Hey folks!
So I have been running froyo by laszlo for the longest time but decided to switch back to Donut.
I'm currently running dwang-v1.17.1 and I love how fast it is, the ability to play 3D games and all that other good stuff. I've also used a kernel to OC to 691 without any problems
Anyway, my question is.. Is it possible to somehow manipulate the system into showing that it is running Android 2.x + ??
I want to be able to run a couple more apps, more specifically WhatsApp Messenger..but it is incompatible with 1.6
If anyone has a possible solution, please let me know. Even if it's an idea..I'm kind of desperate here.
Thank you in advance for your replies. Much appreciated
You can fake it by editing the build.prop, but it will not help you. Newer apps are using different Android-APIs and apps programmed against those APIs will not be able to run on older Android versions.

Hey AndDiSa, thanks for your reply.
Is there a way around that? What I mean is, is there a way to 'fake' the details of the Android-API's?
Or is that like trying to squeeze orange juice out of a banana..lol
You need to install a custom rom which supports the new APIs, i.e. Eclair / Froyo or Gingerbread, there are no other chances.
OK, cool. Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated =)

Hello, i recnetly upgraded to 2.1 when it came out, it did all the updates etc, and once i got to use it. its seems to be SO much slower/laggier than b4, was fine b4, but now internet, apps, and pretty much everything has a delay, any1 got same problems?
Im thinking the new 2.1 takes more RAM/CPU like xp to vista, so is there a way to make it faster? Overcloking widget? plz help
Are you rooted? If not, then do it. Install one of the many ROMs available and you can even flash a 1.5 ROM back onto your phone. I think the kernel needs to be changed to enable overclocking, but some of the ROMs have it with the SetCPU Widget.
Please use the Search function in the forum as you can probably find most of your answers by doing so.
What ur favorite rom for the hero to use?
I suggest Fresh 2.1.2. Very fast, very stable.
Hi,
great site........
I'm trying to get my 2.1 software upgraded HTC hero back to 2.0. My phone worked great with my in car blue tooth system before the stoopid 2.1 update and I just need it working again.
please help...
Thanks guys........

There is no 2.0. It's either the original 1.5 or the current 2.1. You can root your device and install a custom ROM of whatever you can find here if you choose. There is a really nice version of 2.2 in the Dev section if you want to go that way. If you do some searching you'll find all the info you need to accomplish this.

hummm? it must have had the 1.5 then prior..........
I wonder if the 2.2 would fix my issue.....
let me see if i can find the threads your talking about...
Thank you,

2.2 has a rc1 and nightly builds. May or may not work with your Bluetooth better, it does not have sense. I prefer that, its quick and zippy.
Otherwise I'd suggest trying the custom 2.1 roms and if they don't work and you want to go back to 1.5 I highly suggest digging up an old custom 1.5 rom rather than go stock.
You might even get some help figuring out how to get the drivers from 1.5 into a custom 2.1 or maybe 2.2 if you're patient.

I don't know if another 2.1 would help you, don't they all use the same bluetooth stack?
Do 2.2 ROMs use the same bluetooth stack?

Not positive but worth a try. If 1.5 stack worked I thought maybe it could be merged or swapped into a 2.1 if he wanted to do the work. I could be wrong

2.1 bluetooth drivers were pretty broken. I highly recommend trying 2.2, as it is much improved

Loading the xml files to Tasker
I am a new just a few weeks into Tasker and I see all of these great xml files people have created, however, I do not know how to execute them once I have loaded them into my tasker directory in my phone. I have created a few simple things and I am reading some articles called Pocketables and other things about Tasker. But I have seen all this xml files that are already built and "ready to go" but I can not load and execute them in Tasker and can not find any material where it defines "how to."
I have tried various ways unsuccessfully and if some gentle soul would like to give me a hand I would appreciate it. It would appear you would create a Task and select a category, then file, but this is where I am really hung up at this point. I have tried various different ways and so far nothing works. Gary
I have been thinking for a long time every possible way to get flash player on the Milestone with 2.1 roms.
We all know that there is possible to enable flash on some HTC devices due to the fact that they have flash lite embedded on their browser, so just replacing the flash version and doing some minor changes you get a fully working flash enabled browsing experience.
The problem here is the following, it seems that the stock 2.1 browser is unable to load any third party plugins, while the modiffied 2.1 and stock 2.2 browser can do without trouble. Unfortunately i am no developer and i dont have the knowledge to do an in-depth research about this or if this is even possible at all, even though it sounds pretty easy at first glance.
So im just tossing the idea here and it would be appreciated if some dev could give it a try anytime, or at least, explain here why it's impossible to get flash working on Eclair roms. Thanks in advance for the reply.
I've been searching for this same solution.. I stumbled upon AuxLV who did some work but I believe abandoned his project due to lack of time. . I don't doubt its possible because AuxLVs work went in a totally different direction.. can't be too much keeping froyo flash from eclair.. but I'm no dev so I wouldn't know. Simply by upgrading a xt720 flash is enabled. . Just doesn't seem to complexed in logic.. and no one wants to talk.. hmm.
Hi everyone.
I'm sort of a beginner in this but still already flash some phones (g2, gravity, cliq, ...)
The hardest part for me now is to update this G1 that I have. It's a 32b devices
I've rooted, installed a new radio, dangerspl, spl-signed everything was a little bit confusing there for a while.
I've got Cyanogenmod 6 running on it. But I find it slow not so "stable" (it's working just feels very lagy with some fc). I'm guessing there's something missing.
What do you guys recommend for me to do so I can get a faster, updated rom on that phone?
Need some with at least android 2.1 on it
what partitions on sdcard? ext2 or ext3? pls advice
& have some patience with my request

