Help finding a ROM? - HTC Incredible S

Hey guys.
I'm currently on Android Revolution HD and its good, but some things I don't like (I went to it to get better battery, but it's been about the same as stock ROM)
Basically, all I want from a ROM is this:
Good Battery Life
HTC Sense 2.1 or Higher
Also, does anyone know if nay of the newer Sense Rom's (Sense 3.0, Sense 3.5) Have better battery life then ARHD?
Thanks

If u like sense then u need to try Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 or Nikhil's Trinity Sensation XL Sense 3.5. I would go for the later as its very fast, responsive and pretty much bug free. Not bad battery life if u use the phone right, but Download oc/uv beater from the first page of the post and change ur governor settings to wake smoothass and sleep smartass and ull see a noticeably difference. I went nearly 35 hours without charging and average usage.

Hey, thanks for the reply
Have you possibly got links for these? It sounds a bit too technical, I'm fairly new to Rooting and such

They can both be found in the development section.

Found the ROM, just can't find the ov/uv you're referring to?
Edit: No worries, found it.
Thanks very much, shall try that out
Anyone else have experience with a few different Rom's?

Hey guys. Sorry to post twice, but I can't find the Smoothass setting in the Oc/Uv App?

[Q] best kernel for battery life

yes, i searched the forum... but there doesnt seem to have been any info on this since may, and it wasnt for cm6. there are other device specific threads on cm6, but what about for our n1s?
so, whats the best kernel for cm6 on nexus one in terms of battery life?
Try Enom's ROM, or the MIUI ROM
That doesn't help him. He wants cm kernels, its obvious that is what he is looking for.

When on CM6, I've tried wildmonk's and pershoot's. Several versions of both. And hey, none of them really made a difference, though I think one of pershoot's was a bit more helpful. CM6 drains battery like a blackhole, so yeah, have a charger handy at all times.
Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something obvious for cm6. I'm running wildmonks and underclock to 128 when idle. Batt life is better than stock...but just checking.

CM7 vs Sense Battery Life

There should be a thread for this in every phone section.. For those who have recently changed from the infamous sense to the Vanilla Gingerbread Experience ie. CM7, how do you find the battery life. Better or worse? And if there are any kernels that you find give it much more juice in a charge please list below. I find that after my CM7 'upgrade' without any kernel changes that I am getting much better life in a day.

I guess there isn't that many CM7 users yet.

It's the main reason I want to s-off my cell phone right now. Battery life is next to nothing with Sense.
If it weren't for Android 2.3.3., we would all be using rooted Incredible S's.
Actually there are quite a few CM7 users now, if the download stats are to be believed.
Just a minor point: CM7 is not 'vanilla' Android at all, it has quite a lot of extra features, tweaks and customisations compared to the base Android system.
I'm in a dilemma right now.
I got my Incredible S a few days ago and everything works fine. After a bit of reading, I figured I was lucky to have the 2.2.1 version of the phone since it would allow me to either S-Off it or upgrade to Gingerbread.
Sense is fine and all, but I'm thinking of rooting the phone to be able to install custom roms in order to get better performance and more customization options. I'm mostly wondering how 2.3 with sense runs on the Incredible S compared to 2.2 with sense.
So root or go gingerbread with sense, which is the best thing to do?
Im using CM7 RC1 - have been since i s-off'd my IncS about 3-4months ago
cm7 on here has been clean, with no major issues - battery life for me has been great, im quite a heavy user, listen to alot of music, always tweeting or on facebook.
for me it lasts the whole day and feels to be better than when i was on stock sense.
Sense had too much other stuff running whilst i was "playing about" and would drain the battery alot quicker.
For me CM7 is the ideal rom for this phone, ive tried others but always came back to CM7

Simple. Root and then install a ROM that's based on the official Gingerbread update... you can have it all!

