Verizon brought back unlimited data?(guess not, was misinformed) - Motorola Droid Bionic

Not sure if it's been gone over already, but I just called VZW and asked if any promos where going on, which there aren't, but I was told they brought back unlimited data plans again 3 weeks ago, for the same $29.99.

Really? The vzw rep said that? If so that's awesome!
Sent from my [R3] BLURR3D DROID BIONIC using XDA App.

Yup, give them a call! I already have it from my thunderbolt or I would have been all over it!

Not available on their website. Maybe like everything else, reps don't know what they're talking about.

If this were true we would've heard some report of this from other sources. Odds are the rep had no clue what was going on.

I'm calling them back to verify. Maybe someone else wants to call and see what's up.

Yep they allowed me to switch my daughters Thunderbolt to unlimited data. It's brought back to January 1st as a promotion for the iPhone 4S. That's from my rep. Laura Merritt

The new rep says she knows nothing about it, but is trying to get in touch with her.

Hmmm. Interesting, I wonder if it applies to new customers as well.

Ok, here it is. My original rep was what's called an 'overflow rep', these people are out sourced, and take calls when there are too many coming in to VZW. This person, of course, gave me misinformation.
Sorry guys, just looking out for you and that was too good not to share.

So now I don't know what to think, but I do think everyone without unlimited data should call and maybe get lucky.

There is nothing about this on the web either. If this is an iphone 4S promo why not adverstise it. This one is going into UFO status...

I won't complain. My plan got switched lol I have confirmation. And I have documentation. If they try to change I can get out of my contract for t-mo. I want open phones with verizon locking them.

What time of day did you call so I can get an overflow rep.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App

I can verify this is not true.
There was a loophole but it's closed now. For some time you could get unlimited data by adding the 4G only, $30 unlimited hotspot feature. By default it changes your data plan to the $29.99 unlimited.
It is only intended for customers with unlimited data already, but for awhile they were doing it for all 4G phones.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium

I got unlimited data last week.
I was on the 2 GB plan... never used that much since data doesn't work worth a crap. My company IT department finally appoved me to get me email on my phone using the "Good" app. As soon as I activated it, the Good servers sent me an email stating that I did not have a feature on my account and I needed to contact Verizon. So I did. I was told that I had to go to an enterprise plan to get my mail through the app. It would be $44.99 a month but it also included unlimited data. With my company's 22% discount, that brought it to $35.09. I pay $5.09 more for unlimited data over the 2 GB regular plan.

I've been on the phone with Verizon this morning and getting nowhere with this. I just moved from AT&T and definitely miss my unlimited data. I was told they know nothing about the unlimited data coming back for any period of time.
To anyone that gets it, congrats and enjoy!

ive been a vzw rep for a few years now and this is nothing that ive heard. tiered data was all part of a bigger plan that hasnt come into place yet. what i do know though is that service is able to put customers back onto unl data if they lose it due to a system error or weird change in their acct that doesnt involve a phone.

I actually had a rep laugh at me and hang up the phone.

[Q] Captivate question

Hi there,
I'm on AT&T with my parents family plan still, and my mom is eligible for an upgrade. We're both on iPhones at the moment, and I'm not due for an upgrade till 2012, but she is. So I was wondering, I have the unlimited data option on my iPhone, and she said she'd get the Captivate and give to me if I gave her the
3GS.
So my question is, can we just switch SIM cards? Or will there be some sort of hardware/data restriction?
Thanks in advance!
nope you can switch cards wihtout problem, i sold my 3Gs for a captivate and we switched sims without problem
They will automaticly change ur data plan if you dont

That's all I'm really worried about. Since it was clarified above that it would work.

Same here. To the OP make sure you speak to at&t representatives about what you are trying to for so you don't get sucked into a worthless limited plan. I made sure everything was done online and though the phone.
Sent from bad ass Captivate running Axura RC1!
If you get your Captivate from a 3rd party like Radio Shack or Best Buy, they sure will screw up your data package. if you go thru the ATT corporate stores, tho, you can stay on the grandfathered unlimited data plan...and yes you can switch from UNLIMITED IPHONE to UNLIMITED SMARTPHONE.
When i switched from my 3GS to the Captivate, I went to both a Best Buy and a Shack, and they both told me they had to switch me to the new data plans...I went to the Death Star and got it done with no problem.
A month or two later, I even switched my data plan back to the UNLIMITED IPHONE so that when I work on phones in my store, I have a sim that lets me access the network if wifi doesnt work.
My sim goes between my Captivate and my Dell Streak and I have no problems with data...
-----VERY IMPORTANT----
I don't have voice mail on any of my phones because the iPhone data plan is provisioned for Visual Voicemail, and since I'm not using an iPhone, my voicemail box isn't set up. There is probably a work-around, but it's not a big deal for me, so as long as my plan is for the iPhone, and my sim is in something else, you can't leave me a message.

I have struck out 4 times trying to activate my Woot Tab on Sprint Month to Month?

