[Q] Fennec / Firefox Mobile - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

Hi,
does anybody know if Firefox Mobile / Fennec runs on Nook Simple Touch? (bit.ly/fennecftp)
Thanks.

I know that it does not. The only one that works fine is opera mini, and dolphin mini works quite right - the problem is that if you type the url and press go, it doesn't work, but if you search on google and click the link, it works fine. Sort of a letdown.

Why Opera?

I have Opera on my Kaiser. 26 days to go for free.
But I have problems being motivated to buy the version.
Anybody an opinion?
Have no problems with IE till now. But maybe I am missing some important features.
Huib
Have you tried "Opera Mini" ?
If not, try it, you will never go back to IE
It is super fast, very compact, and works, also with that neat zoom/unzoom!.
Again, the browsing and rendering speed of Opera Mini is superb.
Drag and scroll.
Highlight and copy text
Save images
Successfully renders web pages more frequently than does the IE - IMHO

Try scrolling down a long page with PIE and you will know why Opera Mini is better. PIE almost grinds to a halt after the first screen or two has scrolled up.
EDIT: Update to above entry. PIE now has a fix for scrolling issue - downloadable here: IE Slow Scroll Fix for Kaiser_Tilt.cab

Gotcha!
Tested them both with a longer page and the difference is clear.
Thanks for your input.

Hi!
can Opera-mini and other apps be run from the memory card satisfactorily?
i.e are they slower?
I wonder if my other applications such as Resco Explorer 2007 and Code Wallter can be run from the card too?
Ofiaich
Don't take what I say as gospel but when I had Opera installed on the SD card it didn't function completely correct - like didn't follow email links correctly along with a couple of other glitches etc.
Likewise I have always been a bit hesitant to install things that operate so cloely with the OS, like Resco Explorer, to the card. They have always seemd to work much better on the main memory. Just my opinion.
Thus I have Opera mini and Resco Explorer installed on the main memory while just about everything else I have on the SD card.
jcrompton!
Thanks very much! Sounds good to me, and I have space in the main memory!
I will get on and download Opera mini !

Opera Can Handle Regular Youtube!
Please Dont quote me on this, but if i am correct, Opera (paid version, not mini) can render many types of complicated flash websites including Youtube(Yes the regular one not youtube mobile). I say this because i tested it for myself, a while ago on my mda vario or vario 2 (sorry cant remember). What seemed to be a slight problem though was, it ran out of memory frequently (ram) and as such the program would not start if other applications were running in the background.
Opera users on WM6, your reviews and thoughts on this are much appreciated!

OK - so I just figured out how to get Opera Mini work via the Java app under programs -- have you been able to get email links and other http links to automatically be opened by Opera Mini - I made some registry changes to get Opera Mobile to be the default browser, can you get Opera Mini to do that ? (wasn't sure since it is buried as a Java program)

Well you asked for it. I am going to have to quote you. Youtube does not work on my 8925 in Opera, neither the moble specific version (says media file type not supported) nor the full youtube site. Ugh.
I agree that you wouldn't really want to use Opera Mini on the Kaiser....Opera Mobile though is the bomb! I just wish it was free like the Mini version is, but it's good enough to pay for anyway. PIE just is not very good at rendering most webpages.
opera is very good browser but the built in pie some times show websites better than opera example http:\\www.xda-developers.com

I don't agree , it's superbly fast, it's free and it has good viewing settings. For straightforward surfing it's fine. I say give it a try you may be surprised.

I just hit YouTube with Opera on mine and any 'watch now' links open the video for streaming in WMP. Is that normal?

Logmein

Has anyone got Logmein working on their Kaiser?
I did but then had to hard reset and cannot get it working...
I have. It works great on my v1615. I tried it with Opera but it only works with Pocket Internet Explorer
Works fine on my Vario 3.

IE doesnt let me use the stylus to scroll around the screen and zoom in and out.
It seems clunky.

Opera Browser issue

Hi everybody. I'm having a weird Opera Browser issue. I got Opera for mobile but it simply doesn't respond to the touch screen! Also, when I go to settings, I can't click any setting, it simply doesn't respond. Any idea?
Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling? Which version did you install?

