Wifi with 802.1x EAP - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I need to connect to a wifi university, and his security is 802.1x EAP.
I make the connexion correcly but it doesn't connect.
I read that a lot of ROM's don't connect with wifi 802.1x...
I need a ROM that it can connect... Or some instruccions for connect with a ROM
My actual ROM is GingerDX v018
Thanks (and excuse my poor english and if are more post like this)

Hi man, I have the same issue, now I'm using gingerdx v019 with linuxdx kernel and doesn't work,i tried also with stock kernel and gingercrutz 7.5, I't very sad to see my friends with an old Nokia connect without any problem.

I'm having that problem too, with GingerDX v19.
I heard somewhere than froyobread is capable of connect to it, but I didn't tryed it.

Someone can confirm that??? tnx

Yes, Froyobread is compatable with eduroam
I tested many roms and i can't guess why some roms connecting with eduroam unseccesfully.
Eduroam works for example on froyobread, Minicm 2.0.7, stock rom
Doesn't works for example on GingerDX, GingerXperia, GingerCrutz

thanks a lot, I didn't try with stock kernel at my university because i bough the x8 in summer; I can't figure out why it cannot work on gingerbread based rom

I have the same problem. Now I installed Froyo Pro v01 and tommorow will test in my university.

i wait your brief , if workk I think il will pass to froyo... and It will not be easy beacuse with linuxdx xrecovery was removed and I think Il will need to go back to stock kernel again

Has anyone found a recent ROM that works with 802.1x EAP MSCHAPV2? GDX 21 doesn't.

I'm also looking for a Custom ROM that allows us to connect to these kind of networks. Now, I can't test them because, as we are preparing our exams, we don't have to go to the University, so I don't know if ROMs work with WPA Enterprise or not.
I have tested two Custom ROMs so far, and this is what I've found out:
GingerDX v021: it didn't connect to the 802.1x PEAP network.
FroyoPro v2.3: it connected twice. The second time was a bit hard to connect, but it did. After that, I couldn't connect to the Eduroam network anymore.
I'm going to test GingerCruzt v8.5 next week in order to check if newer versions of wpa_supplicant (0.6.10 in this ROM) work succesfully. This ROM is based on MiniCM7, so... let's see.
I'll post the results as soon as I test it.

Only froyo ROM has a chance to connect the dev should fix it but they don't care

FroyoPro works perfectly

Does it? As I said, I could connect to a WPA 802.1x twice with that rom, but that's all... I don't know if I did something wrong or something...
Anyway, I'm going to test GingerCruzt 8.5 right this afternoon after an exam. I'll post the results this evening.

OK, I've tested GingerCruzt v8.5 at my University and it seems to connect to a 802.1x network (PEAP and MSCHAPv2) correctly (I did it manually). I haven't been able to test it a lot, but it didn't seem to cause any trouble.
I think it is because it has 0.6.10 version of wpa_supplicant or something like that. I supose that this ROM and any other based on MiniCM7 (including this one) would work.
I will continue testing more and more ROMs. Furthermore, I will try to make GingerDX work with this kind of networks, trying to update wpa_supplicant.

wifi teethering now possible on X8?

Hi,
as in the topic, is it possible to use wifi teethering now on a X8? I understand that the bootloader hat to be unlocked, which seems is possible to do now.
Can anyone please point me into the right direction?
What must I do?
- unlock the bootloader?
- install a new kernel (or does that come with any ROM already?)
- which ROM do you consider me to get?
Thanks.
1.Unlock bootloader
2.Flash GingerDX with LinuxDX
3.Use Barnacle wifi tether
Is it still not possible to use the Android built in teethering method on the X8 with some on the latest Rom's then?

On FXP ROM after 028, it is possible to use it
If he use barnacle wifi, it's not necessary to do something else. Barnacle works with different way.
Otherwise he must do the steps that you propose.

