[Q] Samsung Note Issues - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just found the Samsung Note GT-N7000 lying on a wall by my job. what perfect timing seeing as my other phone broke. unfortunately, I'm having a few issues.
1. Phone will not perform a hard reset. I've done the volume up+ home+ power keys and the phone will not respond. I've tried doing it through the settings and can't seem to figure out the password.
2. WLAN fails to enable
3. I'm on T-Mobile and the phone will not recognize my data connection. I receieve calls and texts just fine. But, I cannot connect to the internet.
Is it possible the phone is region locked? would I have to go to T-Mobile and get them to unlock it? any help is greatly appreciated asap. I rely on my phone for work and really need it to perform.

I hate to be that person. But, bump

Could you not ask the original owner who put his phone down for a second, whether its simlocked...? As I am sure he/she will love to answer that for you..
I'm guessing by now, chances are the phone has prolly been reported stolen and de-activated by now... And will end up just being a Tablet very soon...

You act as if I made no attempt at finding the owner of the device. But, I don't think I need to explain myself to you.
if the phone was deactivated, would I still be able to receive calls and texts? because I can.

Who would lose a note and not want it back.however long it takes I think u should find a way to return it.return it to the network provider they will know the owner as I'm sure he or she is registered
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app

It is true, you dont have to explain yourself to me... However, I am sure many other people see this post in the same way. As you've not extactly made your post appear as though you've tried all you can to return it to the rightful owner. No mention of this... Only that you found it on a wall and it comes in handy as your other phone has died? And barely 3.5 hrs after posting the initial request, that your bumping a thread for answers, which shows your desperate for that quick answer...
Some times it can take a couple of days before people see or will reply to a post, not hours...
Not wishing to be mean or anything, but ya gotta see it from other peoples point of view too... Not saying you didnt try to return it... But nothing in your posts express that, only your eagerness to Restore the phone into a working state that you can use...

Don't return it, there stupid fault for losing it... Keep it and enjoy it did.

Seriously? Really?
If so, then let's move further - if someone is stupid enough to keep the phone accessible in public, he just deserves to have it stolen.
The difference between pavement and somebody's pocket is negligible, isn't it?
PS. To the OP - usually, with a found phone, it's enough to dial one of the most recent calls to find who is the owner.

Well said p107r0... My thoughts exactly...
Its not hard to just dial the first person in the phonebook, or recent calls...
My dads mate lost his phone, ok so it wasnt a Smartphone or anything to be proud of finding... just ya old basic call/text type... But he uses it for work, all his contacts and would be lost without it...
Yet one day I was in a pub, enjoying a drink and I get a random call from his phone... The person who found it in the street dialed my number as it was alphabetically first and told me he found it and where he could return it too. I was so pleased to hear honesty from him, and told my dad who passed it onto his mate. This person even waited around for when was a good time for my dads mate to see him, he was so pleased to get it back he rewarded him....
So before anything says its their own dumb fault, they deserve it... Just think if it was your own phone... Would you be happy if you lost access to all your data?? Knowing someone has got something of YOURS?? If your that kind of person, well lets hope they take something from you or your family.. and see how it feels????

Poor performance

I am really struggling with this phone!
Yes it looks great.. and the 3d touch flo looks great.
But the blo*dy thing is crap at doing what it is designed for... being a phone.
When trying to get it going after it has been sleeping it can take an age... totally unresponsive...
I need a phone to work properly and not just sit there and look shiny!
I have added the enhancements and am using the Elite 2.0 rom..
Cheers
the problem with TF3D disable it
or
upgrade to latest rom
Blimey last poster you really don't read things before you post your sharp responses do you?! That's at least two from you today. Seems to be quite the habit on this forum which is depressing for a new person on the block (like me).
At original poster, if what I think you mean is you want to use it to call straight away after waking it up - I share your frustration. It does seem to take a while before I can get it to call out after sleeping and I've used HTC, Elite and TLR roms and it's all the same for me.
What network are you on maybe that has something to do with it - I'm T-Mob.
another useless, whiner thread...
what's the question? now we know that u r not satisfied with the diamond. now what? what's the drama? send it back for a refund.
this is not a wall to graffiti slogans and complains.

