I'm trying to get a SIP account working over a VPN connection on my GS, however it fails to register whenever I'm connected by the VPN. My company has an external PBX that's only accessible over VPN, and when I'm in the office on wireless (which is already connected to the VPN) the SIP account works fine. Does anyone know a fix for this? I searched the forums but didn't turn anything up.
I did find this though... http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=14043 which seems to be the exact issue I'm having, but the link with the alleged fix is broken.
Anyone got any ideas? Cheers!
The SIP service that comes with Gingerbread does not work over a VPN. Try using Csipsimple or Sip Droid, i can connect using Csipsimple over a VPN.
Thanks for the tip, I've tried CSipSimple, looks really good but still won't let me connect over the VPN. Tried on 3g and wireless, same deal, connection refused. Works fine when I'm not on the VPN. Is there some setting in CSipSimple that lets you specify a VPN?
firewall VPN
Hi! This is my first post here in xda-developers. I just wanted to pitch in and maybe get an answer to my problem as well.
I've been trying to use CSipSimple thru a Fortigate VPN with a 3CX PBX System. I managed to register it using a L2TP VPN configured both in the Firewall and my Android phone (btw, it's a Samsung Galaxy Y Duos, Gingerbread 2.3.6 Rooted). I can make and receive calls on my phone, but I have one very annoying problem: I can't hear the person on the other end from my phone. They hear me just well (with awesome sound quality), but I can't hear them.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
BTW, regarding the topic above: have you configured your Firewall to accept the VPN users? And maybe check ports 5060, 8000-8020, 9000-9020 to be open?

Hello,
does someone use a VPN software on the Kaiser ?
Wich one ?
I tried several but none worked.
My Kaiser is using the built in VPN client, to VPN into two different Microsoft RRAS networks using PPTP and IPSec/L2TP.
What problems are you experiencing? What type of networks are you trying to VPN into?
Thanks a lot for your answer !
I didn't know the Kaiser had a VPN client included ...
Where is the application ? What's its name ?
Is there a documentation I can find somewhere to help me to configure it ?
The other thing is that I use a SecurID password to connect to my corporate network, I don't know if this can work also with the Kaiser VPN.
In fact I would like to connect to my corporate network wich accepts both IPSec/UDP and IPSec/TCP. All I know is that I need a Cisco compatible VPN application.
I tried "AnthaVPN", it connects to our Cisco server, but then it disconnects after a few "Time Out" errors.
Thanks again for your help !
I would be interested in this too... we use Cisco at work using Cisco ipsec/udp but no idea how to set this up on the phone
Finally I've found how to use the buit in VPN, but it still does not work for me, because of the SecurID password I think (it says my login/password may be incorrect).
Here is how to access to the built in VPN (my device is french, I translate it to english but I'm not sure the names will be the same on english devices):
parameters/connections -> choose the "Connections" icon.
Then choose "Modify/Configure my VPN servers"
After you filled everything there, choose "Manage existing connections".
At the bottom of the screen, choose "VPN". The VPN connection you made should appear here.
Put your stylus on it until the options "delete" and "connect to" appears.
Select "connect to" and then you should be connected to your network.
I hope this helped.
So finally, I am still searching for a VPN application wich would work with SECURID passwords.
Does someone know one ?
Cisco VPN Help Required
Even my office uses a Cisco PIX Firewall with VPN. Even i have tried many softwares, but nothing seems to work. I thik it is because of the 2 phase authentication of the Cisco VPN.
Also just for info, we use IPSec over UDP (NAT/PAT)
How to set this up in my KAISER?
Hello to all
Im using AnthaVPN and it's work great with Cisco VPN Concentrator System in my KAISER. There must be also a way to connect to a pix.

