Hello,
About a week or so ago I updated to the official Mango release from Beta Mango and it seems now that my Data is pretty messed up. It seems to stop communicating with any apps that require data to be updated, until either I either restart or do the airport more on/off.
I noticed the connection deteriorates after a while, yet the reception shows 5 bars on the 3G network.
I should also add the network if not recognized by the HTC Wizard, but this was the case since day one (Pre-NoDo) and was not a problem, infact everything was fine when I had the candidate release of Mango. I have manually configured the settings.
The update process was this:
- Backup
- Mango Official
- Mango Beta Cleanup
- Update (Misc, not sure)
- HTC Update
This really has handcuffed me as I use data more then the phone itself.
Now some details:
I am in Toronto, on the Mobilicty Network using HTC HD7 T-Mobile (AWS Network)
OS Version: 7.10.7720.68
FW Version: 2250.21.40503.531
Hardware Version: 0002
Radio SW Version: 5.69.09.29a_22.50.50.21U
Radio HW Version: A.12.0.D4
Bootloader Version: 4.5.2250.0(129966)
Chip SOC Version: 2.2.5.0
I really need help with this as I am stuck in the water without proper data and will be forced to leave Mango :'(
Help will be appreciated!
This might not be what you wanted to hear, but it sounds like a reset is in order.

holy crap, i thought i was the only one. im having the same issue for the last 2-3 weeks, htc hd 7 with shinning and also with mobilicity. I contacted mobilicity and doesnt seem to be an issue on their end. so hopefully someone has a solution.
have you tried...
...checking your settings? (i.e. making sure data isn't disabled)
...Resetting?
...a different Radio? (link in my signature)
...a different OS? (link in my signature)
...an OS with HTC Connection Setup? (all Europe ROMs have)

Thanks for the input and pretty interesting. At least this confirms that it is an OS issue, to a degree. No it's not an issue on their end, and they won't support this either since it's a hardware issue. They have reception problems here and there, but otherwise that is it.

sh4d0w86, thanks for the response.
Settings: Data is enabled, available, and live (3G). I have also manually configured the APN settings for my specific carrier which are easily available. I'm sure mohammadwaqas can verify to that.
Resetting: I have soft-rest the phone, in a sense where I power off, remove battery, sim card, wait for a few minutes and swapped everything back in. Did not do a hard reset, as wiping everything out and starting over again, no.
HTC Connection Setup: Yes, the TMOUS OS does have the Connection Setup enabled at startup now, and I believe this was also available as an stand-alone app since day one. Trouble is that my carrier (Mobilicity) is not recognized (also since day one), so the automated settings do not go through with the "Connection Setup".
Different Radio/OS I was thinking this may be something I may have to do, going through the link in your signature, it seems pretty straightforward but I have a question: I noticed when looking at the radio link the "Model" is always HTC HD7 T9292 except for TMOUS, which is the HD7 I am using. Would it be possible to use the other OS/Radios, considering I am using a AWS band phone? .. I'm thinking all the other OS's are GSM band HD7s and that may interfere with the phone I have? Or am I assuming incorrectly here?

well, if you don't want to hard reset...
i guess the only option would be to try different Radios.
in order to flash any Radios not specific to your device, you'll need XSPL.
tutorial in my signature. it tells you how to XSPL and how to flash Radios.
if you don't want to XSPL, you'll only me able to flash TMOUS Radios.
you'll need to use SPL_Signed.nbh to do this.
that will replace Radio and OSPL, but leave OS untouched.
actually, the Model's aren't all HTC HD7 T9292. there is also...
T9295 (Bell, AT&T) and T9296 (Telstra).
Thanks for the response. Looks like I may have to figure all that out.
I may have missed your answer, but is it possible to use radios that belong to GSM telcos, on this TMobile HD7, which is AWS?

not sure what telco is, but...
as long as device is XSPL'd any Schubert Radio can be flashed onto your TMOUS HD7.
other [insert device] Radios cannot be flash to Schubert, will result in a brick.
Hmm sorry to hear about that, I've not seen this issue myself but if it started happening after the HTC driver update package (shortly after Mango) then that could be the culprit. HTC are due to release another driver update for all HTC devices pretty soon (apparently) with WiFi hotspot etc so perhaps there'll be a new radio that will fix the issue. I wouldn't go as far as Hard Resetting just yet.

