Hi guys,
I'm having a problem installing OpenRecovery to my phone and hope that you will have a hint for me.
What I have:
Motorola Milestone (Firmware 2.2.1, Vodafone branding)
RSD Lite v5.0
Vulnerable SBF: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf
Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3
What I do:
Save OpenRecovery folder and update.zip file from Androidiani OpenRecovery to my SD Card
Boot Milestone holding Up on DPAD
Plugging USB Cable in and starting RSD Lite (Note that it shows my phone, but no IMEI/ESN/MEID)
I select the vulnerable SBF File and click "Start" (holding the Up Button on DPAD while doing it)
Once RSD Lite shows PASS as Result I unplug the USB Cable and switch off the milestone
I switch on the milestone holding the X-Key pressed.
In the triangle screen I press volume-up and camera.
I select apply sdcard:update.zip
Now the following is shown (yellow font):
Code:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
So far I tried
Using vulnerable SBF files from different sources
Running RSD Lite as administrator
Can anyone tell me, what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you.
After some experimenting I solved the problem: Obviously the update.zip file got altered after putting the SD-Card in the phone (don't know how).
So what I did is to deleted the update.zip file and OpenRecovery folder from the SD-Card, flashed the vulnerable SBF, put the files mentioned again on the SD (after turning of the phone and inserting the SD into my PC) and booted into the triangle screen.
...and it works.
Thread can be closed.
Days ago i had this... lol..
Well, thx for the solution
Hi..
thank you for your solution..
but can u pls gave us the tools you used..?
* Motorola Milestone ( supported arabic language if you have)
* RSD Lite v5.0
* Vulnerable SBF: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf
* Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3
thank you so much

Now updated and working!
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
Koush and I have been working on / stumbling through getting recovery running on a Legend without using a PC for devices rooted with a test image. The same technique also applies to the Desire... and after a lot of work and debugging... presenting...
fake-flash!
Fake-flash using a similar concept to the original root method, it launches a recovery image from the test image recovery, but instead of pushing the files from a PC, the files are extracted from an update.zip on the SD card. Here's how it works...
Preperation
Download the fake-flash update zip from one of the links below
Copy the update.zip to the root of your SD card (the name MUST remain as update.zip)
When you want to launch the recovery image
Turn on your device with 'volume down' pressed and select 'Recovery'
When the exclamation mark appears, press and hold 'volume up' then press 'power'
Select the second option, 'Apply sdcard:update.zip
That's it, ClockworkMod recovery should launch!
Neat eh?
DOWNLOAD
Just to caveat this initial release, we've yet to carry out extensive testing and you are constrained somewhat by the limitations of the stock kernel (e.g. no support for EXT4).
That's it for now... enjoy... i'll update this post as further advances are made. If you'd like to support Koush's work, consider buying 'ROM Manager Premium' from the Android Market.

i got saem errår Q.Q!
question
What does it really do excatly, i am a newbiee here. Sorry about that.
if your phone is rooted you can flash a new rom without connecting your phone to the computer
It works only on rom 1.22 i think...
you probably need a goldcard for that, so keep it in mind
still not working?
Thread disapeard on modaco :s
To someone this procedure works?
From that that I have understood it is not the FakeFlash of the Desire of the Legend?
And accordingly on the Legend it doesn't work (at least on my Device )
Would like us a FakeFlash I suit for the legend
I cannot make it work.
Just like other i receive this error:
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
in the modaco topic (http://android.modaco.com/content/h...unching-recovery-on-your-device-without-a-pc/) is written in bold:
Note: The recommended install method for fake-flash is now 'ROM Manager' on the Android Market.
I tried but ROM Manager:
Clicked on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
it pops up a selection Menu with "Confirm Phone Model" (the only option is HTC Legend)
then it downloads the fake-flash recovery e returns me "Successfully downloaded ClockworkMod recovery".
When i try to reboot in recovery (trough ROM MANAGER options) i receive a blackscreen with a device in background and a question mark. After some seconds it restarts.
Help!
I have the same error.
Anybody asked Koush?
May he works on it?

running froyo xxjpk on a uk galaxy s. im using the method in which you put update.zip on the sd card, boot into recovery mode and select apply sdcard.update.zip.
this is what the screen shows....
finding update package...

