try disabling usb debugging
it solved my problem
ah ha
iv got 2 things.
have you got a sd card slot in your computer and a sdcard converter thing. try sticking the card and just the sd card (take sd card out of phone but turn off phone first)
2. i think its not just the lcd that is damaged. ithink something else happend that no1 else recognized

tryed that.....think iv tryed most things.
no card reader.
as for more damage than the lcd........possibal but it was pressure on the bottom right hand side of the display that done the damage..wast droped.
so im skeptical on that one.
result!!!!!!!
booted in to xrecovery/advanced/boot usb device.
i then fired up pc companion and everthing went as normal running the repair option.
i now have my sd cards working ?????....and a boring looking x8.lol
i would have to root it again to flash with gingerbread...right??.

i couldt resist re-flashing back to find out if it would be ok..lol and it is

hey all...
i tried to put app2sd on my phone and i splited my sd card to 2 partitisions
as told
after i did the i pluged the usb out of my computer and my phone said that the sd cared is blanked (it was blanked) or damaged and asked for a format
before i formated it i pluged my usb back in and after that i cant see my sd on the computer..
the computer recognized that i plugged the phone and it even shows "android phone usb" put i cant see nothing on the removable disks
i tried to uninstall the driver and update anew adb one
and still nothing (maybe i did that wrong)
when i tried the split the sd i used a guide that some one here wrote he said to use "delete partitision" and then to make anew fat32 and another one of ext2 and then format it
i saw another guy who said the he cant see his sd after he did that...
thanks alot!
btw i use latest jf
nevermind i did it!
i just needed to assign aletter for the sd !
yay!

we can write stuff into the card in our phone, but not by connecting to the PC then choose Mass Storage / Kies to copy file over there
I can write things by taking the card out of my phone and put it in pc and copy things over but when i connect my phone to pc i can't transfer anything across.

There's a workaround. Not a good one, but at least it works. You can get full r/w access to the external sd card from within Kies, with the horrible Kies file-explorer.

Nope, the external card is still r/o when seen through USB storage in windows
tried changing the permissions in root explorer as well, no joy.
There is a easy way how to solve this. Plug in the cable, select Kies (on the phone), u dont have to run kies on your PC, after the Kies is running on your phone, on your pc there should be mobile phone connected, go there and there are both cards(in, ext) and u can use them.
i also have the same problem with the sd card :/
Hi everyone,
I am having a severe problem with my external micro sd card and I am looking for a solution. I will try to give as much info as possible here.
Last night I connected my captivate to my pc using USB mass storage. I forgot to disconnect the phone from pc and also forgot to press STOP usb mass storage on my captivate and turned my pc off. By the time I realized, it was too late. So, i disconnected the usb cable from pc. After a few seconds, the captivate's notification showed "media scanner running" as always and started scanning my internal and external SD card.
Just when it said "scanning completed", the phone became unresponsive and went straight to the splash screen. It did not completely reboot the phone but just went straight to the splash screen and turned on again. After turning on, it again started to scan the sd card as usual and the same thing happened again. It started happening again and again in cycles. So i took the battery out and restarted 3 4 times but everytime the phone started and scanned the sd cards (which it normally does) it kept going back to splash screen.
I was running mosaic 3 diet 2.3.3 rom at that time and decided to quickly flash again. So i flashed back to AT&T stock using 1-click ODIN. and everything seemed to be ok. I then, again flashed custom 2.3.3 rom using the CORRECT procedure but it started happening again. So i went back to stock using odin and everything was OK. SD card worked fine. I tried to flash custom rom couple more times with and without the sd card inserted but the issue doesnt go away. I also tried flashing 2.2 rogers STOCK but the problem is still there.
I then took my micro sd card out and that seemed to solve the problem (for custom roms). The phone started working normally again using custom rom but as soon as I inserted the sd card, it wud go back to the splash screen and do a mini restart again.
The only rom that didnt give me any problems with sd card was AT&T's 1-click odin to stock 2.1. no errors or splash screen restarts with STOCK rom.
i also tried different micro sd card but no luck. I tried formatting both internal and external sd cards too. nothing helped.
I hope i provided enough info. Please help
Thanks
can someone please help?
Have you tried mounting it in a card reader and running an fs check on it?
Sent from Planet Oa.
You could do what was started with card reader, and if that doesn't help you could format the sd card after everything is copied from it. If you don't have reader you could probably do adb to dump with phone off. I think it is pull/external.sd (not shore someone should correct me on command soon). To format it is control panel, hardware, and device managment. Then find external sd and format it. You should format with FAT32.( To mount external sd for that I think you could also do from cwm recovery.)...(if need help with any of that just pm me)
Leezrd out

It may be different on android, but on my last phone it was highly advised not to format when using the phone as a card reader. I bought a cheap USB model at Newegg for ~$5 that handles more card types than you can shake a baby at. Its proven to be well worth the cash.

