The Nook has problems charging from anything but the included cable and adapter. Use those.

The Nook's charger is abit Flimsy and if you're not careful it can break in some way, shape, or form. I'm on my 3rd replacement cable(each one broke in a unique way). Thankfully B&N will send you a free replacement. Just call the Nook Support Number and order a replacement (Must be to a US address). Make sure if they ask that you tell them you got it from B&N even if you didn't, just in case.

He may not be so far off the mark. I had the same problem, the first time my nook would not charge it was because the USB cable had died, and the NC would not register it. The second time though happened with CM7, under CM7 the NC would not charge, yet when I restored it to stock 1.3 it charged fine and fast.
There may be a problem with the code to charge the NC in CM7. When it did charge it was slow, then it just stopped charging all together. I have reverted back to a rooted stock rom, so that the thing will charge.

[Q] Screen problem

The touch control on my nook is out of control. It came so sudden, nothing seems to trigger it. Is it a hardware problem or software problem? I don't want to return it as I'm in Korea now...
CWR flashed NF 0.6.7, just bought a day ago.
This happens when my NC is plugged in with the charger that came with it. I'm trying to get a replacement from B&N. Works fine with the charger that came with my Droid and Droid X. Being an Android smartphone user prior to the NC, I know that lots of people had this problem on their Android smartphones when they used cheap, generic third-party microUSB cables.
Or clean your screen. Lots of people are reporting funky screen behavior due to dirty screens.
Unplug it and turn down the brightness amf see how it goes.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
cleaning the screen seems helps, but it is so annoying if happens on the street... I can't always bring my microfiber cloth with me.
Why are you playing with this in the street?
Are you using a screen protector? If not it.should help.

I had mine plugged in and updated to the newest softkeys, unplugging it, restarting it, and not giving softkeys superuser after restarting it stopped it for me.

if you use a non B&N charger, the NC won't register that it's charging, but it actually is. you can watch the battery percentage go up as time passes. it just charges more slowly.
What eyecrispy said.
I don't know how much juice the backflip's charger carries. My Droid and DX chargers carry lots of juice; lesser chargers can't keep up with their usage. Also, I've heard that the NC's OEM charger has two extra pins that let it fast charge. So, another cable may charge more slowly in comparison. I think the extra pins are also what causes the issue that eyecrispy described with the NC showing that it's charging only with the OEM charger. By the way, I think that only happens with the stock Nook software (rooted or not). With Nookie Froyo on internal memory, it shows charging with both the OEM and my DX's chargers.
I've noticed that battery meter being all over the place on this thing. Sometimes it doesn't reach 100% (stays at 99%). Sometimes after I've had it plugged in for a while the battery meter looks like it hasn't gained any additional charge, but a minute later it updates.
NookieFroyo registers the charging on screen

Is B&N still replacing charger cables at no charge?

Shame... mine was replaced after 3 months but is failing again a year later. Why wouldn't they just use a standard cable?

Yeah it was my only real gripe about the Nook Color. Terrible cable design. I always found myself feeling jealous of the special bent tipped cables they used at the B&N store displays. When I asked about them it turns out they're specially made for B&N for use with the Display Security System and are impossible to get Retail. Bummer.

From what I understand, a standard cable didn't provide enough power to charge the battery quickly enough. If you use a regular cable it'll charge but take a long time. There should be a good open power & data standard for connectors though.
I'm kind of irritated...I requested a replacement cable almost a year ago, and they told me they would send it out right away. I check in with them again a few months later, and they said that they were behind on orders and that it'd be shipped out when they get it. I still haven't received it...

I had the same thing happen. After a month or so I went to a local store and they checked and saw my order and just gave me one.
Can you just take it in to a store or do you need to verify how long ago you bought it?

Depends on the store. I had some say they just took the old cable in and they exchanged it. At my store they wanted the serial number so they could look it up to verify it was still under warranty.

FYI, I received one out of warranty from the web site I called in. it broke within a month. However, something happened to my nook and it now works with my standard droid cable?
I'm almost afraid to post this, but wanted to share so others could try different cables.
Good Luck
Ha. The Barnes & Noble store I just went to told me I needed to buy their charger and cable bundle for $25 because my NC would break if I ever used a standard cable.
My wife has a NC and in the past 10 months has gotten 2 new cables and chargers. They threw em in for the heck of it. Now the charging port is very sloppy and finicky how it gets plugged in and they are sending her a new NC.

According to leapinlar's thread (and my personal experience), the Nook Color will charge through a standard micro-usb cable, but much more slowly than it will with the included cable. The standard cable is likely to charge at 1.9 Amps, while a standard micro-USB will probably supply 0.5 Amps.

I doubt it. It looks like the pins are different. I think the Nook pins are just a little behind the normal pins and that is why the snout is longer. With the HTC pins, they are forward and beside the normal pins. Look at the picture here. Plus it has that little dimple in the middle.

Me too, but my fiance had to replace hers when it cracked, seemingly on its own.

