lib*.so files from Cyanogen7 to Nova v8 - How??? - LG Optimus Black

hi,
i would like to ask if is possible to use lib*.so files from CM7 Rom in Nova v8 Rom? I tried to unzip CM7 Rom Lib* files using them in Nova Rom, but the new zipped Nova Rom with CM7 files is un-bootable.
I'm asking because my Monsoon Vulkano player is working only with CM7 rom...but this Rom has too many bugs and i want better use Nova v8...
Can someone help me please?
Many thanks.

it's possible, but you can't use it directly, you need source to build it to suitable nova

thanks for advice, but its not clear for me. Can you please better tell me how can i make it? There is some manual for it?
Thanks you very much.

AFAIK, it's depend with the kernel (compiled kernel), so it won't compatible...
CMIIW.

Request tun.ko for Lg Optimus 2X v20l

Hi everyone,
I need tun/tap driver to get openvpn working. I know some kernel/rom have that, like CM, neoblaze, djdroid etc. But I want to keep stock kernel with stock rom because I have tried every roms and the stock one satisfies me the best! But it only lacks tun driver !
Can somebody compile a tun.ko file working with the stock rom and kernel? Thank you.
I've tried and I don't think it's possible. tun.ko requires the kernel to export the symbol "outer_cache" which it does not. (only tegra kernel seems to be missing this as default...). It's an easy fix, but to use the generated module you would have to replace the kernel as well (to one that exports the required symbol)
Thank you for you answer.
I have tried to do that too and wasted 2 hours. I wonder if I do it right. I downloaded not the aosp kernel but the v20l kernel source from http://www.lg.com/global/support/opensource/opensource-detail.jsp?detailCustomerModelCode=LGP990. I used this tutorial http://stevechui.blogspot.com/2011/10/compiling-kernel-modules-tunko-for.html. But the Lg sources doesn't include the tegra folder.
ergoen, you seem to say that you managed to create a tun.ko file with a slightly modified stock kernel ? That would be what I search for.
just flash spica HP kernel SR2 and if you want flash the PP7. it does support tun.ko and cifs.ko already tried. good luck if you want to try (in his kernel it's not module but it's on built in driver)
i use vpn to my office with vpnc connection and it good to go
here is the link if you want to download vpnc connection
Code:
http://code.google.com/p/get-a-robot-vpnc/downloads/list
just download the vpnc connection.apk don't download anything else in there
Or try the Modaco custom kernel r26 with GR5. You can get a nearly stock phone with that.

It's not possible to keep stock kernel and just add the modules as if... You have to recompile the whole kernel and flash it... So why doing this as other kernel based in stock sources are available? Install SR2 kernel from spica and it will be perfect. A you perhaps... Know if you change only kernel it won't affect your /system, so you ROM will be stock like...
Don't waste time trying to make things that have already been made and working.

Because I tested other kernels and even if there are lots of improvement authors do, there are some bugs they introduce (ex: neoblaze => tethering not working, thanatos 4.2 => mybackuppro not working, cm7 => hdmi partialy working, djdroid => changements I don't like, etc) or changements I don't like. That's why I like the principle of using the stock rom/kernel as long as everything works.
I don't know about spica kernel, it's the only one I've not tried with swiftextreme. I will try it maybe later because restoring apps takes some time.

Flashing kernel doesn't touch /data you don't need to restore apps.
NeoBlaze seems not working with 20L. swiftextreme works only with CM7.

[Q] am having CM7 (nightly20) &Novav11 kernel. CAN I OVERCLOCK???...if so, how??

am running the latest CM7 release for the black and also the latest NOVA kernel. my question is
"CAN I OVERCLOCK???...IF SO, HOW EXACTY???"....can any of you great guys give me some detailed information on how to overclock the black EXACTLY????..awaiting your response eagerly.
P.S.-> i used the search tool but i didn't find the step by step guide for overclocking CM7 Op. Black. so, please don't flame if i reposted
You can't find it, because it doesn't exist yet. If you had read the nova kernel thread past few pages, aprold already mentioned that he is working over it but hasn't succeeded yet.
So, the only way till now is NOVA ROM (froyo), which supports the overclocking.

You are confused with NovaROM and NovaKERNEL. The latter is a kernel for CM7. Please always read the thread tittle and OP. It will indicate what it is, what they are, and what they are for.

ooh, I seems about to get it.
so if I want to use NOVA ROM, what I need is just kernel for NOVA V11?
I mean, in recovery mod, I just choose the NOVA zip after factory reset and wipe cache?
if so CM#20 is kernel for CM7 do i still need to put that CM#20 in my sdcard and choose it on recovery?
IMO, when I wipe all data and partition cache, then Nova Kernel will have no firmware, 'cause when I download nova kernel, it's just 5MB but the CM#20 is 100MB. and when i see inside the zip, CM#20 contain app, bin, etc, framework, font, lib, media, tts, usr, vendor, xbin. but in Nova just contain app, bin, etc, lib, xbin.

u r all messed up!!!!....in a summary:
1. NOVA V8 is a ROM.
2. NOVA KERNEL (latest V11) is NOT for the NOVA OR STOCK ROM...it is for CM#20 nightly build.
3. In Stock ROM, u can flash another kernel called "QUASAR" kernel.
now, for applying a kernel, u need to flash the ROM FIRST and then FLASH THE KERNEL. u don't need to do a factory reset if u flash a kernel but u should do a factory reset if u flash a ROM....
hope this helps

