[Q] Deodexed Stock XXJVT - root problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed Deodexed Stock XXJVT stock rom from here, and everything went well. Than I wanted to root it. I did that with this kernel CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip, and it also went well. After that I wanted to "restore to factory settings" - format my user data. When I tried that, phone rebooted, than went to Android system recovery, and ask me to choose one of the options (see picture). I tried "wipe data/factory reset", but I got error messages from picture bellow. Tried again with same result.
Than I flashed phone with stock rom and stock kernel AGAIN. Tried to restore to factory settings, and 1. phone DIDN'T go to system recovery, and 2. erased all data WITHOUT any errors and with complete success.
Than I tried AGAIN (for the second time) to root with same kernel (again it went well). Than AGAIN tried to restore to factory settings (erase private data), and AGAIN problem mentioned above happened.
Now I have stock rom and stock kernel again. I need root for some things, but I don't know how to solve this problem. Could someone please help me with this?
Thanks.

hello
use odin to flash it see here
original rom xxjvt : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/install-235-gingerbread-xxjvt-on.html
how to root it : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/cf-root-for-gingerbread-235-xxjvt.html
-----
you must translate page to english with google chrome

You've already done a hard reset, so just install cf kernel again. Most instructions say wipe before flashing, you have still removed previous files etc
Sent using TCP/IP

Thanks both for quick reply.
@seghier
Thanks for these instructions. I did slightly different process. Maybe this why I got all these errors. I did use ODIN, but I flashed rom with "re-partition" checked (instruction says it shoudn't be checked), and also I used PIT while I am doing this and this instruction says I should do this without it. Check attachemnt picture for hw I did this.
Also, I did root with only PDA, and this tutorial says I should also PIT file included. See attachment for how I did this root.
I am a newbie so I am not sure if this could cause these errors? And did I do something wrong flashing and rooting phone my way?
Should I do this again following this two tutorials or not?
Also I am not sure what is DEODEXED means? Is there any differences between regular stock rom, and this DEODEXED one?
I just want regular stock rom and regular root.

oxeded rom is the original rom from samsung / deodexed is rom can be modified by users and you find in xda forums the difference
the method in photo is right
or you can install deodexed rom from here and the flash very easy :
http://www.multiupload.com/E9AT600ZUC
than use the files like see in image without pit or repartition
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1808/ppppas.png

Thanks, I will try now.

I still checked "re-partition" because I was using before DEODEXED, and now I am flashing ODEXED rom, so I thought maybe it is a different partition type. Is this ok? Flash went okay.

hello
when you find pit file repartition cheked automaticly
tell me if you success with flashing

Yes I did, thank you. But this problem with unable to restore to factory settings, after do root, still exist, even on ODEXED rom. It is deffinatelly some bug.

if you have problems you can format your sd card but first save all your files and data files using cwm : than create backup
you can try other deodexed rom from : s i9000 developement
i used the original deodexed rom and work fine

I don't have external SD card, just internal memory. Backup isn't problem. I wanted to delete all my personal data, but this error happenes. Did you try erase personal data AFTER did a root?

try this
settings ----- sd card and phone storage-------usb storage : format usb storage
and that remove all your files : music photos ...etc
-for hard reset try this : *2767*3855#
-factory data reset : *#*#7780#*#*
save all your photos and music ....

I already bring back some things, and also I managed to erased all that before doing root, so I won't experimenting anymore for now. Thak for your help. I will try this next time I want to clean my phone completly.

i hope that work for you
and deodexed rom more better because you can add new theme or launcher or flash update without limit than oxeded rom
good luck

Thanks.

try a new kernel

working now? please give a feedback ?

Like a wrote before. DEODEXED and ODEXED both work and I CAN restore to factory settings. After do root, it can't ba done anymore. I tried every possible combination, but result is same, so I guess that can't be done (which isn't so importante to me because I already restored to factory settings before apply root).
I didn't try other kernel (don't know either where to find other kernel), because I already installed programs, made personal settings, so I don't want again to wype all that.
If someone of you could try this it would be okay.

try semaphore kernel is very nice :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
use this application to install kernel :
https://market.android.com/details?id=neldar.sgs.kernel.flasher
and this application for save all your application to external card and you can restore it :
http://fr.appbrain.com/app/app-backup-restore/mobi.infolife.appbackup
--------
and don t forget to make backup with cwm

I am not so experienced about all this. What is difference between semaphore kernel and that other kernel I used for root?
Also if someone else could try this, who need to clean phone anyway, because I just make everything to work OK, so I don't want to experiment again.

[Q] Reinstall SGSi9000, necessary?

