Hey everyone
My Desire just died last night :-/
And I need a new phone... My question is just:
Should I buy a optimus 2x or find something else in the same price range ??
I have never used an android phone for very long with the original rom.. if it changes anything here...
I ask mostly because when the 2x cam to market, there was a lot of talk about that the phone was a piece of...crap....
is it any better now ?
Best regards
B4Me
Nope and it will never be...HW is solid, and SW will put it to the drain. Just wait for Nexus and you're all good
buy it i never had one problem only the stock rom is a little slow but if you put a custom rom an it, then it will be fast
If price is right i don't see any reason why not to buy o2x. I got mine from local shop for 200€

Then I'll take your word for that its good
as you're a dane, I can reviele, that I'm wobling between buying it from "føtex" og Telmore
2499 dkk right now...
or
3200 dkk over 6 months...
I'm one of the peopple who has had a dodgy phone with BSODs
But I think I'd say.....
If you plan to root and install a custom then yes it's a good phone. (though make sure that if you get a BSOD you get the handset replaced asap).
The custom GB roms out for this phone make it a solid handset.
Though, after the announcement that the Nexus S will receive ICS, perhaps that's a better handset to purchase?
Hardware is awesome, no doubt about that.
Just one thing I dislike about this phone. LG came out with a half-finished OS, and very slow on updates.
Don't think I'll buy a phone from LG again.
I'd personally go for Samsung G II, Galaxy Nexus or Motorola RAZR (if you can get your hands on it)
i just bought this phone a couple of weeks ago, at a very cheap price as well.
But yes, as stated the hardware is quite something and the software is ehh...
So if you dont feel like installing custom roms and would like ice cream sandwich in a couple go the nexus s, it would be your best bet
but on the other hand, you would admire your O2x with the installation of custom roms.
i know i did.
Dont buy it bro!, hardware is good but if you want to prove the newst software you have to stay behind the scenes!! ----) CM7 - toogigi , modaco, and other custom rooms, on the other hand nvidia dont release its code, so that complicate thins, if I dont see progress I will sell my phone and go for something next year!
If you are still undecided watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCMT46SYgj4
Its my phone stock but rooted. The video is unmodded to see what that baby can really do
not to buy, i think, or it wil take time to wait for update or return to factory to repair.
It is a good buy.
dont buy. Its a piece of ****. Hardware is pretty good but thats it. Software sucks.
I have this and I can get the Nexus S for same price. Only reason I chose this is for the sd card slot. If you don't need an SD card slot get a Nexus instead. After all the Nexus is how its supposed to be, not these manufacturer tainted versions. If all androids were like the nexus in the first place then very few people would have bothered to develop custom roms for it.
In the end you need to pick which camp you want to be in, the nexus camp with smooth sailing or the lg with false update promises and roms that work better on g2x than on o2x.
My friend got a white SGS2 recently and that phone is beautiful. Despite its large screen that phone actually fits in my hand when I sms and doesnt feel like I'm not having a proper grip. Its super thin and super light and truly sexy.
Don't ever buy an LG device.
Yes and No
As standard, I was ready to smash this phone. it was Laggy, overheated, crashed, rumoured Updates never arrived. I'd had enough.
Then I put Topogigi v2.0 on it. It's like having a completely different phone. Smoother, Faster
The Neoblaze Kernel lets you overclock to 1.4Ghz.
I'm finally liking this phone again

I have an opportunity to get this phone and I was wondering if you guys could give me a quick list of some pros and cons with this phone. For cons, I'm mainly looking for things like is it laggy, bad call quality, etc. And for those who have updated to gingerbread, could you give some pros and cons over froyo?
The phone itself has great hardware, but the development and support for this phone is the worst I've ever experienced. Take heed of my advice, don't buy it. I regret it, again not because the phone ducks but it's just been abandoned. Don't dream of this phone officially getting ics without root. If you're gonna buy a smartphone, WAIT for the HTC One (S/X)!!
Take faresr's advice. Wait on the HTC one or get the Thrill if your on a budget. I was going to wait on a Nexus device but it seems as if Google dropped the ball with their "first update policy " as seen with the Nexus S which still doesn't have the official ICS update. I've had a Samsung and they sucked with the 2.2 update for my Craptivate and now this LG Thrill. I'm trying HTC the next go around.

