hello everyone
can someone please help me out here with this problem im facing, i have searched everywhere i cant find anything on it :/
i have gt i9000 and its running froyo
i need to update it to GB without rooting it. when i connect to KIES it dznt shows the update.
can someone PLEASE help me out here?
thanks a lot
hi.
you don't need to root in order to upgrade, there is a way to upgrade through kies that involve registry editing, but is too messy and personally I haven't been able to make it work not even once! if you want you could try to do that, search in the forum kies registry editing or something like that..
the other way, and plain simple, is flash whatever gb rom you like through odin, go to samfirmware, sammobile (is the same, and you have to create an account) and download the one you like. there is a thread in the forum that also post the download links of the stock roms ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913&highlight=stock+rom) then flash it and that's it... after you finish flashing, the phone wont be rooted or anything..
there are plenty of tutorials on how to flash a rom through odin, and it really isn't complicated at all...
remember to backup all your info, even tough the info on the internal sdcard wont be erased.
and as always and as everybody in this forum, i'm not responsible for anything!
(if i'm wrong in anything feel free to correct me)
Thanks a lot m8!

hi there, so ive got a samsung galaxy s i9000 in the uk with orange, finnaly got fed up of waiting for this damm froyo update, even though its been released now im aware seeing as my phone is a branded orange handset it could be even months before orange decide to make it avalible to download, so ive decided to go the unofficial route, ive also heard good things about rooting with regards to fixing the lag that these phones are prone to etc.
the thing is im a total newbie to all of this and ive found the xda forums very confusing....so many different versions of froyo and rooting programs etc which to use?
basically I want to debrand my phone get rid of all the orange bloatware, and flash it with froyo, my questions are just exactly how do i go about this and which version of froyo should I be using? which rom is generally accepted as the standard uncrashing version etc?
I also want to know is `lagfix` as ive heard about a good idea, and how do i go about rooting my phone in order to install this? the samsung does suffer from horrible lag so this would be a godsend if it worked.
thanks in advance
if it helps anyone give me advice the version of software now on my phone is the following(as seen when i go to download new firmware in kies...only to find there is none avalible lol)
pda:jm5/phone:jm1/csc:jm3
No offence, but I'd suggest waiting if I were you - as if you're not sure how to go about doing it, you're very likely to brick your handset and then have warranty issues.
If you decide to do it, then there's good info reading this thread.
Lagfix(es) reformat an internal partition with a different (faster) file system - deffo warranty void IMHO.
I would suggest firstly read as much as possible, secondly make sure you have 3 button recovery (this is a must).
Then id sugest the easist way would be to go to samfirmware to download appropriate firmware for your region follow the tutorials of how to flash from there site (its relatively easy) using odin.
Thirdly dont get over awed just read carefully it takes maybe 5 mins tops. You can either flash a different kernel which has root or try ryanza's new one click root tool and then use his oclf (one click lag fix) app to apply lag fix it really is not hard just common sense.
all done now froyo up and running, i used the files from the help page posted on xda, cant remember whos it was but it was for flashing froyo jpm version using odin. is that the latest version? my firmware is now showing i9000xxjpm seems to run fine havnt found any bugs so far. so glad i came across it anyway as i found that samfirmware site a waste of time.....i downloaded a few different versions ready to put on the phone only to find either no pit file, no tar file, no modem or phone file etc seems like there all incomplete rars im sure there meant to be that way and theres something you have to do to get them to work but i was looking for a complete package with all the files i needed like i found with the `how to flash froyo jpm version` post i came across.
also on the plus side it also removed all orange branding from my phone, noticing a difference between the os versions already, froyo seems to be a lot quicker and less laggy.
anyway cant remember who pasted the help thread with the links to the downloaded files you needed etc but cheers!
s
For your future reference most roms are just 1 file that being the .tar whether that be from samfirware or a custom rom from this site and the pit files are at the bottom of the samfirmware page. Just use pit plus .tar as pda then flash with odin.