Hi,
i currently have Froyo 2.2.1 + Root + Vodoo + Lagfix installled.
However, i am unhappy with the battery life with the voodoo kernel and want to get back to my CF Kernel.
I modded some of the stuff on my SGS (Camera App, Bootscreen, uninstalled some system apps).
First Question:
If i dont have any other issues, is there a reason to reformat the whole device (repart) so its back to stock like it was when i got it? I always felt better with a "fresh" installation of my windows, and somehow i feel like... how to say.. like i dumped my OS on the SGS with all the stuff i installed, reinstalled, deinstalled, flashed etc pp ^_^ But if you say, thats not an issue then i will leave it as it is.
Second Question (just to confirm what i am doing):
How do i uninstall vodoo and get back to what it was before installing vodoo? I want a fresh install after that.
1. Disable the Lagfix
2. Factory Reset
3. Flash JPY without Repart
4. Flash CF Kernel
5. Install Rom Manager + CWM
6. Install Deoexed Stock JPY Theme
7. Install Backup Apps/settings (not nandroid)
8. Profit
Correct?
Could i also restore a nandroid Backup from when i had the CF Kernel? (after step 5 ofc).
Thanks in advance
//EDIT:
To concretise my initial question:
When is repartition needed? (except when you crashed the OS on the phone )
Re partition is only needed when you have a firmware with all 3 files.. and something is corrupted preventing the phone from booting...
you dont need to do a full wipe.. you could get away with just removing lagfix and restoring back to JPY firmware... BUT doing a full factory reset would remove any unwanted things giving you that 'fresh out the box' feel... somethings tend to get left behind if a wipe isnt done.
your steps 1-8 are all in the right order you can disable lagfix thru CWM
i always do a full wipe before installing another ROM it makes me feel better

Yes same reason why i did ask
So, I did steps 1 and 2, but instead of flashing the JPY i tried to flash the brand new JS5.
Now i have this issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11372249&postcount=5
(to keep topics separated please answer there)

how to get the cleanest possible base?

Experiencing a few issues.
I want to flash a fresh version of Milkys rom because the current version I have won't let me flash a new theme.
I have the current version backed up and can restore it everytime and it works fine.
Flashing a new copy doesnt work. I get force closures and other issues such as partial themes.
I've flashed back to JPU and JPY and I can then update to JVO through kies without issue.
Even then, I don't get the result I know I should get when flashing Milkys rom. For example, there is no theme.
If I try to factory reset or clearing cache etc, I just get bootloops.
I then restore the original version of the rom that I have backed up and it works fine but I can't flash themes or rather they make no difference and I can't factory reset for the same reasons as above.
Whats going on ?
Do I need to wipe the int sd card at all ? What is safe to delete ? What do I need to get rid of ?
Help !
Please !!
The best thing you can do is a complete format of your sd card in recovery mode.
Btw pay attention, you MUST reflash with odin a deodexed stock JVx (the base rom your theme needs) because just kernel and bootloaders (if i remeber well) should remain on your SD!
Then wipe everything, dalvik cache included.
After that you can put on your SD the theme and then install it by recovery.
PS: this way will erase your backups also, so copy that file to your computer to get back (if you need to).
ok. Fed up now lol
Formatted sd card from recovery and checked it is clean.
Using Odin, flashed JVR.
Using odin flashed Milky v1.2. About phone says I have the rom but zero theming.
Put onto the clean sdcard the milky 1.3 patch and a theme zip.
Flashed the 1.3 patch, rebooted and then flashed the theme but I can't get any theming at all.
Whats up with this damn thing ?
Oh and everytime I'm doing a factory reset in Milky I'm getting bootloops. Is this cos the lagfix is active ?
Ofc, if you have lagfix you must disable them before any kind of installation
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Milky's is ODEXed. Are you sure you have ODEX theme you try to install?
If you try DEODEXed theme, it won't work.
Yeah, it was an odexed theme.

[Q] Can I install the stock rom as a custom rom?

Dear All,
i have SGN 2.3.6 with stock rom, after making the root and installing recovery, I found that music player and gallery do not see any songs or pics stored in USB Storage, and it is not the nomedia file issue since I did not find it on my phone, I have a thread here but with no solution.
Q1: is this normal or something went wrong? and how to solve it?
Q2: If can not solve it unless I flash the stock rom once again, and then I will lose root which I need, So, Can I keep the rooted stock rom as my main rom, and install the stock rom as if it is a custom rom via CWM to try if it will solve my problem
Take a look here for all the info you need. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Using 'mobile odin' you can flash a stock ROM and either tick everroot to keep root or use a rooted kernel (chainfire). Better instructions in the link above

1. Confirm you have data intact in interna storage. if you can see data in yout data storage, then go to setting - application -- manage - All- gallery - clear cache n data
same way do for music player. May it solve your problem.
2. If you have CF CWM, you can flash stock ROM, you can read installation guide from my signature, it has been described there, How to flash stock ROM with CWM with keeping root intact.

Just I want to know if I flash the stock rom your way, would it keep all my stuff (names, settings, apps) or it will be like a format?
if you flash non wipe ROM, it will remain as it is.

