Hi..i want to send my x8 to claim a warranty
I was wondering, since i had already voided it (everyone does), can anyone tell me how to make it 'clean' so the shop doesnt know notice that i had rooted and such.
Thanks...
Use PCC to repair the phone.. This will un-root, re-install 2.1 update 1 and look like the phone is fresh out of the box.
Thanks...
One more thing,
Can anyone who is using/used android 2.1 tell me if theres still random reboot in it?
My phone keeps doing random reboot altough i tried everything, full wipe, wipe dalvik, flash new rom but it keep on happening. So i want to try send it to the shop.
xperia x8 proud owner
I never had any random reboots on my X8 when I used stock 2.1 update 1..
Ok...im gonna use 2.1 for awhile. If the random reboot still happen,im sending it the shop for waranty

Make sure you locked bootloader if you unlocked it before.

Ok this is whats going on.... Phone starts fine, (its not unlocked or rooted) but if I install ANY app then restart the phone it just sits on the g1 screen for hours.... I have to wipe phone and start all over. can anyone tell me whats going on with my phone??
How long have you had the phone? T-mobile has a 1 yr warranty.
If it has been more than a year, I don't know what to tell you except maybe... root.
You may be able to fix it with a new ROM. Good luck.
Yea since you are having problems it sounds like you should root it and see if it has any problems, or try to reflash the stock firmware.

Hi,
I'm going to sent my Nexus one to the HTC repair centre, because he's been having this annoying random reboots.
My nexus has an unlocked bootloader, with a rooted custom rom. Is this going to be a problem for HTC? I mean, did I lost my warranty?
Because the problem is a hardware problem (I guess), so it has nothing to do with the custom rom...
Is there any possibility to lock the bootloader again and make the device look like how it looked when I bought it?
Thanks in advance!
are you sure this is a hardware problem? these kind of reboots are not uncommon with custom roms, have you tried chaing roms or kernels and seeing if that fixed it?

I've changed the kernels a few times. An I had the reboots on CM7 and on Miui.
Those roms are pretty stable I guess? And I haven't heard others complaining about reboots.
the reboots occur really randomly. Sometimes after a phone call, sometimes while browsing, sometimes while taking a picture. Sometimes I take my phone out of my pocket and it has rebooted, so I have to type in the PIN-code...
I tried factory reset and a clean install, with/without a2sd. with stock kernel, or with another kernel...
I don't know what to do anymore
After you flash any of these ROMs do your restore via titanium backup or similar because it happened to me once that every time I tried to open angry birds (weather it was normal seasons or beta) it would try to start then it would crash and it was no in the market and every time I would go to download it the phone would start the download then right before the install (when it hit 100%) it would go back to the cyanogen mod boot logo (I was running cyanogen obviously) so maybe it is something in your data that is screwing up and it keeps getting restored with titanium.
When you say a clean install, does this include MANUALLY wiping the /system partition?
Anyway, to your original question, unlocking your phone does void the warranty, that being said, HTC is usually good about replacing phones when it is a true hardware defect and keeping it as a warrantied repair. Most likely, when you get your phone back (if they don't replace it with a new one), it will be locked again with the stock OS on it.
But, your warranty is void, so HTC does not have any legal requirement to fix it under warranty. I am just telling you what I have noticed from other people's experiences.

Yes, I manually wipe everything.
Ok, thanks for the answer.
Since the warranty is void, does it still matter with which rom I give them the phone?
If they see a non-rooted stock rom, maybe they won't think the problem is caused by a custom rom?
Probably not. For any hardware problem, I'd bet the first thing they are going to do is flash a completely stock ROM to verify it isn't some software bug.
It is just easier than trying to troubleshoot. I don't even know how many of them would turn it on and let the phone boot up as that takes away a lot of time depending on how many phones they service in a day.
Hi!
I have the same problem and I could assure you guys that's a Hardware issue!!!
Probably the same as the HTC Desire!
From my personal experience I've sent my Nexus One 2 times and the assistance resend it to me simply reinstalling Froyo 2.2! I've sent the phone another time and, actually, I already have to do it back!
So, my Nexus is away since 2 months, counting all the 3 times!
I hope this time HTC have completely repaired my device. But still waiting for it...
NOTE:
I have an unlocked bootloader too, and you know that there's no way (actually) to re-lock the bootloader.
So the only thing that I do, before send the device to assistance, was to install the original Rom (Froyo or Gingerbread doesn't matter) and the original Recovery!
Obviously you must Wipe ALL (cache, partition, etc), to not encounter some kind of error's.
For the unlocked bootloader question, I don't think HTC void the warranty, because the Nexus One IS a Developer's Phone!!!
So it might be OPEN!
I'll post back later when I have my Nexus back with me.
Sincerely,
Matthew

While it is a developer phone, when you go to unlock the recovery, it does state that it voids your warranty. But I think HTC is decent enough to realize when it is a hardware issue that they are willing to still honor their warranty. I know a lot of people who got their power button repaired with unlocked bootloaders, because HTC knows it is a valid defect. BUT... they are not required to honor the warranty as it is void the minute you unlock your phone.
Where can I find the stock recovery?
I'm afraid this is also going to happen with my nexus, that they send him back, but the problem is still there. I'va read it happens to al lot of people :S
It's not even sure they can reproduce the problem. It's not like the phone is rebooting every 5 minutes...
about the reboots:
I've read a alot about it on the forums. And it seems that lots of android devices have this problem. Does anyone knows what might cause these reboots?
Maybe it has something to do with heat, which damages the motherboard?