What you see as useless other see as interesting and usefull.
I am thinking of buying this phone as i'm fed up with waiting for the i900 Omnia and this thread has been usefull. Now, thanks to reading this thread I am warned about slow "wake-up" of the Diamond and now more hesitant, almost to the point of not buying it.
Sadly though, you seem to judge everyone else by your own standards.
Ericsson68 was indeed trying to be helpfull by two things:
1; confirming that he too has a slow "wake-up" e.g its not he op's phone itself
2; Offering a possible explanation "What network are you on maybe that has something to do with it - I'm T-Mob. "
No one is forcing you to read these posts and no one is forcing you to write a pointless reply. It is often said by wise people (and those with friends!), if you have nothing constructive so say, don't say it.
So Erricsson and TrevorM, thanks guys! You've highlighted to me that this phone may have an issue, even with the latest roms applied, in that its slow to wake up. This is EXACTLY the reason i'm here along with many others!

Dude listen the way i see it is that if you havent got anything useful to say or post then refrain from doing so. People are going to complain no matter what you or anyone else says. Like Monty says people have different ideas as to what is good for them and what isnt...fact of the matter is everytime i see you post...your always having a pop at someone who asks a question or slates the phone. Do you actually own HTC??...because sometimes your posts come across as a HTC fanboy...so what if people are saying the phone is useless/rubbish.
I'll say this about the Diamond, i love it but its hard work getting everything to run as you want it to. Personally HTC have alot to answer for, their QC testing is quite frankly crap and rubbish. They were in such a hurry to get this phone out...it seems like their engineers/designers fell asleep for a few months. The stock rom has too many niggles and problems with it, thankfully we have a place like this where we have some excellent guys who are making the Diamond a more enjoyable product due to their new roms. I swear if places like this didnt exist...HTC wouldnt be in business for much longer.
With regards to the OP, as i said before the phone is hard work...sometimes i struggle to do anything with it but i still love it. Perhaps try the TLR rom...its much faster and seems more smoother. AS for the sleeping issue??...it does take a few secs to get it back up and running but i can live with that...its not like it takes forever...well mine doesnt feel like that.

i gave you a hint. you didn't get it. keep on spamming.
Since when is the forum becoming a customer review of phones ?
I see already a thousand threads about the things that the Diamond does not fulfill. If you start reading them it is amazing what people whine about! "My phone does not react instantly after waking up", "My phone does not go to vibrate when I flip ip when it rings", "my phone is not the chickmagnet HTC promised it to be, I stil do not have a girlfriend" ...
So you use the title "poor performance" and then that is your strongest statement to back this up ??? nice one mate!
@Monty
Buy the phone, play with it, use it and then decide! What other people think might not always apply to you. I do not even have much issues with the battery.
If your want your phone to fly you to the bahamas then I suggest you buy yourself a plane.
This is at this moment the best phone you can buy! no doubt about it, I had the iphone for a week and then got this one. Now I only use the iphone for cutting bread on!