Like I said, I tried this one, but it did not work with SecurID keys.
I also had a problem with it related to the WIFI :
when I tried to use it with WIFI enabled, if I wanted then to disable the WIFI, it was impossible, even after a soft reset. I had to deinstall AnthaVPN to be able to disable the WIFI.
So finally I think the built-in VPN is better than AnthaVPN because I had no WIFI issue with it.
I have read the manual from the Homepage AnthaVPN and for me its OK. But i haven't testet over wifi. Over GPRS works great.
i'm using the Bluefire VPN CLient (www.bluefiresecurity.com) to connect to my university's vpn (cisco) and it's working great.
with AnthaVPN i was not able to disconnect wifi anymore (phone would hang up -> soft reset -> wifi on again), don't know if they fixed this till now
So I was not alone to have wifi problems with AnthaVPN !
Finally I tried Bluefire VPN, it works a lot better than AnthaVPN (no more wifi problems !), I can go upto the SecurID login, but after that, at "Phase 2", I have an error code talking about IPSec parameters...
So I still have problems but now I know that Bluefire is working with securid keys.
Hi there. Please anyone if has info on this:
Have you ever managed to connect through VPN and PPTP on a windows VPN server? And if yes HOW?
I have tried thousand of times to set My work network settings and nothing...
Thanks in advance
P.S. It seems it tries the connection, on the server side i CAN see the connection established but from the mobile side it seems to drop..
have also had problems gave up in the end but would love to get this working, anyone got a top three list of best VPN clients
SO... its a telephone company GAME.. another one!!!
They DONT let VPN passthough..!!!!!!! If someone wants to connect with VPN to his office/home needs another packet to activate (Cosmote Greece) which costs the same as the internet connection!!! They just want our money!!!
If i try this connection (VPN) through wireless internet works just fine!!!
Hi all,
I've been trying to get PPTP VPN to work for my nexus one a while now. However, I always receive the "server hang up" error. I tried my university VPN last few months, and ProXPN service just recently. Both are set up and run just fine on my laptop. I'm on CM 5.0.8 and connecting using wifi. I've read somewhere that the pptp client in 2.1 is buggy. Is it still the case with CM5.0.8?
Thanks!
Any help at all?
I wish I could offer help but I can't. I am in the same situation with my work VPN. At first I thought it may have been that NAT-T wasn't enabled on the VPN server (since Tmobile connections to VPN seem to need that) but it wasn't the case. A co-worker of mine has a MT3GS unrooted and his VPN connects flawlessly. I am wondering if there is something in the HTC Kernel that makes it work better. Maybe you should check to see if NAT-T is enabled on your VPN servers? Good Luck!
**Update**
When you put in your username try adding a space to the end then immediately delete it. then enter your password as usual.
Hello all. I have a samsung galaxy s gt-I900M phone and I am trying to make my paid VPN work on it. It's called VyprVPN and does work well on my pc and laptop but not on this phone. IT is a PPTP connection , and it will connect on the phone but as soon as I try to use the internet it just does nothing , I have been searching and reading all I can on this issue.
Does anyone know what I can do to make this vpn connection work ? If it matters i am on the bell network and have tried with 3G and with wifi and get the same thing. Thanks for any replies !!
Really ? Noone knows how to make a pptp vpn connection work on a galaxy s ?
That's not what u were asking. U were asking about making some obscure vpn work that no one has heard about. What do u expect. My pptp vpns with dd-wrt work fine.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using Tapatalk
obscure vpn ? Its just a regiular pptp vpn that works great on my laptop and desktop pc but refuses to work on the galaxy s. Like i said it connects but won't let me surf anything , for the first 2 seconds it starts to work and stops and won;t do anything again but stays connected. Its an issue with the android system not the vpn subscription , which is a popular one .
Did you do anything fancy to make yours work ?
FROM MY VPN PROVIDER ::
Thank you for contacting Technical Support!
We use public dns 4.2.2.2. So there should not be any issues with DNS. PPTP
is the only VPN connection we offer. Have you attempted contacting
Galaxys support to assure their phone does not have an over ride built in
or if one of your apps is causing interference? We have other users that
have gotten this to work as well as developers.
nope nothing special.. try turning off encryption..
from fbvpn.com :
android needs special settings, and its encryption has some bug.
we are going to setup a new server only for android phone
but it won't be very fast, not proper for watching video
and another thing, if you need to use PPTPVPN on android, your message is not encrypted.
The vpn's i have subscribed to all require encryption so when i turn it off , they wont even connect. Any suggestions for a vpn that will work without it?
all over wherever I search about vpn and galaxy s noone has any answers. its a dead end street , why cant we get someone working on this ? i would pay out of pocket to have the vpn working on my galaxy s
and i dont mean someone set one up in thier house with no encryption
Hi All,
I am having issues when trying to connect to my work VPN. I need VPN access in order to check my work email and browse an internal website.
Now, the VPN always connects, either on 3G (in UK) and wifi.
However, even if it says "connected", I am not able to download emails orbrowse the intranet unless when connected to my home wifi and sometimes on mobile internet.
If connected through other wifi networks (recently tried on a hotel free wifi, in the states and on a private home network, in Croatia), the connection itself seems to go through some sort of bottleneck, and no emails or browsing is then available.
I am blaming the phone itself, since my colleague had no problems whatsoever on his iPhone.
I am on Galaxy Note, non rooted, Vodafone UK.
Please help, this issue is making my Galaxy Note almost useless.

