What do you guys think? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I have a DROID X2 right now and the development community is a lot slower than a lot of other phones due to the lack of an unlocked bootloader. I'm highly considering buying an OG DROID from someone on craigslist and ROMing, Theming, Overclocking, and undervolting the hell out of it. I used to have a samsung fascinate back in the day and i could do just about anything with that phone since the bootloader was totally unlocked. I just wonder if the OG Droid is worth buying and replacing the DROID X2 that I have now.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the $75 OBO?

I got my OG droid recently with dock and 2 chargers for less than $50.

DROID X2 is droid 2, or is something diffrent ?

Droid 2 is only single core.
X2 is dual core tegra.
Droid x is more close to droid 2 but with larger screen and no physical keyboard and 8mp cam instead of 5.
X2 is different beast all together.

You have a Droid X2 and want to get a Droid? I can't think why.
OK, we all like modding, theming, etc, but you have a little beast with Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 AP20H chipset and 512MB RAM. It also has an FM Radio which the Droid doesn't and also a screen with 540 x 960 pixels, 4.3 inches (~256 ppi pixel density)
It is a way better device than Droid. So I would keep it and wait for development to start. I believe the bootloader will be unlocked just like Atrix' did.
And unfortunately I can't use it here in Greece as we only use GSM Networks and not CDMA's or I would buy it from you!

I absolutely love my OG Droid, but over the last 6 months it's started to get pretty frustrating. It is a really fun device and there are lots of great ROMs for it, but the internal memory is too small and it is starting to be way too slow, even overclocked. I've been waiting for what seems like forever for a phone that I've deemed worthy of replacing it, and the Galaxy Nexus should be it, if VZW will ever decide to release it.

Two Droid 3 Questions!

First off, I am going with the assumption that the Droid 3 is snappy and fast? It better be, haha its dual-core and 1Ghz.
Anyway, my first question is, how does it match up to Tegra 2 and the Dual Core Snapdragon processors?
I don't need an inconsistent benchmark, but how fast is the new TI OMAP dual core compared to the its Snapdragon and Tegra2 counterparts?
---
Also, my friend has a Droid 2, and its been a couple months since he's owned it, but the sliding mechanism just is more stiff now. It seems like it slides but it takes a good amount of effort. It's not that it's hard to slide the keyboard, but there's some significant resistance.
How good is the sliding mechanism on the Droid 3? I haven't used one yet, but I may go to the mall to see how it is
I can't really say if is faster then the two I want to say it it just because it seems faster then the atrix and droid x 2 running on the tegra. The snapdragon im not sure about. Their dosent seem to be any lag with the droid 3 as I've heard with the atrix and drois x2. As to slider I've never owned one before but if feels good to me. You do have to push it open all the way with a little force but I think that better then being loose. Im happy with it.

should i buy an droid 3 instead of an atrix?