Does your warranty center not support the advanced exchange? In the US, you can have them send you a new phone (while holding $520 of yours in reserve)... once you get the new phone, you send the old one back and they release your funds.
If you are that worried about it, I suppose you could just brick your phone yourself by screwing up a radio flash. That will prevent the phone from even booting, but I wouldn't/couldn't ever recommend doing this.
Tomorrow HTC is coming to pick my phone up
Hopefully they can fix the problem.
I've put the 2.3.4 OTA rom on the phone
Thanks for all the advice!
Please help a desperate x8 fellow!!!
The thing is like this:
My black X8 has been working great so far, I've realy abused it, installed 2.2 then 2.3 roms then factory reset it and then modified the stock rom till it was custom... but one day I "accidentally" onporpouse... (long story) FORMATED SYSTEM...
I know thats very stupidumb but well... so it won't allow me to install anything but 1.6, did this from flashtool pccompanion wont repair it: "there is no update for your phone yet, check later" or something, same with SEUS, rooted 1.6, installed Xrecovery, tried 2.1 stock roms and nothing it just enters loop restarts.
Im beggining to grow some love for 1.6 and that is just wrong... can somebody help me? PLEASE.
More info: the screen in "sony-ericcson" logo not the animated one and brightnes is very dimmed like 10% or so.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
You can use pccompanion to repair your x8
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
ThankU
Thanks for the quick answer,
Already try that via update and repair phone (phone in flash mode), also with SEUS none of those worked for my, I'm guessing I messed with something that cannot be detected by pccompanion since it tells me "there is no update for your phone yet keep trying" or some thing like that.
But my real worries began when even xrecovery could give me back my precious 2.1 backup, I have a backup for the stock rom and one from a moment i consider the phone was running smootly, but none boots just loop-restarts.
Maybe there is something Im Missing, Would win xp make a diference in the repairing process? since my main pc is on win7.
Sorry for the messy english.
Thanks in advance.

Download the baseband 015 for your device,
Flash it via flashtool.

ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS OF EVERYTHING YOU PLAY WITH
READ ABOUT BASEBAND BEFORE FREAKING OUT

Hi, my friend owns a W8. He want to use GingerDX but he wants to do everything by himself. So I guided him online, but now he has a problem. His phone is stucked at the Sony Ericsson logo. I have no choice but to call him to go to my place and do it for him. I have no idea what to do as I never did it on W8. W8 is the same as X8 right? So what do I do now?
What I have thought is relock the bootloader and flash back to stock ROM, but the thing is, I can't find any.
Any clues guys? Thanks!
You don't need to find any W8 ROM, just take his phone while he don't notices it. Then use PC Companion at home. When you find him next day, tell him that you found his phone on the floor or somewhere else. This is your plan!
Lol. I told him I might have to wipe his phone. All he cares is his Drag Racing filesave. Well, PC Companion is my only choice huh.
Anyway, anyone got LinuxDX working on their W8?
yeah i do. first i have big problem in my W8 because i flash it into linuxDX and my network dont have any signal at all.. it was like 3 days of no network at all! well i figure it out when i try to read and summaries all the threads i found which is related to flashing and unlocking bootloader... now im enjoying my W8 with gingerDX v017 with LinuxDX, dont have any problem with it since i've done lot of trail and error basis to my phone.. risky but you will gain something from it..

Backup apps using titanium backup, then restore after you installed other rom.
Welcome!
I have a big, big hardbricked problem, i think..
Some weeks ago, my friend bought a Sony Ericsson X8 phone... then next day he come to me, his camera on the phone not work, just black screen..
I think that would be the solution, if i reflash it, it successfuly, but the camera still not worked... so i think i should change the kernel.. then i watched the build number.. it was 11w03 so i decided to unlock bootloader to be able to install kernel.. started unlock application but we waited to many minute for it.. so i unplugged phone, which is rebooted.. after it won't turn on..
I tried to flash with flashtool too, and seus.. but nothing change...
otherwise we send it to local service( not sony ericsson service), where they said they can't repair it..
please help.. any idea how to fix it?
i already unlocked some phone's bootloader successfully.. so i am not noob at modding.. just now something went wrong..
is your flashtool updated? or rather, did you wait until the flashtool even recognized your device, or did you even turned on the usb debugging before unlocking?
have you checked the device via s1tool?
Something went wrong at unlocking, probably you unpluged phone to fast. So it is hardbricked and there is no way to fix it at home.