OMFG iphone can cut bread!!111
Kukuirukuwuay: 1 post is hardly spamming and tbh, if thats the best most informed response you can come up ... you should maybe try the American "whatever", at least that has comedy value.
MisterSosa, it does have reviews of it and so what? Peoples(Owners reviews) and more importantly, there day-to-day comments and experiences are vital. Its these bug reports/issues/compliments/"wow look at this feature" posts that help some people decide and whats wrong with that? Like it or not HTC does not make perfect gear, if it did, there would be no need for this site. The bugs people discuss on here are read by the people who create ROM's and sometimes fixed by them. TBH, I wouldn't be suprised if there are HTC developers on this site everyday. I certainly know that Toshiba devs monitor myg900.com
I do agree with you 100% that people see phones diferently and whilst it works for one, it won't work for another. That said, to be "the best phone you can buy!" would take some doo'ing! My experience with HTC hardware (not software) is that this is unlikely to be the case purely on reliability, 10 months down the road it will probably develope hardware failures just like my previous 3 HTC phones (and that doesn't include the factory replacements). Also, "best" depends entirley on your needs. I'm still tempted to wait for the Omni as it will have a 5mp camera built in to it, something that doesn't seem to of sunk into HTC yet! Not to say I won't buy this, I like the form factor and the screen res (im used to 800x480 so this would only be a small downgrade).
However, I now consign myself to the fact that HTC phones only last at most a year and IF I buy this, it will be with that in mind.
This site in particular and similar sites do indeed help people choose there next phone - assuming they are informed enough to look for sites like this and even the OP's post is usefull. Read into it his frustration: Can you not see that his post is actually a complement? It says to me that the OP thinks its an awesome phone .... except this one really minor but pain in the arse thing, the wake-up delay.
Yes your right, i could buy it and then send it back if I don't like it (assuming the shop are going to allow me, they don't have to) but how many times am I going to do that before I get told to get stuffed by the shop(s)? Also, I may also not discover everything I need to about the phone in the two weeks, usualy accepted by shops here in the uk, that I need to and then i maybe stuffed with a phone I don't want.

Completely and utterly wrong...this is a forum, it may very well be a developer forum but as of yet i havent heard any of the moderators in here say that we cannot give any opinions/views on what we think of the phone.
Crikey!!!
Didn't expect this kind of response.
Maybe it is useful for the DEVELOPERS to know how things are working (good or not)??
I have had any number of phones over the years - WinMo HTC, non HTC, Symbian etc. and this is the first one that I am really struggling with.
It is correct to say that it is hard work to get the equipment operating smoothly. The problem I have with that is, even after applying improved ROMS, performance enhancements, registry tweeks etc. the basic function is simply not working correctly. Why does it take so long for the phone to become ready for use?
Maybe a vanilla ROM will improve things, but then again I am left with a shiny shell which is a good phone (I may as well buy a cheap nokia!!).
I would be interested to know if other Diamond users are experiencing terrible lag, long delays and unresponsiveness..
Cheers
mobile not used for 3 hours, was lying on my desk.
press power button slide from all programs to home tab, press the phone button ... pops up immediately, dial colleague number and its dialing.
Where is the lag/delay in this story ?
ever try to close the running applications since the first time you turned it on ?
Thanks ... what ROM are you using - which enhancements have you applied?
Cheers
@MisterSosa and KukurikU
You might not be experiencing it... some are.
If you haven't got any constructive help to add why not go and join another thread? You're not being forced to read our comments but we are unfairly being forced to read yours in a thread that we want to add our experiences to in a calm and collected way.
Now kindly leave the thread so that we can DEVELOP a solution to what some of us see as a problem.

Sorry to hear that Monty, as you can see by my signature I have owned all manor of HTC phones and i havent had to send most of them back (admittidley the C500 had to have the rocker stick repaired on mine and my girlfriends phone but I dealt with HTC direct as orange didnt want to know and HTC were very helpful and within 5 days I had the phone back)
I don't suffer from the lag that a few people in this thread are mentioning.
Ive got a WWE Touch Diamond with Rom Version 1.37.405.1 WWE, ROM Date: 06/10/08 Radio Version 1.00.25.03 and im on tmobile UK. My TouchFLO 3D version is 1.0.1630.23.
Ive NOT applied ANY tweaks to my phone at all, no registry edits, hacks or Rom updates and my phone works without lag when trying to make a phone call.
How long does your take, in secs, from when you have pressed the power button at the top to wake the phone up to when you press the Phone button (the left phone softkey?)
Where do you experience the problem? Do you find its when you use TouchFLO 3D? Or can you goto ALL PEOPLE from the PEOPLE TAB on TouchFLO 3D and its still laggy?
Sorry to hear your having problems guys but this forum is here to help you.
Thanks .. I see you are using an uncooked rom. Have you applied any of the registry tweeks etc.?

Are you a victim of trying new things?

