I was wondering if such a thing as described in subject exists.
I am looking for something which wipes everything but the CWM bootloader and the sd card directory.
The option is already there in cwr

if you format the recovery you would lose CWM. A data wipe should be suffient, if not plug it into a computer and delete everything on the "sdcard"

thanks, I now have 13 Gb available, is the rest taken by the recovery partition? is resizing an option?

I think the devs would have to put a wipe script in their ROMs so the user doesn't have to do it manually. At least that's what the devs at my smartphone's forum (Vibrant) do. Albeit, sometimes it is best to do some manual cleaning, and TWICE at it (the system isn't infallible).

I think its the easiest way to create partition.
Or else you can do it in pc via partition managers(i use minitool partition wizard)

one question is left:
what happen if i format the partioned sd-card under windows and do a full wipe in preparation for installing a new rom. i've read sd-ext even survive a full wipe? what does that mean? stays the partition untouched when i format the sd-card with windows? and what about the apps in the partition? are they still there even after a full wipe and can i use them after flashing a new rom out of the box?

Now if you format the fat32 partition in windows using those partition tools doesnt affect ur ext. Ext stays untouched but all the data on fat32 will be wiped(so backup first to pc)
If u want to merge there is an option called merge for that.
There is an free windows software called sdformatter, that formats the entire sdcard(fat32+ext)

Full wipe in recovery wipes SD-EXT too.

i do beleive that it should be untouched, cos normally windows cannot see the ext partition and hence only fat32 will be formatted

when i flash a new rom i use the format.zip form the xda user temasek which wipes system, boot, data and cache. so is sd-ext untouched when i use this file?
You insist on not listening and/or not understanding.
When you select "wipe data/factory reset" in custom recovery, EXT partition IS WIPED COMPLETELY. It doesn't stay.
I believe the same happens when using temasek's script, never bothered using it, so I can't say with 100% certainty.
If you don't wipe your phone and install a new ROM - be prepared for crashes of anything to everything, unless you install a ROM which is 100% compatible with what you have already - the next generation of the same ROM, usually.
If you're using A2SD and don't wipe EXT partition - you'll have crashes as soon as you boot, since system apps' data will be there (and wrong).
To keep your apps and their data, use one of the backup apps available in the Market, like Titanium Backup.
as Jack_R1 explained its always better to wipe everything(system,cache,dalvik n sdext) to be on safer side to avoid crashes n FCs.

Temasek's Extreme Wipe does Data/System/Boot partitions but don't remember seeing ext in the list
However, as alluded too, I would format all outside phone with sdformatter or I think gparted, although never used that one
I thought I read a long time ago Windows formatter not recommended and do a full wipe not partial with whatever you use
Back up sdcard first
also, I believe you can use the Alignment Cool zip to get ext 4 from 3 on Amon and not lose anything--still backup
you do know MeDroid uses Ia2sd and different from a2sd on implementation
You don't need to wipe the regular FAT partition on SD card between flashes, because there's nothing there that loads automatically. And "wipe data/factory reset" option in recovery also wipes /sdcard/.android_secure.

No, the apps aren't there anymore - or to be correct, the apps are there, their data is gone (because the app data doesn't reside on EXT partition, unless you use specific mounting methods).
When you flash an updated version of your ROM, just don't wipe anything at all unless the instructions specifically mention having to wipe before installing that version. That means - don't execute temasek's script at all.
After I installed the Safe Kernel Hydracore and Reboot to recovery (vol.up+home+power button) I select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition and even go into Advanced and did the wipe Dalvik cache and after I installed the latest Cyanomod 10 and Gapps and reboot the phone, I still have my old folders like before with maps, games, etc...
When I looked in my Main Storage of my Note (/storage/sdcard0), I only have 3.5 GB free. And like I said, I can still see my old games, apps and maps folders in my main storage which took up a lot of space and I only have 3.5 GB free. Do I have to manually delete every folder in the main storage and go back to recovery and do everything over? Could this brick my phone?

Wipe in cwmr does not clear internal storage, for that you need to format internal SD. Once on safe kernel you can easily format sd and there is no risk in it. Just format it in settings/storage but make sure to move required files to external sd (like pics or music)

Does it suppose to format your internal sdcard? The answer is NO. Format it by going to settings/storage/format internal memory.

Alternatively, as I find even a format of sd sometimes does not do a proper wipe, connect phone to pc as usb, then manually delete all files on SD.

Think you are all wrong guys.
He wants a factory reset, not manualy delete folders and files.
There are a lot other stuff that remains on the Note, registry, hidden files...etc.
There is only one simple way to do that.
Because all "new" kernel have the option to format emmc disabled, remember the Note brick times.
Flash the Abyss 4.2 kernel, restart in recovery, do factory reset ( it works ) and full wipe, flash an safe ICS kernel or flash the whole new ROM of your choice.
You are done.
Remeber to restart in RECOVERY afte flashing the Abyss 4.2 kernel for factory reset.
The other, difficult, way is to flash a rootable GB ROM with PC Odin, root your Note an after that, you have a clean, almost virgin, Note for flashing the newest ROM of your choice.

You're talking bonkers mate. A factory reset only resets the system partition. It does not include internal sd card Nov matter what kernel you're on. You have to specify a separate operation of wipe internal sd card for that. Kernel type doesn't make a difference.