Guys,
I need your help! From time to time I hear success stories on people activating their Woot Galaxy Tabs on a Sprint Month to Month plan. I tried in 3 stores as well as calling employee sales (as a SERO customer I am routed to Employee care) and have been told that there are NO non contract [email protected]!
HELP!
It's B.S, the reps you've spoken to either are trying to force a contract on you for their commissions or they do not know their job. Unfortunately, you just have to keep trying or just walk into a Sprint direct store and see what happens.
Or just get the $11 prepaid data from boost, and flash your tab.

these guys(http://www.robostars.com/) claim to do it, they even have a video of it functioning. they charge a hefty price however ($109), but you'll get unlimited internet for $11 a month,, but the price is a turnoff. < I have not done this nor went to the site...Just linking you to what the guy left who left you empty handed was talking about. COmment on what you think after reading the site..Maybe this is something we can do ourself...Im to lazy to go to the site since they are charging.
I actually just went to the Sprint store to ask about a M2M plan. They told me they could not do it because if you're not on a contract, they can't legally force you to pay your bills. I swear to any god you want me to swear to that is what they said. M2M plans can't be forced to pay their bills.

How to get Unlimited Data on AT&T

I'm just transferring this thread from the Atrix forum for those that would be interested in getting onto (or back onto) AT&T's unlimited data plan rather than the tiered plans they offer.
It requires an IPhone 2G in order to do it and a sim card that has not been previously registered on an IPhone.
It does work, I did it on my own lines with ease.

I have no idea but are you still tethering? Like as in are you still tethering hours later? If so, you might want to watch how much you're tethering. If you push it too far, AT&T can find out and put you on a tethering plan.
Right now I'm on Sprint and would like to move over to AT&T but like most of you want unlimited data. If I switch I will get 3 lines (family plan) 2 iphone 4s's for my two sisters and 1 Samsung Skyrocket for me. Anyone know if its possible for us to get unlimited data?

Double your data plan

Anyone on capped data may be interested to know that starting tomorrow you can double your data allowance for no extra cost through the month of November.

Android Central posted details about this with an indirect sales slide. One of the bullet points said:
"4G LTE Smartphone customers who make a price plan change or an ESN change during the promotional period will be asked to select one of the promotional options."
The way I'm reading that is, If you upgrade to any 4G phone during the promotion period you will be asked to choose one of these tired plans and lose unlimited data.
This wouldn't be the first time Verizon has done something like this. I wouldn't be surprised if they say that the RAZR, Nexus, and Rezound are not compatible with the unlimited data package.
I've never been on the "personal email" option -- always had work paying for it and had the corp email and hotspot. Can someone with a regular data account (i.e., personal email, not corporate) tell me whether there is any restriction on data activities with one of these "regular" plans? Other than tethering, I mean. Like, can I still use the regular email app and all my other good stuff?
Thanks, and sorry for the noob question. On ATT, I never worried about this stuff. (Turns out that was the only plus about ATT, but I digress.)

Actually I think this is Verizon testing the waters and trying to find middle ground between unlimited and their current offers. Everyone and their mothers are flocking to Sprint because of their unlimited data, albeit they have issues of their own. If this experiment goes well this may end up being their new tiered plans or they may extend the promotional period. Verizon is not looking to stick their unlimited users, they've moved on. It's all about the next dollar. Now that at&t is deploying LTE they need to separate themselves from the pack.

I don't know if they would be violating the TOS. I'm pretty sure the contracts that we all signed gave them the right to change any damn thing they want, whenever they want to.
This move has probably been planne for since 4g was a but a twinkle in their eye.
I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait out our "upgraded" contracts until the original end dates. And they're betting that by then, we'll have gotten used to the "upgrades."
I just love that have the nuts to call this an upgrade. Freaking hilarious.
well from what ive read, it's for customers with a 3G phone going to a 4G phone. I think if you don't upgrade from them you should be able to keep it. Looks like if the Nexus line expands and is sold through the google play store, im buying my phones straight from google

that how i'm reading it too, it doesn't sound like i will be required to change my data plan until i upgrade again.
The way it will likely work is that as 3G unlimited contracts expire, Verizon will push subscribers to upgrade their devices to smartphones on company's 4G LTE network. These customers will then have to sign up for the data share plans.

Probably. But that's the velvet glove. Do we know anything about the iron hand inside? If Verizon's spiel is "Upgrade to 4G LTE" and the customer's response is "No thanks", will Verizon counter with "Upgrade to LTE or else find another provider"?
The mindset I'm sensing behind killing off grandfathered unlimited is that they want all of their customers capped, and if you won't be capped, you won't be their customer. They're playing chicken, and most of their affected customer base will be the first to flinch.

Yeah, looks like they've opened a loophole in their plan. You lose your grandfathered unlimited if you buy a subsidized new phone (i.e., renew contract). So, if you craigslist or ebay a phone, and convince Verizon to activate it, you'll keep the unlimited data. (Or, if you like giving money to Verizon, buy the phone new from them.)
Interesting. I wonder how many upgrading customers who want the new-new shiny and don't pay much attention to contract plan dynamics will miss that distinction and lose their unlimited access without fully realizing it?
Yup im switching to tmobile! This is such bs!! Tmobile will b the only carrier left with "unlimited" data, after verizon pulls this stunt!!! Oh well, tmobile @ least has the one series phones. Suck it verizon!!