I have never seen such an issue with opera ... As suleeto suggested an un-install and re-install is a good start but what do you have installed on your phone as well . maybe a conflict with another program And I believe I have tried almost every version including all betas of opera.
DId you down load the right one for PPC and not smartphone (maybe)?
Opera
As far as I know it won't even install unless it's the right OS. I got Opera Mobile v8.65 ppc.

What does Skyfire have that Opera hasn't got? I personally think the new version of Opera (on the Diamond) is great for web browsing.

@ bagamyanaleks
you can install this cab.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394278
internet browsing doesn´t work without registration (which is not possible for your country at the moment)
but you can start skyfire and see if it´s displayed correct on diamond vga screen.
hope that help
Its not even starts. Just crash at starting.

[Relatively] Stable Browsers

I have encountered the annoying browser glitch with text box's. And in my search for stable browsers, I have found a few results. Aside from the awesome Opera Mobile, I have found these to work rather nicely:
Ninesky Browser:
I haven't played around with this one too much, I only really checked to make sure it didn't crash. But the layout is nice enough, not too cluttered.
Maxthon Mobile Browser:
This one was the only one so far that allowed me to utilize FimFiction.net's archive search. Opera Mobile and others would either refuse to load or crash the browser. This browser also has an interesting active gesture system, which allows you to temporarily see the result of your finger swipes. However I find this to be more of a pain, as it is hard to always get the browser to move around when it is interpreting every swipe I make. I also couldn't figure out a way to zoom in and out.
Browsers I have found to either crash or not work very well at this time are: Miren, Dolphin, Boat, Bolt, xScope, and Skyfire.
That is the scope of my search so far. If anyone knows of any other stable browsers, I would be happy to learn about them .
I'm using opera mini. Worked fine. Tried several others, with poor results. Dolphin almost made it, but the url bar does not work (can't type your own url, only coming from search or another site)
hi,
the dolphin HD or dolphin mini browser crashed? I would like use the dolphin mini, it's possible and stable?
thank you
Both had problem at the url bar, and both had some minor crashes. Doesn't look that good anyway. Opera mini still rules.
Probably any browser based or that uses the default webkit will not work.
text only browser
hi,
text only browser work on nook?
ex: market.android.com/details?id=com.spacenext.textonly
like kindle article mode.
thank you
Opera works great for me.
I finaly found a browser that can use volume keys to scroll and (so far) seems stable. It's called Galapagos browser. Doesnt compare very good to Opera otherwise, but scrolling with keys is a big help on eink screen.
xScope
I use xScope Pro ($2.99, lite version available). You can use the volume keys to scroll (remapped my side buttons on the NST), change the standard font size to be bigger and change the theme to an all black one. Only problem I've had so far is logging into reddit.com causes it to crash for whatever reason. I think it's permission related, going to poke around on the command line later.

I've tried several browsers but only opera mini made it, it has poor scrolling but after a while you get used to it

"Exsoul Browser" seems to be working fine.
EDIT : It does not =_=. Sorry for useless post.

Opera mini, and or opera mobile. Also, they can be configured for high contrast browsing. (editing global CSS file)
I've been having the best luck with Opera Mini. Pages load very, very fast, and scrolling is remarkably responsive if you turn on NoRefresh Toggle.
I had high hopes for Dolphin Mini, but it doesn't seem very happy on the Touch.

B&N (intentionally?) broke webkit on the Nook, so yeah, Dolphin won't work.
"Maxthon Mobile Browser For Android"
seems to be working more than fine + it plays Flash animation with the plugin installed.
EDIT:
Probably the best replacement for Opera Mobile there is.

But can it use a user defined CSS file, for high contrast browsing?
Nope.
In Maxthon you can use the "WAP mode" to remove all of the pages formatting thus creating a high contrast site.
You can also turn on a "negative mode" to inverse all of the colors.
This NoRefresh makes me quite happy with the achieved contrast.
Opera "New" 7.0
I tried the Opera "New". It only crashes, so I'm reluctant to upgrade Opera mini 6.something.
Update "New" to 7.0.1 also crashes on launch.

I would like to know how to set up the user css. Couldn't find any mention of it for the mobile versions, only full version.
