Hi ....
Perhaps you can help me and say which rom is the stablest and smoothest and fastest for the LG Optimus 2X P990 ... i have tried a lot of roms but they all have bugs ...
The fastest and stablest for me was this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032419 and then the 1.5 a version i think but the new version should be fine.
CM7 is also good since it uses less battery but there are some bugs in it still.
I'm a bit of a newbie to the O2X but I've tried a few roms and I've found that the modaco fr15 fear edition is pretty much like stock with a few nice tweaks so it's very stable from what I've seen so far, they've stripped pretty much everything out that you don't need so it's pretty quick too (well very quick).
I've put the over clocking kernel on too and with it over clocked to 1.4 ghz I've got 3976 on Quadrant. But after a while I started to get a few fc's so I put it back down to stock and everything was fine again.
I'm not saying this is what you should do, but I'm just letting you know my experiences with what I've tried so far.....
Also new to this forum. Anyway, I am using Fear r15 and have no problems at all. Very smooth, although I am missing some of my favorite LG Widgets ( Memo and Calendar ) , it is the stability without lags that made me switch to Fear ROM.
I'm on Modaco FR16(beta 4), and it's fast & smooth, and kind to your battery. My only problem is that my Exchange account keeps on disappearing, but it could be my Exchange server.

I'm thinking of going onto this rom cos I have noticed the fast battery drain on fr15... But i have only had the phone for a couple of days and i didn't really get a chance to see what it was like on stock, so I don't know whether its normal.
One thing I did notice was the fact the the music app is constantly running and even my task killer wont stop it. I know I probably dont need a task killer but its habit since I had my G1 many moons ago...
I'm using the CM7 nightlies and am very pleased with them. There are a few bugs and issues to be worked out (eg: no 801.2x support for WiFi), but for the most part, I'm very satisfied.
I only lost 5% in 10 hours with GMail push on .

@ Zarras.
Thanks a lot. LG Memo and Calendar is up and running.
I'm running CM7 nightly as well. The battery drain is basically non-existence and everything running smoothly. It also has quite a nice collection of customization options. If you can live with a few bugs then it's the rom to go!

CM7 is great (even with the bugs) but my battery will probably last me 3 hours tops. Any clue to what's going on?

I had the battery problem as well on build #19, but I believe it's gone on the #24 I'm using right now.

Install Battery Calibration, charge to full then calibrate battery
You can also do the same by charging to full then wipe battery stats in recovery.
CM has a full list of APNs if there are some which aren't in use delete them off.
Flash your Radio to 0218, seem to work better than 0405 regarding battery issues. This will be at the expense of some call quality, to me it is worth it.
I am using CM7 at the moment and I have no intention of switching back.
Ive been using CM7 build 20 for some days and there was several things that was missing. It was stabel, but was using a great deal of battery.
So I switched over til BlazingDragon v1.7. This one is working wherey nice. Its based on the stock LG ROM so its only Android 2.2.2. CM7 is ver. 2.3.4.
Now i see that Modaco fr17 is out, but there is so many custom ROM out there so now Im not sure what to.
CM7 is getting better for every built they give out, but its not that good yeat, but Im sure it will be great when RC versjon is ready.
how about WGSPOELSTRA?
Im very happy with the latest madaco. CM is still way to unstable.

For a long while now an on many different roms I have noticed my phone rebooting at what appears to be random atleast twice a week.
It's never been when in a call and I often only notice it because I see the boot animation on my phone out of the corner of my eye while it was doing nothing but being sat on my desk! Also I know when it has done it because it has switched back to my default network which I am not normally on.
For me I have had it on everything from CM7 to Juwes to docs rom to stock. If this is not normal behaviour I fear that my phone may have a hardware fault
Post your random reboot experiences here!
My experience: rarely with Darky 10.1, I got one today with Juwe 5.1 but I installed this rom two days ago and still making some experiment.
Bye.
always close to stock cfroot only + own changes = never had issues ...
Both my husband and I get them at least twice a week also, we are on stock JVH that we got from O2 through Kies, not rooted or anything. we are thinking of phoning samsung tomorrow, we never had any of these on 2.2, so I think it must be software with us both getting them since 2.3. both our phones are still in guarantee, although if it is software I dont know what they can do
TBH I haven't actually been on a pure stock rom for quite some time. From what I remember I would get the occasional random reboot but probably not quite as often as I have done since turning to custom roms.
Could some fundamental change that many custom roms make cause this?
Or could perhaps a certain rogue app which I have had installed on many different roms be causing this?