Hi, thanks for the info.
it seems as if the developement of FXP Rom is stopped now, as Cyanogenmod released a port for the X8 device today? (which currently isn't downloadable at http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=shakira) ?
So should I wait until I can get CM, as it is supposed to work with that also, right?
I have already put another Rom on my X8 a few months ago, is there anything else I need to do now?
As the bootloader got unlocked.. Is there something I need to do to make CM7 and wifi-teethering to work then?
Sorry.. for my dumb question.. But the X8 is not my main phone.. I really only need it for wifi-teethering

Install barnacle...you do not need your bootloader unlocked with it
I do not advise you to install fxp rom and kernel because that are no stable

No, Killjoy is talking about the more-or-less discontinued CyanogenMod for the Xperia X8 (from the FreeXperia Team).
If you want to install it (not recommended, the ROM is highly buggy and feature incomplete), you need to unlock your boot loader to install the FXP kernel to make the ROM work ... as for installation ... simply search the forum, there are some installation guides around.
You could also give WiFi Tether a try ... I had it working on GingerDX v019 through v021 by using the 3.1 Beta version (though in my case it was the 3.1-pre105).
NOTE: If you're on Stock you at least need to root the ROM!
Barnacle work fine for me, other phones discover me normal... gdx 19-21

yeah i was talking about the rom B.Jay was talking about, i've used it for months and found no errors or bugs so far, it does great at what i want it for which is music, texting, general internet use and wifi tether. Barnacle is so slow on my X8, which is why i changed to this, make sure you turn on the "Auto Associate" in the settings then it'll refresh every 5 second util a device connects. if not, try PDANet and use wired tether.
i would greatly suggest unlocking bootloader + nAa kernel + cm7-2.1.6!!
try it!!

If you get the same problem on the stock rom, maybe it could be SE fault.
But probably, try these:
````Press Thanx please````
1. If you didn't full wipe after installing, do that. Maybe it could fix the bug
2. Did you try to tweak the build.prop or something related to wifi? Maybe that's the problem's root. Try to re-install the rom.
3. Try to install the other versions of froyobread like v023e OR get a stable rom like GingerDX latest release (i know froyobread is also good but still, as u have a bug).
4. Did you try to reboot with wifi on? Try that! these things work sometimes~ :good:
try to delete other wifi adreses
Yes, this could also do the trick Luck is what can solve your problem... :fingers-crossed: } fingers crossed! xXx
Delet all the wifi connections that have been saved.. wifi probs happens if you have 3 or more wifi connections remembered by phone.. do forget all the connections then try to search after a reboot..
xperia t lt30p tethering problem
My xperia t tethering doesn't work, even via usb or via wifi: I have connection with the other device (pc via usb or wifi, other cell via wifi) but no internet access. Internet connection works normally on the phone...
If I understood, he says we have to extract kernel from an original sony JB rom with the google sdk manager, then root the phone and push the kernel to the phone. Is this correct? Should it really help? Can anyone help us with a more detailed guide?
I did this initially to update to jb and then flashed the mentioned kernel, the dogsly one, which is afaik the original jb kernel. I still have the problems mentioned in tethering and wifi hotspot etc. There is definitely some sort of problem with jb and tethering for me.
I expect rolling back to ICS would sort it, however, that is a backward step I think. I'm surprised that more people aren't complaining of it.
In fact it does, I rolled back to ICS and tethering worked again. Then I tried updating OTA, but the issue was still there.
Yesterday I went root, and installed the JB rooted and deoxeded and tried again: unlike the stock JB, the pc showed 'access to internet' but in fact it never worked, and it was confirmed connecting my i9001 with cm10 (connection established but the wifi symbol stays grey).
I maybe will return to ICS, but will not be happy about that because I love the look of sony's JB: if I didn't care for that, I would stay with my i9001 or maybe buy an SGS3 instead of the XT.
Ok, here's the solution (for me):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179641
New update .492 solves that issue.
Try this. I'm not sure it will work, but it's worth a shot. Credits: BlackRabbit1703 for the idea.
Grab the sdio.ko, tiwlan_drv.ko, tiap_drv.ko files from system/lib/modules. Place them in any other ROM and try connecting to your school network. If it works then you have "ported the WiFi drivers".