Exactly...
The plastic end cracks open and the cable quits charging. My last one lasted 3 weeks and I was VERY careful with it. I am currently using a standard usb cable to charge via computer. It take 6 to 8 hrs to fully charge. Wish there was an aftermarket 12 pin cable that would work!

I have had trouble with at least 3 cables going bad. I've never had problems with USB cables, but these cheap and poorly designed Nook Color cables are awful.

I have not had any problems but there have been many reported problems which BN has accepted and therefore offers free warranty replacement of the USB special cables. Just call BN and they send a new one.
The HP touchpad charger/cable works great on the nook.

battery issues!

ok, I recently replaced my bionic due to a shattered screen. the one verizon sent me didn't come with a battery so I'm using the same old one. so when I rooted my phone on ics, a couple weeks later I noticed that my phone was taking awhile to recharge. with the battery hd app it said that from about ted percent it would take nearly 4 hours to charge! as opposed to the usual hour, hour an a half. then I updated to jelly bean an due to my internal storage becoming unmounted, I had to fxz an lost root altogether. so after getting my internal storage back an waiting what seemed like a month for a root exploit, my battery was back to charging normally, which was pretty sweet. so today I booted ubuntu an rooted my bionic using the samba exploit recreated by the master genius of moto exploits himself, all hail Dan! after playing around an getting back to my old setup I drained a full battery. I plugged in an yet again battery hd. is reporting a 4 hour charge time, plugged into ac! so my question is, does anyone know what could be causing this?! from what I know so far it seems that having root access is the cause. but I can't put the two together an understand how that is an I don't have the kinda time for a 4 hour wait on a charge....somebody help!

wow i'm like the only dude ever to post a thread an not get a single reply. thanks for the help xda community
So battery hd (whatever that it) predicts a 4hour charge time. How long did it take? If you don't wait for a full charge, how do you expect this app to calibrate to your new rom?

three hours and fifty six minutes the first time. plugged in hdmi an played some movies for the kids until it died, four hours and seven minutes the second time. third time, three hours and forty two minutes. thats the lowest charge time so far, but that was just yesterday i havent timed anything today. so, you were saying?
So before you were sad because nobody answered, now you're mad because I did.
Is the only difference being rooted, or is it a different rom or charger or cable? My phone charges fast on stock with my moto wall charger, but slower on cm. If I use an LG charger it's slower, and on usb it continues to discharge if I'm on lte. I also have trouble with a couple of different usb cables.
But if it's the same charger in the same outlet, and the only difference is being rooted, then I have no good answer for you.
I bought a spare moto battery and charger on ebay for about $15, so as long as my spare is charged before the one in my phone is empty then I never really worry about charge times.

who's sad? an why would i be mad? you've made false assumptions pretty much every post. i thought we were talking about phones...
actually...yea being rooted is the only difference. from what i can tell anyway. i think i'm going to restore a backup from early last week an see how it acts after that. an yea i'm right there with you on discharging when plugged into usb. but last night it was actually discharging when plugged into the wall! that was with wifi tether going, my laptop and two other phones tethering off my bionic. first time its drained like that under any conditions. a little off topic, but i still have a backup saved from when i was on 4.0.4 just before the update to 4.1.2, will there be any conflicts if i restore that backup, system data an all, because one is ics an the other is jb??
No, you can't go back to ICS from jb as the security has changed. At best trying to restore your backup will fail, but it's very possible that you will brick your phone.
Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk 2
yea i figured as much. an after checking i now remember i deleted that backup after learning what you just mentioned seeing as an ics titanium backup is forever useless after the last update. now that i am sad about, that was the best dam setup i ever had lol

Battery randomly dropping to 1%?

Anyone else had this problem? It would drop to 1% even when a sec ago it was at 66% life..reboot temp fix but only to drop back to 1%.. this is on the latest version Slimbean HD. Also i had this ROm working fine for the first few months without this error but for some reason its just now happening and becoming more frequent
Have the same, BATT will drop to 1% and sometimes recover. I think my battery is defective.

They have a one year warranty. And they came out about a year ago. So unless you bought it when they first arrived, it probably is still in warranty.

Are people still having this issue?
I purchased two 32gb nook hd + and installed Kitkat. Both have this issue where the battery suddenly drops to 1%. Then after a little bit it shuts down. Then I have to plug it in to get it back up. Once it boots up the battery shows where it is.
Now, if I reboot as soon as it drops to 1% (but not yet shutdown) it will show the accurate charge level for the battery.
Another note: This happens to the two 32GB nook HD+ we have. The two 16GB nook hd+ are not affected. All are using cyanogenmod.

Out of curiosity, are you charging both the 32GB and the 16 GB units similarly? That is, do you charge them all every day (whether they need it or not) or do you wait on all of them to get to 15%, etc.?
Current conventional wisdom is that it's better to top off a Li-ion battery frequently than to let it discharge a lot and then charge it back up. So it'd be interesting to know what charging schedule those who are having this 1% problem are having.
