty which makes it better from last one.
Anyway I recommend you to try cm7.1 rc1 before trying nightlies
For some time.

On my N1 Cm 7.1 is stable to but playing videos in flash full screen causes so many lock ups, i hope cyanogen would release a minor update for it

I'm one latest nightly, build 227. Very good and stable for me.
Just make sure you do a clean wipe including system partition
when coming from a different ROM.

Thanks guys! Do you know of a bug tracking page that lists all the bugs that CM7.1 currently has?
Thanks.

Not a bug tracker, but I find this page very useful and visit it daily to see if I want to upgrade to the latest nightly or not: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=passion
Looks like the latest nightly is marked as 7.1.0.1... #227 as baseballfanz said. Maybe that will fix the problems you mentioned... however, I will note that I've been running 7.1 stable since the day it was released (nightlies before that) and have had zero problems at all. No lockups, no reboots, no problems at all no matter what I do with it...

7.1.0.1 is a maintenance release for a few devices. The N1 was not included in this list. And most of the reboots and instability issues with the stable release are resolved when people perform full wipes of the phone. It has been rock solid for me.

Thanks guys... I have installed CM71 Nightly 231 last night. It was going smooth at the beginning but I got stuck on flashing Amon_Ra recovery. For some reason my phone wasn't taking the CM themed version but the original version installed fine.
First problem after flashing the ROM and gapps was Market wasn't downloading apps for some reason. I think it was because the phone was reinstalling all the apps at the same time and it just couldn't handle the load. I had to install the apps one after another and that got through it.
The phone rebooted itself when I played a video for the first time, but it's been working rock solid so far. Now I'll have to figure out how to use S2E!
Thanks!

CM7 7.0.3 not for Nook?

i keep hearing that CM7 7.0.3 has been released but theirs no download when i go to the link to the nightlies. how come? source: http://pocketnow.com/android/cyanogenmod-703-stable-released
CM 7.0.3 is Android 2.3.3. The latest nightly is n63 which is Android 2.3.4. I'm not sure why a 7.0.3 Stable wasn't released for the Nook, but the latest nightly is based on a more advanced version of Android so you're probably not missing anything.
Hrmmm this is good to know

I'm pretty sure live wallpapers are not enabled in n63. This is an issue that others mentioned on the CM7 General Discussion thread in the Nook Development Forums. I think someone figured out how to add them back in manually. Check the aforementioned CM7 thread if you want to take a crack at it.
What's wrong with life wallpaper? It works fine in 7.0.2 stable.
As a side note, 7.0.3 is built on Android 2.3.3. The latest nightlies have been using Android 2.3.4, but might have the security hole in them as well. For the time being, if you're running a CM7 Nightly, rolling back to 7.0.3 Stable is advised.
UPDATE: 7.0.3 seems to have some problems with adding Google Accounts and trying to do almost anything in the Market, but ONLY if you're coming from an Android 2.3.4 Nightly.
According to Cyanogen: "The 7.0.3 update is *ONLY* for people using 7.0.2* stable builds. You'll hose your system if you install it on a nightly from the last week."

Good information in that first link.
Guess I will stay with my nightly!

Yup. I gave it a test drive to see how the nc took to them and immediately went back to plain bgs. I can respect people who like them, I just see it as a battery drain and they tend to be a bit laggy on some "pretty" ones.

There is something specifically done for releases that includes LWP. Why it's not done on every nightly I'm not sure.
Well i just took a visit to cyanogen's site and it looks like this is what they have to say about the 7.0.3 update:
"CyanogenMod 7.0.3 is now available for download. This update contains a bug fix for our update notification system, as well as an important security fix. It is recommended that all users running a version of CyanogenMod prior to 7.0.3 update to this release."
As it says it fixes an important security bug is it not safe to continue running 7.0.2?
The latest nightly (n64) has been posted on cyanogen's site.
Im currently running 7.0.2 and want to update to 7.0.3 but since there is no release of the latest stable update for the nook i'm wondering if i should flash the latest nightly?