Yes this is partly why I decided to create this thread and try to get to the bottom of it. My warranty runs out in 2/3 months and the paranoid side of me fears a hardware issue. I also started on 2.2 and don't think I got quite as many, if any, random reboots then which seems to coincide with your experiences.

Yeah our guarantee runs out in about 6 or 7 weeks which is why I thought of phoning them, my phone has been back once because the motherboard or whatever its called had to be replaced. do you think it could be hardware?

I have no idea. I'm starting to think probably not. so far 75% of people to this poll have reboots either daily or weekly. I think it could be a software bug in all gingerbread based roms but i really don't no. Would be interesting to flash back to stock froyo and see if it persists then.
Keep an eye on this thread and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this

question/thread title is "Does your phone suffer from random reboots?" so majorityof people that does not have any reboots/problems will not join to read so they will not vote
also by the thread title in some way youre determining the anserw yet still youve got 15 people voted (thats not authoritative + 350 thread openings...) & 33% of them said NEVER
I used to get random reboots on stock firmware, because samsung can't write software! Since running cm7 based software (insanity cm) I haven't had one single reboot, the stability is mindblowing and it is super stable, however it is not really for flashing novices, just my humble opinion

Yes I do admit I haven't received the amount of feedback I was hoping for in this thread. And yes I am fully aware that polling on here is far from an accurate way of gathering data exactly for the reason you suggested but still I hoped to learn something about the extent of this phenomenon.
Also when I wrote that quote that you critisied for being inaccurate it was correct at the time. If not a little premature
However please feel free to share your experiences (or lack of) the topic in question.
I voted 'very rarely' - usually when running a buggy app that uses all RAM and CPU.
No reboots by itself so far.
to much, using dark core 2.6 , pilotx rom
Wow I thought I am the only who suffer with this..LOL...My phone is running JVO 2.3.3 and I updated it via Kies...no root no lagfix, quite a virgin Galaxy S..hahaah...
Very rarely, and it was only after this one time I had to swap batteries and didn't allow the phone to fully shutdown which must've caused some corruption. Even though I restored a backup certain things just seemed off and turned out I did had problems with reboots and so after that, most likely being the cause.
Besides that, after putting in a fresh ROM and whatnot, never had issues, not before the incident save once maybe.
I have changed to juwe 5.1 today from his 5.0. Was playing angry birds and left phone down for minute, then soon as screen locked it rebooted itself. Have not tried with other apps yet. Will post back when tried them out
Hey all,
As I've posted occasionally on other messages, my O2X was a launch device which had BSOD problems. Had hoped that LG would fix with software but alas no so sent for repair and now have it back all flashed to stock.
Question is what now. I'm going on the basis that they've fixed it (lord knows I want to believe that!).
I had previously installed FR19 which I liked for near to sock google feel.
But I feel that I should use this chance to go to a GB rom.
Has their been a poll done recently on what ROM peeps are using and their recommendations?
Would love this or your guys opinions on what to use.
Thinking either modaco GR4, Cyn nightlies or Cyn 7.1.
I would love as stable as possible as use it as main phone.
What do you guys think?
Cheers
No issues on topogigi 1.9 apart from a spontaneous restore rebooting once.. fixed with a rom backup
Gr4 all the way

if you don´t mind reflashing new versions quite often : CM (for me)
i like daily development ...
think I'm going to try 7.1.
But will first flash a new BB.
End of the day nothing to lose as it's stock at the moment and sadly didn't backup correctly before I sent it off.
What's the best way to backup apps and settings etc?
IMHO go for topogigi 1.9. It is stable enough for an everyday use, light and super fast (combined with the V6 SuperCharger and the HorsePower kernel).
But if you have to choose between "GR4, Cyn nightlies or Cyn 7.1", choose CyanogenMod. It is more stable than GR4. And BTW CM 7.1 is nothing more or less than a nightly version.
EDIT: Use Titanium Backup for backing up all your apps and system data, although I don't recommend backing up system data, especially when upgrading from froyo to gb.
(OFFTOPIC: I hate this five minutes waiting time when editing, it is sooo irritating...)

