Guys,
I love the forum, hardly ever post unless I can answer a question but i am furious and in bad need of advice.
A while back I picked up a tmobile branded dell streak 7 off of someone just to play with. I put it down, got busy with work and didnt think about it for a while.
Now on with the nightmare. 3 days ago I decided to set it up and see what could be done with it and i swear to god no matter how many ways I reset it, format it, wipe it or curse it... I will not release the information of the previous owner. His gmail account is still there and when I try to remove it it tells me I cant because certain applications need it. I havent seen anything else quite like this out on the interwebz and i have been looking for at least the last three hours. As always, any help would be much appreciated.

You should be able to do the reset that clears the internal memory, that should work.

Yup, factory reset is the only way to clear it.

Here the what i think happened.
I tried to flash a some firmware onto sprint tab that I got working for a day. i then wanted to try a different rom. something went wrong and my tab didnt boot correctly. i couldnt get it into download mode, although ive done it about 100 times prior. Nothing worked but the flash was on. i couldnt turn it off. it would come on when i pluged the device to the comp or the charger.
i figured ill let the battery drain and try again to recover with the no_modem.tar everyone has used before. no luck .
a week past and now ive tried hiem and this time i was able to get a read. i must have tried the same files and same order 20 times out of desperation. to tell you the truth i didnt even notice when it made the connection. i just saw the process complete.
i thought like many other times before im back. however i cant get a sign of life from this device. i tried everything. if i had to put it into words this thread will be 3 pages before anyone can attempt to give me some input.
i want to give up. if it wasnt for this forum and all i have learned here before with my ppc8700 years ago , i would have mailed it in. so please. give me some advice. im too tired to continue. just spent 5 hours and missed dinner holding the 3 buttons and well getting no response from the tab.
please help..excuse my grammar . i didnt even proof read....
And this is relevant to the development section????
Dude how is this a dev project? Use some common sense, go to the question forum.

if it doesn't go into download mode your done. You're going to have to send it in unless youre good with a soldering iron and have some serious JTAG skillz.

Sorry guys.took everything I had that night to put my problem in words.appreciate the move...
I have a NEW direct from Dell, Streak 7. This is my first tablet. This item was a gift from a family member out of state so getting a return is really not an option.
I have set the tablet up with T-Mobile, and everything seemed to go ok. Got gingerbreak and rooted tab. Waiting on Dell to send me unlock code so that I can get the firmware upgraded to latest Honeycomb. However....
This tablet will have forcecloses 10% of the time, on any given program, will shut down for no reason...sometimes reboot, sometimes not. Will freeze after restart. Will freeze and only hard reset will get it back. Will shut off and not be able to turn back on unless you hard reset button and then try to turn it on right.
I have tried to research the issue, but I really can't afford to pay someone for answers. Just trying to see what the deal may be. The item was new, I had to break the seal to get it out of the box and all original items were sealed.
THanks to anyone who can help......or at least direct me on the right path to fixing it......: )
You should've rooted using the Superuser7.zip posted by TheManii
I'm sorry, in my research, I only saw the gingerbreak boasted about. Plus the issue was ongoing before I rooted the tablet
Sorry again...I am still kinda new.....thanks for the reply however
HMMM, well I would suggest you decide what version you want to run (Froyo or Honeycomb) and then I would search the forum for how to restore the 7 back to factory state. It's hard to believe you were having FCs out of the box, sounds more like you are leaving out some details, but no matter, I would suggest restoring back to stock with a clean install... believe me, there are PLENTY of threads. Might I suggest you restore back to stock Froyo, play with that a while and do lots of reading before trying to root or change ROMs. If you don't follow my suggestions you will just be back here with a device you can't use and getting flamed for getting in above your head before you were ready
I have been waiting to answer this post.....Sir or whoever you are....
I do not appreciate you assuming I was not totally honest about the situation I am in with my product. I have no reason to not give all the information so that I can have the best chance of finding a solution to my problem.
Prior to my Dell tablet I have rooted my HD2 and also my MyTouch, so I do kinda know my way around, however when the issues happened right out of the box, it was a total shock. So I figured .... I would go to my friends at XDA....However, I don't feel too good about these posts you have left....or again the assumptions you have made....

Well you don't leave me much to assume sir, anyone that has a brand new product and immediately has issues with it would logically return it immediately, BUT in my experience when someone is in your situation it means they did something to their device and can't get it back to factory conditions to be able to get warranty work done on it....
Again,
First....I am a Mam.....not a SIR. Second. It was a gift.....I have managed to get help for my issues and they have been solved.....I have no control over someone whom assumes. You know what they say about that......Good Day.
get off your high horse
Not on a high horse.....I do not have to put up with rudeness. It is uncouth and uncalled for. I have every right to defend myself. I am sorry if you don't like that.......sorry
I just found the Samsung Note GT-N7000 lying on a wall by my job. what perfect timing seeing as my other phone broke. unfortunately, I'm having a few issues.
1. Phone will not perform a hard reset. I've done the volume up+ home+ power keys and the phone will not respond. I've tried doing it through the settings and can't seem to figure out the password.
2. WLAN fails to enable
3. I'm on T-Mobile and the phone will not recognize my data connection. I receieve calls and texts just fine. But, I cannot connect to the internet.
Is it possible the phone is region locked? would I have to go to T-Mobile and get them to unlock it? any help is greatly appreciated asap. I rely on my phone for work and really need it to perform.
I hate to be that person. But, bump
Could you not ask the original owner who put his phone down for a second, whether its simlocked...? As I am sure he/she will love to answer that for you..
I'm guessing by now, chances are the phone has prolly been reported stolen and de-activated by now... And will end up just being a Tablet very soon...

