Hello all,
I am about to get a Vodafone Nexus One. It's secondhand so don't know anything about it. (As in AMOLED/SLCD, or anything about it)
The reason I got it is I just bricked my HTC Desire, flashing a corrupt fastboot N1 Partition table (Learnt my MD5 Lesson). Prior to that I had been rooting, s-off'ing flashing away, happy as can be. Not too much adb, but see I will learn more.
The main reason I'm getting an N1, is all my time was spent trying to get to FRG81, and stripped down froyo's. I regularly used a Cyanogen Mod ROM's. So why buy another Desire, and faff around with all the junk!
Do have a few question though:
I'm on T-mobile UK will I have any problems with that?
And does anyone have any tips for me prior to receiving it?
Please any advice a head of time is appreciated!
Cheers
You won't have any problem with it on Tmo. If you're planning on running stock for a bit, Voda have their own version, but its easy to bin it for Google's offering.
Thanks for that, am getting stuck in to the new reading.....
To root or not to su that is the question.
Well so different the N1 and Desire, but sure it will get easier.

Root it!
It's the best thing I ever did with my Nexus. It's especially superb now you don't have to unlock the bootloader...
OK, Now I'm bootloader unlocked, and SU superpermission. But can I PVT S-Off the nexus one?
No, no real need to anyway.
No. Unlocked bootloader is the same as S-OFF for any other phone, with the only caveat - you can't relock it.

Reason I ask is I am trying to install a radio .img, and need s-off. Am looking for the .zip version now.
Edit: Ok feeling quite lucky and very smug. I am now bootloader open, Superuser, running cyanogenmod (it's what I know well, will investigate others later), newest radio, and app2sd.
So nearly back to where I left my bricked desire, will start to restore my titanium/mybackup pro backup's.
Then later move on to intersectraven's havs kernel etc.
Still can't find out any more about s-off for the nexus one (As I mentioned flashing a corrupt patch for re-partitioning my desire to n1 style partitions, after already being S-Off'ed by Alpharev, is was what bricked my desire, so need help obviously ;-) ). If anyone can link me on to a page would be appreciated..
Again thanks to everyone who helps: Modaco (Again), RA-Nexus for my new grumpy care bear, Cyanogen team for an almost standardised stable exceptionable ROM, Darktremor, everyone who answers even the silliest question on XDA, and even google and HTC. Looking forward to thanking Intersectraven too.
You won't get S-OFF on a Nexus One unless it came from HTC like that. Also, you do not need S-OFF to fastboot flash your radio.
What about freehand editing apps, while using rootexplorer?

Hi!
I've got a Nexus One with HBOOT 0.33 and S-OFF. I guess it's a developer version. I'm wondering if anyone with S-OFF tried updating to HBOOT 0.35 and if their phones remained S-OFF or of they lost it. Not sure about updating just yet, but my boot partition has some bad blocks, so I guess I could benefit from it. Please let me know.
wrong section
Sorry, mods, please move this to the correct sub-forum.
I have S-ON since I updated to 0.35, but I still can flash ROMs etc.. whats the difference between S-ON and S-OFF if I still can flash ROMs and the AMON_RA Recovery still works?

You can relock the bootloader.
Not sure about "wrong section". My personal advise: If you haven't realized or felt the need for S-OFF its not really important, devices have a short life time, make sure you don't waste too much time on this subject as it is really for system developers.
Warranty theoretically expires by unlocking the boot loader, as for real life I haven't heard yet of a single "rejection" by HTC due an unlocked boot loader.. except if you brick your screen by dropping the device etc.
Hope this helps.
Well, I guess I'm just proud of having an S-OFF version of the phone, but no real use for it. I'll leave it for now, I guess and will let you know the result if I do update it.
completely pointless, however I think I'd feel the same ;-)
(Now sitting at a real keyboard, easier to type)
RunTimeWorld is correct, these devices do have a short life time, so it would be a shame to wast it on waiting for an answer/explanation of a small thing like S-OFF on a Nexus One. However, I figured it like this: Seeing as I can run Kang-o-Rama with IR's kernel properly on my current HBOOT/Radio config, I'm not changing it until I need to. I see that my phone frequently is checking (and finding) the HBOOT update, but we'll just see when CM7 is closer to release. All that 0.35 would profit me would be a smaller recovery partition but a larger boot partition. If I need to flash a larger kernel, I'll definitely switch.
Mine remained S-OFF after updating to .35