i was thinking to buy an atrix , but found droid 3 (xt 860) . should i buy it instead of atrix? the price is just a little higher
please, can someone help? i have to decide in about one hour =/
...well, there's a lot more development with the Atrix over the XT860, that's for sure.
Sent from my XT860 using xda premium
i would stick it out for the galaxy nexus at this point, but thats just my personal opinion. i love my droid 3 (xt862) but yes the dev for xt860 is just showing due to jsut receiving an sbf.
I never had the atrix but I can tell you that the stock droid 3 is hella lagy for a dual core. Especially if you have animations on; actions take a couple of seconds to respond. Hope this helps
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
thanks for all the feedback, i was loving the design but now i have my doubts if i should get an droid 3.
what is an sbf that you mentioned?
sbf is a basic recovery method back to OG stock. I will say taht the D3 is a hell of a machine. My benchmark scores are very high, even compared to other new devices. Bionic and Razr are very similar to the D3. I wouldnt say that it drags stock. Ive had an atrix, and it didnt score as high on my list as id hope, but you can unlock the bootloader on atrix and do some things you cant with the d3. tough decision, but i already told you what i'd do. what country are you going to use this device in?
im from brazil. here the price diference is huge, from atrix to droid 3, its about 80 dolars, from atrix to sgs2, its aboult 300 dolars.
i had a vibrant, that is gone for good. i spent easily more than 500 dolars fixing it lol (3 broken screens and some others stuffs)
So i dont want to spend too mutch on a new phone... from what i have seen, droid 3 seens to be the more atractive, except by the 512 mb ram. in fact i wanted a motorola phone, but it seens that the choices are limited and problematic. atrix is on market for a long time, and on my country it even doesnt have the oficial 2.3 yet. xt860 have gb, a better camera, the cool keyboard, but the 512 mb ram concerns me. what im looknig too, is for company suport, i want to buy an device that i know at least will have an oficial ICS.
After all, i really dont want an samsung anymore, passed a lot of time with it, my vibrant doesnt even have an oficial gb rom. LG is all about complain, so i think my choices are limited to motorola.
Can you give me a hand?
i understand what you mean. the 512 in the d3 is sufficient. its running faster than my xoom or handful of other devices. i wish i could tell you for sure what to buy. like i said, personally, i will be moving to the galaxy nexus very soon (but im not a GSM user either
)
Yes. I previously owned the Atrix, there were so much problem with it after a few month that I nearly threw it against a wall from all the frustration caused.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
so, from this choices, should i move to a d3?
I haven't tried the other phones but I have the Verizon D3 and I put a custom ROM on here and it is nice. The keyboard is very nice to use and it is very possible to make it run as well as the newer Motorola phones such as the RAZR with a mild overclock.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
I will say I absolutely love my D3 and am sad it doesn't get more love. Mine has been snappy since even before installing custom roms... plus it's keyboard is exceptional (the main selling point for me, I can't have a phone without a KB!)
I'm quite pleased with my D3.

[Q] I need an advice... Motorola Droid Razr or Samsung Galaxy S2?

Hy, i want to trade or sal my LG Optimus 2X and i don't know what to get. I wand a Motorola Droid Rarz or a Samsung Galaxy S2 (i don't like it but i can trade my phone with one, for Razr i should wati to sell it...). I don't know what to choose,
P.S: Any phone i get i will flash CM9
If you can really just 'trade' it, you'd definitely be better going for the S2. As far as specs go, the RAZR isn't really that good, and S2 is simply just the best android available right now.
If you want to sell the 2x for a new phone, I'd recommend to just wait for a while to get the newer gen phones. It isn't really worth the hassle to sell the 2x to get last year's phone. There are better phones coming, such as the HTC One X, One S, which are gonna be released not so long from now. They have next gen CPUs, so it's worth the upgrade. If you want to wait longer, there's the S3 with rumored awesome specs, but it isn't coming until May/June.
I would have got Razr if i had option...Everytime only specs doesn't matters, if looks are killer, specs don't matter anymore- atleast for me
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA
Between those two I would get the GSII
Since I don't need a quad-core device, I would definitely go for the GSII
+1 for GSII. But why do you want to trade your O2X and buy a very similar (regarding the specs) device?
As silentmelodies said, next gen devices are coming... Just be patient.
because i need i 4.3 or bigger display. The next gen price will make all of us dizzy ). This is in Romania. I usually keep a phone at least 3-4 months, i have the LG O2X for 7 months
SGS2, FTW!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
im not a fan of samsungs amoled but between those two, i would also go for the sgsII, huge dev support, great specs..
+1 for asking why you want to sell your o2x? official ics is near and ips display is waaaaaaay above amoled if it comes to true colors.

Oh... So buy now a GSII and wait until the next gen devices arrival. By the end of the summer you will be about to sell your 4-5month old GSII for a new one.
The S2 has the better developer support, so yeah, I think that's another winning factor

Yeahh but on optimus, CM is.more stable i guess- I tried Gs1 and it was bad :banghead:

Personally I'd go with the Sony Xperia S. Looks good, a reasonable size and some nice features.
Wouldn't change my IPS screen on the O2X for a SAMOLED Plus, it's just too colourful and somehow splashy for my taste. Though it is a bit bigger on SGSII.
O2X via TT2
I'm voting for the underdog. The Droid RAZR. As long as root can be obtained (which I checked and we can), I should be happy.
In my country, the SII is being common sight. So I want me a unique Kevlar @ssed phone.
build quality on the razor is a lot better than gs2, though i did sell the razor, and went back to using my bad ass 2x (':
Look i never own s2 but i owned 4 of 5 galaxy s 1. Series.
I got droid RAZR over this weekend.
Own droid 1.
I can tell you this galaxy s 2 isnt any better then RAZR simple fact the s2 launcher blogs up or hipcus.
The minute you play 25 mins on game gta 3 or watch movie it freeze until the app right back.
just like on galaxy s 1 i had which was fascinate and vibrant that why i hack it.
Droid RAZR if you download over 50mb it does fizzled for a sec but it download in less 5 mins. Something the s2 take about 7 to 10 min.
If you go based on specs DROID RAZR is 540x960 resolution over 480x800 galaxy s2.
DROID RAZR is 16 gb internal storage over galaxy s2 that have 2 gb or 2.20 gb internal storage found in epic touch or galaxy s 2 aka Hercules in united states. The galaxy s2 in Europe. Did it smart with 16/32 gb internal storage instead of being cheap like us carriers did to save money.
Both have 1gb of ram.
both have 8 megapixes
Both have 1080 p video recording and playback.
DROID RAZR have led notifications
Galaxy s2 dont.
Galaxy s2 have easy to hack.
But DROID razr isnt friendly but where their a will their way go to droid life or droidforums for info.
DROID razr is water repellent check YouTube or try it on your own.
galaxy s 2 isn't
Galaxy s2 is bigger 4.5 over 4.3
Both have super amoled plus.
DROID RAZR have better built quality.
galaxy s line is to plastic like iphone 3g and 3gs.
Galaxy s2 have 2 megapixes on front face camera better than DROID razr 1.3 megapixes.
however the DROID RAZR have 720 p video recording ffc and s2 dont.
DROID RAZR have ppi of 256 and galaxy s2 have 216 ppi.
Droid razr have similar if not the same processer as gnex with omap 4 1.2ghz dual core and. Usa have snapdragon which suck. Only sprint have s2 have Exynos 4210 like Europe instead of slow in my opinion snapdragon s3 processor. Remember htc cough their issue is due to low mah power they put on their phones and snapdragon processors. So if im you guy avoid buying snapdragon device their horrible.
Im not bias stating the facts and i love fact that DROID RAZR lock backdoor.
Thank me if you like this.
Fyi i had to many htc to know if snapdragon isn't 2 reason of why htc phone dont last long.

Possible replacement for Droid X2

So guys I'm tired of this failure of a phone so I thought it was about time to try something better. The Verizon reps have only offered me the Dinc2 thus far until I requested about the Droid 3 which they agreed to.
All I want to know is your opinion on the device. Mainly about the roms n tweaks you have. Coming from the Droid X2 we only have about two roms, and ICS would be nice to try out, how functional is it? And how is your satisfaction with this phone before and after root?
The locked boot loader definitely has hindered it but Hash has done amazing. This is a solid phone.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
My bigger complain is that there is only 512mb of ram, and that isn't really enough.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk 2
I never have any RAM issues but I don't use the bloated stock ROM. Of course ICS runs beautifully.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
The Droid X2 has only 512mb of ram and a locked bootloader as well. Except the daul-core uses 100mb so only a total of 404 is available, is that the same with the omap processor? And X2 only has gotten as far as unofficial buggy cm7. /:
Hows the screen? Is a 4' qHD less pixely than my 4.3'?
Get Dinc 2 if you don't need physical keyboard.
It is going to get ICS officially and has 756MB of RAM.
Issue with D3 is that ICS is not officially confirmed, which means all the current bugs with ICS roms MAY not be resolved due to kernel issues.
DInc2 was actually enjoyable to use, D3 is just OK.
IMHO, dual core is over hyped.
Well I'm thinking in the long run IF D3 gets ics officially then the daul core will be a significantly better than single core Dinc. I love the more ram but I want the security of having a daul-core.
Try using both for a while at Verizon.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
Dual core vs 1 gig of ram... both nice to have but both are still a gimmick... i havent seen many apps that will chew up my ~400 megs (think its cloer to 230 with the system up) and with android reclaiming ram its never an issue, same with dual core, no software needs it (name something that uses it), and if it "does" try locking a core with setcpu or something and run it. Anything I've found runs the same w/1 1ghz core vs 2 1ghz cores. Maybe there isnt any software out there demaninding enough to make dual core useful? I personally would ask about htc or samsung phones trying to avoid moto
The physical keyboard is nice. And if you load a custom ROM of course it runs fine. The only reason I kill apps is because of battery.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
The guy basically just gave me an upgrade to any phone using a loophole that apparently gets me unlimited 4g. I'm looking at the Razr because of its $100 price unlike the Rezound (my favorite) which is $200.
I think the only difference is 4G between us and the RAZR. I mean the RAM and CPU speeds are different a bit but oh well.
Sent from my XT862 using XDA
I'd say the keyboard is the deciding factor not whether it has dual core or 768MB ram
I agree with WP. If you bought the Droid 3 for any reason other then the keyboard, you bought the wrong phone.

