[Q] Can I install the stock rom as a custom rom? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
i have SGN 2.3.6 with stock rom, after making the root and installing recovery, I found that music player and gallery do not see any songs or pics stored in USB Storage, and it is not the nomedia file issue since I did not find it on my phone, I have a thread here but with no solution.
Q1: is this normal or something went wrong? and how to solve it?
Q2: If can not solve it unless I flash the stock rom once again, and then I will lose root which I need, So, Can I keep the rooted stock rom as my main rom, and install the stock rom as if it is a custom rom via CWM to try if it will solve my problem

Take a look here for all the info you need. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Using 'mobile odin' you can flash a stock ROM and either tick everroot to keep root or use a rooted kernel (chainfire). Better instructions in the link above

1. Confirm you have data intact in interna storage. if you can see data in yout data storage, then go to setting - application -- manage - All- gallery - clear cache n data
same way do for music player. May it solve your problem.
2. If you have CF CWM, you can flash stock ROM, you can read installation guide from my signature, it has been described there, How to flash stock ROM with CWM with keeping root intact.

Just I want to know if I flash the stock rom your way, would it keep all my stuff (names, settings, apps) or it will be like a format?

if you flash non wipe ROM, it will remain as it is.

If I choose :
Older ROMs (Directly Rootable)
N7000JPKK2 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OJPKK2 -------------------United Arab Emirates ---------------Download
will this be non wipe rom?
it is the same I have now (I mean the same version, it is not upgrade or downgrade)
After I flash, I will hopefully find everything I had before there plus the root and CWM and the gallery fix?
what is the different between putting music and pics in USB Storage and in SD card (I don not have an external sd card)

I m not sure, but if your version was/is available on kies, it is nonwipe
There is a new version of UAE released y'day. that is Non wipe version.
You can put media file any place Int/Ext card

I checked right now for any updates via phone (OTA), and did not find any updates
Iam upgrading now via Kies, I finished downloading the new firmware and now the upgrade is in progress, but it moves 1% each 4 minutes, is this normal, (Iam new with Samsung since I used to use HTC phones before)

[Q] Deodexed Stock XXJVT - root problem

I installed Deodexed Stock XXJVT stock rom from here, and everything went well. Than I wanted to root it. I did that with this kernel CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVT-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip, and it also went well. After that I wanted to "restore to factory settings" - format my user data. When I tried that, phone rebooted, than went to Android system recovery, and ask me to choose one of the options (see picture). I tried "wipe data/factory reset", but I got error messages from picture bellow. Tried again with same result.
Than I flashed phone with stock rom and stock kernel AGAIN. Tried to restore to factory settings, and 1. phone DIDN'T go to system recovery, and 2. erased all data WITHOUT any errors and with complete success.
Than I tried AGAIN (for the second time) to root with same kernel (again it went well). Than AGAIN tried to restore to factory settings (erase private data), and AGAIN problem mentioned above happened.
Now I have stock rom and stock kernel again. I need root for some things, but I don't know how to solve this problem. Could someone please help me with this?
Thanks.
hello
use odin to flash it see here
original rom xxjvt : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/install-235-gingerbread-xxjvt-on.html
how to root it : http://www.techgom.com/2011/10/cf-root-for-gingerbread-235-xxjvt.html
-----
you must translate page to english with google chrome
You've already done a hard reset, so just install cf kernel again. Most instructions say wipe before flashing, you have still removed previous files etc
Sent using TCP/IP
Thanks both for quick reply.
@seghier
Thanks for these instructions. I did slightly different process. Maybe this why I got all these errors. I did use ODIN, but I flashed rom with "re-partition" checked (instruction says it shoudn't be checked), and also I used PIT while I am doing this and this instruction says I should do this without it. Check attachemnt picture for hw I did this.
Also, I did root with only PDA, and this tutorial says I should also PIT file included. See attachment for how I did this root.
I am a newbie so I am not sure if this could cause these errors? And did I do something wrong flashing and rooting phone my way?
Should I do this again following this two tutorials or not?
Also I am not sure what is DEODEXED means? Is there any differences between regular stock rom, and this DEODEXED one?
I just want regular stock rom and regular root.
oxeded rom is the original rom from samsung / deodexed is rom can be modified by users and you find in xda forums the difference
the method in photo is right
or you can install deodexed rom from here and the flash very easy :
http://www.multiupload.com/E9AT600ZUC
than use the files like see in image without pit or repartition
http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1808/ppppas.png
Thanks, I will try now.
I still checked "re-partition" because I was using before DEODEXED, and now I am flashing ODEXED rom, so I thought maybe it is a different partition type. Is this ok? Flash went okay.
hello
when you find pit file repartition cheked automaticly
tell me if you success with flashing
Yes I did, thank you. But this problem with unable to restore to factory settings, after do root, still exist, even on ODEXED rom. It is deffinatelly some bug.
if you have problems you can format your sd card but first save all your files and data files using cwm : than create backup
you can try other deodexed rom from : s i9000 developement
i used the original deodexed rom and work fine
I don't have external SD card, just internal memory. Backup isn't problem. I wanted to delete all my personal data, but this error happenes. Did you try erase personal data AFTER did a root?
try this
settings ----- sd card and phone storage-------usb storage : format usb storage
and that remove all your files : music photos ...etc
-for hard reset try this : *2767*3855#
-factory data reset : *#*#7780#*#*
save all your photos and music ....
I already bring back some things, and also I managed to erased all that before doing root, so I won't experimenting anymore for now. Thak for your help. I will try this next time I want to clean my phone completly.
i hope that work for you
and deodexed rom more better because you can add new theme or launcher or flash update without limit than oxeded rom
good luck
Thanks.
try a new kernel
working now? please give a feedback ?
Like a wrote before. DEODEXED and ODEXED both work and I CAN restore to factory settings. After do root, it can't ba done anymore. I tried every possible combination, but result is same, so I guess that can't be done (which isn't so importante to me because I already restored to factory settings before apply root).
I didn't try other kernel (don't know either where to find other kernel), because I already installed programs, made personal settings, so I don't want again to wype all that.
If someone of you could try this it would be okay.
try semaphore kernel is very nice :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112908
use this application to install kernel :
https://market.android.com/details?id=neldar.sgs.kernel.flasher
and this application for save all your application to external card and you can restore it :
http://fr.appbrain.com/app/app-backup-restore/mobi.infolife.appbackup
--------
and don t forget to make backup with cwm
I am not so experienced about all this. What is difference between semaphore kernel and that other kernel I used for root?
Also if someone else could try this, who need to clean phone anyway, because I just make everything to work OK, so I don't want to experiment again.