Sounds reassuring.
Exactly how did you update to 0.35? Using the official zip file downloaded from the Google servers or through the Korean OTA/RUU?
Via the recent 2 part OTA update (not Korean).
Aha, so I guess I'll just try it then.
Success
Here's the result, for you other Nexus One owners with S-OFF. Like i said, it's pretty much only for personal pride, but it's still nice to see my phone didn't loose it's "Developer phone" status when upgrading the HBOOT.
I believe the 'developer' ones say "ENG S-OFF", not "SHIP S-OFF"... ours are freaks and probably just a mistake by HTC.
Well, I guess you could be right. Mine was bought second hand in late May 2010 from a person who's mother (the actual previous owner) works for the Swedish telecommunication company Ericsson. One can only guess that she got it at some Google event or something similar. Anyway, I'm quite pleased to have something special.
So I just s-offed using Alpha rev last nigh and then rooted using gingerbreak. I've been able to flash both Android Rev. and Unity but in both cases I lose any incall earpiece or speaker sound when attempting a call. speaker works for music and slacker. Anyone else seeing this issue. I've not flashed a new radio in both cases

Can this be done without the ENG HBOOT?
Don't you need a S-Off Radio for that? Only way I know to do that is the XTC Clip
ohh geez, in order for getting ENG HBOOT we need radio S-OFF, and software solution isnt up yet... lucky my stock radio matches the android rev radio
my AlphaRev keeps hanging at Acquring Root (method 2)
I seriously hate this Incredible S, after Gingerbread i've not nothing but trouble.
all I want to do is flash it to the different Aus Carrier Rom cos that has no issues apparently.
other than smashing the phone with a hammer, which I've done numerous times before, why is AlphaRev being a c**t?
I have an Asia Rom, apparently that causes trouble.

Yes it is the asian rom because apparently gingerbreak is patched, you need to flash the optus or virgin or wwe rom using a goldcard, search in google how to create a goldcard.
first you flash virgin or wwe gb ruu
than you s-off
than birds make love, and we all happy..

I've tried that and no way has worked.
Plus I can't flash things with the S-On, hence me using this Alpha-Rev thing to get S-Off.
Ignoring that I still have S-on, since Alpha-Rev does nothing,
the RUU I downloaded, and I've down loaded 3 different AUS ones, gets to a certain point then says Error 131.
thats the official way.
or if I do it the "Volume Down/Power Button" with the renamed Zips on the SD Card
it loads and then says "Error, reboot" in a red font.
I seriously hate this phone.
It takes me 2 seconds to reflash a Nokia.
***Update***
Disregard, Alpha-Rev doesn't work on my Asia Rom, so i'm going to smash it with a small hammer and go back to my iphones and Nokias
You're going to go back to iphone which you can't flash? Relax a bit and actually search to solve your problem which you hijacked this thread for.

Dude stop having a hissy fit and do some research, i too was a newbie but spending some time has taught me alot of things.
You don't need to be s-off to flash an ruu, i did it and it worked you just have to spend some time and do it properly.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-make-gold-card-for-htc-desire-hd/
Make a goldcard first, then put it in your phone and flash the ruu.
Then you should be able to use alpharevx
Hello,
Please, I did root Incredible S, but I need to go back (unroot). I need back guarantee. Is this possible?
Thank you very much for your answers.
Just do an official update from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
i only suggest that you do not do not flash HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1
(that one can not yet and maybe never be rooted)
also next time just try using the search button and this question had been answered before, but enjoy
Ouuu, thank you very much I was looking for, but I was confused, so I was completely out.
Hello, How do I install the shipped rom, if I am from the Czech Republic?
or it does not matter what install the rom?
and how do I install it, just run only one. exe?
thank you so much
Well done, but I still have the S-OFF. Does it matter when the claim or not? to complain.
No way to unroot if permanent s-off?
May I ask you about some details? Which RUU did you applied and so on?
I unlocked bootloader with xtc clip, rooted device my and am running the latest ARHD now. Everything works fine except when I try to unroot (flash the stock gingerbread). It seems to be just impossible. It doesn't matter if I try to run ruu on my Vista och use goldcard method I always get either "error [130]: model ID error" or "model id error uppdate fail"
I've used two sd-cards: Kingston 2mb that worked perfect on my old Legend and original Sandisk 8mb that was shipped with my Incredible S. I followed all possible tutorials step by step but without effect. I always get the same error.
I live in Sweden and I bought my device from retailer. I'm not really sure what's the valid RUU version for our region so I've used:
RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.12.405.7_Radio_20.2804.30.085AU_3805.04.03.22_M_release_187295_signed
RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.30.405.1_Radio_20.2808.30.085AU_3805.06.03.03_M_release_199308_signed (especially this due to the same program and radio version)
but even optus and RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_KT_KR_2.32.1010.1_Radio_20. 2810.30.085AU_3805.06.03.16_M_release_199684_signe d.
Unfortunately it's always the same error after reboot into bootloader. Has anybody of you (that used xtc clip but not only) faced the same problem? Is there any way to bypass it? I will be very very grateful for any answer.