If I choose :
Older ROMs (Directly Rootable)
N7000JPKK2 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OJPKK2 -------------------United Arab Emirates ---------------Download
will this be non wipe rom?
it is the same I have now (I mean the same version, it is not upgrade or downgrade)
After I flash, I will hopefully find everything I had before there plus the root and CWM and the gallery fix?
what is the different between putting music and pics in USB Storage and in SD card (I don not have an external sd card)
I m not sure, but if your version was/is available on kies, it is nonwipe
There is a new version of UAE released y'day. that is Non wipe version.
You can put media file any place Int/Ext card
I checked right now for any updates via phone (OTA), and did not find any updates
Iam upgrading now via Kies, I finished downloading the new firmware and now the upgrade is in progress, but it moves 1% each 4 minutes, is this normal, (Iam new with Samsung since I used to use HTC phones before)

[Q] the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly

I'm currently running the latest CM9 on it with moboot... It seems like every time it boots up it pops up with that error message and literally won't go away and you have to reboot the device.. the only way I've found to temporarily fix it is to just wipe cache.... but it always comes back.
Is there any way to prevent this from popping up? It happened when I was on Classicnerd BUTTA too.
Wipe the system and caches, then reflash
I had this problem as well a while back. Wiping caches and reflashing the ROM worked for me.
And you guys didn't have the problem again, after that?
Help manually moving contacts and choosing a JB ROM.
If a pro could help me out I would appreciate it very much. I have been trying to move from a dangerous ICS build to JB and I am having this same problem.
My N7000 previously had this on it:
android 4.03
radio 19220zclp6
kernal version 3.0.15-i9220zclp1-cl131270 (bad ics kernal)
build number midnote 2.0 iml74k.zclp1
So I used ODIN to flash it to a GB rom but I got the com.android.process error and my phone would lock up.
So then I found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 and flashed this ROM "N7000UBLR3 N7000UVOLR1 - Download - Argentina" from the bottom of the page. I wiped only the the cache (not the phone reset) and flashed it again but I still get the process error and phone locking up. I don't even know if this ROM is a safe ROM!!
Am I even on a safe kernal now? kernal n7000ublr3-cl890184 build imm76d.ublr3
What I need help doing is the following.
1. Before doing a full wipe, I need to either manually save my contacts to my PC or back them up. (no apps work but my pc can browse my phone) If I knew where my contacts were located, maybe I can manually copy them to my pc? So any help saving data from a partially unusable phone would help.
2. Flash to a safe GB rom, so I can then do the full wipes safely and then flash to a stable JB rom. (I have no clue which roms to choose here and need help).
Thanks for any help..

[Q] Flash stock ROM by Odin dont erase all user data?

I was surprised that after flashing stock ROM by ODIN, phone was not cleaned from the user data.
I mean: account settings, applications installed by user, etc.
I know that flashing dont erase data from internal/external SD card, but why all data was still exist?
Only Wipe Data / Factory Reset will erase all user data?
Btw, Merry Xmas

Nope, factory reset will not erase all user data. Go into setting/storage and delete from there (not sure cause I didn't have the device now). If you want to erase using odin, tick the repartition box while flashing the firmware. This is the easiest way I think.
Odin flash doesn't wipe user apps and their data, but it may cause bugs if you come from another ROM...
E.g : if u soft bricked on stock JB, just odin flash is necessary.
for other ROMs, it may or may not lag.
I will describe my way.
I tried to install CM 10.2
I did factory reset, next steps follow procedure.
When I did first start, unfortunately keyboard stop working, so my cyjanogen install failed and I decided back to old system using backup.
After restore and start, phone required settings like on first start after factory reset.
Lol, big surprise.
Ok, I entered necessary information but after reset -
again same like after factory reset
I tried from another backup with same result.
Hmm, big mess.
So I flash stock ROM by Odin.
And new surprise - phone with fresh system and all my own settings and applications from last restore.
Two disappointments:
1. Restore from backup does not cause a return to the initial state.
2. Flash ROM by Odin don't make factory state of phone.
I have question, if format partitions: system and data and next restore backup will do real state phone on this backup?

1. Almost every restore from backup for me it returned phone on state when backup was made. Only if my backup was bad (did not have enough place on sd for backup or something corrupted it).
2. Flashing stock ROM by Odin do not touch data partition (or folder whatever it is). So if you want to erase that, you need to make factory reset. It is like that on every Samsung Android device - I am not sure for other, never used.
When you come back from any CM10.2, Omni 4.3 and CM11 based ROM - first flash stock with Odin, do factory reset - and after that restore backup (ofcourse first root, install CoCore kernel for CWM before restore - you can't use restore in stock recovery).
Tnx for answers.
This is weird that format system partition not enough to get rid of the CM
But I checked this again and exactly after refresh ROM by Odin - restore my settings and data works fine.
Hmm imo this is mess in whole Android system

Explanation for that, TeamJanica used preload partition for swap, and it is patitioned in other format than the one stock ROM use. That partition is not used on CM for files, but it has it's use on stock based ROM.

supposedly you have downloaded the stock FW, flash via Odin with re-partition ticked. if it fails, extract the PIT file from CSC_OMC_OXM_XXX save it in a location and load it at the pit session via Odin the re-flash again with re-partition ticked.
