I want to turn off ascending ringer in my Captivate running Roger's stock 2.3.3. I heard iI can do this with Darky's Rom but am not sure which one to use. Can someone point me in the right direction? Or suggest an alternative method to turn off the annoying ascending ringer? Thanks
Look for Volume-1...-7.mp3 files under system/media/audio/ui and delete them with a root explorer.
Edit: if u don't find any of the files suggested above then it comes down to edit framework.jar if I'm right which is a bit complicated.

I have flashed my phone and I don't like the ringtones included in this ROM.
I am going to be flashing back and upgrading to a newer version of the ROM, when I flash back I want to retrieve the stock ringtones, how do I go about this? Is there a way to save them off? Or is it possible to just get the stock ringtones another way?
They're located at /system/media/audio/ringtones. Use Root Explorer or ADB to copy them.
This belongs in Q&A.
Awesome, thanks.
Yeah, I put it in the development forum since it involved rooting and ROM, probably should have been Q&A but I was torn.
After watching a "how-to" video on youtube titled "Android Lock Screen Swap (How-To)", I've decided to begin my search for a taplock update.zip file that will work for my phone build.
My phone:
SGH-I897
Build: Eclair JH7
If anyone has one or can make one or can point me to one--that would be fantastic. I've searched around via google and past xda posts but haven't found one that has a working link.
Side Question: Does anyone know if the current Cog version has a slide style lock screen?
Thanks in advance on any help!
Don't know what taplock is.
Congition and perception have the stock slide to unlock / silence. Perception also has epic, vibrant and captivate lock screens as a choice.

Wrong section of the forum, move it to Q&A.
wasn't sure where to post this message--as writing a update.zip file for a specific phone build seemed to be more specific in nature than just Q&A but if it goes there--feel free to move it or let me know how i'm supposed to move it.
To the previous post--Taplock is a lock screen program much like what you just described. I was hoping to just flash taplock rather than have to flash an entire ROM to get a different lock screen than the stock sliding glass panel thing. If someone knows another way--I'm more than willing to check it out.
I would post a link to the video that i saw so that this would make more sense but I'm not allowed for the sake of spam protection or something like that.
thanks for the response on the cog question though.

Before the mods close this I'll give you the answer I think you are looking for.
For most roms the Taplock (android aosp) functionality is achieved by modifying the android.policy.jar file. You decompile it modify a few of the smali files, recompile it, and push it to your phone.
Caveats
1. I haven't been on an Eclair rom in ages, so I don't know 100%
2. You need to have the android sdk tools
3. You will most likely need to be rooted and have CWM in place. I haven't worked out of the 2e recovery in terms of an adb session.
Personally this is an easy task (i've done it a lot), if you post up your android.policy.jar from /system/framework I'll take a look at it, however, I make no promises. Also can you elaborate on what your phone is running? Is it still factory stock, unmolested, er modified?
PM me with the details, let's let this thread die/get locked/ moved, etc.
I'm also interested in this "slider" or iPhone looking unlock screen. It's called Taplock.zip on the YouTube video...but not sure if that's it's real name.
I am rooted on stock Android 2.1, ROM Manager w/CWM and I also have SDK installed on my PC.
I'm not ready to jump into a new ROM just yet, just trying to take little baby steps for now.
hey guys, just rooted my Samsung Captivate. Everything has been going great till now. i Downloaded a lagfix, which is honestly the main reason i rooted my phone. however after everything (yes, i did everyting right) i didnt have the app that was included in the .zip file iput in my phone. the app is called MCR scripts.
i did some reseach and i found this key line
"*** If MCR Scripts DOES NOT show up, its probably because you don't have the non market install hack on your phone. In the update.zip you can find the apk and install via ADB, but I didn't do it this way. ******"
in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750869
so how do i just get the MCR scripts? i downloaded tayutama's zip file and i found the folder named "scripts" with the 3 files in there but they are .sh files.
so what do i do here? do i need to convert then to apk or something? please help!!!
forgot to mention...because i have a captivate i can not just go to setting/applications/ and choose for any app to be allowed or what not. i simply do not have that option. i use android central to get my apk files working on my phone. I have tried to run a zip file that will just let me install the apk file on my phone with no need for a computer. But that was to no avail.
bumping this.....this forum moves fast haha
thats an old thread and deprecated now im sure. why not flash a kernel with voodoo enabled? That would be a much safer and logical approach
woooah what?
i would like to get all technical and hardcore with this rooting thing but step by step lol. I'm still in my beginning stage i have a lot of experience to be earned ahead of me. is there no way to just get the mcr scripts as an apk?