I am now getting the Rexound.
Thank you for all your help.

Atrix HD Revealed

http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/04/motorola-atrix-hd/?m=false
Havent seen a post either here or the atrix 2 forum about it, so cheers!
No fingerprint reader?
Looks like shiit and has shiit specs to begin with. It has lower battery capacity than the original atrix which is unacceptable.
Only .5 Ghz (no extra core) more then original stuff plus little more pixels and no finger print reader. i only have two words for Motorola "Middle Finger" cos they probibally wont even unlock the boot loader hack they are trying to block the boot loader on existing phones.
Meh.. same old tricks again.

Doesn't look like the battery can be removed. Minor CPU bump, same amount of ram... only noticeable improvement here is the screen.
Tegra?
I thought that was a hardware key down there, too bad it was just a carrier wart.

I'm sorry. It just doesn't scream "upgrade".
Atrix is a line of webtop supporting devices, processor/ram specs should be top priority and it already seems outdated with S3 having quad core and 2gb ram.
I can live with 2 powerful cores, but the phone is just screaming for a ram upgrade.
As a big fan of the original Atrix, I can't be any more disappointed with the 2 sequels.
AtrixHd fails for me for no fingerprint unlock button, only 1GB of RAM, low battery that appears non-removable (if you want to "look" like the RAZR Maxx then use their freakin battery), locked bootloader, and it only has HALF the internal storage as our phone.
Atrix HD has nothing that I want. Even the "updated screen" is just gonna kill the battery.
It's a shame that the OG Atrix>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Atrix HD>Atrix2...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I'm struggling to decide whether this new Atrix HD is simply unimpressive or really unimpressive.
The dual-core thing isn't necessarily too much of a problem - hopefully it is Qualcomm Krait-based in which case, performance would be on a par with a quad-core A9. The smaller battery (in comparison to the original Atrix) doesn't exactly sound like a great idea, especially as the phone has a large HD display and is packing LTE...
I thought I had read somewhere recently that Motorola wasn't going to abandon fingerprint-scanners in high-end phones? Doesn't appear to be the case at present.
pre installed with ICS? I guess it will take more than 1 year to upgrade to Jelly Bean. Lol..

This is in my opinion another downgrade from the Atrix 4G, just like the Atrix 2!

Apparently according to Briefmobile, Motorola uses model numbers in the 900's for "high end" phones. This puts all the Atrix models in the "medium" bracket.

I don't see any logical reason to upgrade to this piece of **** from my original atrix.
I almost forgot to add that the at&t logo looks like sheep poo.
So its compatible with the lapdock 100, so i would be interested to know if its compatible with the 500 with the ethernet, video out and sd card reader. That would at least give it something over the original atrix.
The atrix line is basically there for people who uses at&t and want webtop.
Yes, if you don't live in the US. You better avoid Motorola. Lol..
Internal 8gb?
So my Atrix 4G has 16gb internal & this has 8Gb not much of an upgrade really, might be better camera, but now looks like I will be leaving Motorola??

It is weird how they are moving backwards with the Atrix line. I'd love to have the 1.5ghz dual core and I'm a sucker for big screens. Why can't they make a phone with our Atrix specs...just updated hardware (faster CPU, more ram, screen..)
