Hey guys, today is a sad day.
My screen suffered a 1.5m fall and landed on its sexy front.
I want to fix it, by myself, I just don't really know what to buy.
I'm not sure if it's the digitizer I need to replace or the AMOLED screen itself, or even both.
I also need you to please tell me where to buy this stuff from.
Basically, phone works fine, touch works fine but there are artifacts on the screen, or cracks. I'm really not sure.
Here are some pictures that will hopefully illustrate the downfall of my N1:

I can't see the pictures at work, but if the AMOLED/SLCD screen is cracked, it will eventually go black (usually starts pink where the cracks are, then it will slowly fade to a dark purple as it spreads eventually leading to a solid black screen where you can't see anything).
If the digitizer is broken, it is the outer screen. When mine broke, the screen still worked fine (even over the cracks), but I could feel the cracks with my finger. Both are replaceable, but if both are broken, it may not be worth the money to do it. The AMOLED screens and digitizer, I believe, both go for around $90 each plus shipping.
I believe HTC will repair a cracked AMOLED screen for around $110, and they even offer an advanced exchange.
Well, judging by your description, I'd say its definitely the screen thats broken. Screen started out as you said and by now its practically unusable. Black screen.
There are cracks, the touch, as I previously said, is fine, and I can't feel the cracks with my fingers so I'm guessing the digitizer is intact.
I ended up ordering the screen off of ebay, going to do it myself. Hopefully, it would turn out to be the right decision.

So bascially I drop my phone (2 feet off the ground) and it crack the screen.
Everything still works fine, only the glass is broken.
My question is I found LCD replacement on ebay for around $120~.
So if I replace that, is not an OLED anymore?!

I think I found the exact one and I'm pretty sure that is a SAMOLED just named incorrectly I don't think anyone would make a LCD screen for a captivate... but if so a SAMOLED would be well worth it over LCD
if its the screen for a cappy it is the right part and will be the same.
I see thanks,
Just debaiting if I should bother fixing it.
Dont really want to spend the $130~ for a DIY I'm not really comfortable with.
Anyone know some cheaper place for parts.
Contract ending in few months.
Going to switch to another provider which I can get a new phone.
I don't know anywhere you might be able to get one cheap mostly because it's the screen I imagine you can't really buy one that wasn't from a different captivate and since you're about to switch and get a new phone I'd live with it haha it's not worth that much money if you don't plan to use it much anymore
Is the screen and front glass one piece? It looks like the screen under the glass is fine.
I agree that there probably isn't a LCD for the captivate.

I believe I dropped my Nexus One while I was drunk and damaged the AMOLED screen. This is what the damage looks like:
img.photobucket . com/albums/v332/twylo/Photoon2011-06-19at1151.jpg
(apologies, don't have enough posts)
I don't believe the digitizer is damaged because I can still feel the haptic feedback, such as when I slide the lock across and it gives a little buzz when it unlocks, home button etc. Just the screen is damaged. I'm assuming that it isn't a loose connection and that I actually broke the screen. I'm just not sure which replacement LCD to get. I know there is the original AMOLED, and then the Sony version, but am I restricted to one since I (think) have the AMOLED? I would like to stay with the original AMOLED if I could. Any help would be appreciated, need to get my phone back up and running as soon as I can!
Thanks
from what i know, if you get it replaced by htc, it will probably be a slcd screen as samsung is churning out s/amoled as fast as they can and not everybody is on the priority list. slcd is supposedly better on battery life but still can't match the blacks/contrast of the amoled screen.
I'm in the same boat here. Figured I'd just post in the same thread since it looks like we have the exact same problem.
This is my phone now:

The touch screen works and the glass is not cracked the glass is cracked, I can tell if the phone is off and look carefully.
I can still see parts of the image. I'm looking on ebay for parts but I'm not really sure what's what.
Does anyone know how long it will take and how much it will cost to get it repaired by HTC? Will they only do it if it's under warranty?
My phone is the ATT model too which complicates things, some auctions on ebay mention a difference between models.
But it took it like a champ. Brand New AT&T LTE 8.9. I was taking it into the AT&T store to get a sim card, and while getting out of the truck, I grabbed the box, but the opening was facing away from me, and the Tab simply beat me out of the truck. Face down onto the pavement from about 5'.
Thank GOD it still had the protective plastic still on the front and the rear. All I ended up with was a two chipped up corners.
I was sure the screen was going to be cracked when I heard it smack face down. First time EVER dropping a tablet.
Update...

A couple chips sucks but much better than a cracked screen. These tabs look to be pretty solid as far as i can tell. Maybe pick a case up that'll cover the corners.

Yea, doesn't bother me too much. I'm just very picky when it comes to my electronics. I like everything pristine!
i know what you mean. i can be pretty anal about mt electronics too. glad to hear nothing bad happened though.
I used this watch for few months
Since I think it is very annoying to charge it every one to two day, I just haven't used it for a long period
Recently ,I wanted to use it again
So I pick it up from the box
I find there are some purple dots on the screen
I think it is cause by water?
I want to know how to fix it
Thank you
There is the pic of my watch

burned pixels
I've got four of them at the top of my screen. Can only see them on white background so I'm not too fussed.
i bought a used G watch R from ebay.... and it also has 8 purple spots on the top left of the screen... i already figured they were dead pixels.... but wow, seems its more common that i thought
Had a couple on the top left of my screen. Under warranty, so contacted LG and they replaced.
I have the spots too. It started with one, now I have several. I also have a glass screen protector on my watch.
Might the screen protector caused them to appear? Do you guys have a screen protector on yours? Thanks!
No glass on mine. I did have a plastic protector, but the circles were present from the very beginning. They did not spread over time, but remained until I decided to get a warranty replacement.
...mine is on the way to the service again. Last year i had several dots wich was repaired under warranty, now the next dots. I contacted the LG Service and they send me a RMA number....now im waiting for news...
I have the opportunity to buy a Nexus 6 that's working perfectly but has a broken screen for only 35 bucks. I'm a bit concerned looking at the Craigslist pic of the damage though. It looks to me like a bit of what's under the glass might be broken too but I'm not really sure. I'd certainly like a solid foundation to stick a new digitizer to. I'm hoping someone who has seen that part of the phone before can weigh in on this for me. If it's just more trouble waiting to happen I'll want to pass on it. Take a look at the pic and tell me what you think please...

Safest bet is to do digitizer and glass as one assembly rather than glass only replacement
Thanks but the phone was already sold when I woke up today. I agree that replacing the whole assembly is safest, but if I could afford that I would just find a whole phone that doesn't need the work.
LCD and Digitizer is like every other modern phone on the market, they are bonded together so you cannot just replace the digitizer. Sure you can buy the digitizer online but due to the bonding process they use during manufacturing the LCD will break trying to take them apart. Unless of course you have specialized equipment just for breaking the bond, then you would need bout half a million dollars in equipment to liquid optically bond them back together. Cheaper to just buy a whole new display