I agree, the best is titanium backup. For me because of the. Batch backup which I have set to run every Wednesday and Friday at 10pm just so it backs any new apps iv got and also I really like the market links as I haven't found another backup which does it (haven't looked that hard as I found TB quickly). You have to be rooted to be able to do this, just I case you were wondering.
Thanks all for the messages, will give horse kernel a go. but whats the difference between the 32bpp and the 24bpp downloads?
Also any recommendations on baseband to use? Was going to get the 725 GB one from modaco if that'll work?

The 32BPP version uses more resources than the 24BPP. You will also see a slight difference in vividness compared to the 24BPP. I recommend you to use the 24BPP, because I personally think it is enough for the O2X.
As for a baseband, I can't say for sure which one is the best, because some say it is 725, other say it is 622. I am using the 725 baseband and I am happy with it.
Dude, you're being a ledgend tonight thanks for the quick replies!
I'm now getting 725BB but cannot see a GB version so hopefully got the right one. Just seeing what other tweaks I want to make then I'll crack on.

All I can say from last night and this morning is....WOW
Installed topogigi 1.9, the SP, horsepower kernel, GB BB (725) and then the BGB theme.
Phone feels miles better than before.
Only thing I've noted is used Set DNS to speed up market but it gets granted super user every time from wake therefore slowing the startup.
Can live with a slightly slower market and therefore deleted it.
Cheers all
SetDNS grants superuser permissions every time from wake because your Wifi/3G is turned on at this moment. A way to get around this is to set Wifi sleep policy to never but this will drain your battery faster.
Has it SOD'd since the repair? Thinking of sending mine off but just don't want it to be a complete waste of time like I expect it will be
Haha I was same as you in terms of would it be worth sending it off.
Carphone warehouse inform me they replaced the main PCB and reflashed back to v10D on 405? BB (thats the only bit I could confirm they have defo done).
I've had it for 24 hours now, charged by mains twice, once on stock and once on topogigi 1.9 with HP kernel. No BSOD as yet. First time on stock was at work when I was almost guaranteed a BSOD, so fingers crossed.
It has got quite hot when I was downloading and installing apps last night, but no BSOD. Been hot a few times today as well but so far so good.
Will report back in a few days and let you know if it's still OK.

i used topogigi 1.9 with the "original" built in kernel (neoblaze), but i was not satisfied, due to some strange issues/bugs.
for the moment i would recommend you the following ROMs as really stable and having a good battery management:
- topogigi 1.7 SP1
- DJDroid 1.0 (i'm using that at the moment).
Well currently 1.9 with the HP kernel seems cracking to me thus far.
Only thing for me is waking up seems slow. Changed the lock screen to ripplelock free and its a bit better. But once you're in whips around good and proper. No lag between screens or downloading / installing from market. Much happier than stock and have to say better than FR19 which I used before sending for repair.