I have had a htc g1 t mobile in 100% working condition for a long period of time. a month ago i rooted the phone ( and i was successful), downgraded the phone to rc29 and tried to put the hero firm ware into my phone. in the process of trying to put the new firm ware i came across some difficulties and now, as what they say "bricked" my phone. immediately as this happened i was able to reach such screens as holding the end key and the camera key landing upon a white page with some options. not having much knowledge i played around with it and now my phone is completely unresponsive. all it will do is start up and stay on the g1 spalsh home screen and only when i take out the battery will it shut of. holding down any certain keys together does not seem to help. i have also given my phone to such companies as SN traders who were unsuccessful in repairing it as they said " they could not identify the problem". perhaps they never really tried. but the point is, i want my phone to work again. do you have any suggestions as to what i may do to bring my phone back to life or perhaps suggest a place to go to that will repair it for a fee. Please help . thanks in advance

Victim is definitely the wrong term to use in your case. This is exactly why the Devs put a disclaimer up reccomending you don't try this unless you are confident in what you are attempting to do.
At the end of the day, it's your hardware and your choice whether or not you choose to tinker with such things. As a side note, if you were able to get a screen with some options on it, you were probably able to reflash at that point but decided to "mess around" with it instead of coming here for solid info.
Sorry for your loss.

arbab01, perhaps you misunderstood.
this part of the forum is for development. There is a wonderful Q & A section that experienced g1 users such as myself tend to frequent (yes it is nice to help people out every once and a while).
Also, its part of the rules.

You're a moron. If you try to "attract" people to this thread with a misleading title, people will simply use their back button when they realize they've been duped. No one in their right mind is going to help you if you try to trick them into it. How stupid are you?
POST IN THE RIGHT SECTION, SERIOUSLY.
Mods: Ban the Noobs who cant use search or google.
To noob: buy a 20 dollar phone or go back to stock cause you are not tech savy enough to own/mess around with a g1. Also look for local colleges that teach a course on "googling"
now for the advice: you bricked your phone. its useless now. you are screwed. see above message.

I actually used to do one or the other -- helping out or pressing back -- but it's getting ridiculous. If some guy is strolling along the grass with a "DO NOT WALK" sign in plain sight, is it really necessary to carry him off or ignore it? No. You yell at him so he gets the hell off himself and doesn't make that mistake again. And hopefully, spectators will see that such behavior will not be tolerated of them, either.
This is supposed to be a development section. Besides, XDA has too many users dragging it down as is. If this guy never posts here again, great, one less problem.
I cant believe this thread is still open..
and i hope he never posts again
If you can't boot in to the bootloader (camera + power) or the recovery menu (home + power) then it's dead. The only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard, but I doubt you'll be able to get a third party to do that for you. If you have a contract with tmo, go in to the store and act dumb, just say that that's what the phone does after you updated it. They should give you a replacement. If not, enjoy your paper weight.
Seriously guys, even if someone posts in the wrong section you might aswell help. But I'm sure it's much more satisfying to throw a hissy-fit >.>

thanks for ur sincere reponse. unfortuantly i got this phone from a local person here in ontario who i suppose brought it down from states. Would u know how to replace a mother board or any one who does and how much would it cost?
waaahhhhh...
FOLLOW FORUM RULES AND YOU WONT GET FLAMED. Its easy. All you do when you press the back button, or "just answer their question" is enable people to not do **** on their own and reinstate the fact they dont have to follow the rules. I'm sure we all haven't spent all of our time following the rules to watch someone else get away with completely disregarding them, right?
Besides, if this guy was REALLY trying to fix his phone it wouldnt have taken him a day to get back to anyone...and now its a "mother board" issue? He's wasting our time...
there's a post for a how-to for replacing a motherboard in this forum already....does this guy know where the search button is? He even includes how much you should expect to pay/best way to find one!
i feel bad when people brick their device, but you are a victim of yourself