we are getting ics just later this year and with the 2 awsome roms we have biohazard and thiaz03d this phone rocks ive had no problems with it or lg there are alot of phones that dont have ics were not alone.
If you're on a budget get either the Motorola Atrix 2 or the Samsung Captivate Glide, otherwise you will have to carry extra batteries or a charger with you.
Sorry no hate here by any means.

Atrix 2 battery isn't that much better. I'm fact....no android battery can go through the whole day with heavy usage. Just internet browsing itself will kill the battery.
I bought this phone on craigslist for cheap and yeah there is hardly no development for this phone but with Thiaz Prada GB rom, GO launcher and v6 supercharger script this has become one of the best phone I've owned and I have went through alot of smartphones. another thing is with this rom I also have T-mobile 4g. Better phones are coming though. so I would wait
Hi
I need a new phone, and I have come down to either the Optimus 2x or the Huawei Honor being the best options for me.
I am mostly interested in the 2x due to its good specs, however my research tells me that it was full of bugs to begin with. I am not very fond of using custom ROMs, so my question is, how is it running with the latest official update??
The latest official firmware (v20q) is very good. You will be satisfied on stock. However, if you ever want, installing custom rom is not a big deal. Do some reading in dev section and you are good to go. And there is very good stock based custom roms, which you can flash once and no need to change/upgrade anymore .
Thanks good to hear, I heard a few horror stories about the phone, but I think it was with the original rom which was full of bugs...so there is no problem with it today? (if updated)
I think it is a good phone but there are some better options out there.
My carrier, for instance offers the galaxy nexus for the exact same price today(it hadn't launched here when I got my O2x). SII seems to be better too, but it's also more pricy.
yeah but they seem more expensive. I think spec-wise you dont find a phone matching it for the price, I was just wondering about its actual use.
Do not buy this. It is a fail phone.

Really? What do you mean?
If you don't have a problem waiting for the ICS update go ahead
well, it should be out sometime this year, and if their 2.3 works well then I can easily wait
you should and you should use stock 20q rom with gueste kernel, his app for adjust everything is amazing, for example you turn on zram in there and low ram problem has gone
Great phone go ahead.
I is a good phone,i never had any problems and i meane any. I have it for over a year.

Physically the strongest phone I've used! matches the Nokia 3310 as far as im concerned, missed my pockets many of times and its gone crashing down to the concrete, screen hasn't cracked. I always use a screen protector so idk about scratches.
Stock roms are pretty slow, you cannot brick this phone so why not try Temaseks CM7? Lightning fast
Everyone loves to complain about the battery but that's life, depends how you use it.

Sorry to say but i actually agree.
The problems i had:
- for three months i couldn't make calls under 3g regardless of baseband /ril combo or rom. I wasn't the only one witht his problem, other people with LG had this problem too.
- the radio of the phone goes off randomly if you are in area with bad coverage and doesn't come back until you restart the phone.
- i have four bars and still sometime i can't receive calls, one time i was waiting a phone call and i was actually watching the phone and saw full coverage, i received a sms from my carrier saying " somebody called you while you were unreachable". It's a known problem that lg has never fixed, some devices have this problem some don't.
There are better phones for your money, personally i'll never buy anything from lg again. The 2x is a cheap phone with performance yes but it misses an important part: the phone itself (phone calls, radio signal) sucks.
Calling quality is bad, other than that, you can find many roms for it, that can work well and suit all your needs.

