i think we all know the culprit for very weak GPS and wifi signal for nexus s is the battery back cover.
at least in my case when i open the battery back cover the GPS and wifi signal immediately behave normally.
so do you have any recommendation for 3rd party replacement for the battery back cover?

Thanks I will check them out
Would the white one in the one of the threads be non nfc?
tthat website also carried white battery cover long time ago and it was non nfc. It was pricy though since it was like when white nexus s was released. So I'm guessing there is non nfc version outthere somewhere. U just need to find it lol. Good Luck.

Navigation is almost impossible with battery cover on.
And I have to open battery cover whenever I'm in my room in order to get better wifi signal.

Don't know for GPS, but I just tested WiFi with my stock cover. Connected to the red network (polo) which is in my condo about 30 feet away, clear sight.

~5dBm at the same exact location. Removing the cover does help, but it's not like you're gonna see a huge improvement unless you have exceptionally crappy signal strength.
And what about the network signal? There is any improvment? Somebody could tell me where the antennas (wifi, gps and network) are located back to the nexus? Thanks..

Its inside the phone. There is a nfc chip on the battery cover and it seems its interruping the signal. You can see wifi jumping 1 bar to 3-4 bar when u remove battery cover. Idk about network. You can remove battery cover and see if it improves ur network signal.

I also made some quick tests and couldn't see the difference in reception with and without the back cover, also both with NFC on and off.
I'm thinking this is mostly placebo effect... Heh.

Hi,
I got my 1340mah battery today and thought about making some pics to compare both batteries and back covers.
First of all, GPS receiving is just as good as with the original cover.
The new back cover isnt glossy anymore. I didn't clean my original back cover to show what the biiiiig plus for the new cover is.

Compared from the front
Here you can see that the new back cover is about 2,5mm thicker than the old one.
And this is what the phone looks like with the new back cover
I am up to some battery conditioning the next days and then hope that I will get 50% more battery life. Would make sense, though.
Let us know how long the battery life is!
Very nice pics. Thanks.
Does any e-store sells only the back 'non-glossy' cover?
Nice shots, thanks
How is the camera thru the deeper back cover?
Are there any cases or other protections devices that fit Diamond with bigger battery?
Have not seen any yet?
Camera Quality is about the same though the camera opening is bigger now. I will post my experiences with the battery life here when I unloaded and reloaded it some times. With 900mah battery and 15-20min phone, some sms and some playing around a day I got about 2,5 days with shutting the phone off at night. I expect about four days lifetime now and I would be very satisfied with this.
Where did you buy the battery and the case?
lets hope they make a ignito version!
yea dude..let us know where ya bought the battery and case!
I am from germany and they are available here now. I got it from cyberport.de for about 32 Euros including shipping.
very nice, is this htc pro original battery or another one?
You can get them from expansys in your country. Look for BP E270.
They really are good. It feels like a lot more than 50% extra power too - it's tough to make it go flat now, lol. For me the biggest plus is to be able to take it out all weekend and it makes the distance. The little bit extra size on the cover is nothing much at the end of the day and you get used to it quickly. Also as pointed out the material feels much better and doesn't leave prints everywhere.
Single best additional purchase I've made for my Diamond and I recommend it to all!

Oh yes it is. This third party batteries are real crap, they double the size of your phone and it's NOT possible to receive any GPS signal with these. Forget that crap.
And yes, this 1340mah is the original HTC battery - no problems with GPS
It's really tough to get the battery dead now, wasnt able to get it to shut off automatically yesterday evening, I got the battery very weak message and left GPS on, half an hour later I decided to go to bed and load it anyways because it didnt shut off from itself.
And about the weight? Is the difference noticeable?
well others say its noticeable... don't know maybe 20 grams?
would the non-gps 1800mah batter fit into this htc cover?
or any other ultra powerfull non-htc batter?
i really like the cover, but it can still be much better, there's still wasted space
I just got an extended 1800mah battery yesterday and as mentioned GPS is not available when using 1800mah battery, the signal seem to be not available with the 1800mah battery.
After I observe and try, i notice that the original 900mah battery can lost the signal too when we take off the back cover (you can see the signal drop in the GPS signal page) but when I put back the back cover the signal seem to be recovered. So conclusion is there must be something stick to the original back cover to enhance the signal reception strength for the GPS data. So I need some expert to help to solve the problem. I just wonder if we can just stick a piece of similar material in the 1800mah back cover and that will make the 1800mah battery function close to perfect (except the size).
Greattttt
Thanks fBx.. Very nice images and greaattt comparison.
I would like to know, do you feel battery life is increased by 50%?
Thanks a lot

just a reminder.
the cover will not be cheap as it will need to have the NFC antenna on it. else you can't use the NFC.
i believe this is the set-back for all other case manufacturer just to jump in a make one.

It looks like from the photos, that the black plastic on the case is over the plastic strips where the antenna are located on the M8. If true, I would think it would have minimal or no effect on signal.
The brushed metal looks nice, and the colors are cool. But the shape reminds me of the nearly ubiquitous iPhone cases.
Thanks
I'm hesitant to get it because the front isn't protected , but I have a tempered glass protector. I don't know if that's enough protection

Think he was looking for facts / information. There is / was a guy doing custom aluminum cases on here. He did some testing back on the HTC Evo 4g LTE with his cases. IIRC the signal was -81 db with the case and -84 without, or vice versa. It was quite a minor difference. It had no effect on the amount of bars I had at home.
On HIS cases, there is rubber inserts on the case the cushioned the phone. So there was no movement, no vibration / scratching etc. Idk about this case in question. Mine was customized with Steelers logos on it
I have one of these case and I lost like 1 or 2 bars on my signal.
I don't know where the interference came from.