Ah my friend, you still don't get it. Let me put it this way
(NovaROM (NovaV8) / CM7 nightly#20 / LG Stock 2.2 Froyo) = are ROMs
(Quasar (NovaROMv8) / NovaKERNEL v11) = are KERNELS
Nova v8 (ROM) contains a custom KERNEL called Quasar, and it is based on stock 2.2 Froyo. All-in-One.
CyanogenMod 7 (CM7) is Gingerbread AOSP based. It has Nightly#0-#20 and few RC0 compiled by members. We have custom KERNELS for it, NovaKERNEL v1-v11, HuexxxKERNEL v1-v4.
In short, NOVAKERNELS SHOULD ONLY BE USED with CM7 and in some instances with stock Gingerbread (Tested with V20a, V20l, Marquee). You cannot combine NOVAKERNEL with NOVA8 (ROM). Please read more what's the difference of ROM and KERNEL.

yes...let's hope so :\
Yes you can expect the feature on v12 but be patient

If you have the knowledge you could always compile something yourself, but I guess very few of us do so I recommend waiting for the upcoming V12 version of the kernel wich is said to have the overclock feature.

[MOD] [CM7] Use Custom Kernel's with latest CM7 Nightlies

Back in February, there were some updates to CM7 that broke using custom kernels. The last nightly that worked with custom kernels was #58. After some digging around, I found out that it is the graphics lib's that cause the problem.
This mod replaces the graphics driver lib's in your CM7 rom with an older version that is compatible with custom kernels such as Nova.
WARNING: DO NOT use this mod with Huexx's new 4.1 kernel or with a new stock cm7 kernel.
Tested and working fine on Temasek #62 with Nova 11c.
To Install:
1. Flash CM7 rom
2. Flash P970-CM7-UseCustomKernel-MOD
3. Flash custom kernel
4. Power off, wait 5 seconds, power on (if you choose reboot from cwm, occasionally it will lock at the LG logo. If this happens, pull the battery then power on again. Powering off avoids this bug).
Enjoy.
Update: This seems only to be working with Nova 11c at the moment. Use that one until I can find a workaround for the others.
Update2: I just got Nova v7 working using Apold's Kernel Injector, so the problem was obviously with the ramdisk. This process is a bit more complicated, so I'm going to mod Nova v7 and Huexx's v4 kernels, then post modded working versions of those. If anyone wants one of the other versions, please let me know.
The process to do it yourself is:
1. Unzip kernel
2. Use Racer Kitchen v2 to separate the ramdisk and kernal http://android.modaco.com/topic/340710-tool-edit-bootimg/
3. Use kernel injector from Nova 11c and mod the installation script as necessary, including the older graphics lib's.
Update 3: Uploaded a modified Nova v7 CFS to work with the latest CM7 nightlies. This should also work with cwm touch (confirmation required). To Install:
1. Flash any CM7 rom
2. Flash P970-CM7_NovaKernel_v07_CFS-Modded_for_latest_CM7.zip
3. Reboot (If it locks at the LG logo, pull the battery, it should work fine second time).
Please note that I cannot fix bugs in this kernel, there is no source. Use it as it is, or don't use it. Thanks to Knzo for this brilliant kernel, thanks to Apold for his fantastic kernel injector.
For more info on the Nova Kernel, please check the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276645
Update 4: Uploaded a modified Huexx v4 kernel to work with the latest CM7 nightlies. This should also work with cwm touch (confirmation required). To Install:
1. Flash any CM7 rom
2. Flash P970-CM7_HuexxxKernel_V4-Modded_for_latest_CM7.zip
3. Reboot (If it locks at the LG logo, pull the battery, it should work fine second time).
Please note that I cannot fix bugs in this kernel. Use it as it is, or don't use it. Thanks to Huexx for this brilliant kernel, thanks to Apold for his fantastic kernel injector. Huexx said a few days ago that if he has time, he'll port his Diana Kernel to CM7. Three cheers for Huexx!
For more info on the Huexx Kernel, please check the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332311
Update 5: For modded Nova v11c kernel, please use re4lsk's in the Nova Kernel thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24074871&postcount=1100 Thanks re4lsk.
Update 6: WARNING:
This mod is for use with old kernels only, such as Nova v7, Nova v11c or Huexx's v4, using it with a new kernel with brick it, requiring flashing through smartflash.
DO NOT use this mod with Huexx's new 4.1 kernel or with a new stock cm7 kernel.
What if we add that mod to Nova kernel zip and change the updater script?

That should work fine. If your going to do that, then you might want to mod the updater script to work with cwm touch as well.
Maybe if they had published their sources someone could add the latests commits done to the CM7 kernel and recompile the kernel.
I really don't know much about code, but i'll try to make Nova compatible.

Moded nova kernel
Compatible to cm, now I'm in RC1, but yeah that will make it available for all cm based roms, and ssince Nova is not my work, if it works I'll publish it inside Nova thread.
Well. I've made it, now i need someone to test this

Custom kernels offer better performance/battery/stability than the stock CM7 kernel. They offer lots of mods/tweaks to make things better. Stock CM7 kernel is more a general kernel, designed to run on multipy devices with minimum changes.
There are two custom kernels for CM7 on our Optimus Black:
Nova Kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276645
Huexx's Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332311

No. It looks like he has added my mod into the nova kernal installation script. If it works, then you need to flash CM7, then the modded nova.
This is not really necessary, the whole point of this mod is to easily allow flashing any custom kernel on any CM7 rom. Combining this mod and nova will save you a couple of seconds flashing time in cwm, nothing more.

Kernel for Hackdroid Sense Floyo (2.2.5) 1.0b?

Hi.
I found this awesome, oldschool htc sense, rom that i want to flash. I only have one question, what kernel should i use it with?
The answer is easy: because the rom is older than the first custom kernel, you need to use stock kernel.
Theoretically it can be work with alfs/linuxdx too, but need some work (like the alfs addon for froyopro)