Got this phone secondhand for 190 euros. the phone will be overheated if you use it heavily during charging. No problem otherwise
If you want to buy it as second-hand phone (about 200€) I think you are going to make a good choise..if you are going to spend 300€ or more, you are doing a bad choise..the hardware is very good but the 2x tegra2 platform is no more supported by nvidia and lg is not so good in making software..so I think you are obliged to install a custom rom
Hi there.
Atm i'm using an htc desire with cm7, runs really well, but i do notice the phone is getting quite old.
Thought about upgrading to an LG 2X.
Is it worth it ?
Are you happy with your 2X ?
One of the reasons i'm looking a LG is because all the new phones, while fancy, are so freaking big, i mean, 4,7" screen, that's hardly a phone any more, that's a mini tablet. The 2X is one of the only dualcore phones with less than a 4,3" screen.
I don't use my phone for games, i use it as a phone, navigation and some browsing.

That's a very nice phone, 1 year old, but...if ICS update comes, it will be very amazing.
After that, the O2x is not even brickable :good:
Lot of custom rom are still available if you're not happy with the stock one...
For a daily use phone...it's a very good choice :good:

I just realised that i've been playing with an "hp liberty bell" for a week, and it's also running the tegra 2 chipset. And it was nice.
So unless there is something else they screwed up on the hardware, this seems to be my next phone of choice.
I am also very satisfied with my O2X. I had the same screen size issues and I didn't want a screen larger than 4.3". And I didn't want to spend that much money on SGS3 so O2x was my natural choice.
O2x is a great phone with affordable price this is a perfect screen size

It's a nice phone and I learned the hard way that it a pretty tough phone. Jumped in the pool for 10 seconds and it still works. The screen is nice and in all its a nice device.
Just remember, when you buy this device, by it for what it has now. The possibility for ICS is shaky due to LG/Nvidia. So if you like GB go for this phone, If not get a nexus s or galaxy nexus as those are guaranteed updates.

But it does get ics, right?
I mean, it clearly has the hardware to run it.
According to LG, yes. The 2X will get ICS. The real question is when. LG first announced that the 2X would get ICS in Q2, now it's been delayed to Q3. We're all eagerly awaiting for that.
All in all, as others have said, the 2X is a great device.

Don't BUY it! I swear you will regret it! LG's never gonna release the ICS update not now, not ever!
SAVE YOURSELF! Do it for us O2x owners ;( *silently dying*
I vote for YES! )
This device is so powerful. The hardware is decent. Only software just not satisfied. But if you love to do something/tweak, then it is fine. But if you just like end-user who only use the phone out of box, you are welcome too but don't complain this and that. ifyouknowwhatimean
With the price so much cheap (in my country,LOL) it is so worth to own it.
About ICS, maybe LG want to focus on 4x HD 1st, then after end promote their 2012 flagship then only they focus on 2x. HOPEFULLY. haha
Don't make the mistake to buy a LG2X or a Terga2 tegra3 device !
its a great phone. but lg are a pain, they took ages to release the official gb, they announce 2x wont get ics, then it will get ics, then it'll get ics in Q2 of 2012. we are now in Q3 and they havent made any comments that i have found to say its been delayed.
LG are rubbish but the phone is good. just keep that in mind, im sure that official ics will arrive but i dont think it'll be any time soon.
again its a great phone, even without the official code the devs here have made a couple of great ICS roms (few bugs obviously) and lots excellent GB rom so think what they;ll be able to do once official ics comes out. - its the only reason im keeping my 2x.
Im happy with my O2X.. Im using ICS rom, as I dont mind its bugs and it's nearly perfect. Everything runs well and I wouldnt change the phone as it fulfills my needs. Give it a try.

I have now had my O2X for more than a year. It is sturdy and reliable and yes, the size is good!!
It is the phone I have had most fun out of and I have been on the mobile phone wave since mobile phones were portable, only with a wheel barrel.
I am rather convinced LG will provide the update to ICS and thus give the drivers to our developers, so we can enjoy fully functioning ICS roms eventually.
For trying new ROMs on, it is just a breeze and there are so many to try, you will be addicted to this sport.
I am a gadget freak as any other man, maybe even a little more, but this device has kept me happy now more than a year and I think it will last a year more!
So, nuff said; I recommend it as a good buy.:good:
BR
Mike.
I don't mind tweaking, the first thing i do after unbox is root.
With my desire i tried many roms, but after a while i figured that CM7 was the best option, nearly no bugs, and good support & development community. But none the less it is getting old, even tho my setup runs butter smooth. CM7 with launcherpro & s2e.
Atm i've got my eyes on one for about 120€, seems like a good deal.
Well, my experience with LG is that most of their products are crap (except TV's maybe), but once in a while they make something good, you just gotta know to steer clear of everything else.
Wondering why some people don't recommend buying tegra 2 or 3 chipsets, they are pretty powerfull. Is the development bad for nvidia chipsets ?

