[Q] Need AT&T Connection Manager - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all... I updated my AT&T galaxy tab to 2.3.3 and the thing is really way better than before... one thing missing though is the att app (AT&T Connection Manager) which allows you to buy 3G data by the block. Chased down several leads and came up short. Just need an apk or something to get the data flowing on this machine.
Thanks!

Rogers - Xperia X1

Hey guys,
For the longest time I've been on Fido with a unlocked (direct from sony X1a). I've never had any problems with it at all. Everything worked flawless.
Recently I setup a corporate plan with Rogers. Ended up getting a bunch of Xperia X1s at a discounted rate since I signed a 3 year on a swack of lines...
Anyways I got the Xperias, turns out Rogers like to charge for VPN access. I added it to all the devices.
After setting up the VPN.com apn on the new rogers (rogers firmware) Xperia X1s, I noticed that everything worked except simple web page browsing (in both browsers). No errors, just loaded completely blank pages. When changing apn back to internet.com everything worked fine.
From this behavior I went ahead and checked the config on the device, no proxies were configured anywhere.
I asked the Rogers guy, currently it's bumped up to Tier 2 support and noone knows anything, they denied any "hidden proxies".
I'm now waiting for a call back from Tier 2 to further troubleshoot the issue. While I've waiting, I went ahead and started fishing through the registry. I found a bunch of very odd registry entries pertaining to proxies...
After removing these "odd" proxy registry keys, all of a sudden I can now use web browsing without ANY issues.
Does anyone know exactly how many registry keys are affected? Isn't this a huge security hole? Who is looking at the proxy info?
I had posted about this very same matter about an year ago. No matter how much they deny hidden proxies, they are in place. Interestingly enough - they are not mandatory, but are enforced for Windows Mobile Rogers phones. After hitting the wall pretty much on everything I tried (and no responses here on XDA either), I ended up installing generic US rom (no need of HardSPL or anything), where you can bypass connection wizard and set connection settings manually (wizard is the thing that messes up things and makes VPN.com useless). On the stock Rogers rom there is no way you can bypass connection wizard.
Once you set everything manually, there is no problem whatsoever with using vpn.com except for rogers.mobi page not being able to recognize you and provide account information (not hugely important to me, at all..).
So what happens is you turn the Rogers branded X1a into unbranded X1a (like your original one) and viola - everything works (as long as you don't use connection wizard to setup the connections)
thanks for the response!
After removing those 4 registry keys it's working like a charm!
So I don't need to HardSPL the phone to install the latest X1a US rom? I do alot of crazy stuff with WM phones, but I never eff with the hardware (as I usually always buy unlocked phones).
By the way, with the auto-config, if you go into settings, then connections, and goto the auto-config program, the "menu" on the bottom right you can hit, and then uncheck "Enable auto config" and it stops it from populating the typical rogers settings on every boot.
I used it to configure MMS, and internet, then disable auto-config (left the existing settings), changed the apn from internet.com to vpn.com then removed the registry settings mentioned above, and all is good
I still am thinking about maybe going to the generic firmware though as it is slightly a newer version. Anyone know any differences?
One thing I want to mention is the interwebz (spelling is a joke) is WAY effin faster using rogers phone on rogers network. Fido was HORRIBLE compared to this.
Just curious, how would you install the Generic US firmware WITHOUT SPL?
Thanks
Stephen
bump bump!
hey i was just wondering, seeing that you have the Xperia x1 unlocked on Fido. Since Rogers Wireless owns Fido wouldn't that mean if i buy the Xperia x1 right now i can use it on fido without needing to unlock it?

Way way back after the acquisition I think I heard they would offer unlock codes if you switched, but I don't think that's the case anymore.
Even though they are owned by same company, they are still separate networks...

you should be able to flash any stock rom when you are on stock spl, either via customruu or sd
never tried it but can't think of anything to hinder doing it

[Q] SGH-1747 mobile data connection problems

Hey guys,
First of all, sorry but I'm a complete newbie with this phone, however I've tried to do the necessary research and I think i've hit a block. First of all, my phone is a SGH-1747 (from the title) Samsung Galaxy s III 4G LTE or just Samsung Galaxy s III LTE which is network unlocked with original carrier being AT&T. I updated the phone to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 via Samsung Kies and everything went smoothly. It was originally my aunt's and I asked her to ship it to me here in Australia. So my current provider is Vodafone Australia and yes I do have a micro sim and can use the phone for almost everything except for the problem that I'm experiencing.
Okay so firstly I thought my problem was that everything I go on google play store via my mobile data (not WIFI), I was unable to update / download certain apps and it would give me a "package file is invalid" error. I've done researched tried clearing cache, cookies, data but nothing seemed to work. I also thought it might be something to do with only unable to download apps that are a certain size, seeing as I could download SOME smaller apps (like google apps updates, but not all) but it got to the point where I tried accessing apps that require an internet connection, and it won't load because of error "not connected to internet or you might be disconnected". At all times I am able to access the internet via internet browser and even search for apps via google play store. I also thought it might be app-related, so i tried different apps, no bingo. I can however download all these apps / updates when I am connected to WIFI at my house, can even access the games. Also thought it might be related to Vodafone not supporting 4G so I tried to change around the network modes but It didn't really make much of a difference... I've also tried factory resetting many times with no bingo.
So now i'm at the point where I don't know what's wrong with it. Do you guys have any ideas? Even vodafone people were unable to find a solution after spending about an hour trying to fix it with them.
This forum is for the i9300, nothing on here will work with your phone