Just don't upgrade OTA to the official 2.30.405.1.
Read more here.
i've always found that sense was waay too much, i mean too much comes out of the box.
For me battery in CM7 works a bit longer then it stock, but in revolution hd + nosense script battery works even longer.
Also another reason I like it so much if because its using android almost the way it was supposed top be used.. Not with all of the bloatware and stuff
Swyped from my HTC Incredible S
I tried sense for a few days and it lasted about 23 hours on average. I installed Cyanogenmod7 just now, I'll come back with an update!
Am on Android Revolution HD after rooting and the battery life is better compared to the stock HTC 2.2 or 2.3 ROM. I have the Sense 3.0 addon installed with ARHD - a full charge usually lasts me 1.5days with moderate usage.
I think i'm gonna try ARHD with no sense script and see how it lasts..
MODS/ADMINS: Can you please change the title of this thread to "Comparing ROM Battery Life" or something of the genre.
Much appreciated.
I've been using Cyanogenmod7 for a few days now and I can't say that I've noticed any significant differences with Sense.

[Q] Custom rom that has "smooth" scrolling

I am a bit of a weirdo. I tend to see the frames per second in daily life much more than other people. I see overpowerd LEDs flicker, i see the Hz of CRT screens, I see the refresh rate of plasma TVs... and so on.
This is pretty annoying for me as it is. So what bothers me a lot is the scrolling on android! How low of fps is that?? It is NOTHING compared to the scrolling fps on an iphone. I know my inc s can do smooth scrolling cuz some games have it. I googled it and it seems connected to hardware acceleration.
Now my question:
Is there a custom rom that has this smooth scrolling?
Try Android Revolution HD rom by mike1986. It worked out well and it is much more smoother than other ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088498
Download that ROM and flash it.
Ask if you have any trouble in installing it.
Thanks for the reply. By "smoother", i don't mean the response time when you press some thing or the load time of applications.
My major concern is swiping/scrolling up and down in a menu like 'settings'.
I have unlocked my phone with htcdev and lost all my phone data... sigh... my own fault, i had to read the disclaimer stating it will be wiped to protect personal data. I'm new to this custom rom/bootloader/radio flashing so i still have a lot of reading to do. I just wonder if it is worth it.

Try cyanogenmod

I use RCMix3d Runny v4.0 (sense 3.5 and android 2.3.5) as a daily rom. Works pretty nice for me.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345742
I got 3 replies, presenting 3 different roms.
Can anyone verify that the scrolling is high fps in these roms?
Talking about the three Roms given as suggestion for smooth scrolling,it depends. If you like sense, try rcmix Rom.If you prefer non-sense stock feel, try either of the two(I'd go with ARHD).
If you'd like to get smoothness without installing custom Rom,try downloading a custom launcher such as LauncherPro.
If you want the purest smooth scrolling on either sense or non-sense roms,I suggest waiting for a good Ice cream sandwich Rom,the hardware acceleration should definately bring the desired butter smooth feeling(as evident in ics alpha 3.0)
Something to choose from, but the best way would be to just test roms/launchers and see for yourself. After all, almost everyone has their own opinion.
Hope that helps.
eXcito.

I just switched to the new Android Revolution HD 2.1.12 (was using 1.something before) and instantly noticed that the scrolling was a lot smoother than before. I'm having the same problem as you and though this is still not iPhone smoothness it's way better than the stock smoothness.
And with No-Sense (disables bloat Sense-Software but not Sense entirely) you also have a very good footprint meaning more free RAM then stock or Cyanogen. The Launcher from No-Sense is GoLauncher EX which is smooth too.
Just give it a try.
For me the smoothest, bug free has been Virtuous Affinity 1.48. Give it a shot, I'm sure you will like it.
Different people different opinion.
To sum up:
Sense roms u can try:
ARHD
Nik's trinity
Virtuous Affinity
RCmix 3d
No-Sense:
CM 7.1
MIUI
cyanogenmod is the fastest and smoothest rom for incredible s bar none - i dont think anyone could argue with that. it just lacks some of the sense functionality.
if i were you, i would definitely start with it, and ive tried them all except the nik one at different times, always returning to cyanogenmod.

Yeah that is a problem. I went to sense because of it but that only lasted for a day as I missed the speed and ease of use of cm7. Btw I just installed the stock gingerbread launcher from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933517 and it has alot less lag than the adw launcher

Hi incrediblealex,
I would suggest taking a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384852
It is very experimental, but if you are so fixated on "smoothness" and are willing to sacrifice a couple of other things for it, then the hardware acceleration will satisfy your needs.
Hope you find something to suit you.