Hi fusk!
I am really happy about my O2X, but I'm a bit surprised at the reasons you are giving for choosing an O2X.
Actually, it is precisely when I'm browsing that I think a bigger screen would come in handy.
If that's what you use it the most for, I would consider looking into the galaxy S2, if I were you. It has a bigger 4.3" screen BUT the phone is practically the same size as an O2X (I have had both in my hand and was able to compare them myself). The S2 has much better screen/phone size ratio, as the O2X wastes a lot of space at the bottom.
Of course, the O2X is still 25% cheaper than an S2... but if your only criteria is size, the S2 is more or less the same size of the O2X with a bigger screen.
EDIT: Just saw your post where you said you were "eyeing" one for 120 EUR... I would be careful about buying older O2X's... there were a lot of people reporting BSOD (black screen of death) while charging and random restarts. I bought mine early this year and I've had none of that even in stock ROM, so I would say the more recent batches are better.

I've had my desire for 1½ years, and used it for all those things, never thought my screen was small, it had a perfect size.
I have played with the S2 and i don't like the size, But you are right that sizewise they are pretty close. But so are many phones. Going from 3.7 to 4.7 is a huge difference, but from 3.7 to 4, and from 4 to 4.3 are small diffrences.
But as i think the HTC desire which weirdly enough is the same size as an iphone is the perfect size. I am trying to stay as close to HTC desire size as possible while bumping the hardware specs. Instead of looking at the S2 i found the S1 to be more interesting.
Actually i think this is very interesting. Android and W8 phones are getting bigger and bigger, but the iphone stays the same, while getting 5mm longer it keeps the formfactor. And i'm quite sure all of them have done extensive research on what people want, but clearly two very different results. I'm one of those who wants to keep the desire formfactor with new specs.

I see, have to take that into consideration.
I've absolutely bashed LG for every phone they made because in all honesty, theyre crap. They are horrible cell phone manufacturers and they should stick to TV's.
After seeing the Optimus4X I was pretty impressed, but it was an LG so I wouldnt buy it anyways.
Then I saw the Optimus G. Hmmmmm theyre getting somewhere, the specs are there and the phone actually looks nice. But its STILL an LG.
Then the Nexus 4....holy cow this thing is amazing. PRICE, specs, build quality (that i can tell from videos)
But its an LG...........
IDC
The fact that it doesnt have LTE or a removable battery or expandable storage was nothing new. They had already said that it was not going to happen. Except for the LTE I mean. Thats not that important. Only ATT is a GSM carrier with LTE right now and they hardly have any. So pretty much no one cares..
BUT ITS AN LG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could just care less. Maybe they had to use them to keep the price down. Its ok Google. With that firepower, it could be a ZTE or something crappy like that and I would still buy it. Put a case over it and cover that branding LOL.
But all in all, how can you hate a phone this cheap with these specs from Google?
If you do, im sorry but go away. go buy an iphonecrap
I was literally about to pay full price for a galaxynote2. but then this was announced.
I can buy 2 of these if i want for the same money.
Enjoy the phones my friends. I will.

LGs typically sucked because of the horrible software builds. This being a nexus pretty much eliminates that big issue.
The s4 pro has great battery. The optimus g gets 8 hours screen on. The issue is the prerelease software the reviewers got. Expect the final version to do similar if not better the optimus g.