I would not recommend these, I bought one of these recently for the M8 and while putting it on, had issues with it scratching and gouging the chamfered bezel edge near where the bumper locks together. The inner edges are extremely sharp on this bumper. I had no issues with the one they made for the M7, which used screws to hold them together.
From my experience, aluminum cases have degraded quality I'm signal. However, with the use of plastic, this may work.

Hello guys, after 3 years with my device the power button died on me, so I ordered this replacement on Amazon, and replaced it myself, I had changed the screen and battery before also, with no problems so far.
So, I open the phone, and it had 3 stripped screws:

}
I used a 1 mm drill do remove them, and apparently (visually) I didn't do any damage to the device.
I had to add the battery, the camera glass and another part to the replacement, I don't know what it does:
It's not connected by wire, just by "pressure".
Ok, I turn on the phone, on wifi, and everything works great(Signal had full bars). So I closed it without the missing screws.
When I went out to dinner, by 4G had full bars, no X, but not working. I tested with an app, and it showed the signal was ok.
I did an Network Reset, and it didn't help at all.
Now most of the time I have ZERO signal, or 4G with an X, sometimes HSPA works perfectly, sometimes with an X, today I had 4G working for 30 minutes, with 5mb down and 0.25mb up, but right now Zero signal again, and I was in São Paulo and Rio, so big cities with total 4G and 3G coverage.
I didn't have time to do a full wipe because of the holidays, but I don't think it's software related, but I will.
I don't know where the antenna is, or if I could have damaged it, but it makes no sense for me to have full bars and data one minute, and none on the other.
I will open it up again, and also do a full wipe, but I'm curious if someone here have some insight about this problem.
Nexus 6 7.1.1 N6F27I (August 5,2017)
Magisk v14.0
Again, it was working on 4G with 50mb speeds (Max in Brazil for me) moments before my repair.
Thank you very much!
That would be 1 of the 2 speakers that is circled in red. I have torn mine apart atleast 25 times over the years and no signal issues but I did try and find the antenna contacts awhile back and from what I could gather, didn't spend alot of time looking, but they make contact around near the top corners, either one or both I cannot remember, you can see the small square gold contacts in the picture, then from the contacts into the actual midframe itself, hence why there are the 8 "joints" around it, 2 on each corner, I believe those are the antenna lines as it would have been easier for them to just make the midframe a solid piece over multiple parts. I have bent one of my corners to where I can move one of the corners a pretty good amount almost pulling it apart when it's just the midframe by itself so I don't think it's damaged Soo easily, rather try cleaning all of the gold contacts around the midframe, also look very very close at the "pins"(?) That the contacts line up with on the Mobo, they are tiny as hell and can be bent easy, if one is then that could explain it, isopropyl alcohol 89% or higher will clean any surface and is safe, 99% if ur pharmacy carries it lol. Before all that try the baseband cache eraser in the radio thread and flash it in TWRP, maybe flash the newest radio before you resort to opening her up again. Good luck!

Not a problem. Far as the metal shavings goes I'd personally take a very close look over everything, softest bristle toothbrush you can find normally works well for cleaning without damaging anything, I've also found one of my girls smaller/thinner makeup brushes worked wonders for not only the inside but insanely well on the front speaker grills lol. Also as I'm sure you know speakers having magnets inside them it would be a good place for metal shavings to build up. Also if you are having any issues with the speakers or feel they are low they are like $5 or less on Amazon.
Don't worry about a screw or 2 missing lol, think mines missing 2 itself also the middle red circled screw you highlighted, the one above the bottom most highlighted screw, along with, (I believe it to be the one to the right of the camera housing, be careful with them as if they are tightened down past a point they beging putting pressure on the screen bowing it out. Try to go little by little and feel the screen as you tighten to assure it's still flat.

hi
my pixel 4 xL broken the wireless charging after the march update, until now, i upgrade to the android 12, but still can't get it work. anyone have this same problem? or anyone have solution to fix this?
Hey!
I mean, Wireless charging is something that is rarely broken by an update, though it's possible. Here is what I recommend you to do:
Refresh the whole firmware of the Google Pixel 4 XL and use the latest version version.
If it still doesn't work do the process again, but this time flash the the version of Android that you remember had no problem with Wireless charging.
If nothing worked I would recommend you to try using another Wireless charging, if you don't want to buy a new one you can try one on some tech store on your city.
If nothing work I am sorry but your Wireless charging coil is broken, and you need to fix your phone.
Fortunately it's very easy, you just need to change the back cover or just replace the wireless charging coil which is glued down on the back of the phone. Here is a link to fixit's web page with a guide on how to fix only the charging coil, though if you want you can buy a new back glass for 40$, just check it had all the camera sensors.
Hope this helps you!!! ;D

I've had two P4XL's replaced under warranty, one as recently as a month ago. The same thing happened on both of them. The battery swells in the middle of the phone, separating the back glass from the frame around the volume buttons. I didn't see it until I took the case off and inspected the phone. Google has extended warranty for battery related issues if you purchased the phone directly from them. Check your phone carefully for this swelling and glass separation.

That's strange, battery swallen is something that happens, but the device need to be very hot to for that to happen( like the battery need to be at almost 50 degrees, and should be older than 3 years).
Though if you can get it replaced that's a good idea
upgrade to android 12, but the wireless charging still not work, so maybe the wireless charging coil is broken
Nothing to do with 12. Charging coils are flexible and don't break. Batteries swell and their fragile connections do break. In the picture, the back glass is separated from the frame, indicating the battery is swollen. It is flush at the bottom corner but bulges in the center. This is an extreme case, yours may be more subtle but you have to rule it out.
