I currently have a Samsung Captivate I896 on APEX 8.3, and I want to get back to stock rogers 2.2 so i can upgrade to 2.3 via kies.
I have been using a blackberry for a while now, so I have basically forgotten everything about android rooting, roms etc...
Help is appreciated

Read my sig. If you're having problems, PM me. And btw you need Odin to flash the roms, if you forgot about that.

Hey guys, I'm basically new to all of this flashing roms n stuff. I am currently running Firmware 2.2 Baseband Version UCJI6 Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1 Build FROYO.UCJI6. I updated to that with odin3 one click so my phone hasnt been rooted either. Obviously I want to upgrade my phone to a more recent version of 2.2 but am not sure how to go about it. I tried to update the kb1 that was just released by samsung but kies mini will not read my phone. Do I need to flash back to my stock 2.1, if so how do I go about doing that? Can anyone please help me. Id really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yea, you need to go back to 2.1. However, I have no faith in kies what-so-ever. It outright refuses to upgrade my girlfriends stock captivate...

I'm having the same issue... I tried to flash back to stock ROM using ODIN, but it just kept me on JI6 build. Any help?
Yesterday I received a new firmware for my Swisscom 3G Galaxy Tab when i launched Kies.
First it asked me to update Kies, then after system reboot, it suddenly asked my if i'ld like to update to the new firmware. Anxious of getting Gingerbread, I chosen yes.
Guess what ...
No Gingerbread but Froyo 2.2.1
GT-P1000
Baseband: P1000XXJMI
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: Froyo XWJMJ
Kies did not give me any further updates after this.
So, still, no GB
Cheers
Martin
Gingerbread has started rolling out and you can now update to it via Odin.

Did you read the 1st reply to the OP?!
is there a way not to do a full wipe when installing gingerbread?
I heard that firmware 2.2.1 must be installed before gingerbread can be deployed. So it is probably good that you installed it.
Now if you really want gingerbread today go to the developers section and install the Overcome rom. In its thread you'll find a great guide if followed the installation is very simple.

Same here.
But on my Tab it still says Froyo 2.2, but the kernel is the same, as well the baseband and Build.
I was hoping for GB...
I received a new replacement captivate from at&t with 2.2 already loaded on it. Does anyone know if the bootloaders are the same that are needed to run GB roms? Is there a method of identifying which bootloaders I have? I'm dying to jump on a GB rom, but I don't trust my laptop at the moment so I don't want to use Odin. I read in another post that phones updated through official kies were loaded with the GB compatible bootloaders. Just wishful thinking really. Thanks!

Well considering 2.2 is not GB then no they are no the bootloaders for GB. The leaked version has new bootloaders. Odin is your only shot
Figured as much. Guess i'll use a friend's pc when i have time. Thanks for the reply!

Hi all,
Well I was able to install a stock UK Gingerbread ROM, but now that I have the phone function enabled, I need to unlock my TAB and would like instructions. Here are the specs that I have:
Model number: GT-P1000 (Originally Bell)
Firmware: 2.3.3
Baseband: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
[email protected]2 #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1
I also noted that my SGT is not rooted. Am I able to root it? I tried with z4root, but it seems it doesn't work with Gingerbread.
In the end I would love to install Overcome.
Thanks for your help.
Bruno
To root it you need odin and c4 root
To install overcome Jupiter(for gingerbread). Try this site:

c4root doesn't seem to work on gingerbread 2.3.3...
Any way to unlock it?
Thanks.
you need to be rooted
i think you need to back to stock froyo and then root it , use Unlock Galaxy S from the market and this free app will do the trick for you , and then flash stock gingerbread
and then you can flash anything u want ............
use superoneclick for rooting froyo stock
None of those things already posted will root gingerbread. On top of your stock rom (is it UK or Spain?), flash the CF-Root v3.3 kernel. The file goes in the PDA line of Odin (I hope you can use that program, because it can't be done through keis).

UK ROM...Thanks.
****************
Amazing!! Thanks ranger captain! Used CF-Root v3.3 to root SGT UK ROM using Odin3 v1.7 on Win 7 64, then unlocked with SGS Unlock Pro (5$ on Android Market).
Now rooted and unlocked using Rogers Sim (initially a Bell Tab).
Sweet!!
You are welcome. Glad you got it done. You will never have to unlock it again, but you might have toroot it again when you upgrade the rom, so remember what you did.
Guys,
I need help on upgrading my Galaxy Tab 7 running 2.2 Froyo which I bought quite long time ago. I plan to upgrade it to 2.3 but difficult in finding the bootloader. Can I upgrade to higher version directly instead of upgrade it to 2.3?
Please advise! Thanks
Follow my signature to overcome link.
when you get the PDF, jump to page 7.
Forget about he rooting, the bootloader check, etc.
the rooting guide is just so that you can backup.
the boot loader is included. in GB stock safe v5
Edit: I didn't notice you post in development section.
You are not developing anything, you should never start a thread in dev section.

fix
My GT-P1000 Froyo 2.2 defile all solution
I have registered in this forum to get solution to my problem please.
I have this GT-P1000 that I want to upgrade but has defiled all solution.
I have tried all the methods using z4root, DoomLord etc
but refused to get rooted.
Please what can I do more
Since I will still root the Tab when I use Overcomer
I feel I need to know how to root before I start Overcomer softwares
Are you also on froyo?
If so, then you need to root only to check if you have a locked bootloader.
Otherwise, you don't need to.
If you want to risk it, just flash GB. Many people don't have locked bootloader froyo. Just saying.

I also had a P1000 on Froyo and yesterday I upgraded to GB using Kies only. I had root on the Froyo but since I didn't touch anything related to bootlocker and whatnot, I managed to upgrade via Kies.
A minor problem is that now I don't have the new Play Store, only the old market, I'm searching in order to find a solution.
Good luck
i want to upgrade my gt-p1000 on froyo but i dont know how can you pleas help me