I'm in the same boat, always bashed LG ever since I recommended the original LG Optimus (A budget phone when it came out) to two friends and never heard the end of it.. apps were crashing without reason, the whole phone would lag up randomly and it was just chaos, I ended up installing CM7 on them both and it stopped some but not all problems.
I didn't even pay attention to the LG market up until recently, I thought well if it's LG then it will have a childish UI and be built for idiots. Wow was I wrong with this one. I haven't been this impressed with the design of a phone since I got my iPhone 4 on launch day. The iPhone 4, if anyone remembers is the only iPhone that I actually appreciate because it was completely different and built to look good while remain more powerful than the competition at the time.
I am going to buy the Nexus 4 as soon as I can and hope that it's just as good as the hype makes it out to be, I've already found a buyer for my S3 i9300 (not LTE version) for a cool $400 which gives me enough money to get the 16GB for $399 here in Australia and only spend $20 on shipping. But if it's anything like the original Optimus, this phone will be finding a place in a drawer and I'll go back to Samsung, Exynos sources/documentation or not.
TL;DR This phone better be good or else my newly regained faith in LG will diminish as quickly as it came.

I'm still using my LG Optimus. It's been the most reliable phone I've had. I've thrown this thing, quite literally, across rooms before, and it's 2 years old and I've yet to put a single scratch on it. Development has been amazing, I'm currently running a completely stable CM9 on it, and there is MIUI, AOKP, CM10, CM7, CNA, you name it, that are all slightly less stable. It might not be the best phone in the world, but it's good. My phone before this was a non-android LG phone, and it was pretty solid too. Software sucked (it was a feature phone. All software sucked for them lol) but once again, the build quality was solid. So far, I've only had good experience with LG Phones, and I'm guessing this Nexus will be a fine addition.

Thanks for your opinion on a phone you only saw pictures of. So comforting coming from a guy that admits to being biased easily.
Oh and BTW... just to help you with electronics... LG produces ****ty TVs...
does this phone support micro sd card?
No but I hear people are fine with that since it has 128gb internal memory, LTE and a reinforced aluminum back and dual removable battery
even i hate lg but the nexus 4 is amazing!! i hated lg for its late updates , ugly firmware...
This hardly needs a thread of its own mate, come on.

I am fresh off my 2 year and am riding out the service till summer when new phones will be out. I am on an Optimus one at the moment and Really want to get something new. Off Contract of course. Would you suggest the S2 or would a G2X be good enough for the next 6ish months?
Any other devices considered as well.
I realize this may be in the wrong section, sorry if it is.
GS2 all the way. If you can get the O2X P990 over the G2X, then that's a good choice too, but the GS2 is still better.
The G2X is going to be stuck on Gingerbread until someone figures out how to get the cell radio working in CM10 (currently it's been ported from the P990 CM10 and everything works except the phone part, lol). The O2X has official CM10 support but it is still not quite as stable as most would like. The GS2 on the other hand got official ICS and JB updates and has great support from CM10 and AOKP.
sgs2 is better, do not get a g2x, get an optimus 2x.

The G2X is going to be stuck on Gingerbread until someone figures out how to get the cell radio working in CM10 (currently it's been ported from the P990 CM10 and everything works except the phone part, lol). The O2X has official CM10 support but it is still not quite as stable as most would like. The GS2 on the other hand got official ICS and JB updates and has great support from CM10 and AOKP.

wait, Isn't the osx and g2x pretty much the same phone, just different branding? I honestly don't know if ICS of Jelly Bean has anything I NEED. I just want it to be stable, have the market so I can download apps, games. Stuff like NFC is cool and all, but the chance of me using it is real slim. I think I am still an Iphone man. It's just simple, everything works ya know. things come out for it first and there isn't many issues. Idk Maybe if I got a higher end android I wouldn't mind it much. but My optimus t burned me on google os.
Also I'm on T-mobile in the states. if that makes the difference