Thats because there is no 7.0.3 release for the Nook as of now. The latest build is the nightly n64.
Looks like all other supported devices got the 7.0.3 update. I wonder if the security fix is only applicable to phones.

Nook not booting after 7.0.3 upgrade
Today May 9th at 1:00PM CT, I received a notification of the 7.0.3 update on the nook, I proceeded as usual but when the nook tried to reboot it got stuck on the blue "A N D R O I D _" screen. I'ts been there for more than 10 minutes now.
Any ideas on what to do next.
I checked the backup option before proceeding to the upgrade. Unfortunately I don't have here another SD to boot Clockworkrecovery and try to restore.
Thanks

I read that the first .3 was bad, and now there is a Signed .3 version up, is that the one you tried? If so, suggest you go back to nightly as there is a #67 now. I'm not sure why the dev's split off the two builds, 2.3.3 vs 2.3.4 but it was confusing for many, myself included. I'm wondering if the new .3 Signed is 2.3.3 or 2.3.4, how can you tell before installing???
I don't know if I used the signed or not, it was the one that ROM Manager prompted to install.
When I get home I will try to flash the backup made during the process. hope that take me back to where I was.

Cyanogenmod runs on Gingerbread, so saying its better is a contradiction.
If you let us know what problems you had in the stable version we may be able to help. That being said, the latest nightly IMO seems more fat and just as stable as the latest "stable" edition.
thanks riso
i mean the last version of gingerbread
i post the problems in forums and i see many thread speak about other problems
i hope cyanogen team fix all problems
If you are not happy with the stable then you could update to a nightly and once you find one that works for you, stick with it. Nightlies are designed for people who want to test the ROM to help developers so updating regularly is not a good idea if you just want something that works.

thank you chrono
ok i wait
Nightlies arent always unstable, most of the latest nightlies are great.
It isnt required to update every day, you can just update to the latest nightlies every week if you want to.

Nightly v.s.
I have read that snapshot is the stable version and nightly the more testing version. I originally tried to flash a snapshot version but had absolutely no luck getting it to work. It was around 150mb. I then found a nightly version and tried it on my samsung sgh-i747m s3. It was closer to 300mb and it worked just fine to install and run. It was my first time trying anything like this and I quite probably did it all wrong but like I said... no go for the snapshot but great success for the nightly. Cyanogenmod 11.
What I wonder is, I have seen some images of Cyanogenmod 11 having a full screen size keypad for dialing phone numbers and the one I have is only a half screen version. Is that because of my phone or the mod version or a theme? I have tried many themes that also show a full screen keypad but mine stays half screen and changes color. Anyone know?

Captivate Keep Alive and 4.0

Does anyone know if the app "Captivate Keep Alive" is compatible with ICS?
I had been using it, but since I upgraded to ICS, it launches and shows the icon in the status bar, but only shows it initially in running services, then still in status bar, but soon after doesn't show it in running services, no battery drain (apparently it's stopped) and won't close, have to force stop to get it out of the status bar.
Tried to find on the Dev site, App Brain, etc. any documentation, but can't find anything about compatibility with ICS
Unfortunately my phone suffers the random shut downs, especially at high battery levels, when idle.
Thanks
Ive heard of it not working before with ICS based ROMS. But specifically im talking about the Team ICSSGS ROM. So first, you need to tell us what kernel you are running and what ROM. Because I switched to the Glitch new build 2 days ago and have yet to suffer a random shutdown or charge death which I got almost daily with the old build. We will see if this lasts though.

Thanks,
running Doc's Master ICS V5 with the included kernel Glitch V14-B5 Kernel
I also wasn't having any shutdowns, and thought maybe it was solved with this ROM/kernel, but then had an overnight shutdown about a week ago, but still overall probably better, because when I get up in the morning and see that captivate Keep Alive stopped, and battery is at over 80% and didn't shut down, so looking better, except that one shutdown.
Ok, B5 just had a new release a few days ago but for some reason the dev didnt change the title or update the thread. He just made a post about it. I just want to be sure, are you running the kernel I have linked in this post? It was just posted 2 days ago.