You can fix the slow waking up, just read the ROM FAQ by Topogigi Question 6. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18146527&postcount=2126

I have never tried to do it, TrymHansen has made an app for it, just give it a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1296400
I have had this problem since i have gotten the actual phone. I thought a replacement battery would help but it hasn't. This all happens randomly no matter the charge of my battery and I have read it to be an issue. Do i just need to put my phone back to stock and exchange it? Right now I am running a simple deoxed ota rom with root. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ive had significantly less blackscreens on cm7. Some nightlies i never had a black screen and others every now and then. I usually just insert cable to get out of it
Miui is the only rom I haven't had a blackscreen on which makes sense considering their update schedule is very slow and they havent updated the 2x rom for some time.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
I also get a blackscreen every few days
Any ways around this? Still experiencing the problem :\ Cm nightly 177 & was doing it on another previous nightly too.
BB 405, if that makes a difference.
I had the issue too.
I rooted my device and removed a whole lotta LG Crapware. Had a considerable improvement. Though the BSODs occurred every once in a while.
After that, I flashed HP kernel RC2..
Haven't had any BSOD since then.
So.. I'd suggest getting back to the stock ROM, root it, remove LG Crapware and flash HP RC4 Kernel!
Hope it solves your BSOD issue as well!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
you could also try topogigi's ROM with HP kernel, i don't have any issues with it and i like that it's stock
awh, I don't feel like going back to LG's crapware (even if Topigigi made it good) I like the stock android look and feel.
I think I'll just suck it up and keep the blackscreens if it means I get to keep cm7 I might try topogigi later and see how good it is, but for now my heart lies with cm7.

No rom is perfect or completely bug free - even stock isn't. So the choice of which rom you'll use depends on some tradeoffs. If you can live with some forced closes and the lack of hardware acceleration isn't an issue, I'd say go with CyanogenMod 9, since ICS brings a fantastic user experience. Otherwise, CyanogenMod 7 is a great choice, but it lacks some convenient stuff from stock, like HDMI settings and some cool widgets, for example, but is definetly faster.
If you are looking for stable, a stock rom free of brand software, but it's always recommended to try and see what fits you. You have some gb tweaked roms, CM7 and WIUI which is the one I'm currently using (and loving), have had some randoms reboots but it's still worthy.
More stable i think CM 7 but more costumized are cm9, you choose

thx ppl, for me bugs are ´t a force close ... aplication not responding .. or something like that is for example gps don´t work, radio, batery drain.... etc
Dont pick any CM rom at all, the rom's cant handle a baseband that work 100% so you get a lot of system FC and statusbar is gone, and also a lot of instability and battery drains.
If i were you go for stock, the AmnonRom V20q
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544105 is a nice one.
Baseband : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500443 get 313 only one working for me of so many basebands, and i have a SU660 :S
If you have a normal 2x go for 420, my mate says he waited a year for a working baseband and it is the only one working for him.
People who are saying that CM is stable on 2x is ether A. Protecting the dev so he can continue working, or B. lieing to make them self feel better(or pick a reason).
Too many tests have been done on the basebands and none of last year basebands work.
ok i go try this one, ther no vercion 2.3.7 working good?
for the post i see ICS is working like crap..
There is no baseband for ICS so you will loose signal and voice in phone will be bad.
And ofc no HW drivers for ICS.

On your "CM is stable" choices, you forgot to add a third option:
C. smart enough to know what they're doing. And are enjoying their O2X alot.
CM7 runs great, CM9 runs good.
I will never go back to stock.
@dinmorerbedst:
It sucks that you have had that bad experience but this doesn't mean others have that, too. I don't know if you're just unlucky and got a bad phone or didn't read enough to flash the right CM builds.
Most people are very happy with Cyanogenmod builds and they run great for them. Period.
I hope you all who have updated your device would care to share a little bit more than "it's great" or "it's crap". This thread now seems to get a little bit better, but it could be really good if you guys could open up a little bit what did you do etc. so that it's easier to determine what worked / what didn't.
I'm frustrated with LG at the moment and want to get a custom ROM. Therefore I do really appreciate your comments and experience as some of you have been already experimenting in this area. Now I'm just trying to figure out what did each of you do and I'm willing to write / update instructions what to do for this device if I get it to work.
dinmorerbedst said:
I have personaly tested all the roms i could get from this forum on 2- 2x phones+ all the basebands.
I can tell you that CM9 is the most unstable rom to date.
If my phone's hardware is bugged why is it the same for 2 versions of the mobile?
It seems like you dont look at your status bar very often, cause "crash bands" that will say pre 2012 basebands crash on both mobiles, and on another of my friends P990.
3 devices, 2 identical(P990) and 1 SU660 with the same problems all over, they need the 313(SU660) and 420(P990) basebands to work, that cant be faulty hardware, that is faulty LG.
Ril dont matter at all, i cant see difference and log cat reports the same, nothing different.
You guys can bang your head to my reply's but 2 months of hardcore testing should speak for it self.
TBH i could care less about people that dont even test they phone and just state CM7 works fine, when it dont.