[Q] Any suggestions for a decent ROM? :)

Hi everyone. I would just like some suggestions ( with links if possible ) of any good ROMs out there. I've used a few before, CM7's, CoreDroid's, the ICS ROM, Android Revolution and Nik Triity sensation XL's. So if anyone knows any other cool ROM that's fast and has a good battery life, do share! THANK YOU!
If your top priority is battery life, there's no question that cm7 is as good as it gets. The best way to find roms is to go through the development forum and just keep browsing. The most active topics are the most frequently updated, while there are still good ones to find two or three pages deep. You will not find anything here that you cannot find there

+1 for MIUI. It's smooth, looks amazing, has well integrated features and paired up with a decent kernel gives excellent battery life to.
Basically if you're rooted, you're not stuck with one ROM anyway. Just give them all a go, and pick your favourite
I advise you Virtuous Affinity, if you prefer the original Sense look, and still has good battery life with Juice Defender.
I installed MIUI ICS v4 beta ROM, and it's great so far. Before I've been on older development MIUI. Try it I definetely recommend it
Virtuos affinity .. not a big fan of sense so just flash no sense script and enjoy the better battery life ..
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
You can see a list of ROMs with their relevant links at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463
Few of the good ones with HTC Sense (I prefer sense) are Android Revolution HD, Virtuos Affinity and Niks Trinity.
As mentioned above if you are rooted you can try them all Use titanium backup to backup your stuff on sd card before you start flashing else you will loose your data.
Thanks everyone! Will definitely be trying MIUI and the other ROMs mentioned. Cheers!
Another quick question tho, can anyone tell me if there are any ICS ROM now which is good? Good in the sense that everything works because I think one of them has the camera or camcorder not working? Not sure which but yeah.. Would love to try out an ICS ROM which works beautifully
Another vote for CM7, I am using it on my HTC Inc S and loving it.
CM7 is definitely a good choice if you don't care much about the UI looks. Htc sense is a resource hog but hey it makes your phone so much more beautiful ;-)

Well CM7 is good, but it has its drawback like the low volume in call (compared to sense ROM) and worse camera driver. I'm rocking ARHD with ROM cleaner so I can keep apps I like and remove everything else that makes it slow. Using it with ADW Ex, smooth like butter. Best of both worlds lol.

Best ROM (I know this question has been asked a lot of times)

Hi,
I am tired of trying new ROMs daily and want to settle down with one ROM. Currently i am on Ice cold sandwich and always come back to this ROM after trying any other ROM. My dream ROM would be with HTC sense (3.6 or 4 any would do) with fast ice cream sandwich. Speed and stability is important for me. Please suggest some good ROMs.
Thanks

I think, yes. But we don't have Sense 4.1 right now. But we will get it surely when we get a port from the new Desire X. But with the kernel from lost.prophet and the governor lionheart the ROM seems very smooth to me. It feels great, but try it yourself - it's all about taste
you should try the official pre-root rom, if the stability is your main key. I use the rooted official rom, sense 3.6 on ics. The speed is not bad but not so fast.
Because I use this phone for getting my job done and little chat with my friends. Next year I will flash the custom rom, when htc is no longer issue any updates for this phone.

The best ROM is the one that works best for your requirements on your phone.
Each ROM has certain features, some USPs and some shortcomings, but ALL ARE GOOD! Or else they wouldn't be showcased by the respective ROM developers (thank god htcphones has been banned).
So check each one out, try them in your daily usage pattern and then select one. Asking others what's good for me is like choosing a girlfriend/ partner and asking others to test and tell if she's OK!

I am coming from 2.3.5 which had a 3 day average use for me. Not happy with performance buy happy that I have ICS. If my provider didn't stop development I'd be still on 2.3.5 until stable release. I'm also using Nik Project X. Even though the ICS experience is so much better than GB, the battery life is not comparable. I could get at least 4 days with Nik Trinity XL. With Project X, I get 3 days roughly. I'm using the same settings I used to have with Trinity XL but battery performance could not match Project X. I'm still happy about the ICS's smoothness.

Auto-brightness, how often things sync with the internet, how good of an area are you in for signal reception. Even having your phone on silent will give you better battery life: if your constantly getting messages from whatsapp etc instead of playing a sound for message notification.
My phone will get to about 8pm with 70% battery, but then i talk to people on whatsapp and my battery goes down to about 10%.
