Hi everyone,
I was wondering if I had stumbled across something that everyone already knows about, or whether I found something important. At the http://opensources.samsung.com it seems that sources are available for both P7500 and P7510 models (under "Mobile Phone").
Link:
https://opensource.samsung.com/index.jsp
I downloaded and extracted the file and they look like source files to me.
Could these files be used to create a mod to improve screen polling on our Tabs? If so, please someone with the know-how and the toolchains already in place, increase polling events X2 so I can use my tab for note taking.
Thanks!
These are the kernal source codes.
These are already been used to make custom kernals by devs like pershoot, bonsai, poitee etc.

Ah, okay. Figures that I'd be late to the party.
What about it though, can these files be used to improve screen polling? Right now my tablet is useless for handwriting notes or annotating articles.

Only a dev can answer this question. AFAIK its not fixed till now.
Heard that Super Note app works great for note taking. Please try it from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204931

I am a developer. Good in Java/C and very interested.
I have also never worked on ROMS and ROM port before.
Can anyone give me soem guidance to get started? I basically need 4-5 lines of high level tasks for the port and I can do the work in my free time.
I have already installed Android SDK with Eclipse on my desktop and can download the Nexus S zip and other firmwares if needed.
I am ready to put in effort and am not looking for any donations (notice there is no donate button). Just want to given back to community

It's not impossible, but there are a few different things that must be looked at...
Gyroscope support
MoviNAND chip
NFC Chip
and so on.
I hope it is possible though.

any suggestions for fixes besides replacing are welcome
also i'd like to know somethings people would like to see done on the hero:

If you really wanted to do something useful, you would get into improving our current driver situation. We have an open-source camera driver (which wraps the OEM camera driver) in the CyanogenMod tree, but it needs work, especially on the camcorder side (camcorder doesn't focus at present).
There's also still a lot of work needed on the GL side. We have the libgles_qcom.so file from previous ROM images, but it isn't 100% compatible with Gingerbread (missing textures in Quadrant, etc).
The YouTube player sometimes plays audio-only when viewing "HQ" videos. I suspect this is due to a missing video codec and/or related to the above GL issues. We need work done on various codecs.
There's plenty of work to be done in kernel space. The 2.6.35 kernel posted by s0be is significant progress, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Personally I would like to see more optimizations done on the kernel side because these will benefit all ROM images.
There are also various bugs in CyanogenMod that shouldn't be too difficult to fix, such as notification power widgets disappearing when changing themes. Check their issue tracker on Google Code to find some easy things to fix.
It would be awesome to see a fully-working 2.3.4 ROM image that was 100% AOSP and had completely working drivers. It would certainly make future development much easier and provide a nice base to build other ROM images from.
...oh, wait, that's right. You just want to "port" "tweaks"/themes/nonsense. Try fixing what we have right now before you give us more half-working junk.

Hi,
For a while now I have been interested in the possibility of OCing my i9000, but kept on finding sources that would suggest that it is not possible on the stock kernel and I must flash to one that allows for OC. Yesterday, I have come across a post that suggested Tegrak from the market. I saw that there was a kernel as well a couple of OCing apks (free and paid versions). What I found interesting was that it allowed for overclocking on the stock kernel as long as the phone is rooted. I then tried the app and it seems to have worked and I was able to get it up to 1.2GHz stable...but I found it wasn't worth it as I couldn't notice a difference in ANY app other than benchmarks...
Anyways, my question about this app (Tegrak Overclock, which can be found on the market as well as in the i9100 forum) is why it requires certain access (I have bolded the ones which, imo, are questionable):
"Your location
coarse (network-based) location, fine (gps) location
Network communication
full Internet access
Network communication
view network state
Hardware controls
control vibrator
Your accounts
discover known accounts"
If anyone has any insight as to why the above bolded sections are required, please let me know as I am quite curious and can't seem to find the source or reason for it (seems source isn't available, as per i9100 thread).
Thanks in advance.
edit: original i9100 dev thread-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101355
anyone happen to know?
I wondered about this also but never dared to ask tegrak. As I ran his kernel at the time it seemed quite futile to worry about the rights of a userspace application.
But still it is curious and with the big hoopla over darky's escapades I more and more wish to have access to an independent source that evaluates code and network traffic and gives his or hers stamp of approval.
Since way back when the first hickup in the release train occured and people lost their unique phone ids I am way more careful. I find ramad's posts quite helpful sometimes.
But hey why not ask this question in tegraks kernel thread?