I'm on CM9 since arcee's sk, and though it's not perfect it's fast becoming pretty stable, to me at least. My baseband is 405 with matching ril and all works fine, no reboots, no bsod, no nothing. Tested nova hd, owain since 1 to 74, even MIUI V4, and all works really well.
Also temaseks CM7 is the most stable rom i tried, so either you have 2 faulty devices or i am one lucky bastard.
Just my 2 cents.

There is no baseband for ICS so you will loose signal and voice in phone will be bad.
And ofc no HW drivers for ICS.

That's a lot of nonsense in just two postings. :O
CM9 is quite fine for everyday use, just video makes problems. That's why I am on temasek's CM7. Flawless, and I am a heavy user.

I am also on Temaseks CM7 and enjoying it a lot. Especially since the latest overclocked kernel
I didn't bother to read the whole thread, but basically what I did was:
1. Root phone
2. Install Clockwork Recovery
3. Flash latest Temasek rom
4. Flash latest Temasek kernel, which can be found on the same servers as his roms.
I used to miss my (stolen) Galaxy S when I got this 'inferior' 2X. It was slow and development wasn't as plentiful. Then I got AlienRevolution, also a CM7 rom. It was good, but development stopped. Then I tried the ICS roms too, but had random problems, slowness and usually no GPS fix. Along with the 'no video' thing, it was a no brainer to go back to CM7.
I don't miss the Galaxy S anymore. The 2X is stable, fast, GPS fixes are rediculously fast (10 seconds, no matter where I am). Battery life lasts me more than 24hrs (but thats with 2G, using 3G only when necessary). Friends who adore their Iphone4 are also impressed by the snappyness, so it's not just me. Infact, I'm so happy with this stuff that I won't buy a new phone for at least a year. How's that?
To be fair, I never tried the modded stock roms.
edit: Apperently some guy in this thread is bad mouthing CM7 and its users. Quite weird that 100's of happy users all lie to themselves to keep a developer happy... Anyways as for stability, I use my phone for gaming and benchmarking, and not once has it crashed or FC'd.

What do mean by that? do you test out the basebands or are you just trash talking about stuff you know nothing about?
Video is not the only problem for these "kangs"
Lets see... this forum is basicly dead, what i mean is that alot of people already left, and you guys that are left are talking nice and backing up the devs, when they work is not really all that good and most of the time the so called "fixes" dont fix anything.
All cause you are scarred they might leave or get a better phone.
And btw why use 218 ril as standard for CM roms when i and others get data loss and most of the time no signal at all, when using old basebands and they obsolete ril's.
I mean come on guys so many basebands with unstable data connection and you guys say it is working? i have to lol at you guys, it is the same in the goverment :
"It is working not perfectly but just.... so it is fine."
That is your attitude and it is lol, really.

I pretty much echo JohnnieDarko's sentiment, followed those four steps (but only installing vanilla CM7 7.2 RC2) and my phone felt like it was a totally different thing. Heck I didn't even match my RIL yet (725 BB but on the 4xx RIL or some stupid thing).
If you're so fed up with this, why even bother posting in the forum anymore? Just move on...

I have non of your problems. Data connections are stable, with CM9 as well as CM7. No idea what you did with your phone(s). You either live in deepest Tadjikistan and it's simply your network that fails ... or you should reconcider this awful habbit of making your phones swim in your garden pond. It WILL damage the hardware.
As I said: Video is a problem still with CM9. That's it.

I use NOVA HD rom but it bugs a lot and updates a lot but it is pretty cool and I like it.