first, this needs to be in Q&A - development section is for development.
the easiest way to root the tab is to use super one click root. there is a howto in this forum (use search).
as far as roms, there are a couple - rotohammer's seems to be the most used.
but search and test. just read everything before attempting to do anything. also read the giant sticky at the top of this thread.
Oh ... im sorry, i thought i would be in the QA Section ... toooo much tabs open ...
And i did read them and i understand most of it but some parts are a bit unclear to me ...
I got Root now and want to flash a Rom but at the same Time my Kies want to upgrade my Firmware. Is there anything i need to beware to update or can i just update and still get root?
Thanks for your help and i hope any mod can switch this T_T ... im so sorry!
i would hold off on using kies. there are some updates that contain signed bootloaders and then you get stuck and cant flash anything. so i suggest using roms found here that do not include signed bootloaders.
Never mind
figured it out
thanks

ive never had any problem rooting and flashing roms on htc devices
but i am seeing its a bit different over here ,on htcs we root using adb and
command line and then doing a s off installing rom manager and flashing cwm
recovery from there and then flash any rom we want and everything you
need to know is on the wiki page but i cant find anything on the wiki here.
i really dont know where to start i was reading about cf-root but i cant find
a zip that is for android 2.3.3 NEJVD could anyone please put me on a right direction ?
thanks.

Essentially you need to find a CF ROOT that is JVD, as this will cause no problems. But i don't think there is one... you can use other JV versions ie JVB or JVO or such like but likelyhood is you'll have a few bugs like no BT or camera.

Could always try Superoneclick but i doubt it will work.

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI/3G (Model GT-P7300 I think).
I somehow managed to install Overcome ROM on it when I first got it. Now I want to give it to my Dad and I would like to revert everything back to factory default stock and all. I'm not sure what a Kernal is and not sure if I need to revert that too but probably.
How do I best go about this? I am having much difficulty understanding from googling and reading forum posts and I am not familiar with the acronyms and lingo the community uses. Would you be so kind to please explain to me step-by-step detailed as if I was a child lol
Please link me to everything I need to download!
Oh and another thing: I bought this tab in Asia so it has English and other Asian languages installed. Can I install a different language ROM for my Dad? (I think he prefers Swedish). Will it be locked to any providers or anything?
Thank you very much in advance. I really need help with this
Here's the stock unbranded firmware for Nordic countries
Here's the branded firmware for Telia (couldn't find any other carrier branded for Sweden
Then just flash using Odin, that will wipe everything though, but you'll be back to stock
I don't understand how to flash with Odin .. I don't even know what Odin is! Please give me super simple instructions
I downloaded the firmware file and I put it on my tablet's SD card. I rebooted into Recovery mode and I try to apply the update from the ZIP file. But it says it cannot Open it?! What am I doing wrong?
All is explained in this post here, that is stickied at the top of this section
overome is quite a standard rom with features that are not really seen... the look is stock... I don't see a reason to revert back...
Thanks guys, I successfully flashed with Odin and I think it was a success. You have been very helpful.
But I am still not sure if 100% everything is set to default stock in case of a future warranty claim. Is there anything else I should do? Do I need to install stock Recovery as well?
Thanks again.

If you used Odin and one of the stock firmwares then it should have flashed a stock recovery as well IIRC, I'm pretty sure Odin on these tabs does the whole kit and kaboodle when it flashed
Hi guys,
I have a rooted galaxy s advance, and everything just worked fine for half a year or so but suddenly it wouldn't start on anymore..
I was trying to reboot it but it stops when showing the samsung galaxy s advance logo..
I've tried everything for as far as i know, reboot, wipe cache, factory reset..
I have the stock rom jb 4.1.2 xxlqe (dutch) installed, no mods..
I don't know if and how it's possible to put a custom rom(or stock rom again) on it because i can only access it via download mode..
I've exhaustively searched for a clear how-to but it's really unclear to me how to do it..
I've searched for people with similar problems but never found a solution..
The how-to's i find are so elaborate, and in great numbers so a good one is hard to find, i don't know what to do..
Does it matter which country you are from, what version of stock rom you have, does a custom rom include side effects?
I really need a simple step-by-step guide, if anyone could refer me to one i would die for it..
I am desperate! :crying: Really really thanks in advance!
Sorry for using bad english, it isn't my native language..
You should flash a firmware compatible with your device using Odin, just search it here. You'll find.
I won't give you a step by step because it already exists.
Follow this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
And search your firmware on samsung-updayes.com