Thanks a lot for reply but well...It's not what I asked I was asking about unrooting (just pure taking away this little f... pirate and possibility to come back to stock rom) I'm totally aware of permanent character of my unlocked bootloader.
Anyway I solved problem with help of two threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070348&page=7 and this about canadian dudes' problem with their PG32120 devices and bell stock. As it turned out I accidently change my Modelid during s-offing and wrote it as PG321200, which i didn't know until i succesfully installed ENG s-off and rebooted bootloader todays afternoon. I used xtc clip again (I had to re-create goldcard - hboot 0.99x200 (bell) though) and reverted quite easily back to my original PG3213000. After that I installed RUU without any single issue. Just ENG s-off disappeared, but I can live without that
Can you not downgrade the HBOOT then run said RUU with a gold card. Or you could extract the ROM.zip and use that in HBOOT mode.
Believe me I tried several times and it didn't work as long as I had modelid PG321200. Once I changed model id with xtc clip problem disappeared

Is your phone branded or unbranded??
Do you know which Rom came with it??
I can send you detailed instructions to unroot and S-On your device but first you need to tell which region your phone belongs and if its branded with some carrier or unbranded???

It worked fine for me and so did for a few others but I heard recently that there are some changes in AlphaRevX and the bootloader needs to be downgraded now.
I S-off my phone long ago when AlphaRevX method was just introduced so may be that's why my bootloader was overwritten by the Rom easily.
Try following this guide:

Hi !
incsfree a tool to gain radio S-OFF, SuperCID and (hopefully) SIM-unlock is available for beta testing.
The documentation of incsfree can be found at incsfree wiki
The tool itself can be found in the attachments of that page or using the direct link incsfree_02.zip
There is currently no HOW-TO guide for the Incredible S but the procedure is very similar to the procedure for the HTC G2/DZ/DHD that can be found at the wiki page of the vision Rooting the Vision (G2/DZ) and DHD. The differences are that you will use incsfree instead of gfree and that you have to use the engineering hboot image and recovery image for the Incredible S. (Please make sure that you use the right versions for the Incredible S)
If you intend to use incsfree i would like to invite you to join the irc channel #G2ROOT on freenode. I will not be available for the next 2 weeks but there are other capable people who will assist you using incsfree (especially pierre_ja and Nipqer are very helpful and capable guys).
You can use incsfree also in case that you already used alpharev or revolutionary to gain "fake" S-OFF by the patched hboot.
Warning The SIM-unlock feature has not been tested at all on an Incredible S. I am rather confident that it will work but if you want to use it, please do that only being assisted by people from #G2ROOT.
incsfree has only been tested on Software number: 1.36.405.1
It might be that it works on higher versions too or that the phone can be downgraded so that you can use it.
incsfree is released under the GPL v2. The source is linked on the incsfree wiki. Please respect the license !
Have fun - Guhl

I tried this on My GB updated Inc S. but it fails to reboot emmc, tried downgrading to froyo and got stuck in bootloop, is there anyway to downgrade to 1.36.405.1?
Can someone tell me if this should work in theory? (or if someone has done this) since apparently this S-Off tool only works on the old froyo 1.36.405.1 rom which means most people would have to somehow downgrade from Gingerbread to use it...
My idea-
1. Use Revolutionary to gain soft S-Off
2. Take the 1.36.405.1 PG32IMG, edit the android-text file in it to raise the main version to what my phone is currently running which is: 2.28.666.3. (So when the PG32IMG is flashed through Hboot, it thinks the 1.36.405.1 rom is actually 2.28.666.3) Hboot will allow the modified android-text file since the phone is now S-Off from Revolutionary.
3. Flash modified PG32IMG 1.36.405.1 rom through Hboot
4. Run Incsfree to get radio S-Off.
Anyone think this will work? I want to try it but I am afraid of getting stuck in a bootloop or a brick...

Hi!
Sorry I am on holidays so i can not go into details.
The way it would work is similar to the downgrade of the G2/DZ/DHD/MT4G as described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
As you see instead of changing the stock rom zip (which will not work because it would break the signature) we change the main version in the misc partion 17.
I do not know if fre3vo will work to give you temp root on your firmware version but the first thing you will need is a way to temp-root.
If you do use revolutionary before downgrading it does not hurt.
I will be back in about a week and would be happy to assisst you.

Especially if you use it to remove the sim-lock please try to find me on #g2root as this feature is totaly untested and i would like to accompany you during that.

Not real familiar with that chat, I will see what I can do, just heading out to see a live comedy show but depending on how much I drink, maybe I'll give this a crack tonight.

I just checked the chat but didn't see you there. I am eastern time zone, I probably won't be on until after 8pm my time for the next couple days because of commitments. I appreciate the help.

If you are around tonight I would like to give this SIM unlocking a go. If not it's okay, try another day/night.