No, there are differences besides the branding between the O2X and the G2X. The G2X was designed to run on T-Mobiles networks, so the 3G bands it works on are different than that of the O2X.
I think the SGS2 is better than both at this point though.
alrighty. I was pretty set on that anyway, but thought I would see what some fellow xdaers thought. Any idea where else I could look for a GS2? I tried Swappa, Glyde, Ebay and Craigslist. any others I could browse? trying to stay around and possibly under $230

ebay and kijiji are the only sources I'm familiar with.
The GS2 is massively popular so despite its age it's going to be expensive even used.
If you say you're more of an iPhone type of guy, I guess the G2X will fit your needs if you don't plan to flash custom ROMs.
As for ICS/JB - it's more than just NFC, it's a hardware-accelerated interface that makes scrolling silky smooth compared to GB, as well as general refinements in the UI such as the pull down notifications for SMS and the really nice lockscreen (the CM10 one at least). The hardware acceleration is the biggest deal here though.
Additionally, if you aren't the custom ROM type of guy and want simplicity, I'd suggest taking a look at Windows Phone - it's closer to iOS than to Android in that it's relatively locked down and there's hardware consistency across all handsets, but it's still considerably more flexible than iOS, i.e. you can (easily) get your media off the phone after you put it on!
Im not talk why and why, so my decision would be a SGSII... thank you xD

sgs2 with absolutely no doubt mate. the only thing id be thinking about is the s-amoled display (i kinda have a thing for lcds), but since ull be using it for less than a year i see little chance of getting any ghost effects on the display (which doesnt happen to everyone anyway). ive seen a sgs2 running ics (not even jb which is right around the corner) and i was blown away.

absolutely right. women being smarter n more practical would obviously go for a trouble free device. men, being ehhmm men, would go for the o2x so they can spend 100's of hours to fix all bugs, modify roms/kernels, overclock and then happily show off to their friends a phone that runs (almost) as it should in the 1st place

Oh I flash a lot on my Optimus1 but I'm tired of it. Regardless of what android devices I get, I'll flash something to get rid of any bloat and give myself root access to do link2sd. I can't get the O2X cause I am on T-mobile so it would be the G2X I guess. I just want to get the phone and play with it now.
I know all about Windows OS. I would but some of the games/apps I like to use arent on it yet. If apps came out within a small time period on iOS, Windows and Android, then i would consider it more but not just yet. Only thing really drawing me to windows is the awesome camera on the Nokia 920, I think.
Guess I'll try to hunt a SGS2 on craigslist or Ebay for now.Just real tired of this 600Mhz phone with 180mb for apps. LAME!
If you are willing to save a little more, I'd suggest looking at either the Galaxy Nexus (used) or the Nexus 4 (new, $300). Both are pentaband phones so they support T-Mobile and most major GSM carriers. And they are pure Android, no carrier apps or stupid skins, so if all you want to do is get rid of bloat, it's really unnecessary to flash custom ROMs onto those models. In fact, the reason I got interested in CyanogenMod at first (back in 2011 with a HTC Desire Z) was that I really wanted a Nexus experience, and all the extra customization features were just a bonus.

Yes sir, I looked for the Galaxy Nexus and it's about the same price. and the N4, well its sold out now and probably will be next time, by the time I did buy one and it shipped, I'd get my phone in June. Pff nah. I'll try to keep looking for the s2 or an older nexus. Do you think it's stupid to resign? I want to keep myself off contract so I can go where ever in the later part of the year, be it ATT or Something else. I'm so confused
I don't know a lot of phones that support AWS 1700, but one provider in my country has a fairly healthy listing:
http://shop.windmobile.ca/ProductCatalog/Handsets/
(ignore the prices there, they're bound to be inflated over what you can get stateside or on ebay - dock off at least $200 as an initial estimate).
That might introduce you to some more options, hope it helps.
Go with s2. You get more development there.

thanks guys. This can be deleted now. I'm in the forum general now
Leave the G2X where it is. No support.
I'd rather go a cheap and by a O2X, it's really supported by the community and it's a lot of fun
I must say GS2 its better dude,. Not a fanboys..

What do you think about the Sensation 4g? I can get it for under 200 unlike the GS2 which is upwards of 250 and higher.