[Q] Need to KILL Samsung Galaxy Note

Hey guys. Long time reader, first time poster here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note, and I need to KILL it.
By kill, I mean, it has to stop working (wont even get to home screen etc) without taking it apart or anything.
Normally I can do it when an update is available, and I just download the update, and while it's installing, I remove the battery and format the SD card or whatever, and it makes the phone come up with an error message when it turns on.
As I live in Australia, the Galaxy Note has only just been released, and there are no ICS updates or anything for it, so I can't kill it that way.
I figure I'd ask the experts here if ANY of yo know how to do this.
Thanks heaps!
Well.....if you need to kill your phone, just flash this "sbl.bin" by PC ODIN (PDA)
Your phone will be dead (no screen, no lights, no sound.)
Enjoy crazy dude
Why kill it? Couldn't you sell it and make a happy note owner? Use the money for a new phone. Seems like a shame to waste a good phone. I'm sure some devs would appreciate a phone.
Why?
I have a better solution. Donate it to a dev here.

Some context since I have a moment: I Used some type of tool/program to root this thing when I got launch day. I finally broke it on a business trip in Japan last week and I have honestly fell off the forums completely since my son was born about the same time as I originally rooted this thing. That, combined with a partnership I have taken on in business- has essentially taken all free time away and, when my replacement arrived yesterday, I felt completely inept and without any reference point in my head to work from. Sad, I really miss having the time to mess around with my gadgets and I've learned so much here, but I'm really hoping to find some balance soon enough. So on lunch, after a day and a half of searching, I gave up and indeed made a very clumsy post, absent of any real thought-clearly showing some frustration. I Still have no idea where this all in one that I know I used to root this originally went and I certainly posted in the wrong section-no excuse for that- the gentleman has every right to react how he sees fit although after 7 years here I never found any productivity come out of commenting in that manor-so I choose to conduct myself differently from the outset. Appreciate the time and help.

I hear you; five kids, a full time job, and full time school and I try to build ROMs for this device. I understand where your coming from. Not the end of the world. But, as I have said in my threads before, if you make a really silly request, I reserve the right to mess with you about it. That's just me. But, I do it in playfulness, not actual meanness. Be cool, and if you need any help with anything, look me up.

No doubt you have that right and I'm all for bustin chops as well-to a point of course and yours was constructive. But some of the rage that I regularly see come out in comments here really bewilders me-I mean a paragraph about what a blanking idiot someone is or details about what they can go do to themselves- all because they are having trouble with something or even made a thoughtless post (like I did) -makes me want to say- "dude what happened in your day/life to react that strongly over something so insignificant?". Who knows. Anyway, I really appreciate you reaching out and relating to my situation a bit- especially since you clearly have a very busy life yourself-to say the least.

I need help

Hello, I have never posted in this forum before but I really need help, My cousin died a few months ago and ever since we have been trying to bypass his pattern lock, We have tried everything from dusting the phone to see if we could possibly get the pattern somehow that way to watching all his old climbing videos to see if he maybe opened his phone on camera. We are out of options and we do not want to format his phone due to the unknowing of how he died, it does not make sense and we wanna see if he had anything that can help us figure this all out. Is there anything we can do to get past the pattern lock on his phone, currently the phone is in airplane mode because he was living in the USVI and signal and wifi sucked there so at night he would put his phone in Airplane mode.
Thank you for the help.

You say you never posted here before and yet right next to your name it says you've made 30 posts so far and it doesn't lie.. Now regarding the phone, we don't help people bypass passwords/patterns/fingerprint or iris scans or any security at all and the reason we don't help with that is because too many people lie and they're just trying to get a stolen phone unlocked.. If your story is legitimate the phone carrier will help you unlock the phone itself so long as you can prove your story..

Ok so I have not posted since 2011 and forgot I even did, Thanks for being the big man for pointing that out, as to the carrier helping, NO they wont, even with the death certificate and proof of being the father he can not get any help other than a factory reset and that is not what he is looking for, we need the phone to be like it is. Another question would be is there a way to take it out of Airplane mode seeing we do know his login information?

Nope not possible to get it out of airplane mode when the screens locked because if that were possible then a thief could just turn the GPS off and keep the phone hidden.. You're pretty much going to have to read around and search Google..