[Q] JB to GB downgrade failure?

So, this is what happened. I first upgraded to the latest official JB 4.1.2 XXLSA firmware. I noticed that it still wasn't as fast as I'd like, and wanted to try a custom ROM instead. I read through the guides in here and get that I have to downgrade to a GB ROM first in order for me not to hardbrick my phone. So, I download "N7000XBKK4 ------ 2.3.6 2011 November------- N7000OXXKK5--------------------- Nordic countries" from that list over stock ROM's in the Q&A root guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 . I follow the flashing guide to the letter, puts my phone in download mode, runs the flash via Odin, the phone restarts, and everything goes south. Basically this happens: When I start my phone it get's to the point in the GB initial startup where I'm to touch the Android to start, but then all it does is throw messages at me about this service and that service having stopped responding, untill the phone reboots. So now I have reflashed back to the JB ROM.
So basically, what am I doing wrong, and what can I do to make a proper downgrade so I can get rooted, install CWM and get down and get it on with some custom ROM's?
Thx in advance!
Same happened with me. I flashed GB and was getting force close messages. But not a big problem. Just flash GB rom again. And after flashing just delete all user data from recovery and reboot. U wont get those messages any more.

You always need to WIPE data / factory reset after downgrading from JB .. GB is safe to go ahead.. if you choose ICS then first flash a safe kernel and then do wipe
It seems to me that KK5 is non wipe, which explains why you got those messages. The rest is detailed in nokiamodeln91's message BTW, JB is still not official for our Notes. What you installed was a leak with a safe kernel (if it was Philz).

Exactly.
I had this issue too when downgrading to GB. Wipe Cache and Dalvik and you should be ok from then on.
Wow. A lot of replies in just a single day. You guys are awesome
Now you say that the KK5 is non-wipe. Are there any GB-roms which are wipe, so to speak? Or do I have to do the flash to GB, enter recovery, wipe cache partition and do wipe/factory reset, then reboot into a now working phone, set up for root with USB and so forth, root and install CWM, copy the custom ROM to my SD-card (gonna go for ParanoidAndroid) as well as Google services if I want those, and then install them via CWM/Mobile Odin?

GB LC1 is wipe. But if you want PA (which is an excellent choice) just flash a CM10 kernel in your recovery (if your recovery is safe, like GB for example). Then follow Utacka's instructions for the installation.
But if I want CWM I should do root and install CWM there? And then flash the custom ROM from CWM?

