So I have a rooted stock KG3. Can I apply a lagfix without flashing a new ROM?
If I have to use a non-stock kernel, which should I go with?

I'm currently using cog 2.3b2. I'd like to have hsupa but only i9000 kernal and modem from setiron supports it. How do I flash a setiron's kernal and use cognitions rom? I'm familiar with using cwm and odin. Would I flash the kernal first then the rom on top of it all using cwm?

My brother has a new captivate but does not want to flash a new rom, crazy i know. But he does like the snappy way my phone runs. Can some one tell me and point me to if possible the newest lagfix that can be installed on stock froyo.

Having the lagfix will require a flash. the lag fix is built into the custom kernel.
Any way that the voodoo lagfix can be flashed to his stock kernel so that the only thing modded is the lagfix?

I believe you can flash kernel on stock but it will be through odin. You could always check AdamOutler's video about flashing UrsaMinor. Will also get you rid of the signature failed on 2.2

If I want to root my Galaxy S running on 2.3.4 JVQ or JVR, how can I do it? I don't want to upload kernels which will bring me additional functionality, I want only to root my phone and that's it.
Is there any way to root it except to upload kernels which have implemented root + other functionalities?
Thanks.
Just look for cf-root. These kernels are stock just added with root and nothing else.
I am not so sure since most users experienced bluetooth malfunction after flashing CF-Root.

Root it with cf-root and then flash back the stock kernel. Works perfect.

Look for Ramad's stock rooted firmwares in the development section I think. They have stock everything with root, superuser and busybox 19.0. they're also deodexed and zipaligned, they run great.

Check out this app SuperOneClick Root.
Hi all,
I am wondering if someone will be able to clarify for me.
I have got the Darky 10.2.2 final and I want to install the Latest JVS from SamFirmware.
Will this okay or will this be dangerous? I just want to put it back to Stock and then root it using chainFire CF "Our Legend".
I am planning to just flash on top of the current Darky on the Phone.
Hope this make sense.
I am using ODIN and I have got JIG for download mode.
Thanks guys.
I went from Darky 10.2 to JVS (and then semaphore kernel) no problems..
I had no need to use a jig.

Thanks for the reply.
I am not too familiar with I9000.
Do i need to install the ext4 from CF afterwards? For the lag fix?
Reason i ask is because i noticed that CF has the addon file available for download.
Cheers
It's always a good idea to revert to rfs before flashing a new firmware (in case the kernel doesn't support ext4; i don't think stock jvs does).
Otherwise shouldn't be a problem
Flashed stock rom with pit included. Now using latest. Seems to be ojay. Dont think i will need lag fix
Cheers

The bootloaders on stock Gingerbread ROMs are already unlocked, to the best of my knowledge. If you're still on Froyo, just find a region-appropriate stock GB ROM on SamFirmware.com.