Original samsung firmware ? ex i install ICS using PC odin... damm these are non wipe. doesnt even remove old apps...

Second, i want to apologize for my novice touch in this topic!
The story:
I've been using SweetRom for a while, but tonight i wanted to try another rom.
I loaded up SuperBean(not really relevant to this story) on a microSD.
Rebooted my phone into recovery
Philz Touch 5
I choose "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and then "Clean to install a new rom"
Then i tried to "install zip"
"Choose zip from sdcard"
But then i get: E:Can't Mount /sdcard/
I've tried to format the sdcard, exfat, fat, fat32, ntsf but nothing worked, still the same error.
I can access the internal storage and i can boot into download.
I thought that maybe i'll try to install the newest Philz but when in download mode
my computer wont recognize my phone (i'm using Windows 8)
i'm stuck! please help me out!
I've searched everywhere for answers but i can't find any!
What are my options?
Boot into Philz recovery again and go to mounts and storage and mount USB. Then connect it to pc. Check if the any drive shows up. Then move the new rom to the internal storage.

It does a full wipe. Basically it formats: cache, /system, /preload, /data

No. It's different. Preload is a separate partition and dalvik-cache is in data partition.
The option you mentioned only exists in Philz recovery not in standard cwms

So, to be clear, is it necessary or advisable to do any of 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset', 'Wipe Cache Partition' and 'Wipe Dalvik Cache'? Or is 'Clean to Install a New ROM' merely an amalgam of the above (plus added formats?)?

It's usually not necessary but it is ALWAYS advised to format /data /preload /system and cache before flashing a new ROM. If you don't do those wipes then you can sometimes end in a bootloop, random force closes, battery and performance issues et cetera. Basically if yoou want to flash a new ROM (unless it is an update to your current ROM) then always do a full wipe,
If you are just updating your ROM (ex. updating one nightly to another) then you just have to flash the ROM in recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache (in advanced)

If you're updating then yes, it's enough that you flash the ROM and then wipe cache and dalvik cache.
If you're reflashing from start then you should first do a full wipe, flash the ROM, gapps, su and that is all. No need to wipe the cache or dalvik cache again

Ah right. So if you're flashing a new ROM - then clean install is all that's necessary. If upgrading to a newer version of existing ROM, then it's better to wipe cache and dalvik post-install? Why? What does it do and how does it help?

The title says it all. I have been reading and searching. Many similar stories. I apologise if this is in the wrong place but this is very similar to my problem.
I have a galaxy i9505 trying to install a DjeMBeY ROM from TWRP.
I factory reset and wiped cache's BEFORE I flashed the .zip file so then had no .zip file to flash!
Also have erased my system backup and the USB WILL NOT SEEM TO MOUNT to copy it back onto the card.
I have read and read I am very struck.
I am not familiar with all the processes yet. Please help.

Hi, thanks for the advised. i have a similar prob. I dont have a sd card (external) and i just had installed xtrestolite 2.1 in my exynos S5 smg900h but google play services kept crashing so i decided to wipe clean to install new rom instead of just regular wipe data. i wanted to flash again xtrestolite but i did not know that the rom i had inthe internal memory of the phone was gonna be erased as well (i know iknow dumb me ) so now i cant get pass recovery, i dont know if download mode will work as i did not activate usb debug after i installed xtrestolite. if a go to mount usb nothing happens............. i dont know what to do ..

You can go with the download mode and install a stock ROM or use the 'adb sideload " feature of cwm recovery to install the zip of your ROM if you have it saved on your PC.

Thanks! i went with download mode, then installed a stock rom, i had to root again and flash philz touch and install xtrestolite and now everything is ok!
I believe I may have bricked my Fire HD 7". I decided to flash a new ROM. Something I've done many many times. However, this time I decided to wipe the SD card because I wanted to get rid of all the app folders, my documents, music, etc. and start from a clean state. The problem is that it occurred to me half a second after the wipe that the ROM zip as well as the backup were on the internal SD.
So now I'm in TWRP trying to mount the device, but Windows (8.1) will not recognize the internal storage and mount it as a drive. I have the latest drivers installed but nothing...
It seems I have no way of getting a new ROM onto the internal SD card so that I can flash as normal. Help?

Use a Linux distro live CD to side load the ROM.

Tried that under Ubuntu. I get an error message that the volume (Kindle) can't be mounted.
Figured out the solution. Neither Windows nor Linux would mount the device, so that I could transfer the ROM to internal storage the easy way. What worked was using ADB sideload. Now I'm relieved! For anyone else having this issue or a similar issue because they had a brain fart and wiped the internal storage AFTER wiping the ROM -- this is the solution to the problem. Use ADB sideload in TWRP.
So what are the steps

I'm in the exact same situation you were in (pre-brain fart) - I want to get a "fresh start" with my kindle. What are the steps I should take? I see in TWRP that I can wipe Dalvik, Data, Internal Storage, Cache and System.
I'm guessing I should wipe System, Cache, Dalvik, Flash the ROM, flash gapps, then wipe data/internal storage -- does this sound right?

Thanks - can you explain though? OP wanted to get rid of all of the music/documents/etc... Isn't the internal storage where these are? If not, what is stored here?
You can wipe internal if you want to, but be sure you can adb push your rom. I don't like to do this b/c it leaves you no backup plan. Besides, "fresh start" is mostly placebo imo.
