[Q] p990 more than powerfull enough to run Ice Cream Sandwich? - LG Optimus 2x

Icecream Sandwich has been all the news in the android community within the last couple of days.
Since our O2x has some pretty high specs, you would think that it would get the update, official or not.
Question is, would it be worth the wait?

Google said: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device.", as you say the P990 has a decent spec so I don't see it being an problem.
I will be using CM9 for sure (if / when etc.) IMO LG will never put ICS on the P990... (they haven't even sent 2.3 to us in Norway....)
Google, hurry up and release the source!!

What does the future hold for the Tab, HC? ICS?

Hey guys, I know this has probably been asked before but what do you think the future holds for the galaxy tab 7" ?
With Honeycomb looking like its not coming (officially anyways) and gingerbread still being a smartphone OS, do you think perhaps Ice Cream Sandwich will bridge the gap?
I love the Galaxy Tab as it is but keep in mind thats its not offering a true tablet experience, and i dont want to come across as domeone who doesnt enjoy it, I do, however I am interested in future devrlopment.
Cheers.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab.
Honeycomb with eventually be ported and working well, other wise just use cm7 with tablet tweaks, maybe one day Samsung will update to ice cream, but who knows when that will happen, tho they did roll out gingerbread "fairly" quick
I can see a update to HC, I mean I love the GTab, I use it more then my xoom b.c of its perfect size.

Has Gingerbread been release for T-mobile or am I waiting for T-mobile to release GB?
I hope Samsung atleast release HC if not ice cream.

Any device released with froyo will never have an official HC update, Google said that.

False.
Honeycomb is only for tablets.
Ice cream sandwich will be the next update, but I don't think the tab will get it.
The Nexus One will get ICS though, and it launched with Eclair.

No way Samsung updates the tab 7 to ice cream sandwich. It will have to come from an amazing developer around here

I'm fine with Froyo honestly, though wouldn't mind GB or HC
Using a custom 1.4 Ghz rom and is as fast if not faster than my ipad
Not that fussed about HC now after playing with it on the Nook. Icecream wouldn't be bad to get the new 'toys' appwise, but the UI? I prefer the 2.x style tbh. I think it works better for 7".
Now, I CAN see Samsung releasing a NEW 7" Tablet with updated gfx core running Icecream, with a thinner form factor too.
Dunno, see how it goes, but what we've got works and works rather well I think.

[NEWS] Gingerbread for Optimus one shown!

Guys look! LG optimus one is getting the Gingerbread update soon, there's even a video of it in youtube, I hope LG does something for the optimus 2x. We could also predict that the Optimus 2x will have the same icons for the notification bar and most probably not lose the Overscroll glow effect! Well we could also predict that our update will come soon as it would be an outrage if the Optimus one receives the update 4 - 3 months before Optimus 2x
Source here
Considering that the O1 was launched nearly a year ago, I don't necessarily see this as an indication that O2X will get GB soon.
Usually, in the phone market, the phones that are launched later will receive the update first. for example, the HTC desire HD got the Gingerbread update whereas the HTC desire have not. Furthermore, O2X is the flagship device of LG.
Understand that O2x is the flagship etc but it could also have something to do with device compatibility, hardware constraints (as in the case of HTC Desire/HD)and of course sales volumes. I feel LG has sold way more O1s considering the lower price point and they promised GB to O1 users in Dec 2010.
That it took them 6 months to get the GB release out after declaring their intent doesn't bode very well for O2X does it?

Hmmm most probably the update for o2x will come in Autumn or will there be a change to closer date of release
Actually the LG's GB rom is kinda irrelevant, running CM7 without bugs and i don't miss stock ...
Only wish for the source of all the nvidia's stuff and LG's GB source, so that it gets even better.