Haven't updated to the most recent version, still the version that came with the ROM, which I downloaded maybe 2 weeks ago. Didn't see the kernel was updated, now wondering if I should consider updating the kernel to the newer version, notice he indicates Nandroid backup should work, which is nice.
Edit: not clear if the other version is the right one for my ROM, maybe should stick with the version I have.
Edit 2: I guess that's the only glitch kernel, as you mentioned he hasn't updated the title/name inn a while (on my phone the version from 2 weeks ago shows V5)

I would. Thats the kernel I am running and have found it more stable than the older release. Its a simple download and flash through CWM.
EDIT: If you are currently running ICY Glitch, then an update will not effect anything. If you are currently running another kernel then you will need to check first. Post in the Q and A for your ROM.

[Q] stabelest nightly?

Dear community sweet community of knowers-all
Which is the stablest nightly of them all?
I should just grab newest?
Sent from my windows phone while driving to pick up my touchpad:-D
Im using aokp milestone 5. I like it! In terms of stability all the recents rom are pretty much the same. Some just have more features.
Newest. They have all been stable.
~E.R.A.
I was running AOKP M4 for a while and it was pretty decent... upgraded to M5 and had some issues.
Switched to the latest nightly of CM9 (0430-nightly)... and love it! Best wifi experience with an ICS rom yet and performance is top notch...
i done screwed up
guys,
I think i've been following the guide to a T, aside from using a nightly .zip instead of the alpha they mention, . .. butt ...
After it's all done I see Moboot. I ask to boot cyognemod and it shows cyogenmod logo for about a minute then it just reboots and goes into the Moboot again.
Have I missed a step?
I have tried and checksummed (before running the script) both 28 and 30 CM9 nightlies, the latest ones. Everything looked fine until I tried to turn it on after the script finished.
Any ideas?
*EDIT I need to read more, and discover ACMEInstaller2
p.s. cwm works, yay.
Thanks for your help!
Yaaay!
ACMEInstaller2 was the culprit. I hope the guide is updated somehow to mention that if you're trying cm9 that you should use the different script.
yaay thanks for the advices. it's nice to know they don't release nightlies that would have regressed a previous version!

[Q] Updating to cm10, flash video question

Hey all, I've been out of the touchpad dev loop for about 6 months. I am currently on cm9 alpha 2. I really don't have any problems with it at all, except for the camera/mic, which I don't use skype often, but it would be nice for it to work without having to switch to webos. I also am interested in the low battery drain of cm10, especially in sleep mode. This is the only other thing I don't like about cm9.
I see that cm10 development has been improved, however I also see that flash video isn't officially supported with JB. Can anyone confirm a cm10 rom with flash video in the browser working? I use a flash encoder to stream tv from my house to my tablet, and I use it every day at work, so it's important that flash in the browser works without a hitch. I see you can workaround with Dolphin, however I've tried Dolphin with cm9, and the flash is very low quality, almost unwatchable to me.
If anyone doesn't think cm10 flash is stable enough, can anyone recommend a better cm9 rom with the cam/mic working? I know there is a cm9 nightly thread, but I am hesitant to flash a nightly and develop more problems. I tend to only flash a new rom on my tablet and phone every 6 months or so; I really don't have the time to test out nightly builds.
Thanks to anyone who can help!
I personally had cm9 nightlies installed on my touchpad without a problem. Camera was working, and i believe the mic is as well. You can always create a nandroid backup and try out the nightlies yourself with minimal risk.
I also just installed cm10 and flash video is working in dolphin for me, looks fine but i'm not trying to stream anything high quality.
If you don't want to flash anything new for a while I would stick with the cm9 nightlies. The last nightly i installed was on there for months with no issues. The first post in the stickied thread about nightlies on rootzwiki hasn't been updated in a year so don't mind the statement about the camera not working.
let me know if you have any further questions
