[Q] Overcome ROM based on 2.3.7 ? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any plans of updating the code base to 2.3.7 for Overcome ROM ?
I know ICS is on it's way, but before we can get the ICS code base to start working, updating the code base to 2.3.7 might be a big improvement.
Cheers,

The Overcome ROMs are based on stock Samsung firmwares.
Without a 2.3.7 release from Samsung (very unlikely), there will be no new (2.3.7 based) Overcome ROM.
I know ICS is on it's way, ...

... but not from Samsung for our (classic) 7" tabs.

i jumped on the bandwagon a few months too soon, already off the updates

[Q] Is XXLRQ the latest official version? Is 4.1.1 coming?

I am considering buying a Samsung Galaxy Note (UK) next week.
Is the German XXLRQ (4.0.4) (that apparently also works in English) ROM currently the latest official build for the Note?
Will 4.1.1 be officially released by Samsung? If not, are the unofficial 4.1.1 ROMs worth using?

latest is LRT after LRQ. For official JB check this and this.
unofficial JB roms are good and worth using but still have some bugs though.

[Q] Need a little thought-provoking impulse - ROM-ing not just MOD-ing?

Hi,
since I own a S3 Mini I am into this board and the great custom roms here .. :good:
but what I still don't get: how close are the custom roms to the stock rom.
for instance:
stock for S3 mini is 4.1.2 - kernel 3.0.x?
custom roms: 4.2.2, 4.3.1 and 4.4.2 - all (maclaw roms) use the same kernel 3.0.101
but 4.4 uses linux kernel 3.3 or 3.4?
so what does this difference in the kernel versions (3.0.101 to 3.3) mean? Isn't it like using windows 95 with a windows vista or windows 7 theme?
dont't get me wrong, I love the custom roms! Using the slimrom of maclaw and like it a lot. Just wanna get it right in my head :silly:

I dont really know what are the changes in the different kernels but think of them like software updates, there may be tweaks, fixes and new features
All we have is 3.0 is because there are only 3.0 kernel sources and STE died and are not releasing kernel sources anymore
Hi,
thx for the information!
i've just read about the "STE" thing. Is it the "munjeni" - "story" in the Sony Xperia thread in this board and the legality of using leaked source code?
What a pity

[Q] Need update advice for Captivate

I have a Captivate that was unlocked by ATT. It still has Eclair 2.1 and I want to update. Does anyone have any advice as to which would be better, Gingerbread, IceCream, JellyBean or KitKat?

JellyBean imo. The cappy doesn't have the hardware to run KitKat smoothly.

In my experience light JellyBean 4.2.2 ROMs run best on Captivate:
CM 10.1.0 Stable, SlimBean build 8, GamerzROM v4.0, ported CyanAOSP v.4.0.0, ported SuperNexus 2.0, etc.