Wow optimus one takes one year to get GB. i think o2x still need long time. I hope that LG can always release new firmware and baseband to ensure there will be no bsod/reboot problem at least for stock rom
i want 2.4

Very optimistic. We don't even have a decent version of Froyo, there are delays with GB but we want ICS!!
Yeah! xD but I dont think ICS would come so soon as the Nexus 3 is scheduled to launch in December and the Nexus always gets the first to have the latest Android firmware
Why not? By the time Gb will have been released for us, then ICS will be shown for the public and we would just starve for it imo. As far as I am concerned I would skip to Ics but it is never gonna happen. Sry for my bad English!

So how long until an ICS Port comes along via custom rom?

So ICS just got previewed in Hong Kong as part of the Samsung x Google event.. looks really good... how long does it usually take to get a stable rom of a major firmware release up and running?
For those who missed it:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-now-official/
Stable? Sdk ports won't be stable mate, they might work... But they certainly won't be stable
CM7 FTW @ SGS - Tapatalk
ICS requirements are still up in the air, and that will dictate what and how much can be ported over.
In the mean time check out the ICS launcher in the market. Google won't let you download it from the market, but you can still get it from the dev website...

Can't wait to get ICS running on Galaxy S I9000...
Google confirms Nexus S will get Ice Cream Sandwich -- for real this time (Gingerbread devices, too)
Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior.
see in Engadget...
I just read @ android central that Google is in the process of getting ICS ready for the Nexus s. Our I9000 would be certainly capable of handling it but without the bootloader, kernel or drivers all we would have is a test rom.
Let's hope Sammy gives us a sweet farewell with one last os upgrade.

I will expect one (at least beta stage) before Christmas, otherwise I will have a galaxy nexus for my Christmas present.
Won't the next version of cyanogen be built on ICS?
Well in theory we now have confirmation that our hardware can handle ICS no problem. Beyond that, be it through Samsung, a clever dev or Cyanogen, ICS will be hitting the GS. Sooner than most might think.

ICS 4.0 confirmed for all phones that are Gingerbread compatible
so it'll be just a matter of time

LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the ICS(OS) update

LG Uses Facebook To Confirm Ice Cream Sandwich For Optimus 2X And Other ‘High-End Smartphones’
Well this is a sudden turn of events. After previously stating that the phone would not be getting the Ice Cream Sandwich, LG has confirmed Android 4.0 will be coming to the Optimus 2x as well as other high-end handsets. Hit the break to see the official statement from LG’s Facebook page.
“LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.
Thank you very much.”
There you have it kids. Straight from the source itself, Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming to LG after all. Given LG’s notorious history of lagging behind with the updates of its devices, it will be curious to see when Android 4.0 becomes a reality on their handsets. That of course, is if LG follows through with its commitment to the ICS update for the Optimus 2x and other select devices like its other US counterpart, the T-Mobile G2X.

but LG didn't deny they don't provide ICS to optimus black
Yeah, I don't think they consider OB as an high-end handset ...
Horse sh**...they were the ones who posted that they will not bring ics to g2x.
I wil' buy ob if either lg announces that they will provide ics for ob or somebody assures me that there will be some unofficial port to ob definitely.
Please help me guys.Iam in dilemma
any help would be appreciated
I can't provide any assurance (and I don't really understand how can you request that), however, I'm pretty sure that CM7 support will get to be official in a while, and once that happens, I guess that we'll also be receiving ICS as soon as CM7 gets it as long as there are enough developers working on this phone Support our developers to get them motivated and show them that you care and you'll have ICS on your phone long before LG releases the update (just as I have gingerbread on my phone right now via CM7).

ics is already ported to single core samsung google nexus s and it is running smoothly. So there is no doubt that ob gonna run ics smootly. Its upto the devs
For me, I will NOT recommend any LG phone to anybody.
When I purchase an open source OS phone, thw most important thing for me would be the continuous support.
If I will not have it, I prefer going to Iphone..

official ice cream sandwich

anyone start petition to LG for release of ics for optimus 2x?
Hi, why do a petition just for that ? Except Nexus phones there not official ICS on other phone..
They have already said ICS will be released some time in Q2 of this year.
As we are still in Q1, there is no need for a petition yet. The need for petitions will only arise when the promised release date goes by with no word from LG again lol :-D