have a look at the date on that thread, and the FIRST LINE in the thread asking to be deleted....
right, i didn't notice that...wow. either way that new thread the link is dead. and for me to run that packaged zip file i would need to completely set my phone to stock, nor do i know how to do that. Im simply asking for just the MCR files in apk format if that is possible at all. If not then can you please point me in the right direction? Thank you for all the help so far, i truly do appreciate it.
i guess the real question here is what is your ultimate goal?
you want froyo? install a rom (most everything on the dev forum will install a lagfix for you, click on the link in my sig)
you just want a 'lagfix' on stock eclair? install a 2.1 kernel with voodoo
rom would be customizing the android correct? like a new home layout and what not? That would be cool but im happy with what i have...i would just like to be able to download any app for free. and get the lag fix. i got the first part down (apps for free) by rooting the phone, all i have to do is get the apk downloaded on my comp then run android central to install it on my phone.
so i download kernel with voodoo, is it just a drop into internal sd...same as when i rooted my phone? then go into recovery and choose reinstall packages?
ok found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784170
sooo i would definitely be installing the one WITHOUT the back light notification, as...my hpone doesnt have leds. Hopefully it works for all galaxy s phones because this seems to be for only the 19000 captivate? while i have the sgh captivate from AT&T.
3rd page in less than 24 hours...wow lol
so at this thread
http://project-voodoo.org/download
i downloaded the lag fix for my phone which is like near the bottom of the page. i renamed it to lag fix zip file tp "update" but since i have the other files that are also renamed to "update" like for my rooting and stuff the file ended up being update(3) idk if that makes a difference but when i booted my phone from recovery mode after choosing resinstall pacakges, the phone boots up normally no long pause durgin the at&t screen or anything so i know the lag fix didnt work...also because the phone is still...slow. helllp! please.
you need to remove ANY other update.zip files from your phone and rename THAT file to update.zip
then reinstall packages
once you have installed an update.zip it is no longer required on your sdcard
thats what i was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Ill check back once its done thankyou.
YES!!! i knew it was going to work when i heard the freaky computer lady's voice haha. Even still, i didnt notice a HUGE improvement, my quadrant score is a bit dissapointing only 1400...
yea, so do you guys think i should maybe overclock? its still laggy/slow to me. Im sure becuase of the preious iphone usage lol. whats the best way to o/c? i heard that the overclock app isnt very reliable...i know , i know, overclocking itself isnt relable but are there other ways about doing it?
off your original topic ...
understood. making a new thread.
I had looked through /system for odex files and found none, so I tried to manually deodex the new ROM, and low and behold, still unable to find any .odex!
Can others confirm this?
I was hoping you had the answer sad face. B4 I just used root explorer and followed directions I'm such a noob.
I was able to get my gps working real good after flashing to stock gingerbread 2.3.4. I am rooted but did not feel like going through all of the steps for flashing any roms so I searched and searched and finally was able to fix it.
This is simple for those with clockworkmod but for those like me that can not use it this was successful for me. Also, I cannot take credit for any of this I am just providing a simple step by step for those who want it, since none of this fix or even the grouping of files was done by me.

I believe that with clockwork you can simply flash it but I cannot use cwm so I can not say for sure.
I was unable to rename it to update.zip and install it so i manually moved the files to my phone using root explorer.
first i replaced the gps.conf with H3llstorm's
so copy and paste the gps.conf in the /system/etc folder to your /system/etc folder on your phone.
Than I copy and pasted the vendor folder found in /system to my /system folder...../system/vendor did not exist.
After that I rebooted and went from 88 seconds to lock on 3-6 sats, but unable to maintain a lock while driving, to 9 seconds to lock and maintain a lock on 7-9 sats. I tested it on a 30 min drive through local and highway roads and it was constantly locked on. I stopped it at the end restarted nav, relocked quickly and came home with it working smoothly, I also purposely veered off course to see how it would react and it quickly re-routed.
I think the big change is the gps.conf, that h3llstorm made, good looks, and am not really sure if the vendor folder does anything but it worked so i recommend trying it anyway. The 88 seconds i was referring to was also with the gps.conf file found at
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-gps-quickest-fix-solution.2022/
It did not seem to do anything for me. This is not really a question but I am relatively new here so I cannot post a thread in the development section. I hope this helps anyone that does not want to flash anything more than stock gb.
I like the idea... the question is do we have to have 2.3.4 stock? Or will it still work with a 2.3.3 modded rom?

He took the fix from Dlev 4.2 which is a modded (reoriented) rom. If u ask if it's for stock cappy based roms only, I would say it's not. Stock roms come withOUT any gps aid and so it's hit or miss thing, while in modded roms the chefs usually have a fix backed in their roms. I'm guessing that's y he pointed out that the fix is recommended for those who are on stock, but no matter what rom your on feel free to experiment.

Yea he`s right i just said stock because i assumed the rom would have it preloaded, from what ppl have told me its worked with every version of gb regardless of rom or not. Also i was alluding to the fact that i with stock cant use cwm.