The CM10 kernel comes with its own recovery where you can flash from. If you have root issues, just flash CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip. In any case don't flash from stock ICS with CMW.zip: if you are on ICS and not rooted flash the relevant Philz kernel (which is safe and will give you root and CWM) then the CM10 kernel.
Edit: what ROM do you have now?
I use the 4.1.2 XXLSA ROM
Btw, anyone knows where I can download the Google Services Framework so I can install it alongside Paranoid Android? I have been led to believe it's not included as per default
Thx for all the replies!!
If you have downloaded the xxlsa rom then it's inside the rom zip file. Path system/app/GoogleServicesFramework

Where to start ?

Spent quite some time searching through the forum but I'd still like a few pointers on where to start particularly (in which order).
Like;
1) Root
2) CWM
3) ROM Manager
4) SuperUser
5) Odin
6) Data wipe
7) Binary count reset
8) Recovery Manager
9) Custom ROMS
(EVEN THOUGH I'VE NUMBERED THEM, IT'S NOT LIKE I KNOW THE ORDER, JUST IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING)
So here are my main questions:
1) In which order do I install them ?
2) Is there any relationship between them? (i.e. I thought ROM Manager let you install CWM and with CWM you can get to Recovery manager or something...)
3) Do I need the Recovery manager for recovery or for installation of custom ROMS?
4) What is the point of getting custom ROMS when I get root ?
Phone: GT-I8190
Android: 4.1.1
Baseband/Build: I8190XXALJL
Thanks in advance, and apologies for asking same question if there is a thread around here about it.
I'd prefer ppl to explain rather than referring to other threads as that got me a little confused before. (you may still refer if that thread is clear enough)
Ok. The order is
1- Root (superuser comes with it)
2- CWM
3-see the right rom for u
4- wipe data, cache, and dalvic in advanced, to flash rom
5-reset counter when u flash anthing in odin u will have a yello triangle to remove u have to reset counter ( does not effect the phone

Could u explain 3 a bit more ?
Also is there any relationship between CWM, ROM manager, custom ROMS and Recovery Manager ?
Go to development forum, pick one of the pre rooted firmwares and flash via odin. Then install rommanager app from tbe play store and flash cwm recovery. Don't worry about binary count coz triangle away app works on our phone. If you want to wipe the phone reboot to recovery and wipe data. To boot into recovery use the quick boot app from play store.

...and most important.. Don't forget to make a full nandroid backup in recovery before you start to apply mods and other things
Might come in handy if the phone fails to boot!
Should note that after custom rom you can't get access software update through kies air. At least I can't :-\

Do I need "busybox" for anything ?
Do I need Kies to connect my phone to PC btw ?
Another question: There are two recovery images on the official site of CWM, do we need to choose the normal one or the touch and what about the ROMS, do I need to install those seperately ?

With cwm or any other custom recovery you will be able to install zip files with mods, tweaks, roms, and so on. Simply put, non-samsung-signed-things + other functions as well.
You wont find many custom roms for s3mini yet wich it to be flashed through cwm. For now i think theres only BenzRom but I guess more will come
Nandroid or Titanium ? BOTH!
Nandroid for restore if something goes really bad, and remember to make sure you have a backup before you apply changes or mods. If you dont like it you can easily go back to previous state without flashing new firmware and have to install all your apps from scratch.
You will be just where you were at the time the nandroid was made.
Titanium backup to backup your apps and appdata. When installing new rom you can simply restore all your apps and appdata without downloading everything again. Do not restore systemdata. It often leads to alot of trouble.
Just make sure you save all your backups on your external sd, so it won't get wiped by mistake.
Busybox is needed if you want more than just root so go ahead and install.

Last couple of questions for now (apologies ) ;
1)Do I need Kies to connect my phone to PC btw, cuz I read something about USB debugging mode to be turned on and ADB...
2)There are two recovery images on the official site of CWM, do we need to choose the normal one or the touch and what about the ROMS, do I need to install those seperately ?
3)So every time we flash another ROM it has a chance to brick or are we safe if we made a backup beforehand ?
4)What format should I format my card to ? - FAT32, NTFS, ext4 or ...?
5)Does data wipe erase all data on phone or phone and sd card ?
6)Given both CWM and Odin flash what would be more recommended ?

No worries. Better be safe than sorry
1. No, you dont need keis unless you want to look for official updates.
For filetransfer I use Airdroid or box/dropdox/4shared. Official updates will be available to download anyway
Adb (Android Debug Bridge) is just a terminal. I won't go in to details here but you will find lots of threads on how to install and use it if you search xda.
2. They both do the same thing, but in touch-version you make your choices on touch screen while the other one is managed with phones physical buttons. I prefer the latest.
Roms for cwm are packed as .zip & are downloaded separately. As I said before there isn't much to chose from for our device yet.
3. Everything done after root is a risk. Even root can be dangerous if it's not done right.
Usually if something goes wrong it will just lead to a softbrick wich can be fixed in download mode or recovery.
Once rooted, make sure you do that cwm-backup to keep on your external sd. It's also a good idea to keep an odin flashable firmware on your computer, just to be sure.
4. Go for fat32. It can be changed later if you want to explore link2sd, sd-swap etc..
5. Factory reset will wipe all internal, but not your external sd.
6. cwm makes it possible to flash custom roms while odin can't. You need odin to flash official samsung firmware, but cwm to flash custom roms, mods, and so on. Can't really compare those two with each other, as they are used for different things.
:good:
Dated, but still very relevant.