Are you using setcpu to overlock your phone? If you're running a cyanogen rom or cyanogen based rom the overclock kernel is included, you just need setcpu from the market, or you can get it for free here on xda. It will allow you to overclock. If you are already overclocking, and you need a 2.1+ rom, I suppose you could try SuperE or SuperFly, they are fairly fast.

Personally I'd steer clear of Cyan roms until your more comfortable with setting things up, personally I don't use cyans but thats my choice.
I'd go with either EZterry's asop or the new enom 'official' that is out and has a few more configurable options. All the fun of the fair without the bloatware cm roms have and will ease you into the world of flashing
Relevant post, Gottijr, and thanks for responders. I got a G1 (with DMD64, 1.6 official tmob US latest upgrade) from fleabay for my daughter recently. I'm an experienced Winmo ROM modder/uploader/tweaker for years, but after many many hours of reading over the last few days I'm still a bit confused about what's really appropriate for this phone.
I've rooted so far, but can't seem to get a modified recovery image working ( likely due to dmd64 build?). Mainly curious what I should strive for in that I want primarily stability and app to SD since the internal memory is so limited. Not sure the Cyanogen mod is the right choice since I don't want daily use to require any tweaking. What would the experts recommend?
I don't want to hijack the thread here, but seems like a similar predicament.
Wipe?
With the newer CyanogenMod stuff I have found that wiping and reflashing the same ROM in recovery seems to help substantially on the FCs and lagginess.
I'm not sure why the full wipe / reflash works, but I suppose it has something to do with the inability to do a complete wipe. I haven't tried the new uber wipe that just came out, but I would be curious to see if that had better results as a starting point for a ROM install.
Also, I found I was happier on CyanogenMod with LauncherPlus over the included ADW Launcher. Though that was on the beta of 6.1 and I know the 6.1 stable has a newer version of ADW which might have addressed some of its annoyances.
I recommend setting up Titanium Backup for apps or using Droid Explorer to pull a backup of your ideal application environment. This will make swapping out ROMs quick for testing out what works for you.

For speed and stability its difficult to beat the SuperD 1.11 rom ....essentially a donut (1.6) rom stripped and then filled with 2.1 (eclair) goodness. Sweet.
Hello fellow earthlings!
My friend has a SGS, and it is still running the stock froyo 2.2.1. It is not rooted nor has any history of hacking. She asked me to update her phone to CM10. Can anybody tell me where to start and what to do? Any links? Or are CM10 roms stable already?
I would be grateful for anyone willing to help me.
Are you sure that's a good idea? Despite what everyone might tell you CM10 isn't exactly stable yet. If you update it for her she might have to rely on you to fix her problems all the time since she didn't learn how to update it herself.

Well, this might be a reason to do the upgrade
My experience:
I had a 2.3.6 stock GB. It was very good but sometimes I noticed problems (lagging, app force closes, etc.). Not much, but I got annoyed and secondly I wanted to know what is all the hype around the CM. So I flashed CM9. Very nice, smooth, same battery life, but missing some of the applications, TouchWiz and got some errors as well (see this). I do not have much time (and experience either) to flash every day and I want a stable system, so I will not go for CM10 for some time.
Was it a good idea after all? Yes and no. I had to reinstall everything (CM9 uses different file system, some apps do not remember its settings, etc.), had to look for a new launcher (a word I did not know existed ) had to sort out birth illnesses. On the other hand I received a new system, a new experience and I know that if I would perform a system change it will be an upgrade to CM10, not a downgrade. Possibly I might do even a sidegrade - switching to a different developer. But obviously I will stick with the most known brands (AOKP, MIUI).
Hope I helped you.

you should and must update it to the latest firmware for your phone , which is gingerbread 2.3.6
so you have two options....
1) use KIES and let it do the job for you
2) use Odin3 and flash the latest Gingerbread ROM for your region from here or here
you must have this for any upgrade...so do this first and and see, how it suits you or her