No help will be provided here, in short this post will be closed by some moderator, legitimate owner ALWAYS can get help from carriers, no matter what, these stories about not getting solutions or help when providing legal proof of ownership are a total lie

No it's not a lie, The help they provide is doing a factory reset on the phone and we want to keep the data, I know of plenty of programs that will remove the pattern lock but none of them will work on the Note 8. I understand people not helping out because of the security risk and the potential of it being a stolen phone.

That is hard to proof what you say is a lie or not. We can all say things here but doesn't mean it's the truth or not.
As said before you won't get any help here on bypassing the FRP. (You'll understand if you lost your phone and someone else is trying to unlock your phone, would you want us to help that thief to unlock your phone and get your important files/banking info?)
Only thing I'll say is try a Samsung service center or even getting the police/lawyers to help.

The thing is we don't know 100% whether it's a lie or not because everyone and I mean everyone who asks us to help them get around the security seems to have some sort of crazy story in order to try to make us think it's legit and they all say the same thing, "I'm not lying." So try to see it from our side.. I don't want to be the person who causes someone else's stuff to be compromised or personal stuff taken or whatever.

So just to be clear, Who does he need to talk to when he goes in? He has all his information and the death certificate. I am going to assume that is the information he will need to prove that he is his dad and that was his son. The only store he has been into so far is in WA and they told him the only thing they could do is a factory reset and like I said we want to keep all data.
And just to be clear not one person said your stupid so not sure why you said that, so many people do not come to places like this to get help because of people like you, there is no reason to act like a smart butt for no reason, we are going through a hard time and just trying to find some answers and all I am doing is asking questions, I can not help the fact that the store he went to told him they will only do a factory reset, that does not turn into anyone lying or anything.

Don't go into the stores call the carrier and talk to them and ask for a manager or a level 3 or 4 technician.

Again, no matter what you say, or your sad or bad situation, NOBODY HERE will help you bypass security locks of any kind, it is just like this, ethical forum rules, you know,
If you have proof that you are a relative of the owner of the device and have their death certificate. You could take the device to Samsung and ask them to unlock it for you. However Samsung will probably ask allot of questions and request that you provide official documentation to prove that you are a relative of the deceased person who owned the device.
However nobody in this forum will provide you with any assistance on unlocking the device. As we do not know if the device was obtained illegally.
Honestly I'm not sure even the carrier or one of their techs can bypass the screenlock. If anyone can, it would have to be Samsung.
Remember a couple years ago, the terrorist couple in California who killed several people? The FBI confiscated their iPhones as evidence, and they couldn't bypass the screenlock. The carrier couldn't do it. They went to Apple, who said they could but refused the court order. The FBI finally got a hacker to do it for them.
Not sure if Samsung is as picky as Apple, but if Apple wouldn't unlock an iPhone to potentially prevent more terrorist action, I doubt Samsung will do it to view some family member's videos.
Not trying to be cold about it, but it's a fact.

I don't think Samsung will do that period and even if they did do that, they're absolutely going to factory reset the phone and he doesn't want them to delete anything and unfortunately that just seems suspicious that someone would want or have a need for another person's personal information.. There's no getting around the fact that it seems suspicious even if he is being honest so I'm certain that they'd factory reset it either way.

I don't think it's suspicious he wants to get into a deceased loved ones phone. When my first wife died, it was a blessing to have her password for her phone. Knowing one of the last things she saw was a text from me, etc.

That said, there's no way to prove his story is legit. And I doubt Samsung or anyone will break into the device

Yeah I get that and totally understand but Samsung isn't going to feel sorry or anything all they're going to be thinking about is protecting themselves from a lawsuit you know.

If he has offical documents proving that he is the relative of the deceased. I am sure that Samsung would be more than willing to help him unlock the device for them. Seeing as Samsung has at hand.

Even if Samsung does take him to court. If the court finds that the documents proving that he is a relative of the decease are genuine. They will order Samsung to do as he asked ASAP. I doubt that Samsung will take him to court if he does have the official documents at hand.

I'm pretty sure that you read my message wrong.. Anyhow, all I can say is good luck with that, haha! No one's going to order Samsung to do anything!