What should I do for wired transfers only, I mean.
Do I need to search for the phone specific driver for pc at Official Samsung site or is there no driver ?
Any other things I need to turn on except USB debugging mode when wired ?

[Q] Reverting back to UK Stock and Unroot?

Hey Guys,
I'm due to return my phone to a Samsung service center because of a faulty charging port. I was wondering how to revert to UK Stock Gingerbread (that is what I received it as) from my current ROM? (Rocket Rom Reloaded v1 JB) and unroot?
Thank you very much in advance!
Download the GB Stock from Dr. Ketan's old thread or from sammobile.
Install this Rom with PC Odin - No need to "unroot".
Don't forget to wipe after for removing your data on internal card.
Will this unroot and revert the phone back to stock kernel, recovery etc?
Also which method should I use to wipe, as I remember the stock kernel had the emmc brick bug if I had wiped?
Thanks in advance!
If your phone detecting in PC Odin then do the following step
(No need to format sd card, just remove sd card, dont forget to take all app, data, contacts and messages )
1. Go to cwm recovery
2. Do 3 wipes and do format /system, /data, & /Preload, Format emmc
3. Reboot download mod
4. Flash Stock GB rom from Dr. Ketan's thread using PC ODIN
After flashing you will be having stock rom with stock kernel
Thanks for both of your answers
So I should just go with any of the UK Stock ROMs found here right? (Just making sure I have the right download and thread)

[Q] help me with Ultimate_N7000_LSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 restart problem

Updated 4.25.13
the solution is very simple.just format the sd card and everything should be fine.thanks for everyone who helped me
Hi guys
this is my first post and I hope you guys can help me,I already searched the forum for similar problem but no luck
I installed Ultimate_N7000_LSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 ROM and it was perfect for the 1st day then I realized that my phone keep restarting on its own when the screen is off, sometimes at 30 mins interval or even more.the phone don't show the boot screens.the screen will always be off when this happens.I also noticed that this doesn't happen when my phone is charging
another problem I'm facing is at times when i try to unlock my phone it stays black for a while until it can respond
a third problem is when I unlock my phone it will show in the status bar the message "sd card was removed unexpectedly" and then say "preparing sd card" .then it won't show the contents either in the gallery or the music player but I can still access them from file explorer
sometimes when it restarts i get a code on the status bar instead of the service provider (pic provided)
before I installed this Rom I was on official JB UAE version which I flashed using Odin and then I rooted my phone using PhilZ-cwm6-JPLSB-UAE-4.89.4
I wiped everything before installing it,Full wipe /data/factory reset /cache and dalvik.Format /data /system and /preload
please help me urgently
test with the SD card removed.. also try another battery... the code could be the code of the provider and name not being displayed.. if all ok go back to stock rom after all wipes and formats and test again

not sure. i have used that rom for a while and didnot face that problem.. are yu sure you did not have that restart issue when on stock rom? try flashing another rom will check if the downloaded rom has issues or not..

Yes. After flashing the stock rom, you will need to root it and get CWM. best will be to flash Philz kernel to root it.. then you can get back to custom rom again..
before you flash the stock rom boot into recovery (Philz recovery)
- Choose Wipe Data > Clean before install a new rom. (this will clean the rom. and phone will not boot after this step as there will be no rom)
- Advanced > reboot download > connect to pc and use odin to flash the rom

does it matter what official JB ROM i use?
should I use the same Philz Kernel I used before to root the phone?or there is a better version?
Yes after flashing using odin you will loose root. Flash Philz kernel for JB close to the rom you installed like DDLSC or XXLSZ
The reason for your problems could be a defective sd card. Does the error persist without the card?
Sent from my revived Galaxy Note
Seems like ur sd card is dead. You can also try a clean install of the new rom LT4 since it is a bit better than all the previous crappy jb release =)
thank you guys
I removed my sd card since yesterday, and since then everything is fine.no restarts or battery drainage.the ROM works like a charm
I'll try to format it and see what happens. unless it's corrupt for good
I really appreciate ur help.big thanks :good:
Thanks again for ur great help
