hi,
i got the same problem and i did a research and found a way to fix it and it worked!
what you must do is:
1.flash the sbf file
2.remove the sdcard from the phone and insert it in to the PC
3.copy the update.zip and the openrecovery to the root of the sdcard
4.put the sdcard in the phone
5.hold (on the keyboard) x and the power button
6.select the update.zip and it should work
the problem is that when you flash the sbf it corrupt the update.zip (don't ask me why)
and i am not sure if it will work if you copied the update.zip and the open recovery via the usb
if i helped you please press the thanks button ^.^
As bad x boy already said, you need to flash the vulnerable recovery file ( vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78.sbf ) with RSD, then copy on the root of your SD card the recovery files ( update.zip and OpenRecovery folder - I chose Open Recovery 3.3). With the phone turned off, press the camera button while pressing the ON/OFF button. When you see the triangle, press the volume up key, then the camera button and from that menu, choose apply update from sd card or something like that. It should work just fine from now on. Good luck!

hi can someone help me i have a nexus one and i am trying to update to 2.2 but the link wont work it comes up with google error. the phones build number is ERE36B, production team is ax918 and the kernel version is 2.6.33-hiapk. i did try to update a while a go but the phone would not unpack it. so if someone could help he it would be cool
That sounds like a custom ROM, download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...le_WWE_2.16.1700.1_FRG33_MFG_Shipment_ROM.zip
It's a zip within a zip, so extract it, rename it passimg.zip and copy it to the root of the SD card. Power off the phone, hold Vol- and power on, it will boot into the bootloader, find the file and ask if you want to install. It will wipe the phone, so make sure you've backed up.
Next download this:
http://android.clients.google.com/p...01ae02c.signed-passion-ota-60505.766a101a.zip
Rename it update.zip and copy it to the root of the SD card (bin the passimg while you're at it). Power off phone, hold Vol- and power on. Select recovery. At the picture of the Android and warning triangle hold down the power button and press Vol+,and choose install update.
Job done.
cool cool i will going and try it now

thank you so much i have contacted so many people and you are the only one that help me 5 stars
No worries buddy
thank you Rusty, I needed this info for a problem I had but now fixed
Hi all,
I'm a beginner to this stuff, so please bear with me. I've gotten an SGS from Optus here in Australia, with Android 2.1. I want to upgrade to 2.2, so here I am on these forums
I confirmed that there was no 3-button combo mode on this SGS, and have successfully installed the fix as detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201 (a much more painful process than I thought, having to get a hold of a Windows computer (wasn't comfortable using Windows in a VM to flash my phone, couldn't figure out how to get the 3-button on my SGS with Hiemdall), get the USB drivers from the Android SDK, install Java, stab self with spoon, etc)
Now I've gotten the 3-button combo on the phone, I have read through the FAQ thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596) and the thread on the newest ROM(?) Doc BUJP8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703).
Bearing in mind that I have never done this before, what the heck do I do next? I tried putting the BUJP8 file (BUJP8_Doc_V9.zip, renamed to update.zip) on the phone storage in a folder titled 'sdcard', rebooted with ADB and got told that the phone couldn't extract the update.zip file. Is that correct? Do I need any other files to update my phone from 2.1 to 2.2?
Edit: The phone tells me "E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) Installation aborted."
I'm rather frustrated and grumpy I know that I'm missing something, so if you can please let me know what to do next, that would be excellent!
From the threads installation instructions. This rom works fine on Optus (I'm using it as well) with Dark Theme.
BTW, don't rename the Doc ROM to update.zip. You need to use the clockwork file as update.zip (see below)
Good luck
Installation Steps (Read this very carefully!)
01. Download the ROM (which you seem to already have downloaded) and put it on your internal sdcard.
02. Download clockworkmod recovery from here: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-galaxys.zip
You *need* Clockworkmod, this won’t work with stock recovery.
03. Rename the clockworkmod recovery file to “update.zip” and put it on your internal sdcard.
*SKIP THIS STEP AS YOU'RE COMING FROM AN OFFICIAL OPTUS ROM WITH NO TWEAKS*
04. If you had Voodoo installed prior to installing this ROM (Eclair or Froyo), make sure you still have the "disable lagfix" folder inside "/sdcard/Voodoo". If you’re coming from sztupy’s kernel, make sure you have disabled all Lagfixes from CWM.
05. Shutdown phone, wait for it to power down, then boot the phone into recovery mode (press volume up, keep it pressed, then press home button, keep it pressed, then press power button, keep it pressed until you see the Galaxy S screen. Release all three buttons when you see it).
06. Select “apply sdcard:update.zip” (use volume rocker to move up and down, and home button to select). Clockworkmod recovery will boot now (you may have to do apply update.zip twice for Clockworkmod to show up).
07. Once in Clockworkmod, select “install zip from sdcard” (use volume rocker to move up and down and the back button to select).
08. Select “choose zip from sdcard” and then select the ROM zip package. Then choose yes.
09. The update will start (will take some 5 minutes) and during the flashing you will see some strange big characters on the screen, don’t worry, that’s normal. After the process finishes, you will be dropped back into Clockworkmod recovery. From there, choose go back, and then reboot phone.
10. The first boot will take some time as the ROM will deodex
11. After the phone boots up, shutdown phone again, and then boot into recovery. The phone will boot DIRECTLY into Clockworkmod. From there, select "advanced ULK features", then "Lagfix options". You can select any of the lagfix schemes (description here). I recommend NO-RFS advanced EXT4 (others are known to have issues and may cause loss of data)