Are there two physical radios in the Tilt/TyTN II? I ask because I'm experiencing a strange problem that nobody else seems to have seen before. That, or nobody noticed my posts here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335096
The problem is that phone/data work fine when the phone is in non-3G mode. (In the Comm Manager, available in most recent ROMs, I have disabled the 3G mode, so I'm using only GSM here in the US).
In 3G mode, I'll get a 3G icon (used to get an H, months ago), but will be unable to place/receive calls, and no data connections will be established -- they'll all time out or say that "the answering modem has disconnected."
So, back to my question: is it possible that my radio is partly damaged? Can that happen? I'm not sure how else to explain the utter lack of 3G on my phone.
can't have a damaged radio, you could have the wrong radio for the device and/or version of windows mobile. 3g only works if in 3g area, have it enabled and turned on through comm manager.also make sure you're network settings are correct and make sure phone is set to auto in networks tab in phone settings, not set to gsm/cdma
PS, the search tool/wiki are you're friends since this has been covered too many times

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I've tried everything I can think of, and everything suggested. Nearly ever ROM I've seen, with nearly every radio; every combination of wap.cingular, isp.cingular, etc. The AT&T store thinks the phone is defective b/c they can't figure it out, either. In response to your comments: tried every version of windows mobile and most of the radios available; I'm very much in a HSDPA 3G area (used to get 5 bars "H" all the time); 3G is enabled; network settings are correct; phone is set to auto/auto.
Any other ideas, anyone? I appreciate it!
I've been have the same exact problem. I posted about it about a month and a half ago, but got nothing.
Everything worked perfectly until one day, out of nowhere, 3G stopped working for me. I've also tried multiple radios and ROMs and to no avail. The weird thing is that when it stopped working, nothing had been changed in months.
I know that I'm definitely in a 3G coverage area because I used to get 3G service all the time.
If I turn 3G on, it'll work in an edge only area, but as soon as it switches over to WCDMA, the problems occur.
This is super aggravating.

Well, the good part is, you're not alone. I found another forum online (can't remember where, I'm at work now and I found it last night) were several people were having the exact same problem -- in various countries around the world, including the US.
They had decent luck flashing the stock HTC ROM and then the French radio mentioned on the big XDA radio post (search google for "kaiser radio" and you should see it). However, I did the same and still have the 3G problem.
did you try using a shipped att rom and see if you still have this problem? if the problem goes away, then maybe its just a rom/radio mismatch problem. if it doesnt, then its more likely a hardware failure.
I'm in france, and since few days, i've the same problem, and i haven't change the radio. the phone is going for repair.

As mentioned in this thread, some shipments of the TyTN II have faulty hardware with broken 3G support.
No patch or driver update can fix this because it is a hardware problem. I experienced exactly the same issue with my first TyTN II and finally replaced it with a new device which works flawlessly out of the box.
I believe you should also better get your device replaced if you ever want to use 3G.

Hi guys (and girls),
I'm going slightly mad trying to figure out a stable setup for my O2X. I have been switching between the latest CM7 nightlies, and MoDaCo FR19. In general, CM7 gives me quite frequent black screens, and FR19 seems quite stable. However, there is one issue that is present in both ROMs.
I am unable to get a stable mobile data connection when I switch from WiFi. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. To get it to work again, it sometimes works to switch to 2G only (and possibly back again). I have tried several different radios recently: 218, 606, and 622, all with the appropriate RIL. The mobile data connection for 218 drops in and out at random without any clear pattern. For the other two radios switching on or off 2G only seems to achieve stable connection. However, it does not actually seem to affect whether I get a 3G or 2G signal. The display can say H or G, even when 2G only is checked. Bluetooth did not work correctly with 606.
To top everything off, the GPS does not seem to behave consistently for a all the different radio versions.
I guess that people have different experience with different radios, so which radio are the guys in Norway using? Do I really have to slog through every released radio and spend the day checking each one of them? Can I expect to find a radio/from combination that blacks to give me a stable GPS and mobile data connectivity, as well as good WiFi?
I know this has been discussed numerous times before, but people never seem to reach any conclusions. I'm just looking for advice on how to proceed to fix my problem.
I'm on cm7 .77 and i honestly havent had a blackscreen since i flashed it (yesterday morning) + battery is good now. For me this is the most stable nightly so ill stick with it for 2 weeks on my holiday )
Edit: bb .502 ril 218(i think) dont have any problems with network switching btw

You probably have to, yes. This sounds more like a problem with the specific coverage in your area and how the phone interacts with the cell-towers than an actual problem with the phone. You may be in an area with weak signals from several stations, you may be in an area suffering from sudden bursts of noise, there could be a lot of reasons for why this is happening.
First thing I'd try is to upgrade to the latest official firmware (10C - 0622 for Norway), just to have a baseline for comparison. In theory this firwmare (and baseband) has recently been validated by the norwegian carriers, and should have the best chance of success.
Then you should probably do a manual scan (in phone settings) for networks, and pick one manually.
Also try using the INFO menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and see if choosing a specific protocol helps.
If you're still unable to maintain a stable connection, I'd say that'd be grounds for returning the phone for a replacement.
Weak advice, I know, sometimes there just aren't any quick solutions.