Have you tried running the USB mass storage on your device again? I know Ubuntu 10.10 has a cool appliction for formatting and things like that. Ive used it before to fix something, boot it off of a disc too.
Heres some links
Ubuntu cd setup page- http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download
How to format something using Ubuntu- http://www.ehow.com/how_4929061_format-hard-drive-ubuntu.html
I would guess that the MicroSD is a FAT32...
I can and I have formatted the sd card several times. Both internal and external sd cards give me this problem.
I was able to mount usb storage once the phone started and while it was scanning my sd cards (which it usually does), i VERY QUICKLY went into settings, connected my usb to pc and mounted the sd card. The phone kept restarting(or going back to splash screen and starting again) while it was mounted. I also noticed that once it was mounted the sd card was completely accessible. i.e, i could delete/copy/transfer etc carry out all functions normally.
I formatted the sd cards using FAT32 (both internal and external too) but it didnt help.
However, after trying many times I was able to run my phone with the MOSAIC DIET III 2.3.3 rom and it has been working since then. But it doesnt work on any other rom right now, specially on Serendipity VII
The phone is working properly as it used to for now but I am afraid it will happen again when I flash another rom or go back to stock.
Any other suggestions?
Honestly, my suggestion if its under warranty us to flash back as close to stock as possible(wipe all caches, master clear, orbital nuke, etc) then take it to att, or purposefully brick it and tell them kies fubared it.

You did remember to remove your external sd card and sim when you did this, right?
I have been flashing since I've got the phone (november 2010) and I have done it numerous times. But I never took out my sim and/or external sd card while flashing any rom or while going back to stock. Never had a problem either. Maybe once or twice I did remove it but only when the intructions for a particular rom specifically asked to do so, otherwise no.
So, no I actually didnt remove the sim and sd card when I flashed back to stock.
Does it matter?
Yes, it can corrupt the sim/sdcard. it's more based on unluck of the draw. I did the flash to gb bootloaders with my sim/external in. I guess I got lucky

There will be better roms out there. Jellybean isnt ported to our X8 fully so I would say not to install Jellybean roms even ICS roms are also too buggy. Until now the best roms are based on Gingerbread like GingerDX or Kuyadroid. They are very stable and has almost all functionality. Or if you want to stick to your Jellybean then try a different rom.

Hi I have the same problem after installing the JBMP 2.0 rom.
The PC sees the SD card fine and so does a droid tablet.
Ive also reformatted it using sd format.
So im presuming this is a bug with this rom?
Cheers

Hello people on XDA.
I have a little problem here regarding installing custom rom on my littlesisters Xperia X8.
In order to do anything, I need to be able to browse the SD card.
I've downloaded File Manager from Android Market and I'm able to see the content from the SD card on the PHONE.
When I connect the phone to my PC with USB (PC Comparion installed) i get a new device called Phone Card - everything seems good... at least for now. 2GB card, allright. 127mb space left. Allright.
I open the SD Card.. and there's only a tons of SHORTCUTS.. and I can't open these. I'm not near of browsning the same SD card as I am on the phone. What the hell is wrong? No DCIM folder, which is basically the only folder I need to backup for her before flashing.
TL;DR: I can browse the SD card on the phone when not connected with USB, when connected the phone can't find the SD card nor can I browse the SD card on the PC cause it doesn't show the same content.
Any help will be appreciated.. been googling for hours!!
Thanks
Daniel
Try the sd card with a card reader or another phone and see if its ok.
If not, format it(you will lose the cotent, sorry but I don't see any other way)
If it is ok(I think it will be ok,because at the phone it doesn't have any problem) then backup what you want and format it,if you don't want to format it then just put what you need to install a custom rom and put the sd back to x8