Woot! All working now The trick I hadn't worked out from all the instructions was to put the update.zip file in the root of the phone storage as seen by Windows, as it wasn't clear if I should have created a folder called 'sdcard' and putting update.zip there or not.
So once I worked out that putting update.zip in the root of the phone storage was the correct thing to do, I could finally get the recovery mode and have the phone successfully see 'update.zip'!
The phone has booted, and I've shut it down and gone back to clockwork, but there isn't a 'NO-RFS advanced EXT4' option for lagfix - the closest is 'NO-RFS advanced (a=e4)' - is this the EXT4 option, just badly rendered?

Hi,
I read everything i could find and I still can't get anything to work properly on the phone.
Is there even a milestone wiki so i know which version my phone is?
I got the open recovery thing to work once, but i can't get it to work again, it keeps saying I have a cache error. what do i do?
also, when I install app2card, it totally ruins my phone, is that app meant for my phone?
I tried to install app2sd, but it keeps saying busy box permission failed something.
I got my phone thru ebay, how can i check the region?
I just know I have an unbranded milestone.
I google all these questions and nothing helpful comes up.
Can somone please tell me how to get into recover again?
Do i need to reflash it?
I only got into it once and installed the zip.
but when i try to run the zip again, i get an error.
If you have nandroid file in your sdcard, you can copy and paste (anything that is important to you) to your PC.
1. Take out your sdcard and pluck it to your PC if your Milestone cannot switch ON
2. Format your sdcard via PC
3. Extract G.O.T OpenRecovery v2.00 or Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3 to the root of
your sdcard. (you'll see OpenRecovery folder and update.zip) Put the sdcard to your
Milestone and enter bootloader.(Press and hold volume up+camera key & power ON)
4. Open RSDlite and connect to your Milestone. Flash sbf to your Milestone, stock ROM
or 2.2.1 G.O.T beta version
Guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696845
5. Your Milestone will be switch ON after flashing sbf is done. Turn it OFF and enter
into recovery. Press X button and power ON. Once you see the triangle and '!',
press volume up and camera key.
6. You'll see Recovery 2e, all letters in blue, select update and the rest is your choice.
You can nandroid backup if your Milestone works as before and restore your previous nandroid that you copy to your PC.
Yes i did that the first time and it worked.
but how can i get into it again to make a backup?
thanks
You mean you still can't get into the recovery mode after formatting your sdcard? Even with the button combination:
PRESS AND HOLD 'X' AND POWER ON THE PHONE, LET GO ONLY AFTER YOU SEE THE TRIANGLE AND '!' MARK ???
I get to the triangle.
and it get to the recover menu. but when i press install the zip again.
an error message pops up.
do i need to redo step 3 and 4 everytime i want to go into recovery menu?
what open recovery u r using? GOT or androidiani?
if its GOT then try switchin to androidiani to check if the problem presist, vice versa.
report back here if there is any improvement.
one more question:
when u enter the bootloader menu (pressing the up dpad and power key) wat bootloader version it states there?
Thanks
I'll try it out tonight been a bit busy this week.
does Flash sbf do anything to my system?
for example, will i need to reflash my current rom after doing Flash sbf?
I know for the x10 mini pro, after doing update.zip i will need to reflash the rom.
is it the same for milestone?
I still can't get it to work.
here are my steps.
My phone is already rooted.
and I already flashed the Recovery-Only SBF when i installed the new rom. (do i need to redo this step? Maybe I'm using an outdated version?)
Can someone link me to the file if there is a better one, all the links are dead.
I am using this version: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78
I downloaded this:
http://groupoften.wordpress.com/2010/10/22/new-g-o-t-openrecovery-v2-01-launched/
I put the files on the root of my SD:
OpenRecovery
OpenRecovery-CFG (do i need this?)
update.zip
I press the Up dpad and power, I get the triangle thing.
I press the install.zip and still cache error?
E:can't open /ache/recovery/command
I don't get what the readme in the GOT is telling me to do.
it says:
create a folder in /OpenRecovery/recoveries ( for example "My_OR_MOD" i don't use space in folder name, to avoid problems)
does that mean I make a copy of the "openrecovery" folder and put it back inside the "openrecovery" folder? that means every thing will be duplicated? is this correct?
thanks
I would try the androidiani, but i can not find the english guide.
Edit:
just tried androidiani, and I'm still getting E:can't open /ache/recovery/command
Hi all,
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S I9000, but I don't have the stock Live Wallpapers.