Sort of. In this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041 you'll find complete ROMs of the previous versions. Install one of those with SmartFlash, then run the LG Mobile Update tool to get the latest.

Okay, I see, downloading now. So it is good enough to use one of the smartflash files, I don't have to use nvflash?

No, you don't have to use NVFlash. The advantage of using the smartflash method is that you get a completely "factory fresh" phone, with all the stock content present (movies, music, pre-installed apps) and you're sure to get a matching baseband and ROM.
Note that you have to flash both files, both the baseband and the ROM. The LG update tool won't update if you have a "new" baseband on an old ROM.
::Trym
So the firmwares from that post do not include the baseband? Anyway, I'm currently running baseband 405, so I guess this is sufficient to get the new update. And the new update will then overwrite everything to the latest official version, both ROM and baseband, correct?

Yes, it does. Each firmware pack comes with TWO files, the baseband and the ROM. To make sure you avoid any trouble, just flash them both, though, as you say, you can probably stay on the one you have, as yes, the LG Mobile Update tool will overwrite both the baseband and the ROM with the new versions.

Flashing of old firmware, with subsequent upgrade to latest release for Norway is complete.
I got version V10c, with baseband 1035.21_20110622, kernel 2.6.32.9. My mobile data seems to be enabled as soon as I get mobile coverage (which admittedly is poor right where I live). Even though it pains me, I guess I should leave it as stock for a day or so to see how it behaves.
I guess rooting it shouldn't affect performance in any way?
My initial experience is that it is much more snappy than the stock firmware that the phone came with, but time will show

Not to my knowledge, but I'd still advise you to wait a few days while sorting out the connection issue. Not that I think rooting it would affect that one way or another, but if you can't get it work as it is, you can return the phone in the state it is now, factory fresh.

It certainly is. It also *stays* snappy over time, which can't be said for the 10a/b versions.

The first test drive with the new firmware has been completed. On the way out it switched to mobile data flawlessly, but a longer drive it started falling out and reappearing for only short periods. When we stopped at the destination seemed to stabilise with a 3G connection again.
For the return trip I selected use only 2G network. The network connection remained stable for the entire journey.
I will have to test more, but the conclusion seems to be that it has trouble switching between the 2G and 3G networks when moving. I will try the same trip with a Telenor SIM card, and with different combinations of enabling 2G and 3G modes.
By the way, what is the difference between forcing 2G in the regular settings menu and in the special information menu?

The 2G only setting in the phone menu equals the "GSM only" setting in the INFO-menu. I'm far from an expert in these matters, this thread has an overview: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=675136& of what the different modes do.
::Trym
More testing seems to indicate that as long as i leave "use 2G only" check, my mobile data connection seems to be pretty stable. It even switches between 2G and 3G, although apparently a bit more conservatively.
I guess I get to keep my phone anyway
Now for some rooting...
Just an update on the results from my testing. The second time I went out my mobile connection never appeared. This was with only 2G checked in the settings menu. In the Info menu, this corresponded to GSM only.
I then changed it to GSM auto (PRL), and then I got my intermittent mobile data again. I then change it to WCDMA preferred, and my data connection seems to be stable for now. This apparently requires much more testing...
F another chapter in the connectivity saga. Having WCDMA preferred selected in the Info menu, things mostly work, although the data connection drops sometimes.
Another problem I'm noticing with the stock ROM is that it usually is unable to reconnect to my home WiFi network when it comes within range. I have the money was selected to reconnect. Sometimes I even find it disabled in the list.
After the most recent stock update that added Sense 3 I started having intermittent radio problems. I had always been on stock and never fiddled with the firmware, radio, anything like that. The radio would randomly disconnect from the network and stay disconnected for a while, or I could get it back faster if I rebooted the phone or cycled flight mode. Using data often acted as a catalyst for the problem and I could reduce occurrences by using wifi when I'm at home. Total annoyance. I decided to try fixing it myself and I've found a lot of useful information here.
I first installed a couple different ROMs and found that after booting, there was no signal, so it was probably the radio. I had HBOOT 2.0 so I had to downgrade, use Revolutionary to get S-OFF, then start working with different radio versions. I haven't had any luck since.
Current setup:
Bought unbranded and unlocked from the UK. 900/1700/2100 model
Revolutionary HBOOT-6.13.1002
Baseband: 20.4802.30.0882U_3882.10.08.28_M
ROM: Virtuous Quattro RC2 (Android 4.0.2)
Network: 3 Sweden (UMTS 900/1200 network)
I've also had the same problem running Cyanogen 7.1 and Android Revolution HD 2.1.3. I had high hopes for ARHD since it said it specifically was designed for the radio I've flashed. I actually even went through and tried every single radio release from Gingerbread for the IncS. Same problem on all.
Strictly speaking it's not actually a no-signal problem, it's a very weak/malfunctioning signal problem. When I do a network scan I usually only see two of the three GSM networks here and most if not all 3G networks are missing. The few times my home network has actually shown up in the network scan list, I can't register on it. I get the "Temporarily unable to register on this network. Try again later." message.
I hope I've done enough searching and effort on my own here before posting. Needless to say I'll be grateful for any help I can get here. After many hours of reading, flashing, rebooting, reflashing, rinse and repeat, I'm looking for an end to this!