[Q] Switch from htc arrive wp7 to Samsung Ativ wp8

Gotta switch but, I was wondering if 2 things are available in wp8 for sprint. 1- Is there any restriction for downloads and is there free Internet sharing. I realize this question is redundant but I keep getting different answers.
I can't speak for Sprint specifically, but in general...
The restrictions for downloads (I assume you mean things like "apps over 20MB must be downloaded over WiFi" or some such thing) should be the same as on WP7. In theory it's possible for us to override those restrictions, although I don't think anybody has yet written an app to do it.
The built-in "Internet Sharing" feature works exactly like it does on WP7. If your Arrive is allowed to do it, your Ativ S Neo will be too.
thanks
Let me explain. Sprint charges for WiFi hot spot usage. With Leads rom on my arrive I am able to use internet sharing for free. I guess my main concern about a switch is whether I can do this still for free. Thanks
If you don't see anything here, its because it hasn't been found yet. I'm trying to find the same for Verizon, but LTE has made a mess of things. The Android gurus won't help either...
I hope a internet sharing/hotspot solution is available for Sprint.
I'm eligible for upgrade March 1st, and was going to get the Ativ S Neo just for a change of pace. Been using Android for 3 or 4 years now, the last windows phone I had was a Touch Pro 2.
Not a deal breaker, but I do use hotspot fairly regularly to get around works firewall...
Some people are experimenting with partially-customized ROMs for the Ativ S (no idea if they've gotten to the Neo yet; it's relatively new). Those *might* support the kinds of changes needed for free tethering.
Alternatively, you may be able to use wired tethering for free via the Diagnosis app. I can (my plan includes tethering at no extra cost, but it is capped; when I use wired tethering it doesn't report any tethered data usage).

CDMA Tethering has changed these days. They have built in "entitlement checks" to see if your eligible for tethering. I went to one of the Verizon device threads and asked but no luck.
The device username is the only thing listed. On another note, Verizon's USB modems seem to talk directly through a Networking Adapter instead of a normal modem. Their VZManager might need looked at more.
Sprint might be different OTOH.

[Q] A few simple Qs re the S6

1. Am I right that there is no way to make an ethernet connection to it? Google comes up blank. My Galaxy T700 8.4" tablet can do it, using the Samsung adapter cable (2xUSB, ethernet, power) but on the S6 only the 2xUSB works.
2. After writing some files to a flash stick plugged into a USB OTG cable (e.g. the above one) how long is it before the files are finally closed? It is suggested to unmount the USB device (in the stock file manager I assume) but that is so "1990s" Even windows XP doesn't need to do that.
3. Is there any functionality to send/receive SMS when there is no apparent GSM connection, only WIFI? After discarding a few SMS apps (mainly because they had no retries on failed sends - a real issue in UK countryside where we have poor signal) I am now using Smitten SMS which does seem to do retries. But also it has managed to send SMSs when I didn't see any signal! I did a lot of googling and could not find anything apart from cryptic references to Google Voice. I am well aware of the issues in doing texts over the internet (the phone doesn't know its # so CLI cannot work unless you configure that somewhere - the Apple I-message features needs that; no way to route the reply IF it is sent to the GSM network which is why I-message works only between two Iphones and only if both have an internet connection).
THANK YOU in advance for any information.
Great phone, BTW. Here
http://peter-ftp.co.uk/808/S6-v-808/
is a comparison of the S6 with the Nokia 808, and of two S6 camera apps.
My phone is rooted, BTW.
Is there anybody in this forum?

Package installer uninstalled WiFi from galaxy s8

Hello all, i have a weird problem. Actually my mom does. Her samsung galaxy s8 has no wifi app anymore due to the package installer suddenly uninstalling it from her phone. She cant even begin to connect to wifi, update her phone, apps, none of it. Shes even done a factory reset and its still missing as if the phone never came with wifi capability. All shes got is slow cricket data plan and before she did have wifi on her phone. Like if she goes to settings>apps, and scrolls down there should be one called Wi-Fi, but its gone. Ive checked and this is an app that my phones have so whats the deal?? Theres a possibility shes been hacked but i dont know how large a probability it is.. Thanks for any help in figuring this out!!