"First place SamsungLWP.zip on the root of your SDcard (plug your phone into your computer and transfer the samsungLWP.zip to your phone's sdcard)
1. Go into rom manager and reboot into recovery
2. scroll down to install zip from sd card and press the power button
3. scroll down choose zip from SD card again hit power button
4. highlight signed SamsungLWPs.zip
5. Hit power button
6. Go back until you get to the reboot option I think back twice Reboot phone
7. go to personalize in setting options select htc wallpapers select live wallpapers and pick one to enjoy one"
I can't do the 2nd step, because there is no choice to select 'install zip from sd card'.
Can anybody help me?
I've got the stock rom (Froyo) and the phone is rooted.
Help would be appreciated

nobody?, I really need this now
did you fetch cwm?
The instructions assume you have CWM recovery (or a similar tool) on your phone.
In order to install programs in this manner you have to get CWM recovery. (search for rom manager in market and flash cwm (it's the first option from the top),
then again, I'm assuming you're getting this since you're still on 3e (the recovery most galaxy s phones come with). What I'd like you to do is get your phone into recovery mode and tell me what the very first line on the top says.
Hi,
The first line says: 'Android system recovery <3e>'
theres your problem you need recovery 2e
search for CWM in either update.zip or Flashable Odin version like cf-root.
if you get the update.zip version you need to put it on the root of your internal sd card, boot into recovery and select apply:update.zip you will need to do this twice... then CWM will appear and let you flash unsigned zip files.
if you use odin version just flash it in download mode and when you next boot you will have 2e recovery.
I just fixed it, I did put the 'data/app' folder onto my phone, and installed it, and it worked.
Thx everyone
There's your problem
You currently do not have the option to install (most) zip files from recovery. If you do want this option it is very possible and not too complicated(although this might void warranty) please read the forum guide on how to get CWM (clockworkmod)
I'm having a similar problem, but azzledazzle's suggestion left me a little baffled. I've got rom manager installed, Clockworkmod flashed and all that good stuff, but I'm still not able to install new roms. Now, I'm just about to try recovery mode, and...
Yes, 3e.
But how do I find a 2e thingie? Imagine I'm a gigantic moron who can put things in folders, but that's about it. I apologise for the pathetic help request, but if there's anyone...
Any help guys?thanks
Also having problems installing from sd
* edit*
Nvm
Listen..I have a HTC One V and when I go in recovery mode it says E:Can't open...Then when i press Vol Up + Power Button a list of commands pops up but there is nothing saying install zip from SD card..And now it's stuck at the htc one screen i can't start it up \_/
can it work for i9300 ?

Obviously you need to flash the latest custom recovery CWM. After that flashing zip will work.

Hi,
I have a S5830 which was running CWM - not sure exactly what version but worked perfectly, and had CFW CyanogenMod (I think 7.2.0 if I remember correctly)
I did something stupid, I had a few bugs which were annoying me so thought I'd go back to OFW, I downloaded a couple from Tsar3000 which I tried flashing through Odin but It would just go for ages and not seem to progress. I can get in download mode but I dont know toe process to take to now get me back on official fw with original recovery. I have downloaded the stock recovery image zip file from this website but when ever I try and flash anything Odin just seems to not progress. I can no longer boot into recovery mode.
What shall I do from here please?
Thanks
Seems weird, are you sure you did flash it correctly?
How to flash with odin.
Flashing the newest firmware:
1) Turn off your phone
2) Remove your SIM Card and SD Card
3) Extract previously downloaded firmware
4) Open ODIN 4.38 on your PC
5) Select from extracted archive: OPS-OPS, Boot-APBOOT, Phone-MODEM, PDA-CODE, CSC-CSC (leave EFS and One Package empty)
6) Connect your phone via USB into PC
7) When the screen is turned on hold POWER+VOLUME DOWN+HOME and wait until the phone enters the Download Mode
8) If ODIN detected and recognised your phone should light up the first square to the left side
9) Press "Start" button and wait, the process should take ~5 minutes
10) If all goes well your phone should reboot automatically
11) Square should change the color to blue and display "PASS" it means that flashing process was successful and we have the newest firmware
12) Disconnect your phone
13) Turn off your phone
14) Insert your SIM Card and SD Card again
15) Turn on your phone
16) Now you have the newest firmware!
If you did try, pushing CWM with Odin.
Flash Custom Recovery:
1) Push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace.img to your device using Android Debugging Brige push recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img /tmp/" command
2) Turn off your phone
3) Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
4) Login to your device over "adb shell"
5) Mount /system using "mount /dev/block/stl12 /system" command
6) Flash CWM recovery using "flash_image recoveryonly /tmp/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.3-galaxyace.img" command
7) Umount /system using "umount /system" command
8) Reboot your device using "reboot recovery" command to test your new CWM recovery
9) Reboot your device[/QUOTE]
Then flash Stock Recovery, from CWM. - Download it Here. Use the version appropriate to your Android version.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I tried everything you said except flashing the custom recovery with the method you said. The download link you provided for the recovery unfortunatly doesn't work So I downloaded from another link on the forum, but when I try and push the file ADB just doesnt find the device. Note: I can only get in download mode.
Do you know another way I can do this?
Thanks for your help
