Is anyone else still experiencing problems with the texting? Sometimes messages still aren't sending like with v4.
I've noticed a big improvement.. running stock rooted gb
What ROM are you on?
Try downloading the app "DNS Changer" and set OpenDNS 1 and OpenDNS 2 as the primary and secondary nameservers, respectively. Be sure to press the SET button to commit the changes.
The changes should stick through a reboot, as long as you told Superuser to remember the permissions for the app when you allowed it.
Changing my DNS seems to be the change that coincided with my text sending issues subsiding, but I haven't actually done a scientific test to prove that.
Obviously, you need root to do this. =]
Good luck.

Im on GingerVolt...it has gotten better but still noticing it happen a couple times
EDIT: what exactly does that do to the DNS? kind of a newbie
Just FYI.. On the issue of receiving double texts from Verizon customers I renamed Vzwsms.apk to vzwsms.apk.bak in /system/app which deactivates the app and now I only receive one msg and you can still send/receive pic msgs as well as txt msgs.

Anyone shed some light on why mms comes through as a link to viewmymessage.com. They always seemed to download fine on my tilt.

I know this is a pointless reply but since I have had my captivate that had not happened to me a single time. Did you check your settings in your messaging app and make sure auto retrieve is checked. Thats the only thing I can think of.
Everything seems in order there. IDK... <sigh>

Yeah sounds like something is wrong in your settings. Check your messaging app settings, (what messaging app are you using) and your apn settings to make sure they are right.
I don't know if this is a problem related to the recent patch for ROM Manager, but I upgraded that app and it didn't fix it, so...
Anyway, I have two apps giving me fits right now:
Amazon's new MP3 Cloud player for Android, and "Good (for Enterprise)", which is a corporate email reader.
Both apps complain that my cell network isn't enabled. Both apps should work find over WiFi, and they are communicating with their servers in some capacity, because they are able to tell the difference between a valid login and an invalid one. But once I enter a valid login, they both complain that I need to enable my cell network.
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm on WiFi, and I can connect to Amazon's web page fine. But when I login to the app using my amazon account, it complains about not being connected to a cell network. Why would it care if I'm on wifi?
Do you have the phone.apk telephony.apk and mms.apk renamed or removed by chance? The app could just be looking for those.
Ahhhhh, I see...

I haven't done anything like this on purpose. I'm running the stock ROM with eclair and rooted via autonooter. Can I check for them using a file manager or ADB?
Ran into the same problem when I tried running the Yelp app on my Nook Color. Kept crashing on the install. After passing emails and logs back and forth with Yelp it turns out it crashing when it's looking for a phone, even though I'm on wifi.
He said they'd fix it in the next major release.

Hey people! I've been getting billed am extra few dollars a month for text messages being sent to kansas.
I am thinking it is an app that I've downloaded but don't know which..is there an app that can show which apps have access to sending messages?
I am running cyanogen mod and just activated phone goggles so hopefully that helps as well.

Could be a quicker but I would check through installed apps permissions. It'll tell you there if they have access to send/receive SMS
well if you do find out what app it was please post here so we can avoid using it, Dont like the idea of SMS being sent without me knowing.
If its a reputable app, and is caused by a bug, i would tell the developer and hope for some compensation,
Lucky you found out when you did
Could try using LBE Privacy Guard too - it sorts the installed apps' permissions quite nicely. Free in the market. When you find out which app is doing it, let us know!
I have narrowed it down to live texas hold em or live profile.. Both require access to sending sms messages

I used to have an OG Droid and got the Bionic on release date. I have searched, and searched and found nothing on this topic anywhere on the internet (which I find odd). Is there a reason the "auto refresh" feature for twitter does not show up on the bionic?
Also is there another app, or does the built-in blur twitter use push notifications?
TIA
I believe it is the last reason you stated. Go to settings>accounts>twitter. Check the menus in there. There is also a place in settings that lists social status update settings. Let me look quick and I'll update.
Go into settings>battery and data manager>data services?(bottom one)>social applications. Check to see if push is enabled.

Is that only for the built-in BLUR social messaging (I knew the setting was there, but wasn't sure if it only applied to BLUR apps)? If so I cannot see any setting in the BLUR twitter account to receive notifications for tweets, is there one?
Since this phone has a native twitter client built in, I don't think you can get push from the market app - similar to FB.
My advice? Download tweetcaster. Problem solved and better app.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me because the "social networking" application is pretty terrible/featureless. Tweetcaster has push notifications?
edit: Also I was on Liberty, not stock and the option still wasn't there so maybe it is something Motorola did inside of their source. I might look around at it today and see if I can find the culprit for this.
edit2:
reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j6z4p/anyone_else_notice_automatic_refresh_missing_in/
It seems this issue may not be tied to Motorola, but instead the official twitter app. However I have looked at the other twitter apps and do not see push notifications (or c2dm) mentioned anywhere.
Tweetcaster has push.

Interesting as it would not appear so by looking at the settings since the settings show different refresh times, and no option for push/c2dm. Is tweetdeck also this way?
edit: Tweetcaster definitely does not have push/c2dm messaging.
Bump. Does anyone have any idea? And if tweetcaster has push notifications how do you enable them?
TIA
Has anyone had any luck getting Verizon Visual Voicemail working on a custom ROM? I just rooted my D4 and love the latest stable version of Avatar ROM. The battery life improvements alone were more then enough reason to root and ROM. I tried downloading the Verizon Visual Voicemail app from the Play Store. The app installs but fails to connect to the VVM service to verify connectivity. I've searched other xda forums and found multiple answers from updating the build.prop file as shown below to sideloading VVM applications from other hardware. I couldn't find any instructions specific to the D4. Are these apks and build.prop instructions unique to each phone or should they work on the D4 as well? Thanks for the time.
From:
# Set Horizontal VVM = true and ro.HorizontalBUA = true for Incredible#C Verizon build
# Then Verizon VVM/BuA program can check this property to known if there is a Native VVM/BuA in ROM
ro.HorizontalVVM = true
ro.HorizontalBUA = true
To:
# Set Horizontal VVM = true and ro.HorizontalBUA = true for Incredible#C Verizon build
# Then Verizon VVM/BuA program can check this property to known if there is a Native VVM/BuA in ROM
#ro.HorizontalVVM = false
#ro.HorizontalBUA = false
after making these changes reboot your phone and download "visual voice mail" from the market

Go into Titanium Backup and see if Verizon Login is installed... if not you should be able to install it from the market.
Reboot and then you should be able to connect (It does the exact same thing to me with cm10.2 with VZW Messages)
I use YouMail services and -always- delete the voicemail app from big red... useless and problematic.

Thanks for the response. Verizon Login is installed. I uninstalled both and reinstalled as well. Still get a messsage that VVM is "unable to establish connection to the mailbox." and to try again later.
Tried the build.prop changes listed above as well to no effect.
Tried to backup the stock D4 Motorola Voicemail app from the stock ROM but was unable to install that either.
Looks like its back to the drawing board for some new methods to try. I'll update if I find anything that works. Thanks for the recommendations on Youmail. May try that after I export my current VVMs using the stock ROM.
Still no dice, AGAIN.
I agree with everything above. Still no fix.
I'm running JB build 6.
