[Q] Converting .jar file

I found some pretty cool looking games for android that aren't on the market. They're in a .jar format. I couldn't find much through google on getting them to an .apk file so I can fun them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Are you sure they are meant for android? When I had a Motorola SLVR or my LG flip-phone the game files were jar files. They ran in a Java environment.
I know android uses jar files, but I thought they were more like setting or system files.
But I have never written an android app. Maybe you need to compile them with the sdk.

Might just have something to do with uploading/downloading. Just rename the app to end in .apk instead of .jar and try it. Apk is actually just a form of a .jar anyways. Worst case is it wont install.

The games are over at 3androidapps.
Here are teh instructions and it's the last part that's tripping me up (I've bolded it)...
Download and install the Google Android SDK program and the Android USB drivers.
You need to modify your Android's settings to allow the installation of applications from other sources. Under "Settings," select "Application Settings" and then enable "Unknown Sources." Also under "Settings," select "SD Card" and "Phone Storage," and finally enable "Disable Use for USB Storage"
This last step is easy. Open Command Prompt and type the following: adb install <apk file>
So do I just put this on the root of my SD card? And does <apk file> change it from a .jar file?

Ice Cream Sandwich Decompiling and Modding Guide (Windows)

Before following this guide, install the Java development kit (JDK)
The first thing that you want to do is install the Android Development Kit. This allows you to use adb (android debug bridge) and also other tools to mod images and apks. After installimg, add the platform-tools folder inside the android sdk folder (make it if not there) to your path (Google how to add a folder to path on windows).
Android Development Kit/SDK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
I have the sdk in c:/android-sdk/ and that is how it will be referenced to in this tutorial.
Now you should get the apktool.jar and the windows files for the latest version and put it in platform-tools in the sdk folder (make sure to extract the windows files and not just put the archive).
Apktool: http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
Now open up the sdk manager and install all of the 4.0 stuff and tools.
Now you need to download and extract the latest cm9 version for the epic 4g. Copy the /system/framework/framework-res.apk from cm9 (or whatever rom you are modding) to the platform-tools folder even if you are modding another apk. Also copy the apk you are modding.
Now open up cmd and run these commands:
cd c:/android-sdk/platform-tools/
apktool if framework-res.apk
apktool d apkyouaredecompiling.apk
Now you can mod the apk's files found in its own folder in platform-tools.
After you finish modding, open cmd and run these commands.
cd c:/android-sdk/platform-tools/
apktool b apkyouaremodding.apk
Now your apk should be in the platform-tools folder.
You can do this with .jar files too...
Great job marcusant YAY for two guides being release today lol

NDK integration? in 1.3 preview

I already have the NDK downloaded but when I go to setup the path to it in android studio's project structure I cannot click on the three dot menu which brings up the file browser to choose the path, instead I just have a download button which starts the NDK download(which I don't want).
Is there any way to show the path to NDK without re-downloading it again?

Gradle sync failed

i was about to learn Android dev, after installing android studio and run it, i get this error message
Gradle sync failed: org.gradle.tooling.BuildActionExecuter.withCancellationToken(Lorg/gradle/tooling/CancellationTokenLorg/gradle/tooling/BuildActionExecuter;
Consult IDE log for more details (Help | Show Log)
what must i do to fix this?
i've just update Android Studio from 1.5 to 2.0 with patched update, not full upadate and i moved my sdk file folder to another drive, couse my drive with default folder of sdk file folder almost full, and i've just configure it in my android studio
Please help me..
Solved
Sorry guys, this is my bad, this error because the sdk instalation didn't instaled completely, so i re-instal android studio and change default sdk folder to another drive with larger space, and now all the trouble is gone
It can eat space, especially on an SSD. Don't forget to check the \users\...\.AndroidStudio* folders, I've had old versions of Studio leaving 500MB-1GB there