iv tried a couple of different downloads of update.zip but always get the same error msg. any advice would be appreciated.
you need to flash the kernels found in the jpk thread mate
Extract and copy update.zip to internal sd-card of your phone
- Make sure kies is not running
- Disconnect your Phone
- Run odin with auto reboot UN-checked and repartition UN-checked, loading the i9000_Kernel.tar as PDA
- Put the phone into download mode
- Connect your Phone via USB and flash the i9000_Kernel.tar without pit file
- Pull the battery and disconnect your Phone
- Reboot into recovery mode and flash the update.zip you put in the root folder of your sdcard.
- Pull the battery again, reboot into download mode again.
- Run odin with auto reboot checked, loading the I9000XXJPK_Kernel.tar as PDA
- Connect your Phone via USB and flash the the I9000XXJPK_Kernel.tar without pit file
The method with the copying of programs in system / app is no longer in the JPK. This is needed now the current root Explorer 2.12.3. Bug in the firmware ...
thx a lot. worked very smothly.
started off this morning as a complete noob with an sgs not being able to enter recovery or download with the three button problem. now i have a fully working sgs on froyo rooted and lag fixed.....
Title.
Everytime i try applying update.zip this error message appears.
Tried almost everything possible but can't find a solution for this problem.
How can i get into fastboot-mode?
bump
I also have this problem.
About a month ago Milestone was upgraded through cable to official Froyo.
Today, GOT_RTEU_2_2_1FULL.sbf was flashed with RSD Lite 4.9, using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698059
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983516
After going to recovery (x + power, vol up + camera) and trying to update previously copied Open Recovery 3.3, following problem occurs:
Code:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or else)
Screenshot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20342824/2011-06-23 14.09.06.jpg
I've read that I can have my recovery reverted to non-vulnerable because of having flashed official OTA (and I can't undo this step)
Could this be the cause for such error message?
This is my wife's Moto, we really need to put a decent FW on it, stock Froyo is very disappointing
I flash a lot SBF file got and official, and vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78
but all the time it write:
E:failed to to verify whole file signature
please help me (I jest want to get back to my alfa CM9 )
Please give more information, such as:
Device Model (A853/A854/A855/XT)
Bootloader version (90.78, etc)
Operating system of your PC
Screenshot of error from RSDLite if SBF flashing is failing
Exact filename of SBF that's failing to flash
Can we also get this moved out of Development?
the other forums(not the dev) haven't a lot activity.
- A853
- 90.78
- win 7 64Bit
- no RSD err , for any SBF file
anybady???
hi,
i got the same problem and i did a research and found a way to fix it and it worked!
what you must do is:
1.flash the sbf file
2.remove the sdcard from the phone and insert it in to the PC
3.copy the update.zip and the openrecovery to the root of the sdcard
4.put the sdcard in the phone
5.hold (on the keyboard) x and the power button
6.select the update.zip and it should work
the problem is that when you flash the sbf it corrupt the update.zip (don't ask me why)
and i am not sure if it will work if you copied the update.zip and the open recovery via the usb
if i helped you please press the thanks button ^.^
As bad x boy already said, you need to flash the vulnerable recovery file ( vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf ) with RSD, then copy on the root of your SD card the recovery files ( update.zip and OpenRecovery folder - I chose Open Recovery 3.3). With the phone turned off, press the camera button while pressing the ON/OFF button. When you see the triangle, press the volume up key, then the camera button and from that menu, choose apply update from sd card or something like that. It should work just fine from now on. Good luck!
Hi, I hope some can help me
Here´s my story, the phone is a Galaxy Ace GT-S5830m, that had GingerBread 2x, I wanted to take it to Kit kat 4x, then I downloaded the CWM 6.0.4.6, but, because of my ignorance, I didn't downloaded the KitKat rom file at the same time, I successfully installed the CWM file, but after this the phone won't boot. The only thing it does is:
Enter recovery mode by pressing Volume Up+Home+Power
Show the Samsung logo
But I cannot make it enter download mode, if I hit VolumeDown+Home+Power it just shows the Samsung logo
If I connect it to the PC via USB cable, the PC won't recognize the phone on the USB drivers list. I already downloaded the Samsung USB drivers
When I enter recovery mode I see the four options for
rebbot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe date/factory reset
wipe cache partition
And below that I see --Appling Multi-CSC --
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
What can I do? I'm I done? Please help! Thanks!

Hi Raakib, thanks for taking the time to answer! But how can I put the cwm v5 in the phone if the PC doesn't see the phone? Sorry for the basic questions? I'm new in this things. The first time I did this I pluged the phone to the PC and I was able to see the memory card in the windows explorer so I only did a drag and drop, but that doesn't work any more, please advice, thanks!
just do 1 thing download the recovery file on your pc and then plug your sd card using any sort of card reader and then copy the file to memory card . Then insert the memory card in the phone and go to recovery and flash it. Hit thanks.

if u want that your pc should recognize your phone, take it to download mode and see it gets detected in odin or not , if not then swap the drivers maybe upgrade or downgrade.
still no luck

Hi Raakib, just to let you know that I haven't had any luck with this, this is what I have tried, with a memory card reader connect to my PC, because the PC still doesn't see the phone
Using CWM v5.0.2.6 and with that version trying to install the original rom I get this
-- Installing: /sdcard/Downloads/S5830MUMnD1_S5830MTCEND1_TCE.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
So my attempt to recover gingerbread was unsuccessful, now, in all honesty I have no idea if I'm using the correct zip file of gingerbread, I mean, I downloaded from the sammobile page and choose the one for my country, but the instructions call for odin and to unzip the fiel, so I don't know if this zip file can just be copied to the SDcard and be unziped with CWM. So CMW needs special rom files different from the ones odin uses?
On my second attempt using CWM 6.0.4.6 to try to install kit kat 4.4 using the instructions from the androidcure website called "How to install Android KitKat on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830", it mentions that I must use cwm v6 and the rom file called cm-11.0.0-RC4-GT-S5830-cooper-PS.zip I get this
-- Install /sdcard/Downloads ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
This package is for "cooper.GT-S5830" devices: this is a "".
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
If I use cwm v5 to try to mount /system (which is permanently un-mounted) I get this
mount: mounting /dev/block/stl9 on /system failed: Invalid argument
W:failed to mount /dev/block/stl9 (File exists)
W:failed to mount /dev/blockstl9 (no such device)
Error mounting system!
The phone still won't go in download mode and is still not visible by the PC
Any other suggestion? Thanks!!!!