Hey guys hav u ever experienced issue like dis:
Mobile internet connection drop and unable to got online or using web browser etc.
It cannot be fixed w/ rebooting.
Now it seems i can use disable/reenable 3G/3G switch and turn on/off 3g connection several time to make this work.
But it is still annoying
Any idea how to fix it?
Im using the latest firmware, radio, stuff: 11.11.1
btw the gmail search doesnt work either after 8107 update which said by MSFT wud fix this issue, any1 hav the same issue?
I can't find the switch 2g/3g switch!? lol
Don't have any other issues though!
Omnia 7 - originally on T mobile but now using unbranded ROM on Three.
Same problem here. The gmail search on server bug is really annoying!
I'm having the same problem as of today, my mobile data connection has dropped. I've tried rebooting, switching to airplane mode, re-enabling/disabling 3G/E multiple times. But the issue remains.

Same problem here too. I was afraid it was my device..now i see almost all omnia 7's got this problem. No fix from samsung. Nice.
I've had issues with this for months. In fact since upgrading to Mango.
It's not hardware as I now have a warranty replacement and this one has the problem too. My sister also had hers replaced under warranty for the same issue and the issue remains for hers too.
I started a MS Answers thread months back but MS have ignored it... may as well add your voices though. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-wppics/data-connection-problem-since-mango-update/1544a63f-7bf0-43fa-837c-7e89f10b86ab

Can anyone confirm/unconfirm if this works? Getting really sick of this now. Restarting was fixing it, but now nothing. I'll add my views to your thread.
Had the data issue for months, it was so bad i stooped using the device.
Then as in old windows mobile i decided to flash another rom witch included another radio from another carrier, in this case a french one, well it did work ,then i could use the phone everywhere.
I cant tell you the rom version at the moment because i got a test roam loaded, but i can certainly find out later.
edit..
The rom was Mango fro sfr france.
you mean that flashing another rom fixed ur problem?
Can u post a link to the rom itself, please?

Yup, it has fix it.
I got it from HERE
Before that i could not do anything over 2/3g.
Now it works just fine.
One thing i remember, the device will boot in French, but you can change to English after in the control panel.
Before doing anything make a Device backup!
edit...
my radio hardware version is 0.0.0.800
radio software version 2424.11.9.1
Currently using the above radio with a custom rom v 24.24.11.9.4 and no problems with data.

can confirm that it doesn't work - sadly :-( - It has the effect of setting the switch in Network profile app (something you only get in unbranded ROMs by default..
BTW there is a thread on this in the Omnia 7 general forum
I had the same issue also but after using Healthcliffs fix 3g.xap my problem went away.

Yeah, my radio Hardware and Software version are exactly the same as yours..but i have problems, i guess i'll try flashing the french rom.. There aren't any other problems with it, right?
I got a custom rom that does not have this problems, will try to upload tomorow.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I have an original Nexus One ordered from Google locked to t-mobile. When we moved to europe we found the data didn't work, because the radio didn't handle those frequencies.
So now I've flashed it with the evervolv ics and I find the radio is now doing data. So I'm guessing the radio was software limited?
(apologies if this is a known thing - I am pretty pleased with life right now and wanted to share!)

Did you flash the radio or just the rom? Could it have been you didn't initially have the proper APN settings applied ?
Good call
You're right - just the ROM.
When we signed up with (O2? I don't remember now) they theoretically set everything. When it didn't work I may have gone in and tried to re-set things, but it's possible I messed something up - I'm not really savvy on that side of things.