Hi, was curious if any developers here are able to get Photoshop Touch working on the Note?
The Note is also advertised as a tablet as well and this would be so much better than the crappy Express version.
I have a feeling we need to wait for ICS for this to work but I am hoping I am wrong.
Thanks

Some people say it works with ICS on the Galaxy Nexus so it's definitly necessary ICS. Anyone have tried on the Note with CM ICS?

Photoshop Touch is a "Honeycomb" application, and as such requires Android 3+ to work. There's pretty much zero chance of getting it to work on Gingerbread as it simply doesn't have the frameworks to support the Honeycomb APIs.
ICS *should* remedy this.
Regards,
Dave
If and when it works, it would be so amazing on the Note.

I dunno mate, I thought the same, but something wrong here!
Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7H7uk6QvbM
Shows photoshop touch runs on N7000, noticing the notification bar, I believe that guy is using stock ROM (GB 2.3), made me confused.
Tried to find a working apk, but all gave me parse error.
Dunno, video is real but, all other sources says it's not possible
Regards,
Hani
There actually "is" an APK that allows it to be installed and works on Gingerbread and the Note specifically, if you've already bought it for use on a tab, then morally I don't see why you shouldn't use it (as you can buy once, install to many with apps you buy anyway) but legally I'm not so sure.
Swyped from my finger, to your face on my Samsung Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk!
Photoshop touch does indeed run on ICS. I've used it, and it runs well
I have also used the modified version for gingerbread RavenY2K3 is talking about. The creator of that version has modified resolution in the apk so as to make it run on low-res GB phones. Using it amounts to piracy, so I'd advise you to cease discussion about the GB version ;-)
The thing is, Photoshop touch, when it runs on a full-size tablet, is much more natural, fluid and intuitive. Coming to our smaller display, the Note is still a better option than most 'phones', but is still a little restricted. Basically the menus and buttons appear tiny, and they have to be. The good thing is, it's very smooth with the S-Pen.

the video is real, I went to the site and downloaded the modded apk. it works flawlessly.on my.GNote N7000. keep in mind it was made for tablet so everything is smaller....(icons/tools) BUT using the app with Spen is NO problem. works amazing with Spen. =] BTW if u get "parse error" its very normal I had to download apk from their mediafire link 3 times before succeeding. sometimes it doesn't download apk. file properly so just keep trying. I recommend downloading straight from your Note. =] if.you want apk just PM me.and ill.send u my.dropbox link .

This may be an inappropriate place to start this thread but I assumed it to apply to development nonetheless so I understand if it must be relocated.
That being said, about the ONE feature the Nexus 6 lacks that made me envy the latest LG, Samsung, or Apple phone is the ability to record in slow motion at a minimum of 120 FPS at 720p. I've looked into this briefly and it appears that the sensor hardware of the Nexus 6 could easily achieve 120 FPS recording if there were software to allow it. I've also read (but NOT verified) that Android 5.0 includes new camera API's specifically for slow motion recording but it isn't enabled in stock Lollipop on the Nexus 6.
I'm new completely to developing for Android and I'm a novice developer in general at that, however, I really want to enable this awesome feature on our otherwise awesome and superior phones both for myself and for the community that's done so much for me over the years.
Before I venture on understanding and hopefully finding a solution to this, is there any more immediate progress or advice anyone else has made on this particular issue or any explanation of the alleged slow motion camera API's in 5.0?
I'm sure it's coming down the road....
A lot of good things ahead my friend, patience is the key
This alone has me interested in learning how to modify apk's. Lots left to learn, can't seem to do anything with any files i've extracted from the Google Camera APK. They're
all tied up in containers I am unable to make use of without my linux machine.

Hello,
The reason I've moved this thread over to the Q&A section is because as of right now it doesn't contain any real developer-related information. (no offense intended) Please have a look at this thread to see what kind of threads should belong in the developer section.
Good luck developing!

I've been following that recently as well. There seems to be a whole lot already there as a ground work for slow motion recording. It's almost like Motorola intended to originally include it, like with the fingerprint sensor libraries that were removed after they decided not to include biometric hardware... Except, I'm confident now that the sensor in our Nexus 6 can handle 120FPS if instructed to.