just FYI I'm also on UK Vodafone and I can connect fine with openVPN to my home network ... tested on 2G,3G/H+ and also on various public & private WiFi networks - always connects fine, only issue I have is that my server .ovpn tells the phone to use my home router as it's default gateway (so that I can browse securely on public wifi). This doesn't work out of the box - I need to use the openVPN app's "fix DNS" option.

errr ... I'm an android noob, but AFAIK you need root for openVPN to work? I never tried running openVPN on my note BEFORE I rooted it, but anything I've ever read says root is required?

What APN do you use?
I have to switch everytime to something called MyLan to connect over 3G.
I am using the stock VPN client, did not adventure myself into OpenVPN. Would that work with an encrypted VPN?
Ah, sorry - I somehow managed to read the thread title "[Q] VPN issues" as "OpenVPN issues" .. case of my eyes seeing what they wanted to rather than than what was actually there. You are of course right, the stock VPN options don't need root (and of course openVPN client will only work to talk to an openVPN server).
I did set up a PPTP server on my WinXP home machine and tested that with the note's inbuilt PPTP VPN client - it worked OK although I needed to turn off encryption, and I didn't do anything with it beyond just connecting as I was only dong it out of interest.
re. the APN - I don't actually know where to see that on the note (noob, as I said!) - when I do settings->wireless & network-> mobile networks, which claims to allow setting APN's, there is no info or settings re. the APN other than the "network mode" and "network operators" items, neither of which seem to show the APN used for vodafone data access.
Anyway, sorry for the bum steer, hope you get it sorted

Oh, never mind
Under mobile networks you have to go under Access Point Names, but most likely you will only have one APN, which is the regular from Vodafone.
So most likely is the encryption causing problems?
D'oh ... I thought that was a heading, didn't realise it was a clickable item! my APN is wap.vodafone.co.uk (APN type is "internet+mms").
IDK if encryption is anything to do with your issues ... I doubt it if you can consistantly connect from home wifi and sometimes from 3G - if encryption were the problem I'd imagine it would consistantly connect (or not) rather than be variable.
Maybe worth trying to ping your internal mail/intranet servers when connected and then talking to your work IT guys in case there are firewall/routing settings that you are somehow falling foul of?
Yes we are doing that, however that fact that iPhones can connect really makes me wonder!
Thread Moved To Q&A
This is a question, and as such belongs in the Q&A Section
there are lots of third party vpn tools and free available you can use those
Wilsonj,
Can you please suggest one third party vpn tools that works well on PPTP, with encryption?
I am not looking at OpenVPN, since it doesn't suit my needs.
Thanks!