You act as if I made no attempt at finding the owner of the device. But, I don't think I need to explain myself to you.
if the phone was deactivated, would I still be able to receive calls and texts? because I can.
Who would lose a note and not want it back.however long it takes I think u should find a way to return it.return it to the network provider they will know the owner as I'm sure he or she is registered

It is true, you dont have to explain yourself to me... However, I am sure many other people see this post in the same way. As you've not extactly made your post appear as though you've tried all you can to return it to the rightful owner. No mention of this... Only that you found it on a wall and it comes in handy as your other phone has died? And barely 3.5 hrs after posting the initial request, that your bumping a thread for answers, which shows your desperate for that quick answer...
Some times it can take a couple of days before people see or will reply to a post, not hours...
Not wishing to be mean or anything, but ya gotta see it from other peoples point of view too... Not saying you didnt try to return it... But nothing in your posts express that, only your eagerness to Restore the phone into a working state that you can use...
Don't return it, there stupid fault for losing it... Keep it and enjoy it did.

Seriously? Really?
If so, then let's move further - if someone is stupid enough to keep the phone accessible in public, he just deserves to have it stolen.
The difference between pavement and somebody's pocket is negligible, isn't it?
PS. To the OP - usually, with a found phone, it's enough to dial one of the most recent calls to find who is the owner.
Well said p107r0... My thoughts exactly...
Its not hard to just dial the first person in the phonebook, or recent calls...
My dads mate lost his phone, ok so it wasnt a Smartphone or anything to be proud of finding... just ya old basic call/text type... But he uses it for work, all his contacts and would be lost without it...
Yet one day I was in a pub, enjoying a drink and I get a random call from his phone... The person who found it in the street dialed my number as it was alphabetically first and told me he found it and where he could return it too. I was so pleased to hear honesty from him, and told my dad who passed it onto his mate. This person even waited around for when was a good time for my dads mate to see him, he was so pleased to get it back he rewarded him....
So before anything says its their own dumb fault, they deserve it... Just think if it was your own phone... Would you be happy if you lost access to all your data?? Knowing someone has got something of YOURS?? If your that kind of person, well lets hope they take something from you or your family.. and see how it feels????

Is there or is there not a working root tool/utility if I currently have 4.3 on the device (I was sent a new one and it was updated already)-and what/where is it? Some context since I have a moment: I Used some type of tool/program to root this thing when I got launch day. I finally broke it on a business trip in Japan last week and I have honestly fell off the forums completely since my son was born about the same time as I originally rooted this thing. That, combined with a partnership I have taken on in business- has essentially taken all free time away and, when my replacement arrived yesterday, I felt completely inept and without any reference point in my head to work from. Sad, I really miss having the time to mess around with my gadgets and I've learned so much here, but I'm really hoping to find some balance soon enough. So on lunch, after a day and a half of searching, I gave up and indeed made a very clumsy post, absent of any real thought-clearly showing some frustration. I Still have no idea where this all in one that I know I used to root this originally went and I certainly posted in the wrong section-no excuse for that- the gentleman has every right to react how he sees fit although after 7 years here I never found any productivity come out of commenting in that manor-so I choose to conduct myself differently from the outset. Appreciate the time and help.

I hear you; five kids, a full time job, and full time school and I try to build ROMs for this device. I understand where your coming from. Not the end of the world. But, as I have said in my threads before, if you make a really silly request, I reserve the right to mess with you about it. That's just me. But, I do it in playfulness, not actual meanness. Be cool, and if you need any help with anything, look me up.

No doubt you have that right and I'm all for bustin chops as well-to a point of course and yours was constructive. But some of the rage that I regularly see come out in comments here really bewilders me-I mean a paragraph about what a blanking idiot someone is or details about what they can go do to themselves- all because they are having trouble with something or even made a thoughtless post (like I did) -makes me want to say- "dude what happened in your day/life to react that strongly over something so insignificant?". Who knows. Anyway, I really appreciate you reaching out and relating to my situation a bit- especially since you clearly have a very busy life yourself-to say the least.
I got an HTC Vivid today, After spending an awful amount of time looking this thing up and o.s. and yadda yadda to make sure there are updates to get it up on ICS. I need something to run 4.0. and this is driving me NUTS! I get the phone booted up and check for an update. Said error, not unusual for where I live SO.. I turned to HTC. Downloaded the HTC Sync, will not even register my phone. Phone can not locate it either. I talked to HTC, finally got fed up with them as I guess they did not understand I just needed my phone updated. After HTC, I called ATT tech support. After wasting 45 mins of my time they tell me to go to a store. So, I go to the store. Mind you our car blew a rotor yesterday and this ATT is out of town. We get there, they tell me they cant help me because the update needs to be done over wifi and this certain ATT does not have wifi. Great! then i proceed to show them the error message. They tell me it's some kind of software malfunction. Well, now I'm back home beyond frustrated and asking for some help here seeing as this wasnt as easy as I had hoped it would be.
I know the general idea of all this but I have never done anything with a phone yet so if someone can help here, BABY STEPS LOL! Talk to me like im 10 I dont care Just want to get this done so I can go about doing the things I need to, whole reason I bought the phone. Thank you in advanced!
NEVERMIND
I finally got it!

This is what I did, it forced my Vivid to download the update
Easy peasy:
Open the dialer and dial: *#*#682#*#* and hit send. Might have to do it a few times, took me 2 times but it worked for me an my phone is running 4.0.3 now HTC sense version: 3.6
Hope that can help someone else down the road if need be!
I was personally ready to kill my phone though as I only had a few hours lol
I wasn't attached to it yet. So make sure if you try it, you are ready for the possibility it wont work.
